GB and Hurley Classic!

El fin de semana pasado estuve en Londres, donde se celebraba la Hurley Classic. Salí el miércoles tarde, y al llegar nos fuímos a remar un poco en la oscuridad con mi colega Doug.
El jueves por la mañana hicimos otra pequeña sesión, pero por falta de lluvias el spot dejo de funcionar para guardar agua para la competición del fin de semana, así que hicimos planes y el viernes muy temprano por la mañana, como a las 3 o las 4 salímos con Doug y Mark hacia Langollen, en el norte de Gales. Al llegar allí James y Josh estaban esperandonos para remar en el río Dee, completamente crecido!

Last weekend I went to visit some friends in GB and as well paddle in the nighty Hurley Weir! I left home on Wednesday afternoon, after a really busy week with not so much sleeping due to school, to Luton, where I got picked up by my mate DougMeister! And off we were to Hurley at 9pm, where we had a little but cool paddling session on the dark. On Thursady morning we had another little session early morning on two, but by the afternoon the weir was on one, so nothing... Luckily there were some epic rains in Northern Whales, so on the next morning, we woke up at... I don't remember.. 4am?? and with our buddie Mark we drove all the way to Langollen, where James and Hosh were waiting for us to paddle on the flooded Dee!!

El día estuvo muy bien, el río estaba llenio de olas, rulos... fuímos a ver una ola más abajo, pero estaba un poco pasada de agua y costaba sacar trucos.. aún así pasamos un gran día en Gales, y a media tarde empezamos la vuelta a casa, después de unas buenas empanadas y buenas colas en la carretera!

It was a really nice day, with a cool flooded river, with lots of playspots, some of them really good, wave trains, holes... We also went to check out another wave downstream... it was good, however it was quite hard work to pull some tricks. He had another run on the Dee, which was already droping a bit, and by three, after 12 hours non stop, we got some sick pies and started the drive back home, of course we had some great traffic jams!

Al día siguiente, sábado, nos levantamos tarde, bastante cansados del día anterior, y desayunamos mózamente! Iba a ser un día de descanso, pero luego decidimos participar en los selectivos para el equipo de GB en Hurley.

On the next day, Saturday, we woke up late, around 10:30, and had a really nice breakfast! It was going to be an easy day, but then decided to enter GB selections in Hurley, so we rallied all the way to the wave and entered the event. The competition was won by Sam and second was Pickey, I ended up third after not so good rides and some missed moves...

El sábado por la noche comimos un típico plato inglés, Game Pie, y pasamos una buena noche en Marlow!
El domingo se disputó el Hurley Classic, donde después de unas buenas mangas conseguí finalizar en primera posición!

On Saturday evening Doug cooked a great dinner, game pie, and we had a great night in Marlow!
On Sunday morning we woke up slowly and headed to Hurley, where due the good rain that was falling was on three gates, making it super nice!
The event went well, however it was cold and rainy, and after a couple good rides I managed to win! After the competition we all had a cool session where everyone was pulling big moves and just enjoying this great spot.

We had a little session on Monday morning as well, with Doug, George, Matt and Mark, and then I headed to the aiport to fly back home and get ready for my exam just after my plane landed in Spain... crazy!

Thanks a lot to DougMeister and all his house mates, Mark for such nice driving to Whales and Luton, the organizers of the event, Jacko and some more, and everyone else, it's been really good!

FKT'R et 33e Concentration Agôut 2009!

El pasado fin de semana 24 y 25 de octubre se he celebrado la 33ª Concentration de l'Agôut en Brassac, en la región de Midi Pyrenees, Francia.

Barrage de Ponviel!

La concentración ha contado con casi 400 palistas inscritos para realizar el descenso desde la presa de Ponviel a Brassac por el Agôut, un río que sólo funciona una vez al año gracias a la suelta de agua de EDF. Al mismo tiempo se ha disputado un FKT regional en el rulo de Macarel, con preliminares libres el sábado y semis y finales el domingo. El domingo el nivel varió y el rulo cambió mucho. Aunque no hubieron muchos participantes, y algunos no llegaron a timempo para apuntarse, la competición estuvo muy bien, y al final conseguí la primera posición por delante de Seb Devred y Quentin Cailleux.

