Grocery Store Price Comparison

WKYC's Chris Tye and Carole Sullivan set out to find how much prices differ from one grocery store chain to another.

The found quite a price range depending on the item. So if you're willing to spend the extra gas money to shop around, you could save on your grocery bill.

But do you have your secrets for cutting your food bill costs? Are there certain places that always sell food items at cheaper prices than others?

$4 Gas and Tough Choices

It looks like gas is more than flirting with the $4 mark.

Cleveland prices appear to be at $3.95 and rising, because we all know they're not about to drop anytime soon. We found at least one station in Akron with regular unleaded gas at $4.19!

So here's the question: With gas prices so high and going higher, what choices are you having to make? Are there certain luxuries you are giving up to pay for gas? Are there certain items you just can't do without no matter what the price of gas?

Papa John's launched its 23 cent pizza promotion/apology on Thursday and the demand exceeded even what corporate expected.

There are reports of people by the hundreds in line at Papa John's locations and that the wait for pizza is hours long.

Is Anyone Outraged by the Behavior of Politicians?

Ohio Attorney General Marc Dann on Friday admitted to an extramarital affair with an employee in his office. It was the latest revelation in a sex scandal that led to the firings of two of Dann's top aides. Two other AG staffers, including the woman Dann had the affair with, also resigned.

Dann however said he will not resign and is working to regain the trust of voters.

This is the latest in a string of sex scandals involving elected officials. Does an admission of an extramarital affair on the part of a leader matter to voters? Should it?

Gas prices are inching closer to the $4 mark putting a crimp in budgets and maybe summer vacation plans.

If it was just gas prices that were skyrocketing that would be one thing, but it seems the prices on everything are rising at the same time. Household budgets just don't go as far as they did even just a few months ago.

Midwest Quake

A strong 5.2 magnitude earthquake centered in southern Illinois rattled much of the Midwest early Friday morning.

The U.S. Geological Survey says the epicenter was near the town of West Salem.

But people as far away as the greater Cleveland area felt the quake as did people in Milwaukee, Chicago and Indianapolis.

Great Lakes Water Debate

The Cleveland area may be having some tough times economically right now, but we have one resource that is the envy of some other parts of the country: water.

Sitting on the shores of Lake Erie, Ohio and the Great Lakes states, have access to water and plenty of it. Other parts of the country, including portions of the West and Sun Belt are literally drying up. The South is suffering through an historic drought.

Some say water could be the resource that revitalizes the region and brings people back. Others think it's an untapped resource that could be sold for revenue.

What do you think, should we sell Great Lakes water to other parts of the country or keep it?

Fishing Charter Changes

When the charter fishing season opens on Lake Erie in April, fishing enthusiasts will need more than just their reel and tackle for a day on the waters.

They will also need to bring a passport or two forms of identification if they plan to fish across the international border in Canadian waters. They will also have to report to Customs on their return.

It's all part of a Homeland Security Department decision to enforce the new border security rules.

Iraq War 5 Years Later

Wednesday marks the fifth anniversary of the start of the Iraq War.

To date, 3,990 members of the U.S. military have died in Iraq. More than 29,000 have been injured and the cost of the war has reached approximately $500 billion.

Ohio has lost more than 160 military members in the war.

Browns’ busy off-season

The Cleveland Browns continue to be one the busiest teams in the NFL this off-season. Owner Randy Lerner is on the verge of giving General Manager Phil Savage a contract extension following a 10-6 season.

Head Coach Romeo Crennel, offensive coordinator Rob Chudzinski and defensive coordinator Mel Tucker have already signed extensions.

They also re-signed quarterback Derek Anderson and running back Jamal Lewis.

Then Savage went out and signed wide receiver Donte Stallsworth from New England, traded for defensive linemen Corey Williams and Shaun Rodgers, signed offensive lineman Rex Hadnot from Miami and re-signed offensive lineman Lennie Friedman.

What do you think of the Browns’ moves thus far? Will they be better than last year or was the 10-6 season a fluke? Were the extension’s warranted after just one winning season?

Was re-signing Anderson the right move? Did the Browns go out and get the players they needed? Did they miss out on anyone? Did Savage make a good decision on trading away draft picks and Leigh Bodden to get Williams and Rodgers? Will Brady Quinn play this season?

NY Governor Sex Scandal

New York Governor Eliot Spitzer has announced he will step down effective March 17. The resignation comes just days after Spitzer was embroiled in a scandal amid allegations he was involved in a prostitution ring.

Spitzer is married and the father of 3 daughters.

It's not the first scandal involving a high profile politican or celebrity.

Snow Storm Sound-Off

It's a storm that no one will forget anytime soon. Last weekend's storm dumped 12-24" inches across northern Ohio. The storm dealt a knock-out punch that pretty much shut down everyone.

So we want to know who did the best when it came to keeping pace with the storm and then digging out once it was finally, mercifully over?

Polls have opened across Cuyahoga County ushering in yet another voting system--the optical scan ballot.

The ballots are supposed to be simpler for voters to understand and use. But it will take voters longer to work their way through the ballot since they have to manually fill out the selection ovals for their choices.

How was was your experience at the polls? Did you find the new ballot easier to use than the touch screen system? Were there any problems at your polling station?

Pothole Patrol

'Tis the season. The typical Ohio winter, cycling between sub freezing and spring-like balmy temperatures, is taking its toll on the area roads and highways.

We don't have to tell you, because you've probably been swerving around or landing in more than a few of these potholes on your daily travels.

Cavs Blockbuster Trade

The complex deal involves nearly a dozen players.

C.C.'s Statement

Tribe ace, C.C. Sabathia, issued a statement on his website Thursday morning saying that he's in effect tabling contract extension talks until the end of the season.

The Indians and C.C.'s representatives had been trying to hammer out a deal. But C.C. in his statemenet says now that spring training is here, he doesn't want to be distracted by on going talks. His statement says he remains hopeful a deal can be worked out with the Indians.

C.C. is eligible to become a free agent at the end of the 2008 season.
