The Next Project....

On Monday I began my next project...it's a complete tear down and rebuild of a once beautiful home in the once named East Riverside/Kinghurst area of what is now part of Rothesay. The house was destroyed in a fire a few months ago and now it's finally ready to go. It should be an interesting build.

It's been a busy winter and spring for me. Last November I started our house and after a very cold winter I finally finished about 2 months ago. Since then I've been busy on a few small projects and on the final details of this house. Now what?... Well, I'm not sure....There are a few options that I am considering, I may start another house and not do any smaller jobs or I may do the opposite...time will tell... For now, I'm going to keep working and maybe in a few weeks I'll add some pictures of the house.

Newmat Install...Kennebecais Park

I recently installed a Newmat Stretch Ceiling in a bathroom in a huge home overlooking the water. The house is Grand! In the future I will try and post some photos of the home, but for now you're have to contend with the bathroom...which in addition to the ceiling, will have all the walls covered in mirrored glass tiles...

MAC Cosmetics: Montreal-Newmat Install

Two weeks ago, I traveled to beautiful, Montreal, Quebec to help install a Newmat back lite system for a new MAC Cosmetics store. Simple install, no problems, except for the early morning traffic of Montreal...wow! During that same trip, I did a service call for a private residence. The client had some water issues in the past and some debris had fallen into his ceiling. Once again, very simple job. Unhook the membrane, clean out the trash, and hook the membrane back up.

The Waiting Game

As I wait to get a start on my next house, I'm left without much to do. I'm waiting for the permits, the guys who does the digging, the concrete guy, etc...That's the downside of a booming housing Industry, there aren't enough trades, workers to get all the work done (So why am I sitting here without anything to do? Good question...) I'm am pricing a few jobs here and there. One being a bathroom reno, which should be fun if it ever gets going. So while I wait, I rest...and blog....Too bad blogging wouldn't pay the bills.....I did get a call last week from someone looking to have some concrete counter built for his kitchen...which would have been great, except the place we are renting is not setup for that type of work. Too bad.......... So I wait...

Big Boat Houses, Nice Lots And Over Doing It...

A few weeks ago, I was out with my family on my sisters boat, and I took some pictures of some nice waterfront homes in the area. The first one is actually a boat house. It belongs to the one of the Irving boys ,( just google Irving, New Brunswick, and you will get a picture of who they are) I think I could live in that "Boat House"

The second picture is the start of a house that is in a beautiful spot on the river. You can't really tell from the pictures but it sits on a point of land and you can see up and down the river. I can't wait to see the finish house.

The last picture is actually a house, at first I thought it was a hotel or something but then realized it couldn't be not where it's at. You can get an idea how bit it is just from looking at the well drilling rig in front of it....big house, and I'm not sure, but just a wee bit of a huge ego, and definitely over- compensating for something. and despite what some have said, no, if I had the money I wouldn't build something like that on that piece of land...

Busy Summer; Busier Fall

Well, it's been a very busy summer. Around the time of my last blog post, we sold our house and have we had to be out by the middle of August. We had a hard time finding a place to live as there's not a lot of people that will rent to people that have two kids, two cats and a dog, but we finally found a place. At the same time we were also looking for land to build our next home, which was not fun. So we have a place to stay until I'm able to build us another house. So I'll try and keep posting but will probably be too busy to even sit down.....One thing about this house we are in, it may be old, but it has a beautiful view...

Blogging sucks...there I said it...whew..I feel much better....Now I can get on to my blog. It's been a busy last few weeks, lots of things that needed to be done weeks before, and the loose ends are starting to be tied up, so I have more time to do more work....nasty circle of the working world...We have been tying up loose ends on our house to get it ready to sell. For now it's on Kijiji.

"Grand Designs" Hollywood House....

Friends of ours, Shane and Alli Magee, who are from the UK, told me about a show over there called "Grand Designs" It's a show all about architecture and designs from different houses in the UK and other parts of the world. Today I watched a video that featured a house in the Hollywood Hills that is a pretty cool house. I love the bedroom!! I've tried to figure it out but it's not as easy as this...so I'll be keeping this for awhile until I figure out how it works.

Prefab And A Very Long Load

Yesterday I was roofing one of the houses I framed and the lot across the street a prefab house was being placed. I've never seen this done before and really was amazed at the size of the crane and the amount of people that where there. It was a very busy street. The last picture I really had to put in because it shows how not smart (didn't really want to say dumb, because I've meet this guy and he seems smart) people can be. I guess he had to do what he had to do to get the drain pipe there. He just needs a bigger truck.

I while back I said I was going to show the houses that I was hired to frame and It's been almost 6 months and I thought maybe I would start showing some pics. Here is the first one...It's a 1200 sq/ft bungalow with a walk out basement that was partially finished. Quite a bit of room in this house that looks small from the road.

The One Week Job For A Year Guy

I came across this site a few weeks ago and am very intrigued by this guy. His name is Sean Aiken and for the last 46 weeks he has been doing a different job every week! And best of all he donates his earnings to charity. On his list of jobs he wants to do, one if the jobs is construction worker...hmmmmm? I'm very tempted to see if he would be willing to come to New Brunswick and help me build some houses. Anyways, I'm still thinking about it...and while I am thinking about it, check out his site and hire him! and let me know if you do!
