So, I've been wanting a Lucky Cat statue for a really long time, but I've been very picky about them. I didn't want one that was too cartoon-y, or one that was made of plastic, or one with a sloppy paint job. And it ended up taking me like three years to finally find one I liked. But here he is--I love him!!!

It was my first time at American Airlines Center. Our seats were fantastic (other than me having to sit next to a very large pooty lady). And I realized that the last time I saw a band play in an indoor stadium like that was the Bon Jovi/Skid Row show at the Summit in Houston in 1989--ha!
Here is the set list (because I am a dork who likesyotababynoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-23541458.post-88460610035338611382008-07-10T13:15:00.003-05:002008-07-10T13:32:58.838-05:00More Things I Like:1) The word verboten (thanks, Jess!)
2) The feel of my hair brushing against my bare back
3) Sweden (ok, that one was obvious)
4) Skirts with hidden pockets
5) Being the first one into the office in the morning
6) Crappy teen novels and comics
7) The idea of secret passageways (but not so much the actuality)

It's the next video game I've been wanting to play. So far, I like it--it's made me laugh in several parts, which not many games can do. I love that the main character is a cocky, pouty, snotty teenage brat. And the graphics are really nice. I think I'll enjoy it quite a bit, once I get to the game itselfyotababynoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-23541458.post-3319903349294025322008-07-08T09:14:00.003-05:002008-07-08T10:13:58.222-05:00South PatheticLast night I started watching the remake of South Pacific, with Glenn Close and Harry Connick, Jr. I wasn't optimistic, but I figured I'd at least give it a try, since South Pacific is like my second or third favorite musical of all time. And well, it wasn't TERRIBLE. But it was disappointing.
So, I have a big pet peeve about cover songs (this is related, I swear!). Lots of time spent with Shannon, Laura, Jonathan, Cassie, Tim, Erin, Nathan and Scott, fireworks, swimming in the lake, drinking, Rock Band, board games, good food...the kind of weekend that almost makes you wish you could spend EVERY weekend like that.

I took off the part about LJ though, because I didn't want to post it on my LJ. So there.
The Big Read reckons that the average adult has only read 6 of the top 100 books they've printed. Well let's see.

