Last year 1078 new Peugeots were registered in New Zealand, with the 307 the top pick.

In 2008 the intent is for sales to hit 1250, with the 307's aesthetically similar successor - the 308 - leading the charge.

Indeed, importer Sime Darby Automobiles NZ expects to sell 650 examples of the 308 this year, comparable with its best annual 307 count. It is a keen call, not least because the car has not been easy for the distributor to even lay hands on. Strong demand in Europe delayed launch
here by six months, and will restrict supply for another two.

One reason for confidence is that the starter model is a rarity - a medium-sized quality Euro hatch that sells for under $30,000.

Admittedly, this modest-performing XS 1.6-litre manual petrol version of the 308 undercuts the $30K mark by just $10, but this still provides a Corolla-challenging strategy other Euros cannot match without losing the full electrics, cruise control and climate air that are standard
308 fare.

Sime Darby marketing manager Rod Cunningham reckons on a $7000 advantage over a similarly-specified VW Golf. Peugeot is also offering an extra sweetener for at least six months - a three-year 60,000km service plan.

Tags: peugeot carsSmartcar Ownerhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03866791415998029823noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-23257039.post-10640511443451719192007-12-02T20:15:00.001+01:002007-12-02T20:15:27.667+01:00Peugeot Pars in EgyptMinister of industries and mines has announced that the production line for Peugeot Pars, a sedan made by Iranian automaker Iran Khodro, would soon be launched in Egypt.

Ali-Akbar Mehrabian, who arrived in the Egyptian capital Cairo on a three-day visit on Saturday, said that about 5,000 Peugeot Pars sedans are to be manufactured per year in Cairo in the first phase.

He underlined that if the demand for Peugeot Pars gains increases in the Egyptian market and conditions improve for expanding Iran's car market, the production line for other Iranian models would also be set up in Egypt.

The minister hoped that mutual cooperation in cement, power and textile industries would be possible and the private sectors of the two nations would also become involved.

He undertook the trip to conduct official negotiations with Egyptian officials.

Mehrabian said that he was invited by his Egyptian counterpart Rasheed Mohammed Rasheed. Having started from pole in each race thus far, the pair came up empty again in today's classic endurance race, felled an hour into the race by a failed wheel bearing.
Instead, the victory went to their Peugeot Sport teammates, Stephane Sarrazin and Pedro Lamy, who took a comfortable two-lap victory in today's six-hour race, consolidating their championship lead. Sarrazin and Lamy now have three victories to Minassian's and Gene's singular one.
Second overall, but easily a second per lap slower than the Peugeots, were Jean-Christophe Boullion and Emmanuel Collard in the #16 Pescarolo Sport. The Pescarolo-Judd doesn't have the pace of the diesel-powered Peugeots, but the team has reliability figured out, and to finish first, one must first finish, as the old adage goes.
Tags: peugeot carsSmartcar Ownerhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03866791415998029823noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-23257039.post-87112002352501648342007-08-03T02:30:00.001+02:002007-08-03T02:30:50.505+02:00Peugeot's 308 RC Z ConceptOne of the highlights of the upcoming 2007 Frankfurt IAA motor show in September is sure to be the Peugeot 308 RC Z concept car. The brutish, muscular looks of the 2x2 hatchback coupe are unashamedly reminiscent of the Audi TT, and Peugeot is using the concept to test the waters on a sporty variant of the standard 308. While the company points out that the aim of the RC Z, like any concept, is "to pioneer technical and styling ideas free from the constraints of volume production", the fact that it shares so many components with the existing hatchback hints that the RC Z might be quite close to production-ready. So the response it receives at Frankfurt, the world's largest motor show, could be very telling.

The Frankfurt IAA motor show will see the unveiling of Peugeot's latest concept, the 308 RC Z, based on the production 308 hatch and sedan. With a length of 4.276 (same as the hatchback), a width of 1.840 (25 mm more than the hatchback) and a height of only 1.320 m, the proportions of the 308 RC Z concept car combine a very dynamic design with a high level of road holding.