Por la noche huvo una cena popular y pase de pilladas en el rápido de la Escàliere, con línias muy interesantes...

Last weekend I went to the 33rd Concentration of the Agout, in Brassac, France. The Agout is normally dry, but thanks to EDF they release water from the dam for the event (two days per year). Along with the concentration, which counted with nearly 400 paddlers!! a regional Free Kayak Tour was taking place in the Macarel spot, just at the beginning of the section, below the Ponviel dam. The spot was good, however when the level rised on Suday, the hole got really flushy in the middle so we had to paddle on the sides where it was shallow and sticky!! After all I managed to get first, second was Seb Devred and third Quentin Cailleux. It was a really nice event with lots of paddlers from all around France, dinner for everyone with beatdowns projection from the main rapid, red wine...

Really nice event with lots of cool frenchies, great place with great landscape... Thanks to the organization, Ludo, Guillaume and all the others!! See you there next year!

Cto Catalunya Freestyle!!

El ya pasado 17 y 18 de octubre se celebró en Millau (Francia) el Campeonato de Catalunya de Estilo Libre. La competición contó con bastantes participantes y clubes catalanes, además de algunos vascos (Gorka y Juaniko) y franceses de Millau y alrededores.

Aunque el Tarn estaba bajo, el rulo estaba muy bien, e hizo muy buen tiempo. El francés doble Campeón de Europa Mat Dumoulin quedó primero y yo en segundo puesto.

Last weekend we did our last national freestyle competiton, the Catalan Championships. The event was held in Millau, a pretty nice village with an artificial slalom course in southern France. We had perfect weather for this dates of the year, and however the river was lower than usually the spot was also really good.

However it was a Catalan Champs, there were paddlers from the Basque Country, Andorra and France, what made it way cooler!

Adidas-Sickline paddler Mat Dumoulin was also there, and with nice solid rides managed to get the first and I end up in second.

Adidas SickLine Worlds

Del 1 al 4 de octubre se celebraró el Adidas SickLine Extreme Kayak World Champs en Oetz, Austria, un sitio muy bonito en medio de los Aples, con un buen río y una organización perfecta, lo que hacen de éste un gran evento. En mi caso la competición fué bastante mal, acabando en una 20ª posición.... aun así el evento y los días allí estuvieron muy bien. Hasta el año que viene!

The Adidas SickLine Extreme Kayak World Champs were held from 1st to 4th of october in Oëtz, Austria. The palce and the river is really nice, and the event has great organization. It's a really good event. Unfortunately for me teh competition turn out quite bad, finishing in 20th place... nevertheless, I really enjoyed the whole event and my days there. See you next year!

Worlds Thun...

Desde hace ya unos días estamos en Suiza, en el Cto. del Mundo de Freestyle, que se celebra en Thun, una pequeña ciudad en medio de los Alpes... increíble.
Hemos estado entrenando durante toda la semana pasada, y hace unos días empezó la competición. El martes empezaron los K1 senior durante todo el día, con más de 100 participantes de más de 30 países creo, con un nivel increíble, 2500 puntos en dos mangas para Nick Troutman... killing it! Cristian y Gorka tuvieron mala suerte en sus mangas y no pudieron pasar el corte, y es que la ola no es muy constante y es difícil hacer y quedarse en los trucos.
Con unas mangas así así conseguí la 15a posición, que me permite el pase a cuartos para mañana, donde van a cortar a 10. A ver si hay un poco de suerte.
Los canoas hicieron bien pasando Odei y Juaniko a semis en C1 y OC1, y Carla en K1J.
Las chicas han remado hoy, ha faltado un poco de suerte y no han conseguido pasar, pero creo que la experiencia es muy buena.

