So the Holidays are officially over and it's time to welcome in another year. 2009 is here and with it i hope comes success in many forms.

I am presently back in the UK where I've been working hard under the umbrella of Griffiths Racing Management to build a professional World Cup Team program with looks to match.

2009 will be the 3rd year that Griffiths Racing has put together a full UCI World Cup Team. I'm looking forward to the end result and the Team Launch in the not too distant future. We will be working with many existing sponsors and some new ones too. Keep checking back for more information.

Mont Ste Anne World Cup

The weather has been HORRIBLE here in Quebec! The tracks were soaked... and riders were coming down the hill covered in sloppy wet mud! But it turned out to be a great weekend for Fionn! Double Podium finish again - 5th in the DH and 3rd in the 4X! Which now puts her 5th overall in BOTH events! Congrats to Fionn on another successful weekend.

Off to Bromont now for the 5th World Cup next weekend.....

VPS Fest

Just a quick one to let everyone know that Fionn WILL be attending the Norco VPS Fest this weekend at Blue Mountain in Ontario, Canada. This will be Fionn's first VPS Fest, an event created by Norco for Norco owners to come out and enjoy a weekend of riding with Factory Team members and have access to Factory Team technical support!! Andorra - The course terrain was a mix of everything & with the weather so changeable it kept us all wondering what tyres to run to get the best grip.
Everything from thick fog & rain to bright sun caused the course to slip & slide with huge ruts just waiting to take you out if you lost concentration even for a split second.

My results were good enough to keep me top three for 4x and top six for DH
4X - 3rd
DH - 6th
My mechanic Paul did a brilliant job all weekend & I was pleased my brother Justin has eventually come to see me race.

We're just about to start out on the long drive to Fort William, due to arrive there on Wednesday. I've been asked to get involved with something for the young mountain bikers in Corpach so I'm looking forward to meeting them.

finally... INTERNET again! We have been busy working our way all over Europe and have had very limited internet access so we apologize for the delay in updates. Last week we spent driving down through Europe to the World Championship Trial Event in Val Di Sole, Italy. The track was sweet, Fionn loved it. Just put in loads of runs and spent some time learning the track.

We are now in Maribor, Slovenia grabbing a few days of rest before the first World Cup this coming weekend. Time to put all the off-season training to the test!

The weather is great so far, although a bit cold for Fionn after being in the Sacramento area for the past 6 weeks ;) We are just putting the finishing touches on the team prep and then everything kicks off tomorrow.....

Fontana Results

4X racing last night was great. Fionn raced her XC bike since she does not yet have her Norco 4XXXX. She put those front chain rings to good use and pedaled her way to 2nd place behind Melissa Buhl and in front of Joanna Petterson.

DH was going well. Qualifying seeded Fee 2nd fastest and hungry to take Melissa out of that top spot. Come race time, the top section was fast and smooth, but a few errors saw Fee over the bars and off course. An injury free crash and smooth recovery kept her inside the top 5, just over 12 seconds behind Melissa Buhl's 2nd victory of the event. Top 5 ladies were:

Update from Fontana

Racing is underway at the first US National Event in Fontana, CA. Qualifying in the 4X tonight saw Melissa Buhl taking the top spot, with Fionn a close 2nd and Joanna Petterson wrapping up 3rd. 4X racing takes place tomorrow night at 5pm. It should be a heated battle at the first official race of the season.

DH racing takes place Sunday with qualifying at 9:45 and official racing starting at 12:15! Good luck to Fee at her first big race of the year!

Start of Season!

The race season has officially started! Fionn blasted her way to her first '08 win at a local race with some friends in California. Fionn has been training hard the past few months to prep for the coming world cup series and now she's back on her bike and looking faster than ever. Fionn's winning time was 11 seconds faster than 2nd place rider Joanna Petterson and was less than 15 seconds off the winning elite men's time!

Fionn is on her way now to the first US National race of the year to hopefully grab another podium finish before heading into the official international race season which kicks off at Sea Otter April 17-20. Thanks to Tom Winsemius for the photo.

Pitt River Middle School Visit

Earlier this month Fionn took some time out of her busy schedule to visit a class at the Pitt River Middle School here in Greater Vancouver. Fionn was invited to the school by fan and fellow rider Mr. Lambert who was eager to have Fionn speak on topics such as goal setting and lifestyle as a professional athlete. In the previous years teammate Ryan Leech had visited the school and left a lasting impression (as well as tough shoes to fill).

The students LOVED it! Question upon question were thrown at Fee until eventually someone asked if they could touch the Norco Six that Fionn brought in to show the students. From that point it was hands-on with students enjoying the opportunity to handle Fionn's bike, THE helmet, Zeal Goggles as well as grab themselves a handful of Norco stickers to have signed by Fionn herself.

A few students even won themselves signed Norco T-shirts and race jerseys! All in all the day was a success with Fionn leaving behind a DVD supplied by Ride Guide and Norco for the class to watch in the coming days.

Thanks again to Mr. Lambert for all his effort in making this event a huge success!

Rippin it up in Vancouver

Perfectly sunny day out rippin it up around Vancouver. Showing a friend of ours the city the best way possible - by bike! Kind of started to feel bad by the end. We were loving the adventure so much we didn't realize we had been riding for 2.5 hours! Pam (hasn't ridden a bike in quite a few years) was dying by the end. Thanks to the skytrain for getting us home safely!

Itchy Feet

well.. once again it looks like I am doing some traveling. Back to Vancouver tomorrow. I am super stoked. I was getting itchy feet and I am excited to be heading back to Canada. My first full day there I am back to the Norco Factory to check out my new Team DH frame and do some quick interviews, etc. It will be great to see all the guys again and start riding on the North Shore. Sweet. off to get some rest before leaving at 6am to start 18 hours of travel! ahhh.....

Hometown: Aylesbury (Buckinghamshire)

Years as a mech: Almost 7 now

Do you Ride: Yes. I do a bit of XC every now and again but I have just bought myself a new 4X hardtail so I might try a 4X race this year. DH is my favourite! Just can't beat going flat out down a run and getting loose in the turns.

Why a mech... what do you love about it: Simple really - I like fixing things and I like bikes so they go together pretty well.

Who got you into it: Kind of my brother. He was into the mountain bike scene back in 1997 but never carried it on and I found one of his old Mountain bike magazines and just thought i looked fun and its kind of stuck since then.

Hobbies: Riding of course. Any kind: DH, XC, 4X and even road on the odd occasion. Tae Kwon Do, anything outdoors to be honest, and I want to have a go at base jumping and snow boarding this year.