Tags: peugeot carsSmartcar Ownerhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03866791415998029823noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-23257039.post-69281509824307901092007-07-13T01:29:00.000+02:002007-07-13T01:30:16.290+02:00Peugeot's first SUV arrivesThe Peugeot 4007 is the company's first SUV and is set to arrive in UK showrooms shortly.

The off-roader is a joint collaboration between the PSA Peugeot Citroën group and the Mitsubishi Motor Corporation.

Peugeot's latest generation HDi engine means the 4007 emits less CO2 than some family cars and returns impressive 39.2mpg performance on the Combined Cycle.

The On-Demand 4WD System enables the driver to select three modes of drive whilst on the move.

Peugeot's 4007 is launched with two trim levels in the UK, either the SE at £22,790 or GT at £25,490 on-the-road.

Tags: peugeot carsSmartcar Ownerhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03866791415998029823noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-23257039.post-50530808908492592072007-05-19T21:02:00.001+02:002007-05-19T21:02:46.128+02:00More engine honours for PSA Peugeot CitroenIn a special ceremony held at the Royal Automobile Club, Pall Mall, today, PSA Peugeot Citroen has been presented with the award for Best Engine in the 2007 Van Fleet World Honours for its 1.6 litre HDi engine. The high pressure common-rail direct injection engine, developed jointly with Ford in the world’s largest diesel engine manufacturing programme, is available in a wide range of passenger cars in the Peugeot, Citroen and Ford group ranges. This engine is widely recognised in the LCV market for its excellent fuel efficiency and low emissions, coupled with refined driving capabilities. The engine is available in the Citroen Berlingo and Peugeot Partner at both 75hp and 90hp, and in the larger Citroen Dispatch and Peugeot Expert in 90hp. With more models due to be powered by this engine, its full potential has yet to be realised. The award underlines the Group’s capabilities in engine design and manufacture, as well as its active commitment to lowering CO2 emissions. The broad deployment of modern HDi common-rail technologies across the Peugeot and Citroen model ranges has driven a 20% reduction in CO2 emissions compared with the previous generation of engines. The Group has sold almost 10 million HDi common-rail diesel engines to date. The 1.6HDi, like all other Euro IV PSA Peugeot Citroen diesel engines, can run on up to 30% bio-diesel without modification. The award follows victory last week in the 1.4 to 1.8 litre category in the 2007 International Engine of the Year Awards for the direct injection, turbo petrol engine jointly developed by PSA Peugeot Citroen and BMW Group
Tags: peugeot carsSmartcar Ownerhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03866791415998029823noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-23257039.post-68437386278464174492007-05-19T21:01:00.000+02:002007-05-19T21:02:16.087+02:00Peugeot extend 207 line-up with GTiFrom June the Peugeot 207 GTi THP 175 model priced at £14,995 will be added to the high-selling 207 range of three and five door hatchbacks, CC coupe-convertibles and small panel vans in the UK.
The 207 line-up will be further extended this month with a four-speed Tiptonic automatic transmission option becoming available for 1.6-litre petrol three and five door Sport and five door SE models with prices ranging from £12,822 to £13,622.
The 207 SW estate models with petrol and diesel engine options will be added to the range in July, with prices yet to be announced. Theses will be followed by a recreational version based on their SW Outdoor concept model.
The Peugeot 207 was launched last July into the rapidly expanding ‘supermini’ range of passenger cars. This sector has shown the best growth in the UK new car market this year with sales up by 7.5 per cent.
Customers, either up or down-sizing because of taxation and traffic congestion issues, are being attracted into this sector by the increase in interior space, added specification and seating and load carrying versatility offered by the new generation of larger ‘superminis’.
Since the 207 launch last July Peugeot has sold over 50,000 of them in the UK and this year, with the addition of CC and SW derivatives, they expect to sell close to 70,000 units.
In 2008 they estimate 207 hatchbacks will achieve 70,000 UK sales, CC models 10,000 and the SW estate version 10,000 registrations each. The 207 is the overall best selling model range in Europe.
The UK sales objective for the new GTi is 700 units this year and 1,000 units in 2008. Most sales will come from retail and business user-chooser customers. As a range the 207 attracts 67 per cent of its sales from these customers.
Tags: peugeot carsSmartcar Ownerhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03866791415998029823noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-23257039.post-53761797357757017752007-03-24T21:25:00.001+01:002007-03-24T21:25:48.360+01:00Turbo heaven for 207The Peugeot 207 GT has arrived, bringing with it a much-needed power hike and a host of standard features. Just 121 of these cars will be made available in SA, so if you can’t wait for the GTI version you’d better get your skates on!