Canada... part 2

Después de pasar buenos días en High Tension, el nivel del río empezó a bajar y decidimos ir a La Rouge, un río que hay cerca de Montreal, dónde trabaja el colega Alex Jette, que estuvo trabajando en RocRoi el verano pasado.

After lots of good days on High Tension wave in the Gatineau, we headed to La Rouge, a nice river near Montreal. The level was high, so Family wave was working perfectly almost all the days we spent there with Casper and Tim and all the Frencchies; Leo, Gael, Alex, Seb's...
Thanks to Alex Jette, a buddy who worked with me in RocRoi last summer, for leating us crash at his place!

El nivel de río era muy bueno, por lo que la ola "Familial" funcionaba muy bien. Es una pequeña ola, más o menos constante, con buena espuma y bajada. Allí estuvimos durante casi una semana, con Casper y Tim y todos los franceses: Leo, Gael, Alex, Seb's...

Después de la Rouge volvimos a Montreal, para remar hasta el final de los días en Lachine y Habitat 67, que aunque aun haydemasiada agua en el St. Lawrence para su punto óptimo, las olas estan muy bien.

After the Rouge we drove to Montreal, where we spent the last days surfing on the Lachine rapids and Habitat 67, great spots however the St. Lawrence river is still too high so they are not on it's perfect level yet.

Canada...

Hace dos semanas que estoy en Canada, remando en algunas de las mejores olas que este gran pais nos ofrece. Ha llovido mucho durante esta temporada, por ,o que los rios aun estan en niveles altos de casi primavera. Esto hace que las pequenas olas de verano no esten funcionando.

Aun asi hemos remado bastante, Lachine rapids en Montreal, High Tension wave en Gatineau river y Ottawa, con una pequena sesion en Mini Bus!

It's been a while since last post, now I'm in Canada, having lots of fun and paddling some of the best waves and rivers this big country has to offer. This season has been really rainy here, so the rivers has been on high levels for a while, and still high. I've been here for already two weeks, and we've paddled the Lachine rapids in Montreal, the amazing High Tension and waves at Lucifer's rapid on the Gatineau, and a short session on Mini Bus on the Ottawa.

There are lots of paddlers from lots of different countries paddling and training for the worlds in Thun, however the levels have been too high to paddle on the smaller waves in the Ottawa.

El fin de semana pasado se disputó en Campo la tercera y última competición de la Copa de España de Estilo Libre, que decidía el Equipo para ir al Cto del mundo en Thun.

Freestyle Murillo

El fin de semana pasado se disputó la segunda Copa de España de Rodeo en Murillo de Gállego (Zaragoza). Como siempre esta competición fue un gran éxito, gracias a la organización, el super spot, el entorno, la peññaa, el embudo, el sol....

El río estuvo alto durante gran part de la semana, lo que permitía muchas más maniobras. Aunque el caudal bajó a lo largo del finde, el rulo simpre estuvo muy bien.

Finalmente conseguí una primera posición en K1 que espero me sirva para ayudarme a clasificarme por Thun.

Las weekend we had our second Spanish Freestyle Cup in Murillo de Gállego (Spain). Murillo is an incredible place located at the base of the Pyrennes, with some great rocky mountains for climbing and a great river for rafting… The place is a little bit dry but it’s really good, cause you are near from nearly everywhere.

The river was on a good water level all week, what means the spot turns into a great wave, with eddy service, green and foam. Unfortunately the levels started to drop and by the weekend they were as the previous years. Anyway it’s a great hole, not so easy, cause you have to be careful with the bottom and not to flush, but it was really good fun!

Prelims took place on Saturday morning, when I wasn’t really inspired… On the afternoon we had the semifinals, and I paddled better than in the morning and managed to get first.

We did another training session on late afternoon, and then head to the dinner, where we met all the kayakers. The night was long, but in the morning we were really motivated to go kayaking. Finals took place on Sunday morning with a really shining sun! Finals went good and I ended first (my brother also won the junior class), so we were really happy!

After all, awesome weekend, really nice competition with great organization, prize giving, nice spot, sunshine all day long, good friends… can’t ask fro more!

