I do use polarizers. It also helps to have the sun in the right place. In this shot it was low in the sky and to my left. It was wonderful, warm, late afternoon, fall light. I wasn't centered on the bridge which gives the illusion of it not being straight. It was a conscious decision I made since I really wanted the center shadow line to go through the center of the shot and If I changed the perspective to get the top rails even in the shot it would have taken the center shadow and moved it off center.