By Gareth DeanTime, it seems, cannot pass swiftly enough for Peugeot fans, who eagerly await the arrival of the 207 GTI. Those bereft of patience and wanting the sporty looks and exclusivity attached to performance Peugeots will be glad to hear that the three-door 207 GT has arrived, bringing with it a new turbocharged powerplant. This car’s four-cylinder 1,6 litre powerplant is the result of a joint collaboration between PSA Peugeot Citroën and the BMW Group and comes equipped with two overhead camshafts and 16 valves. According to Peugeot, the THP (Turbo High Pressure) unit delivers 110 kW at 5 800 r/min, 240 N.m from 1 400 r/min, and will propel the 207 GT to a 240-km/h top speed. Furthermore, the 207 GT is said to be capable of covering a kilometer in 29,4 secs from a standing start. Drive is directed to the front wheels via a five-speed manual gearbox similar to that found in many other Peugeots, but with closer ratios to make greater use of the available power. The decision to go with a smaller turbocharged engine over a normally aspirated 2,0-litre unit was influenced by the increasing demand for reduced fuel consumption and emissions. Peugeot claim a combined cycle fuel consumption figure in the region of 7 litres per 100 km.Among the new technologies showcased in the THP engine is a Twin-Scroll turbocharger that combines exhaust gases with the airflow from the turbo' itself - pushing the turbine speed of the blower up to 220 000 r/min. That technology, when combined with high-pressure fuel injection, overcomes the usual issue of turbo-lag and provides significant boost from just over 1 000 r/min, the firm says.Safety features include ABS, Electronic Brake Force Distribution, EBA, ASR traction control, CDS stability control and a set of ventilated disc brakes (283 x 26mm front, 249 x 9 mm rear) to provide swift and potent stopping power.Badged as the 207 GT Limitée, the three-door model sports such features as 17-inch alloy wheels shod with 205/45 R17 Pirelli P Zero Nero tyres, panoramic glass sunroof, full leather trim, MP3 CD player, directional headlamps, automatic lights, tyre pressure sensors, automatic windscreen wipers with rain sensors, six airbags and folding electric mirrors. The 207 GT costs R 209 900, which includes a 3-year/100 000 km warranty and Peugeot Assistance plan.
Tags: peugeot carsSmartcar Ownerhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03866791415998029823noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-23257039.post-1168121804342107462007-01-06T23:16:00.000+01:002007-01-06T23:16:44.356+01:00Peugeot sales steady in a declining 2006 marketPeugeot new car sales remained buoyant in a UK market which saw a decline of 3.9%. With a total of 144,132 car sales Peugeot strengthened its position in the UK market, with a market share of 6.15%. This ensured that Peugeot regained fourth place in the manufacturers’ league table, comfortably reaffirming its position as the UK’s favourite French car brand. Sales of the new 207 have been particularly strong, over 27,000 units have been sold since the launch in July 2006. This represents a 2% increase over initial sales of 206, which went on to become the best selling Peugeot of all time and the UK’s favourite retail car for three consecutive years. Following its launch in October 1998, the 206 sold over 26,000 units in its first 6 months.Small car sales have always been a Peugeot strength and in 2006 Peugeot’s small car sales grew by over 6%. The UK car buying public continued its love affair with ‘open top’ motoring in 2006 and Peugeot comfortably secured its place as the leading supplier of cabriolets in the UK. This is set to continue in 2007 with the introduction of the stunning new Peugeot 207 Coupé Cabriolet which takes over from the 206CC, the world’s most successful small cabriolet – just in time for another scorching summer.2006 was a particularly strong year for Peugeot Fleet, with sales improving 15.4% to 75,290 units. Meanwhile, Peugeot LCV sales remained solid in 2006 with 16,947 vans sold. With the recently launched new Boxer and the new Expert scheduled for launch in the first quarter of 2007, sales in this sector look set to grow.In 2007 Peugeot is set to further strengthen its product line up with the launch of the eagerly awaited 207 GTi, SW and CC and the dynamic 4007. The season of goodwill towards Peugeot customers has also been extended with a host of tempting offers. These include the 107 Urban Lite available at just £5995 and one year’s free insurance available on the fabulous new 207 GT THP 150.*
Tags: peugeot carsSmartcar Ownerhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03866791415998029823noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-23257039.post-1167171153383438182006-12-26T23:12:00.000+01:002006-12-26T23:12:33.396+01:00Thieves target 'easy' PeugeotsPEUGEOT 106 and 205s - favourites of boy racer drivers - are being hit by a mini-crimewave.
The sporty hatchbacks, dubbed superminis by petrol-heads,are being targeted by thieves in Lambeth.
And cops believe the word has gone out on the underworld grapevine that the vehicles are a soft touch.
A police source said: "There have been more than 100 break-ins and thefts from 106s and 205s in the last six months.
"People have just been popping the doors. It is obviously quite easy to do.

