According to this article: http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/16115967/, the Wii sold 600,000 consoles in the first 8 days after launch. At first, we were not impressed. But then our science department decided to work out the numbers to see where the Wii will stand over time. This is when our jaws dropped.

Normally when reading console sales projections, one realizes they are just guesses. Unless you have a graph to back you up. Which we do.

By December of 2012, there will have been 139,800,000 Wiis sold. Not impressed yet? That is in the state of Pennsylvania alone. Worldwide, the sales will be about 985,564,462,000,165 consoles. Of course these are not counting black market sales.

Josephhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13088030077605773370noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-22761548.post-1153937693698632282006-07-26T11:13:00.000-07:002006-07-26T11:14:53.720-07:00New PS2 Greatest Hits LineupI love greatest hits games. It is pretty much how I get to play all of the games I play. Now finally SOCOM 3 is coming to greatest hits. Now I just have to get my PS2 back that my ex-girlfriend stole from me.
If you're one of those people who are able to keep the excitement of new releases at bay and wait until the price goes down, the PS2 has some treats lined up for you. Circuit City has leaked a display that tells us what the next round of Greatest Hits games are, and while many of them are obvious, the inclusion of one of the titles has me excited.

The games are Jack X: Combat Racing, SOCOM 3, Sly 3, Ratchet Deadlocked, and Shadow of the Colossus. All of these games are good, and well worth your US$20. I won't begrudge anyone running out to buy any of them. The main thing I wanted to point out was that now you have absolutely no excuse to not have Shadow of the Colossus in your collection. My 2005 Game of the Year is one of the most intriguing games to be released on the PS2, and for US$20 you owe it to yourself to at least try it. Even better? Before all the stores receive their copies with the red ribbon on the top you can get the original printing for US$20. I love that.
Read More at arstechnica.com

Josephhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13088030077605773370noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-22761548.post-1152735476652101032006-07-12T13:15:00.000-07:002006-07-12T13:17:56.666-07:00Scarface - The World is Ours for PS2It seems like everyone loves Scarface. Who doesn't want to be Tony Montana? Especially lately I see a lot more people wearing Scarface clothing and things. Well now we might have a wicked game to go along with our Scarface tshirt.
Highly acclaimed screenwriter, David McKenna, has written an original event-driven storyline for the interactive game that will lead the player through a sordid underworld. The Scarface video game will create a gameplay environment that authentically recreates the historical time period of the film, touching on politics, news items and events of the day. Players will travel through the steamy, often violent streets of Miami, the irie islands of the Florida Keys, the Bahamas and various other locales and will interact with a world full of seedy and dangerous characters to procure information, negotiate business deals, smuggle contraband and avoid rivals and DEA on a mission to rebuild their fallen empire.
Read More at worthplaying.com

Josephhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13088030077605773370noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-22761548.post-1150659204959128402006-06-18T12:31:00.000-07:002006-06-18T12:33:24.970-07:00Xenosaga Episode III: Also Sprach ZarathustraXenosaga Episode III: Also Sprach Zarathustra comes to the PS2. The same day the original trilogy of Star Wars will be released on DVD. My review of this news: Good.
"Over the years, a truly countless number of fans have told us that they would love to see and own the original version that they remember experiencing in theaters," said Jim Ward, President of LucasArts and Senior Vice President of Lucasfilm Ltd. "We returned to the Lucasfilm Archives to search exhaustively for source material that could be presented on DVD. This is something that we're very excited to be able to give to fans in response to their continuing enthusiasm for Star Wars. Topping it off with a new interactive adventure makes September 12 a red-letter day for Star Wars fans."

That's also the day fans will be able to experience the LEGO Star Wars II: The Original Trilogy video game, the action-packed sequel -- filled with tongue-in-cheek humor -- to one of the best selling video games of 2005. Maybe. What is with all of these shows on tv that have people completely addicted. 24, Lost, Prison Break.... The list goes on and on. I guess it just naturally to make games out of some of these. 24: The Game makes sense. Prison Break: The Game would make sense. But Lost: The Game? Not so sure.
EGM's April 2006 issue sports a short entry under its monthly Rumor Mill section telling readers to expect a Lost video game this fall for unspecified consoles.

The Q also claims that the playable adaptation will "even feature an online multiplayer mode called something like 'Passengers versus The Others.'" Predicting possible genres is sketchy at this point, but one could imagine modes such as Capture the Hatch, Pregnant Woman Rescue, and Team Freak-out popping up like a season or two's stranded passenger hallucinations. Now Square Enix is going continue the series.
It has been a year since the events of "Kingdom Hearts." More than 11 years and two more consoles later, the electronics giant has pulled the plug on its first console, ceasing all production of PS units. The latest issue of Famitsu contains first details on Atelier Iris: Grand Fantasm. Gust will bring this latest branch of the "Iris" sub series to the Japanese PS2 on 6/29.

