I am a Canadian in this strange land also. And wishing I could vote today - I think if you are the parent of American children, you should be given a vote.
Happy writing!Lorrainehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09911422213767560639noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-22539414.post-1162923691664843952006-11-07T10:21:00.000-08:002006-11-07T10:21:00.000-08:00I see your point and yes to have him rot in jail w...I see your point and yes to have him rot in jail would be a good thing .......however I agree with Lesley.
also I think that his followers need to know that his actions have a penalty and they are not accepted by the people of his country.harmurphshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09071004212392498982noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-22539414.post-1162915418430380772006-11-07T08:03:00.000-08:002006-11-07T08:03:00.000-08:00I can see your point and appreciate your opinion. ...I can see your point and appreciate your opinion. However, I do think that one point needs to be admitted for consideration. You said, "...he hurt and killed a lot of people, but if he is killed for it, doesn't that make the people who are judging him no worse than him?"

Now, I'm no fan of the death penalty, but I don't think you can equate Saddam's actions to those of his convictors, and here's why: Saddam's crime is the torture and murder of innocent people mainly for no other reason than to assert his own authority. His convictors have found him guilty, and their actions represent that finding. They are not killing an innocent man, they are punishing a felon for a crime.

So no, I don't think that puts them on Saddam's level.

And the main problem I see in having him sit in prison the rest of his life is that the country still contains his followers--and being such a volatile place, there's no guarantee that he won't be forcibly restored. And that would be disastrous.

Still, I respect your opinion and appreciate your reasoning.

Thanks for writing.Lesleyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05265138957073424837noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-22539414.post-1162915044902668412006-11-07T07:57:00.000-08:002006-11-07T07:57:00.000-08:00No blasting, just agreement.