Tags: peugeot carsSmartcar Ownerhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03866791415998029823noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-23257039.post-1163714365218867822006-11-16T22:58:00.000+01:002006-11-16T22:59:25.220+01:00Peugeot 107 - worth the money
Peugeot's new 107 proves that cheap and cheerful need not translate into cheap and nasty when used to describe an entry-level car. The 107 sells in three variants, and even the base-model XR comes with five doors, dual airbags, electrically assisted power steering, ABS brakes, a rear wiper and a full-sized spare wheel. For less than R90 000 that's a lot of specification. Add air con and a radio/CD player, and the price goes up to R94 900, which sounds like a bargain to me, and the range-topping 107 C-line comes with side airbags, electric front windows, a 50:50 split rear seat, rear headrests and a rev counter, along with black plastic protective side strips, all for R105 900.One of the reasons the Peugeot can be sold so affordably is that production costs have been reduced through benefits of scale. The car is produced in the Czech Republic, in a joint-venture plant that has the capacity to produce 320 000 cars a year. Not all of these are badged as Peugeots, though -- Toyota sells the same basic vehicle as the Aygo, and Citroen sells their version as the C1, also launched in South Africa at Auto Africa two weeks ago. All three of the 107 derivatives on sale here use the same engine and gearbox combination -- an all-aluminium, one-litre, three-cylinder petrol unit, with four valves per cylinder and variable valve timing on the inlet camshaft. This engine, which weighs in at just 67 kg, is the same unit you'll find under the bonnet of the entry-level Toyota Yaris, and when we drove it in that car we loved it. Power output in the tune selected by Peugeot is 50 kW at 6 000 rpm, with a useful 93 Nm of torque on tap from 3 600 rpm. The factory claims overall fuel consumption of just 4,6 litres/100km. There's no doubt that the 107 is going to prove a very popular choice in South Africa. It offers loads of value for money, and the engineering is superb. The only concern for local buyers remains the standard of backup and service in this country, which has attracted plenty of criticism in the past. Peugeot swears that it has attended to the problem. We'll have to wait and see