In this eighth entry in the Atelier series, you play as Edge Vanhite, an adventurer who's part of a group called Mystruse. Mystruse has made a business of exploring other worlds, and together with your friend Iris Fortner (different from the Iris of Eternal Mana), you spend your days accepting such quests from the adventurer's guild. One day, you gain a hint on how to find a special set of magic books. It is said that the person who gathers these books will have his wishes granted. Edge and Iris aim to collect all the books, although they find a bit of competition from rival adventurers.
Read more at ign.com

Josephhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13088030077605773370noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-22761548.post-1142730334362888562006-03-18T16:51:00.000-08:002006-03-18T17:05:34.373-08:00Burnout: Revenge Promoting Spam?Recently you might have noticed that you are getting spammed more often on Xbox Live. This may be because of the new Xbox 360 Burnout: Revenge. Damn Burnout: Revenge Achievements. 2old2play discusses this issue:
Burnout Revenge: SPAM hits Xbox Live?
Written on Friday, March 17 @ 12:55:11 EST by codemonkey

Last week Burnout: Revenge hit the store shelves. This week many of us are finding our Xbox Live! inbox full of messages asking us to go look at some Burnout: Revenge racing clips. Do we have our first official Xbox 360 SPAM?!

There are two specific Xbox 360 achievements that involve the Xbox Live! mail system:

Check It Out!

Got an awesome clip? Especially hockey. I have been playing EA's NHL series since 1992. Check out this review of NHL 2006:
NHL games have been big on the PS2 scene from the beginning, increasing in popularity every year. 2K Sports have got it right with their NHL series, the last two games boasting a full ESPN license. Their latest instalment, NHL 2K6, has failed to retain the license, and ESPN has opted for EA this time around. However, the most important element of an NHL game is the game-play, and on that front, this is best in its class.

The soundtrack in a game is vital and this happens to be one of the finest. Modern rock songs accompanying a hardcore hockey simulator are perfect and really compliment the game. Well that’s the mood set, let’s play hockey…

And this is exactly what 2K6 does, and with some style. The game-play is brilliant! Fast paced matches meet the high tempo realism of the game and stroking the puck around the rink is effortless. The controls are well designed and can be picked up in an instant. Powerful shots and first timers can be fired in from all angles in search of the next goal. Everything you see being done by the professionals on TV can be achieved in this game and it is incredibly realistic.
Read more at contactmusic.com

Josephhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13088030077605773370noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-22761548.post-1142726354455695272006-03-18T15:57:00.000-08:002006-03-18T15:59:14.456-08:00Final Fantasy XII Launches!I never beat Final Fantasy 10 but I got to the last fight with Sin. I never even played FFXI but I am excited about FFXII. And now it has launched.
After a delay of almost three years, "Final Fantasy 12," the latest in an enormously successful series of video games, finally hit stores across Japan on Thursday morning.

Square Enix Co., producers of the series of role-playing games that has already sold more than 65 million copies around the world, has shipped 2 million units of "Final Fantasy 12" for Sony Play Station 2 (PS2).

"This is a pretty meaty game," Square Enix President Yoichi Wada said at a special event to mark the launch in Tokyo's Shibuya-ku. "I think this will become a work that symbolizes PS2."

Other Final Fantasy producers turned up for the event, which was attended by about 150 people, many of who had camped overnight in order to be able to attend.

"This is an epic," Akitoshi Kawazu, the game's overall developer, said.
Read more at mdn.mainichi-msn.co.jp

Josephhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13088030077605773370noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-22761548.post-1142725950513091492006-03-18T15:43:00.000-08:002006-03-18T15:52:30.523-08:00PS2 TOCA 3 by CodemastersToCA 3 just came out on February 21st. Check out this review posted on contactmusic.com:
For 8 long years the TOCA series has kept racing fans engrossed with its portrayal of the world of motor sports. TOCA 3 attempts to cater for the hard core driving sim gamer and the arcade adrenalin junkie all in one with a whirlwind tour of multiple motor sport disciplines.

Does TOCA 3 take the chequered flag or is it stuck in the pit lane?? Gentlemen, start your engines……

Story

You are mentored through the game by your pit guy who gives you the insight into driving lines, each new discipline and the championships that you enter, while story is not really key to this type of game the cut scenes work well an are chock full of helpful hints that are well worth taking on board. This really adds to the presentation of the game and makes you realise that this is a high quality game.
Read more at contactmusic.com

Josephhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13088030077605773370noreply@blogger.com0
