I can't quite visualize the flowers in that park though, but I will be sure to really look for them next summer.

The park is so small and backs up to a very busy 10 lane highway; the infamous Garden State Parkway, and it really isn't big enough to support that much wildlife so I'm thinking they may maintain the multiflora for the very reason it is a problem elsewhere. You can walk the perimeter of the park at a brisk pace in under 5 minutes.

When I was growing up in that area I never saw anything more exotic than a duck, recently I have seen buck's with big racks, fox, swans, herons, turkeys, hawks, and numerous other species. Rumor has it there was an alligator in the pond last year and that a bear passed through. The bear was found one town over so It is quite possible that it happened. It is really surprising that there is so much wildlife there because it is such a small park.Lauriehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13207597907269653552noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-22699077.post-41258902866726714082007-12-16T08:08:00.000-05:002007-12-16T08:08:00.000-05:00Beautifully captured, Laurie! It was intro'd to North America in the late 1800s as root stock for ornamental roses and then promoted in the 1930s by the US Soil Conservation Service as a "living fence" to confine livestock.

Although the flowers and scent are magnficent in the summer (I'm sure you've encountered the sweet fragrance and seen the white flowers cascading from hillsides in June), it displaces native vegetation and restricts wildlife movement due its thickets of thorny, arching stems - sometimes 15 feet high!

It's all over my property and while I love having some of it around for the scent in June and for the bird food in winter, I have to pull it out regularly or it would take over.

You asked. :)

Nice shot!Kathleen Connallynoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-22699077.post-16944194721315732552007-12-16T05:38:00.000-05:002007-12-16T05:38:00.000-05:00nice usage of the shallow dof and great combinatio...nice usage of the shallow dof and great combination of the red and gray tintshttp://blog.bitprocessor.benoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-22699077.post-86249778347939975502007-12-16T02:36:00.000-05:002007-12-16T02:36:00.000-05:00wow great shot, cant help with the berry's though....wow great shot, cant help with the berry's though.. never experience an ice storm only seen pics, looks very dramatic..

hope all is well
T
:o)Tonyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06739224911388015289noreply@blogger.com