Tags: peugeot carsSmartcar Ownerhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03866791415998029823noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-23257039.post-1163714284696482372006-11-16T22:57:00.000+01:002006-11-16T22:58:04.716+01:00Peugeot 207 GT THP 150The 207 GT THP 150 - some considerable distance from being the most elegantly-named car Peugeot has ever devised - is mechanically a very close relation to the forthcoming GTi. Both cars share the same turbocharged 1.6-litre petrol engine developed by PSA Peugeot Citroen and BMW, and already found in the MINI Cooper S. (The two companies shared the project more or less equally, though Peugeot is keen to stress that all the parts are built at its factory in Douvrin, and BMW simply assembles its engines from parts that are shipped over to the Hams Hall plant.)
The Cooper S engine produces 175bhp, and so will the one in the 207 GTi. The GT THP uses a 150bhp derivative, which differs from the 175 in that it uses different ECU mapping and doesn't have an intercooler. But it still makes this the fastest 207 so far.

Tags: peugeot carsSmartcar Ownerhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03866791415998029823noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-23257039.post-1159825122761925472006-10-02T23:36:00.000+02:002006-10-02T23:38:42.776+02:00Peugeot 207 GTExcitement is reaching fever pitch for fans of performance Peugeots. Next year sees the arrival of the new 207 GTi - a hot hatch which looks set to rival the class-leading Renaultsport Clio 197, with razor-sharp handling and racy looks to match.

Simply put, the 207 GT is one of the best handling cars Peugeot has built since the firm's Eighties heyday. It offers keen drivers some real fun in twisty bends

It promises to be the first sporty Peugeot that truly lives up to the legend of the original 205 GTi. But if you can't wait a few months - or something less fiery would suit your budget better - how about this, the 207 GT?

It's powered by the same 1.6-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine as the forthcoming GTi, but it has a little less boost, so power drops to 150bhp.

However, with the 0-60mph sprint taking around eight seconds and a top speed in the region of 130mph, it still provides plenty of punch on paper. So how does it shape up on the road?

Well, if you're looking for a car that turns heads wherever you go, the 207 GT isn't quite it. There's no doubt the sleek lines and panoramic glass roof are appealing, but there's not even a new badge on the tailgate to help mark the newcomer out. Visually, the petrol GT is identical to its diesel-powered brother, as it comes with the same 17-inch alloy wheels, subtle bodykit and spotlights mounted in the egg-crate front grille. Clearly Peugeot wants to make sure there's plenty of distance between the GT and GTi models.

Inside, it's a similar story, with white-faced dials, drilled alloy pedals and a metal gearknob dropping the only hints that you're in something sporty. However, accelerate hard away from a standstill, and it's clear that the 207 GT is no ordinary supermini.

The new 1.6-litre powerplant was jointly developed by PSA Peugeot Citroen and BMW, and will also power the new MINI. The unit features direct-injection and a twin-scroll turbo-charger - which is designed to help reduce lag - and the warm hatch kicks out a useful 240Nm of torque from only 1,400rpm. With such low-down urge, it feels a bit like a diesel, but the bonus is that this thrust continues right across the rev range.

Unlike the frantic, high-revving nature of the Clio 197's normally aspirated motor, it's straightforward to access the 207 GT's power, and the result is fast progress and simple overtaking. However, despite shorter gear ratios, shifts of the five-speed box still feel too long, and cog-swapping is a vague process.

Tags: peugeot carsSmartcar Ownerhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03866791415998029823noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-23257039.post-1158909789925827382006-09-22T09:22:00.000+02:002006-09-22T09:23:09.926+02:00Peugeot/Citroen Designers Do Battle
PSA Peugeot Citroen is setting its own designers against each other to create the cars of the future for the two brands. A total of four design studios of equal size have been created for the purpose in the company's 70,000 square metre Automotive Design Network Centre in Paris (pictured), which was opened in October 2004.
The purpose of ADN was to bring all Peugeot and Citroen's styling and engineering teams so that they could work together under one roof. Two years on, the focus has changed considerably. Of the four new studios, two will contain Peugeot stylists and the other two will house Citroen designers. The head of each Citroen studio will report directly to Citroen's styling manager, who will "foster the competitive spirit" - whatever that means, exactly - and presumably pick the most appealing design for the next new model. The same thing will also be going on at Peugeot.