This was the second competition that counts as team trials to make the team to go to Thun, so after two wins I just need the third competition in two weeks and see what happens!

FKT Flip Flap Party

El fin de semana pasado fuímos al FKT de Flip Flap, cerac de Lourdes, Francia. Devido a las lluvias de los últimos días la ola estaba muy bien de agua, y aguantó durante todo el fin de semana.

Las preliminares se disputaron el viernes, y el sábado las semis y las finales. La competición estuvo muy bien, buena organización, un sitio increíble, cena, fiesta... El domingo se disputó una competición N2 de slalom en el campo de St Pé (200 m río abajo).

Aunque mis mangas fueron bastante malas, ya que perdía mucho tiempo en colocarme, etc fuí pasando de ronda, hasta que finalmente acabé 6º. Destacar el buen nivel de los palistas franceses en ola, Jules, Leo, Mat's, Quentin, Yoann, Max... con muy buenas mangas y buenos aéreos!!
Después de remar bastantes horas durante el finde y estar rebentados, el domingo al mediodía volvímos para Girona.

Last weekend we went to the 3r FKT of the season in Flip Flap, Lourdes, France. The Flip Flap is a great wave near St Pé de Bigorre. The waterlevel was really high cause of the rain from the week, so the wave was at it's perfect level! Prelims took place on Friday and semis and finals on Saturday. There was also an slalom competition on Sunday, just 200 m downstream on St Pe slalom course. It looked great with so much water!!

The competition was great fun, nice organization, awesome place, good friends, good food, party... After a few not so good rides, losing klots of time to set up, I end up 6th. Really good level from French paddlers surfing waves; Jules, Leo, Mat's, Quentin, Yoann, Max...they were all having really nice rides and throwing big moves!! Gotta train a lot!!
After paddling a lot during all the weekend, we were pretty exhausted so decided to start our way back home.

Muy buen finde, gracias a los organizadores (Fred, Marco, Fafa...), a Quim y al Salt-ter por llevarnos a la competi y a todos los gavachos wena tela!!

It was a really nice event, thanks a lot to the organizers (Fred, Marco, Fafa...), Quim and the Salt-ter to let us go there, and all the Frenchies that are so cool and make you feel like home! See you on the next one!!

Copa Esp Rodeo/1st Spanien Freestyle Cup

El fin de semana pasado se celebró la primera competición de la Copa de España de Estilo Libre en LLavorsí, Lleida. Lo bueno de esta prueba era que además es selectivo para participar al Cto. del Mundo de Rodeo en Thun.

La competición se disputó en la pequeña ola delante de RocRoi el sábado a causa del nivel del Noguera, pero el domingo pudimos remar en la ola de la Rentadora gracias a la lluvia que cayó durante la noche.

Aunque no había mucha gente la competición fué entretenida, y muy bien organizada comparado con el margen de tiempo... gracias a los organizadores por querer organizar esta prueba para que no tuviera que ser cancelada. Al final acabé 1º en K1 y 5º en C1...

Last weekend we went to the first Spanish Freestyle Cup competition that was held in Sort. The good thing about this competition was that along with two other events will decide the Spanish Team that will go to the Worlds in Thun!

The competition took place on a little wave just in front of RocRoi on Saturday and on the Washing Machine wave on Sunday due to the rain during all night long, yeaah! Thanks a lot to the organizers that did such a good job with so little time to do it, and for organizing the event after no one wanted to do it, so it wouldn't be cancelled.

However there wasn't so many people it was a good event and had lots of fun. At the end I placed 1st in K1 and 5th in C1... Looks like rivers are getting higher and higher!! snowmelt is just starting!

