This magazine scan has been found in the wild........if you check out the left picture, it looks to be a more manic version of Triggerheart for the Playstation 2! Thanks to the guys at Destructoid, it is now known that the Japanese version will be out this Winter, and Faintear will be a playable character! Count me in........

Ultimate Shooting Collection for Wii

Shmup friendly UFO Interactive will be bringing the "Ultimate Shooting Collection" to the Wii this September 23rd. Priced at only $30, this disc will include Chaos Field, Radilgy, and Karous (the second two are almost the same game anyway.....). That's quite the deal at $10 per game, however I highly disagree with the name of this product. The Ultimate Shooting Collection would consist of Kamui, Radiant Silvergun, and Thunderforce 6 all on one disc.

Shred Nebula: More XBLA arena generic shooters...

Shred Nebula has been announced for the XBLA.....another Asteroids type dual analog Super Stardust looking clone. It features deathmatches via system link or over Live Arcade. Release date is 3rd Quarter of 2008.

Sorry if this post sounds sarcastic, but these type of games are getting to be a dime a dozen. Please stop flooding the market with cheap arena shmups and make the effort to create a genuine scrolling, leveled traditional shooter.

Next Sega shmup remake Fantasy Zone?

These images were spotted at a Japanese Sega show. The left one is obviously TF6 (looks to be a PLAYABLE version already........drool.......), and the right is Fantasy Zone Complete Collection, with a release date of September 11. Could this be the 2nd of the STG project that Sega is working on?

UPDATE: FZ Complete is not part of the STG projects, it's been announced a while back.

Gradius Rebirth coming for Wiiware

While I'd rather see Gradius on a "higher powered" next gen system, I'll take a new Gradius in any form I can get it. Gradius Rebirth seems to follow the path of Megaman 9, being released on Wiiware and having an entirely old-school look. Release date is sometime this sommer in Japan, and I'm pretty sure we will see a US port.

Trial version 1.0 of Reflex out!

Not a lot of content added from the last demo.......you can now fight the boss of level three, which bleeds into the intro of level 4, but that's it. And I think they improved on the music a bit too.....

Look like the full game will feature 7 levels and be out next month at Comiket.

Galaga Legions XBLA

The X-Box 360 is getting another shmup sequel via Live Arcade, this time its Galaga Legions. Gameplay looks to be pattern based, as the videos show hordes of ships attacking the player as you try to pick the best weapon and location to defeat the enemies.

Did I call it or what? Seems that the "Project STG 0-1" did mean something, as Sega plans to revive several more shmup franchises. There are two more shooter rebirths in the pipeline, and possibly more depending on the succes of TF6. So all you shmup fans, be sure to support these projects by buying a copy of Thunderforce when it comes out.

Time to speculate: what are the other two games? Seeing how Sega went to Technosoft, could Axelay 2 be in the works as promised so long ago?

- Every picture on that page is a remake of a previous boss. They are relying HEAVILY on established TF material.

- At the bottom right, it says "Project STG-001". Could this mean Sega is working on more shooter projects?

So here's what I can gather from the scans:

1) The weapons appear to be the same as TF5. I can spot free-range, hunter, wave, etc.

2) They are really pulling from previous games for themes/content. Notice the fire level and destroyed city.

3) There appears to be a recycled boss from TF 3 (Hydra).

4) The engine is 3-D based with 2-D gameplay (like Ikaruga)

5) This looks very promising - almost like an upgrade of TF5.

6) It's being developed by Sega.

Trouble Witches 2

Studio Siesta has opened the Trouble Witches 2 section of their website here. The tagline for this version is "The descendants of Ancient Dragon the Souless". No screenshots or information about gameplay just yet. I'm curious to see just how much, if at all, they change the game engine.

UPDATE: According to the latest Famitsu, Thunderforce 6 will be released for the PS2 in Japan on October 30, 2008. Keeping it on the PS2 makes sense, since Technosoft probably doesn't have the funds to develop for the next gen systems and has been out of the loop for a long time. I was really hoping for a hi-def, insanely next gen shooter, but I guess PS2 will have to do. Now I really hope it's on par with late-gen ps2 titles such as God of War 2, and not just an upgraded Thunderforce 5.

More doujin updates: Patriot Dark

Another doujin work has been updated with more levels, this time it's Patriot Dark by Temperance Lance. PD is heavily influenced by the DonPachi series, so if you are a fan of Cave or bullet hell in general, check this one out. The new version has three playable levels, and is available here.

Genetos progress!

I've been a huge fanboy of the game Genetos, which lets you play through the history of shmups (yes, the game is innovative as that sounds.....). The developer has stated in his diary that the next generation is coming soon. It features background shifting (as in Ikaruga I assume) and homing lasers for big combos. I can't wait, this project keeps getting better.

Eden's Aegis updated

x.x has updated Eden's Aegis to .20, which adds level two onto the game. For those who don't know, x.x is basically the Cave of doujin shmups. All his works are worth checking out, and Eden's Aegis won't disappoint. Get to downloading here.

Bit Pilot scheduled to return!

Nine wheels has informed me that their MMOSTG, Bit Pilot, is being updated and improved at this time, and has plans to relaunch again in about two months. I missed this game the first time around, and will be looking forward to more online shmupping. The vs. mode plays like Twinkle Star Sprites with up to four players (team battles), and if you are not into that, a mulitplayer mission mode can keep you busy too.

Otomedius G September 25th for the 360

Otomedius G (for Gorgeous) will be headed for Japanese X-Box 360s on 9-25-8. New for the console are a competitive boss rush mode and a co-op mode. The game will also feature customizations purchasable from XBLA, such as new stages, music and characters. I just hope they start porting these 360 shmups to the US.

Chalk up another disc based shmup release on the 360 - this time it's Raiden 4. According to Famitsu, the console version will have 2 additional stages, along with the other slew of (now almost standard) goodies: replay saves, leaderboards, different game modes, tate option.

Boy, am I on an MMO kick. Sadly, this one passed under the radar until shut down. It's called Bit Pilot, developed by Nine Wheels and published by Enport Soft. The engine looks like Twinkle Star Sprites (as do the 4 player vs matches), but there is also a mission mode, as shown here:

The more I play this, the more I like it. Sure, the shmup action is not on the level of Cave or most doujins, but it's still very cool.

So, with features like 6 player team matches, clans, item trading and the like, why not start a BR community? We could use some more players, the most I've seen online at once is about seven. Why not create a set meeting time and have a bunch of us play online at the same time? Let's hear some feedback about this via comments, the STC forum, or email.

My username is shmupnut for those who want to "buddy" me, and the download link for the game is here for the noobs. This is a (currently) free online multiplayer shmup people, lets jump on this.

UPDATE: We've got 4-5 in the STC clan going so far, so come join! Server is more stable now, so if someone wants to suggest a day/time, go for it!