In case you didn't know it, salad is pretty much my favorite food. Anyway, here are a couple that I've thrown together recently:
This was an Asian salad. It had oranges and peanut sauce and and walnuts and was really, really good.
I just now finished eating this one. We have a fig tree in our yard and I've been trying to figure out what on earth yotababynoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-23541458.post-30384006327156130102008-06-23T08:48:00.004-05:002008-06-23T10:05:27.468-05:00Whew!This weekend was FULL.
Friday night we drove up to Ardmore, Oklahoma right after work to celebrate Shannon's dad's birthday. We were supposed to stop and get two bottles of wine on the way up, for a wine tasting game we would be playing later in the evening, so we stopped in at a little liquor store somewhere in the Denton-ish area. Shannon was in charge of finding a white, and I was in yotababynoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-23541458.post-66738812891714601992008-06-20T16:47:00.003-05:002008-06-20T17:21:05.331-05:00Diet Coke-Free Since June SixteenI stopped drinking sodas at work. I've thought about doing this many times before, but that thought was always immediately followed by, "but I want one!" and then by, "oh, who cares?" And then I'd get one. And then another one an hour later. And then another one a couple of hours after that. On Tuesday morning, I thought, "I should stop drinking sodas at work" and, "but I want one!" and "oh,yotababynoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-23541458.post-77138336813505785352008-06-12T09:08:00.005-05:002008-06-20T17:26:39.531-05:00A Sense of Impending Doom...Just one of those days.
I've been having bad dreams lately, basically involving my fear of abandonment. I had another one this morning and I can still feel it just hanging over me. Also, I'm really, really ready to be out of this job and into another one, but the logistics of that are stressful. Everyone knows you should never quit the job you have without having a new one to go to. But I yotababynoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-23541458.post-87132873973234332572008-06-09T11:17:00.009-05:002008-06-19T14:14:21.144-05:002. Weekend Updatea) Friday night--we hung out with the Clarks. We felt like we hadn't seen them in FOREVER, so we were really happy. We played a game of Justinian (a Byzantine themed board game I got for Christmas) and drank wine and then played a little Dr. Mario on their Wii. And also some Boom Blox.
b) Saturday afternoon--we met Jeff and Brent at Dream cafe for brunch, then headed to Jeff and Magda's yotababynoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-23541458.post-87432802339821744842008-06-09T10:56:00.006-05:002008-06-09T11:58:28.850-05:001. Music UpdateWhen I got home from work on Friday night, I made a playlist of all Swedish artists, because, you know. I like the Swedes. A LOT. In case you are wondering, all of the following are Swedes:
Kent
Jens Lekman
Shout Out Louds
The Perishers
Loney, Dear
José González
El Perro Del Mar
Tiger Lou
Peter Bjorn and John
Frida Hyvönen
After I made my playlist, I told my iPod to sync it. Shannon and I met Nathan and Erin for dinner at the Meridian Room beforehand, where I had a turkey, brie and green apple sandwich with sweet potato fries--quite delicious (actually, it took me a ridiculous amount of time to decide what I wanted because everything there sounded so good--I must go back and try all that other yotababynoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-23541458.post-59358503717717394652008-04-28T09:07:00.004-05:002008-04-28T11:46:25.623-05:00More DreamsThis is kind of turning into some sort of weird dream blog lately, but so what? My dreams are very entertaining to me, and I think it's really, really interesting to try to figure out where various bits and pieces of them came from. So--
Saturday night:
I dreamed that Shannon and I were getting ready to leave the house. He went out the back door first and was going to pull the car around to yotababynoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-23541458.post-54845099666795553402008-04-21T15:01:00.003-05:002008-04-21T15:32:37.538-05:00The Moral of the Most Recent Shojo Manga Series I Read:A nice, dumb girl sometimes end up, voluntarily and quite happily, I might add, with a total asshole who hits her and calls her names and repeatedly tries to rape her and is way, totally overboard possessive and just generally treats her like shit, and then her very nice, respectful, HOT adopted brother who has been in love with her since she was like three (um, ew!) has to go off and become a yotababynoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-23541458.post-9537894104388373722008-04-11T11:05:00.005-05:002008-04-11T13:38:35.016-05:00Last Night's DreamMe and Shannon and Shane and Dean (from work) were in class. Like elementary school, only we were all old. And by old, I mean our actual ages that we are now, not like we were all eighty. Just old by elementary school standards. Anyway, it was nap time and instead of cots, there was like one huge mattress that took up almost the whole floor, and we each just had a little space of our own to yotababynoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-23541458.post-7746447902096396542008-04-11T08:53:00.005-05:002008-04-11T11:04:08.421-05:00My Very Eventful Sick DaySo, this is the kind of month I've had:
Yesterday, I stayed home from work because I felt like total crap. And as I was sitting on the couch in my pajamas eating Ramen noodles and watching the NANA anime on my computer, someone tried to break into my house! He started by banging on the door and trying the knob, so I went back to my bedroom and got some clothes on and grabbed my phone, and yotababynoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-23541458.post-38759528833375724402008-03-31T15:17:00.004-05:002008-03-31T15:37:43.006-05:00Two Things:Last night, we hung out with our friends Doug and Jodi, who just moved back to Dallas from Connecticut. Over dinner, Shannon and I told them about our experiences with church in the years since they moved away. Doug's response: "Have you been living our lives?!?" While it's certainly nice to know that I'm by no means alone in my dissatisfaction, it doesn't help me one bit in figuring out whereyotababynoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-23541458.post-74012182166788256092008-03-26T13:25:00.004-05:002008-03-26T13:39:29.726-05:00Faith is for the BirdsSomething I just found that I wrote last October in response to a convesation Jonathan told me about having with an old friend of his:
My faith, at times, feels like a trail of breadcrumbs through a forest, which I follow, sometimes wandering too far to one side or the other, sometimes missing the clues and hints entirely, too busy looking at what's going on around me.
