We will do this on Thursday January 4th.  Tigers will test at normal class time of 4:00, and WYO belts will do the same, testing at 4:30 in what would be their normal time. All other belts will test at 6:00...and we will have open practice form 5:15 until 6:00 so people can tune up.  Doing this on the 4th allows you to come back after the holidays to the Tuesday 2nd and Wednesday 3rd classes and practice/shake off the cob webs.  Remember you can practice over the holidays, especially those of you that were in need of some work. In light of this, and the white out conditions expected, we are cancelling tonight's family class.  We will assess the severity and progress of the storm through tonight and tomorrow, and decide if we will move testing to a future date. This is a distinct possibility, and the alternate date would likely be January 3rd...giving the testers that Tuesday the 2nd to come in and tune up.  PRACTICE with this extra time, stretch, make this an opportunity to perfect and not one to relax and goof off. Over the past few months it has become clear that Tuesday and Thursday are the much preferred nights to train, in fact 90% of our students come on those nights.  This leaves Monday and Wednesday very sparse, with just few students all night, and some classes with none.  It is much more effective for students to train with at lease a few others in the same class; it improves the dynamics, energy, excitement, and the fun factor. Obviously it is more motivating and efficient as well for the instructors, and better for the school over all.   Therefore we are going to discontinue Monday and Wednesday classes for now, starting on October ninth there will be no classes these nights.  We will continue with our full schedule on T-Th-Sat, and be able to offer better staffing and instruction on those nights.  If you truly need to train on a Monday or Wednesday, you are always welcome to attend at ATA west, and the schedules will be available at our school this coming week for you. However, a new study by researchers at the University of Missouri-Columbia shows that a relatively high-intensity exercise is superior in reducing stress and anxiety that may lead to heart disease. Moreover, the researchers found that high-intensity exercise especially benefits women.&lt;o:p&gt;&lt;/o:p&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;&lt;span style="font-family:Arial;font-size:85%;"&gt;&lt;span style="color:#ffff99;"&gt;“Conventional wisdom says that exercising for 30 minutes at a moderate exercise intensity is more effective in reducing anxiety than either a low or high intensity dose,” said Richard Cox, professor of educational and counseling psychology and leader of the study. “This conclusion, however, is deceptively simple because reductions in anxiety are not always observed immediately following a high intensity bout of exercise.” &lt;o:p&gt;&lt;/o:p&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;&lt;span style="font-family:Arial;font-size:85%;"&gt;&lt;span style="color:#ffff99;"&gt;In the study, female participants, ages 18 to 20 and 35 to 45, completed three experimental sessions. Each session started with a test to determine the anxiety level of the participant. Following the test, the women either did not exercise (control condition) or exercised at a moderate or high-intensity level for 33 minutes. After the session, Cox measured anxiety levels at 5, 30, 60 and 90 minutes post-exercise. &lt;o:p&gt;&lt;/o:p&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;&lt;span style="font-family:Arial;font-size:85%;"&gt;&lt;span style="color:#ffff99;"&gt;Although all three exercise conditions, including the control condition, showed a decline in anxiety over time, Cox found the high-intensity level experienced the sharpest decline. The times below are for each belt segments...and by the way K4K means Karate For Kids, and is the 7-12 year olds that are between tiger age, and not in the 13 and up adult program yet...basically the kids.  So, be sure you know your time, and if you want to see the demonstrations near your times show up for them (10:30 &amp; 1:45).  Also, only students who are Black/Red and above already test Friday night, and red/red with one stripe test on Saturday.  Thanks.  &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;APRIL 29th: Testing Saturday for all color belts, Red one and below at ATA west--Times are below.