This does mean, of course, that whenever a new Citroen or Peugeot is introduced, one of the design teams will have had all its ideas rejected. Good news for the company, perhaps, but we can see it leading to several hissy fits. You know what artists are like.

Tags: peugeot carsSmartcar Ownerhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03866791415998029823noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-23257039.post-1158909731290528102006-09-22T09:21:00.000+02:002006-09-22T09:22:11.293+02:00Peugeot 307 HDi Touring
Concerned about rising fuel prices? Want a medium-sized vehicle with plenty of load carrying capacity? Prefer a manual transmission? If the answer to these questions is ‘yes’, you’d be well advised to have a close look at the Peugeot 307 HDi 2-litre wagon.

The 307 XSE model comes with a 6-speed manual transmission and a turbo 16-valve diesel that develops 100kW at 4000 rpm and a very strong 320Nm at 2000 rpm. The latter figure simply means there’s plenty of power available at low revs, so this is an easy car to lug around in, up-changing early and saving fuel. However, if you want to go harder, the engine spins easily to higher revs – 4000 rpm is an accessible figure at which to change up. Peugeot claims a 0-100 km/h figure of 11.4 seconds but such is the availability of torque, the car often feels quicker than that. It’s certainly a car that will never be embarrassed for a lack of power. However, the turbo diesel feels like it runs a larger turbo than most Peugeot diesels – there is a little turbo lag present.

Tags: peugeot carsSmartcar Ownerhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03866791415998029823noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-23257039.post-1158909677729314622006-09-22T09:19:00.000+02:002006-09-22T09:21:17.740+02:00Peugeot keeps small cars competitiveEntry-level drivers to the small car market have plenty of choice, so much so that it can be confusing. Try to buy a small car, such as the Peugeot 107, and you're immediately faced with choices. The choice comes down to the Peugeot 107, Citroen's C1 or the Toyota Aygo, because the cars are virtually identical in terms of design. Their entry-level prices are the same also. Michael Moroney drove the Peugeot 107 as his competitive choice
The Peugeot 107 is one of three small car models from a Toyota/PSA manufacturing deal. It's economical, stylish and competitively priced at ?11,550 before delivery charges.
decision looks simple: buy a car with an engine capacity of less than 1,000cc to keep insurance and running costs down. But now you've got choices to make. I've had the new Peugeot 107 on the road recently as a sample of the entry-level car for many first time drivers. The car is compact and modern looking and is more spacious than you would first imagine. And it's a simple car to drive. What's difficult about the 107 is that you've got choices to make. You can get virtually the same package in the shape of the Citroen C1 or the Toyota Aygo. And they all come on the market at the same entry price of ?11,550 before delivery charges. All three models are built in the same factory in the Czech Republic as part of a Toyota/PSA joint venture. The three-cylinder petrol engine for the entry model is a Toyota design. This is lively, if not a shade noisy, but it performs well. The Peugeot 107 will do a 0 to 100km/hr race in 14 seconds as you run through the five-speed gearbox. That's not a speedster performance, but it's about as fast as it gets in a small under 1000cc car and is faster than the likes of the Fiat Panda, Kia Picanto and Hyundai Getz. There's a lively buzz from the tidy engine, where the power delivery gets smoother at higher revs. So this smaller engine is not an impediment to pace. You get a lively drive with reasonable comfort and it's economical. The petrol engine delivers a class leading economy figure of 4.6 litres per 100km (61mpg) in a combined driving cycle that's a mix of town and country driving. Even in dense city traffic with stop start driving you can expect to top the 5.5 litres/100km (51mpg) figure. The economy performance across all three models, the 107, C1 and Aygo, is identical, due to a 90+% common features. Its economy is well ahead of the competition, where the likes of the Fiat Panda and Opel Agila have an almost 20 per cent greater fuel usage level. That alone is enough to give the 107 a second thought. The Peugeot 107 package, like that of the Aygo and C1, is impressive for the size of the car. The standard specification includes front airbags, power steering, ABS brakes and height adjustable steering wheel. The differences between the three models relate to the extras included across the three different brands and there are varying colour options.