Semana Santa 2009/ Easter 2009

La semana pasada nos fuímos con Parra a remar un poco a Francia, la idea era estar en el canal de St Pierre de Boeuf toda la semana, que justo lo inauguron el finde pasado después de varios meses en obras, y hacer alguna sesión en Lyon si estaba bien de agua. De momento la ola que han querido hacer en el canal de St Pierre no funciona, y el antiguo rulo tampoco del todo, ya que al sacar las dos piedras de detrás la espuma que éste forma con el caudal de agua que había era muy pequeña, además que se tocaba e todos lados, rulo, suelo... preguntarle al codo de Parra!! jaja

Last week we went kayaking in France, we were really looking forward to paddle in St Pierre de Boeuf, cause there's a great spot and we wnated to see how the channel looked like after they've worked on it for the last few months. Unfortunately teh wave they've tried to setup is not working, and the waterlevel was really really low, so it was really shallow everywhere, and rocks in St Pierre are pretty sharp!! (ask Parra's elbow! jaja!).

As they removed the two rocks behind the hole, it doesn't have much foam now, and you have to be really careful with the bottom!

Después de remar en St Pierre nos fuímos para Lyon. No encontramos la ola de noche, así que dormimos dónde pudímos y a la mañana siguiente la encontramos! Allí estaban Seppi y Simon Strohmeier y Martin Koll, de Alemania. Según parece, el agua de este invierno ha echo que la contra de abajo se llene más de sedimentos, con lo que la ola no funciona con caudales medios, ya que está bien verde. Así estuvimos esperando a que bajara el agua hasta la noche, para poder hacer una mini sesión, ya que no se veía mucho... aún asi, la ola lo merecía!

After this session we drove to Lyon, but couldn't find the wave in the night!! so we slept somewhere I don't know and found the wave next morning!! There we met Simon and Seppi Strohmeier and Martin Koll from Germany. As long as I know, the wave changed this winter, so it's not running on medium levels, so we had to wait all day long!! Luckily we had really nice weather and ate good food!! We had a little session in the evening, when the water dropped and the wave had foam on top. It was really cool however it was really hard to see anything in the dark!!

A la mañana siguinete hicimos otra mini sesión, y decidimos irnos a Millau. Millau no resultó ser lo que esperábamos, el rulo no estaba nada bien, pero sobretodo hacía una gran tormenta de lluvia y viento, así que decidimos volver para casa. Lo mejor fué que cuando llegamos a casa el sábado por la tarde, el río de Girona, el Ter estaba de crecida, y podímos hacer uan buena sesión en el mejor rulo de Girona, que aunque le faltaba agua estaba bien! y es que hacía unos 4 años que remabamos allí! El domingo el río ya estaba bajo otra vez...

We had another little session next morning and then we decided to move to Millau. Millau wasn't as good as we expected, it was really cold windy and raining a lot!! After a morning session in Millau we were tired and bored of not finding a good place to kayak, so we decided to go back home... The best thing of the trip was that when we arrived home on saturday afternoon the river was on flood and we had a wicked session in the best Girona's spot!! (last session we had there was 5 years ago or so, so we were really lucky!!! (It was already low on sunday...).

FKT 1 Tournon St Martin

Este pasado fin de semana fuímos a la primera competición de la Copa de Francia de Freestyle (Free Kayak Tour) que se celebraba en Tournon St Martin.

Last weekend we went to the first Free Kayak Tour of the season, which was held in Tournon St Martin.

Salimos el viernes por la tarde, y al cabo de varias horas llegamos a Tournon. Remamos un poco en el rulo de la competi, de 12 a 1 h y a dormir!!

We left Girona on fruday afternoon, and after a few hours driving through France we arrived to Tournon. We paddled a little on the competiton spot, from 12 to 1 am, and then went to sleep!

La competición estuvo muy bien, buen rulo, buen tiempo, muy buen ambiente, buena organización, tartas a medio euro.... paradise!!

The competition was really good, nice spot, awesome weather, really good atmosphere, nice organization, awesome cakes for 50 cents... paradise!!

El domingo fueron las finales, donde terminé 2º, después de tres mangas a las que les faltaba un poco de todo...

Finals took place on sunday afteroon, and after a so so rides I end up in second place. After the competiton we drove straight to Girona!!

