New logo

A new logo for our new site and overhaul of our dealership. Not a big deal but I think its an improvement. The old logo used a stretched Rockwell bold. I refreshed it with Clarendon and Avenir. I'm a big fan of Avenir and I probably use it too much. Instead of black, I used a very dark blue. Since its for our Chicago dealership, I had to include the stars from the city flag. The illustration is a bit too busy and detailed for its size and will probably go away eventually, but I like it anyways.

It's here! Our new catalog. Almost 260 pages of scooter stuff for everyone. From the hardcore patch covered rider with a tent (or 12 pack) strapped to his rack to the happy go lucky rider just looking for a better top case. Months of blood, sweat and an embarassing amount of tears went into this thing. Only two designers worked on this (thats layout, typography, color theory, photography, iconography, and everything else on the page that isn't copy), so that is the biggest deal to me. Genuine touts being America's smallest scooter company, but scooterworks is even smaller. Go to your local scooterworks direct dealer and check it out, they should be in the mail already.

Heres an illustration that probably wont ever be used at work. But I put some decent time and effort into it regardless. About a weekends worth, or two afternoons. All original, from the photo I took for the source of the scooter to the girl which wasn't drawn with a reference. Vector.

We make scooter covers. Our old pictures of the products were really wrinkled. We tried steaming them out and reshooting, but we really weren't successful, and with time constraints we moved on to other projects and procrastinated on reshooting a 3rd time. So when I had some quiet time to myself I attacked with Photoshop. There is another model of cover but I'm not displaying it. The photos obviously go on the packaging, print catalog and web catalog.

We have a redux of a scooter coming out in 2009. Its based on the whole Rat Rod look. Matte black (or primer), pop color on the wheels (red or green), white wall tires, missing body panels (weight savings), big engine.

A dealer did a scooter up on his own last year or the year before and I've done mine up too, because its an awesome scheme. I also got to design the official logo, based on that dealers logo. It was ok before but I wanted to make it pop and give it more strength. The gradient blue is supposed to represent blue fire, as is the orange and yellow of the flame itself. I also had to limit some things because its going to be placed as a badge on the bike itself and the printer can't do gradients on badging.

I saw that the original logo had potential but was lacking, so I took ownership and really attempted to bring it up so that it could stand on its own as a logo. Its a badass scooter and it deserves a good brand.

iPhone App

I was commissioned to create several icons for the site shacknews.com last year. In addition I created some spot illustrations for their articles and awards. This one in particular has seen a lot of use, and is now used on an iPhone/iPod Touch app called Latest Chatty. You can preview it by looking at the fifth thumbnail.

The app has since become a "staff pic" or favorite. Pretty cool since I really had nothing to do with it but get to say that I made the silly little loading screen logo.