Tags: peugeot carsSmartcar Ownerhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03866791415998029823noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-23257039.post-1144544165342129802006-04-09T02:54:00.000+02:002006-04-09T02:56:05.343+02:00China's Dongfeng Peugeot Citroen Jan-Mar car sales up 33 pct at 43,728 units
BEIJING (AFX) - Dongfeng Peugeot Citroen Automobiles Co Ltd (DPCA) said its car sales in the first three months rose 33 pct year-on-year to 43,728 units. Car output surged 62 pct year-on-year to 42,208 units during the same period, the company said in a statement. In March alone, the venture's sales stood at 16,500 units and output was 18,200 units, both at record highs. It did not provide a percentage change. DPCA is PSA Peugeot-Citroen's only joint venture in China, with partner Dongfeng Automobile Corp, the country's third-largest automaker. PSA Peugeot Citroen said earlier this week that it plans to jointly build a second assembly plant in China with Dongfeng Motor Group, with the location yet to be decided. DPCA has set a sales target of 200,000 units this year, compared with sales of 141,000 units in 2005. The new trim level is called Sport, and it slots in between SE and Executive to come second in what is now a four-tier range. In addition to what you already get in the SE, the Sport adds electric front seat adjustment, a 6-CD autochanger, rear parking sensors and a multi-function colour display screen. Engine options here are the 2.2-litre petrol and HDi 136 turbo diesel units.
The HDi 136 isn't the new diesel, though. That's the 205bhp 2.7-litre twin turbo HDi V6, which is already been in the 407 Coupé and is also familiar in various Jaguars, Land Rovers and so on. Peugeot is supplying the V6 only with 407s in the Executive trim levels, where it joins the HDi 136 and three-litre petrol V6.

Another new feature is a six-speed automatic gearbox to go with the HDi 136 in SE, Sport and Executive models, in addition to the existing manual versions. The 2.7 V6 gets automatic transmission as standard.

Tags: peugeot 407Smartcar Ownerhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03866791415998029823noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-23257039.post-1142372535362464032006-03-14T22:40:00.000+01:002006-03-14T22:42:15.376+01:00Peugeot 307 XSE

The Peugeot 307 XSE 5-speed manual is a car about which we feel ambivalent. It has some good points and it has some bad. Trouble is, often the good and bad are about the one aspect of the car.

Take interior space. With its tall body design, the 307 has a large amount of room under the hatch, in the back seat and in the front. The doors open wide and the car comes complete with a cargo net. But for the driver, that interior space is outweighed by the pedals that are offset to the left, in turn forcing the driver’s leg in that direction - and so quickly revealing the lack of room next to the clutch pedal and the intrusiveness of the centre console. (And the pedals are so close together, and so close to interior trim bits, no-one with large shoes will be able to comfortably drive.)

The door pockets front and rear are huge, but then when the front seat passenger leans forward and opens the glovebox, everyone gives a hollow laugh. The open glovebox reveals that the lid could be half the size – the space comes pre-filled with a black box. Just as well there are underseat storage trays. At a glance the 307 is a practical, roomy car – then you find the front fold-down armrests are much too short - and are not adjustable for angle - and so are awkward to use; the centre console drinks holder won’t take even a small bottle; and the driver’s seat is adjustable only for rear height – the seat pivots around a front point and so the forward part of the seat cannot be adjusted up or down. (And we wanted it down!) Hmmm. However, at least the steering is both height- and reach-adjustable.
Tags: peugeot 307Smartcar Ownerhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03866791415998029823noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-23257039.post-1142030489422352842006-03-10T23:40:00.000+01:002006-03-10T23:41:29.423+01:00Peugeot 1007 1.4 HDi 70 Sport
Peugeot is trying these days to occupy every nook and cranny of what's known as the B segment. Perhaps this wide choice is just as well, because the word from the trade is that the 1007 isn't shifting.
