Hi children!

I´m sure you feel really happy with your holidays. Probably you are in the swimming pool now, riding a bike, running in Peñueco, reading a book or ...playing with your Play Station or computer. I wish you a wonderful summer time. Remember you can enjoy your time reading books too and singing Lemon Tree the song we listened last week from Isabel Perez´s Blog. By the way, thanks Isabel and happy holidays too!!

END OF THE SCHOOL YEAR

On Friday 22nd was the last day of school. The day before we celebrated a festival in Viguera with all our pupils from the five villages. We spent a wonderful time there! . On friday I went just with my pupils to a marvellous place near the village and we improvised an open air theatre to perform the play The Lion and the Mouse

Finally, during this cultural week our pupils have been working on different topics and subjects in relation with the English life and culture, such as: sports, festivals, famous people, weather, currancy, London...They have been working in groups in the different schools: Viguera, Medrano and Entrena. Here you can have a look to some projects they made with my colleagues Ana de La Hera and Sergio Nevot and with me.

We are celebrating the English Cultural Week in our schools ( CRA Moncalvillo ). We have many diferent activities to learn and enjoy. One of my colleagues, Ana de la Hera, teacher of english in Entrena and Medrano has made a Power Point Presentation to show in our classes. This is the first activity from the programme.

The second term is over. Yesterday we started with the patchwork heart we are sewing for Mother´s Day. Pay attention to them! They are very concentrated on their works, above all, threading the needles!

Now, let´s act it out!

The lion and the mouse is an Aesop Fable . Fables teach a lesson or moral. This story teaches how we can help each other no matter how we are.

We have to work hard learning the dialogues and decorating the stage. By the end of the school year we will perform the play in our class and we will record a short video to show you all.

Patchwork fun!

Do you know what a quilt is? and... What does patchwork mean?

Well, to answer these questions I invited Julia Baigorri to our class. Julia is a teacher of english, a poet and she loves patchwork. She is really a wonderful woman!

She told the children the origins of patchwork. Its way from the Near East to Europe and then to America. The lifestyle of the pioneers who settled in the west and their lives in the new frontier. They reviwed and learn words from many topics. They spent a happy time with her. The idea now is to sew a patchwork heart to present on Mother´s Day. The heart design has been made by Mª Jesús a patchwork artist and teacher from Logroño.

Yesterday we spent a wonderful afternoon with Carmen.
Carmen is a potter from Logroño. She is very kind and she came to teach us some pottery techniques. Everybody was delighted and we learnt a lot.
She had another surprise for us. She has just arrived from a trip to India, so she showed us some coins and some pottery.
Thank you very much Carmen. You are really a good teacher!

NATIVE AMERICAN INDIAN ART is the art produced by the first americans and their descendants.

We are going to learn about their pottery and to colour a very famous Mimbres Bowl.

The Mimbres were a small clan who inhabited the desert valleys of what is today southwestern New Mexico from 1000 to 1150 A.D. This ceramic bowl has got double sheep motif and it was made by the Mimbres culture of New Mexico A.D. 1100. This bowl was featured on a US postage stamp issued on August 21, 2004.

BREAKFAST PORRIDGE

Last week Ana Stockermans gave us some porridge recipe to cook together in our Early Years class. She suggested an excellent porridge with milk, apples and oats. Look at them ready to start with the recipe. Sweet! Thanks Ana!

ART - Aboriginal Art

This term we are going to learn about Artists and Art.

We will have a look to different Artists from English-Speaking Countries such as North America, Canada, Australia, Ireland and U.K.

Have you ever heard about Aborigines? They were the first human inhabitants of the Australian continent and its nearby islands and they have got an interesting Aboriginal culture and heritage including indigenous art. Aboriginals left their handprints on the walls of caves.

So we will make an aboriginal style hand print.
We will practice the Aboriginal Dot Art.
And we will make an activity based on Australian Aboriginal X-ray style of painting.

We will use reds, browns, oranges, yellows and occasionally Green.

Come on! Let´s get to work!

Australians have a national holiday every January 26th to remember their origins.

On January 26, 1788, a fleet of ships landed at what is now Sydney, Australia. These ships were under the command of Captain Arthur Phillip .

To celebrate this day we are going to read about Australia and complete the activities I have prepared for you.

Let me give my regards to Charo. She is in Australia at the moment. Hi Charo! We remember you and be sure we are going to learn a lot about the place where you are living now. Have a nice time and good luck!

The first term is over and Christmas is here. We have had a really busy time decorating the school, learning Christmas Carols and getting ready for the Christmas Festival. We have performed a play about Christmas: " A CHRISTMAS PLAY ". We studied hard but, at last, it was a success.
