and so do i!!! last night steel pulse played for free in battery city. it was a park on the river with views of the statue of liberty and the empire state building. chris and i got there a little after the show started and the park was packed! there were families with children running around and joggers and people in business suits and rastas and and and... talk about one love!

chris and i were dancing at the back of the park when i looked around and really took in the views and the people and one of my favorite kinds of music all in my favorite city-it was hard to not cry because it was so freakin' cool! sometimes nyc is almost too good to be true!

sometimes reggae isn't as good live as you would want, but steel pulse sounded GREAT!!! they were set up under a little pagoda just off the sidewalk. the sounds was great everywhere in the park! we walked around to the back of the stage because we were trying to leave (getting up at 5 makes for early nights) but the sound was so good behind the stage we danced there for a while too. it was an amazing time and god, do i LOOOOVE reggae!! kind of makes me miss the dreads...

murakami

i went to the murakami exhibit at the brooklyn museum last weekend. it was amazing! matt hated it. he said it looks like murakami simply took lsd and doodled. but the size of everything was so impressive... and murakami is a marketing genius to say the least!

my mom told me a couple weeks ago that she wanted to see it, but it closes on the 15th! normally i would tell her not to spend the money to come. but the show was so amazing, that i told her to get her butt up here! so, she's coming next week! WHOO HOO for mom!!!!

it's official, i am now totally certified with Bella Pictures! whoo hoo! my schedule is now filling up quite fast and i couldn't be more happy! i really like the company and i sometimes can't believe that they're real. this is how it works: they send their new york photogs a date for a wedding. you can reply, saying that you're free for that date, or you can ignore it. then, if you're free and your personal shooting style matched with the bride and groom's desired style, you're picked to be their photog. then, you shoot the wedding, send the picts to nevada and wait for the paycheck. it's so easy! i keep all the rights to the picts and can do anything but sell them. it's almost too good to believe! oh yah, and you can shoot one wedding or 100, it's all the same to them! and they have health, equipment, and liability insurance! whoo hoo.

who doesn't love a great liability insurance plan?????

the stitch for this belt is linen stitch. i LOVE the two textures! it's so lumpy on one side and flat on the other.

i have posted the pattern, but there's a disclaimer that goes along with it. i haven't looked at a crochet pattern in so long and i can't remember how to word things. i crochet the yarn onto the d-rings and then the knit stitches that are formed are picked up with a knitting needle and so begins the linen stitch.

if anyone out there has any input about the pattern, contact me here.

so, i just wanted to mention my café press store again. (have i mentioned it?) i just made these fun "secret knitting society" pins-love 'em!

and i am about to run to the truck and put on this sticker from knitty.com. it's replacing a phish sticker that actually lasted for 10 years! but i just had a dent fixed and they took it off. oh well. i guess i have to move on....

blanket finished!

i have finally finished the blanket! well, ok, i need to block it and weave in the yarn ends.... i am very pleased. my weird color decisions at the center don't look as bad as i thought. and adding a ribbed border was also easy, even with the increases.

p.s. this is the "knit from the center square blanket" in my patterns section. try it, you'll like it! you could knit forever and ever with this pattern, which is a little unnerving, but that's how i roll. ;-)

oh boy! i got a new pattern from hansigurumi... a garden snail! this time i have had much more success than the octopus! i'm already in love with him, just from looking at the shell. i am amazed at what i can do with knitting. i can't believe hansi can write these amazing patterns so well!!!!! she's the coolest!

the first picture is the underside of the shell before i grafted it together and stuffed it. i also used the recommended pipe cleaner to help with the curl.

oh boy, i have written another pattern! it's my new double brimmed reversible hat. LOVE it! and it's made with alpaca-my favorite 'cause it's 60 times warmer than wool!

lunar eclipse

seeing our shadow on the moon, and seeing saturn just beyond (the blue one at the top of the frame) made the sky seem 3 dimensional for the first time. i've always looked at the sky and just seen pinpoints on a flat black surface. well, maybe now that will change.

a knitter in peru

i was recently thinking about my trip to peru and how, i think out of all of the places that i've been, peru was my favorite. now i wish that i had been a knitter when i went 'cause i would have brought back bags and bags of alpaca wool! i think alpaca is my new favorite fiber. i mean, you can't go wrong with something that's 60x warmer than sheep's wool!!!!

as i mentioned in the single cable scarf post, i was working on a scarf and cap sleeve shrug for my friend toshi-dj rio-and her new husband mitsuru. here is her blog translated into english. the translation is a little silly, but you can see where she wrote a little story about getting the package with her gifts. because if the silly translation, i am not going to call the scarf the "uzumaki maki maki's muffler"

you can see the scarf in the sin gle cable scarf post and here are a couple pictures of the shrug. (i know, i look totally ridiculous in the shrug, but toshi will look hot!)

well, that was a good convention! but i was wildly disappointed with the closing party. we had the run of the tampa aquarium at night...god, it was so cool! but, besides some women shooting picts of themselves and guys with their cameras hung around their necks and their unnecessarily long lenses (the male photographers' way of making up for his inadequacies in the business end of things) no one was really taking pictures!!! so many people didn't even have their cameras with them. my husband even noticed that it was a surprisingly camera free evening! i guess that it's just a job to them.... and i feel bad for them! did they start out that way? did they not go to art school? are they just "too old" in their minds to have passion for photography ALL the time? i should have asked. maybe i'll never know.

in the first picture below is from a lecture by julieanne kost TOTALLY great photographer and speaker and all around nerd. her speaking style was a lot like mine-slightly a.d.d. and fast and she talked to herself a lot. LOVED it!!! check her out here!

i'm off to the imagingusa photography convention in tampa on saturday! i am taking my most recent project with me, a square blanket that's knit in the round from the center out. totally cool! (see picture below)

i've put the pattern into my "patterns" section.

so, i'm quite excited to geek out photo style and then knit on the beach. whoo hoo!
