For most items, the quality is very good. There are still items I couldn't get at Aldi's, so Marc's gets my business. On top of that, my daughter works at Marc's, so she shops for me and gets her employee discount. Every little bit helps. I stopped shopping at Giant Eagle and my food budget goes much further now.

Every store has weekly specials and I purchase tho...

Every store has weekly specials and I purchase those items then if I know that I will use it. Buy one get one free and so forth.
When I shop I also take into consideration the cleanliness of the store and the dates on the products. What good is a discount item if it goes bad in one day.
For fresh produce, shop local markets and even the West Side market for in season food.
Lastly, consider the employees. Are they minimum wage employees with no benefits? That puts an extra toll on the community to provide services and keeps the income taxes needed to run the community down. Unfortunately it has become a race to the bottom and because we only look at the bottom line price on a gimmie item in a store, the unionized employees trying to raise a family are sometimes forced to shop at non-union stores themselves. It is up to the community to raise these standards and learn the whole picture.

The cheapest store to buy groceries at, although d...

The cheapest store to buy groceries at, although depending on your needs is sometimes limited, is Aldi! Many of their products are actually name brand items-just packaged with a different label! I couldn't survive without that store, and the food quality is just as good. I buy the bulk of my food there, then Marc's, and whatever I can't get at those two stores I go to Giant Eagle for.