Más que nada, una buena ocasión para probar el kayak Jackson y la ropa Adidas, y decir que estoy muy contento con todo!!

It was a good time to try out all the new gear from Adidas, the Jackson Kayak boat... and paddle with some good friends in France!!

Uganda 2009

Este pasado mes de febrero estuve unos dias en el White Nile, en Uganda. La verdada es que Uganda es un país impresionante, todo verde, tierra roja, agua, sol, fruta... y la gente es super amigable. Además había muchos otros amigos kayakistas de rusia, inglaterra, suiza, slovakia, canada...

Llegamos a Uganda el 8 de febreo, y nos fuimos a Bujagali, cerca de Jinja, que es donde empieza la sección de ráfting. Estuvimos unos días corriendo hasta Silverback y Day 1, y después nos fuímos al Hairy Lemon. El nivel del río era bastante bajo devido a la presa que estan construyendo al lado de Silverback, y que inundará algunos de los rápidos anteriores: 50/50, quizá Bujagali Falls...

Por las mañanas no había agua abajo, con lo que remabamos en la Club wave, que es la tercera ola detrás de la Nile Especial. La Club es una ola muy divertida, sin embargo en función del nivel es difícil hacer maniobras. Por la tarde el nivel subia y podiamos remar en la Nile Especial, aunque había que entrar con la cuerda y era difícil quedarse en los trucos, ya que a ratos estaba completamente verde!!

Invierno...

Ahora que llega el frío es importante el equipo que llevamos. Una de las partes de ropa más importantes son las lycras o ropa térmica, que nos manteiene calientes y secos. Hace unos días me llegó la nueva ropa térmica de REED, que una vez en el agua es increíblememente caliente.

En la página web de REED podreis encontrar toda la información referente a ropa térmica, cubreanoraks, trajes secos... y otros complementos comom gorros, guantes, etc.
De entre toda la ropa, el traje térmico completo es increíble, en una sola pieza de roba lo tienes todo sin todas esas capas en la cintura...

Hay ropa de todo tipo, tan solo tienes que echar un ojo aquí y decidir!!

El gorro y los guantes son elementos bastante indispensables para practicar rodeo o aguas bravas en invierno, aunque incluso en primavera tambien se agradece, de esta manera podremos pasar largas horas en el agua sin padecer dolores de cabeza...

Haceos con vuestra roba, olbidate del frío y a disfrutar!!!

Aunque el año ya se acaba, el pasado domigo 23 de noviembre se disputó el Campeonato de Catalunya de Rodeo en Millau, Francia, ya que es el único sitio posible en el que se puede realizar una competición en estas fechas del año.

El sábado remamos un poco, pero hacía frío y viento. El domingo por la mañana se celebró la competición. Aunque no había mucha gente de Catalunya, algunos amigos franceses se apuntaron y pasamos un buen rato.

Gracias a la gente del Salt-ter por organizar la prueba y a la gente que vino a la competición.

Para los que no pudísteis ver el programa o soys de fuera y os apetece, aquí esta el link para verlo en internet.
Es el vídeo que aparece en pantalla, primero hay una pequeña introducción del programa y luego empiezan las diferentes secciones. La primera, Racons, és la de kayak en Arreu, grabado esta pasada primavera 2008. Es muy corto, pero no esta mal para la poca agua que había.

Extreme Kayak on TV!

Este jueves 23 de octubre se emitirá un pequeño reporatge de "Kayak Extremo" en el programa Temps d'Aventura, a las 22:30 h en el Canal 33 (sólo Catalunya...).

Este reportage lo grabamos un día de primavera en el río/barranco de Àrreu, un afluente del Alto Noguera. El río es muy corto, pero tiene algunos pasos divertidos. En el vídeo salimos Jordi Batlle, también conocido como Batlle pro, y Gerd Serrasolses (yo).

Además el jueves 6 de noviembre, a las 22:15 h aprox. se emitirá un reportage de ráfting con la empresa ROC ROI, también en el Canal 33.
