Next up: how to find more hours in a day.<br /><div style="text-align: center;">___<br /></div><br />Rock n Roll News: the band, <a href="http://www.fenderforum.com/guestbook.html?user_name=RAC-Strat" target="_blank">Rob</a>, <a href="http://www.fenderforum.com/guestbook.html?user_name=Baloo" target="_blank">Jeff</a>, Drew & <a href="http://robertnasir.com/trebor" target="_blank">I</a>, is now official, having played at a party out in Ann Arbor ... so the band officially has a name ... Vintage 309. <a href="http://vintage309.com" target="_blank">And a website.</a> Very garage-ish classic rock radio style. So far. Too fun.<br /><div style="text-align: center;">___<br /></div><br />After building a new computer for Diana, I found out that the game World of Warcraft can be really tough to get running in a stable fashion. No, I'm not a gamer. But we were shopping at CompUSA, and Di' really wanted this game - but there was no way her old PC would run it effectively. (Remember Robert's rule for buying a new computer: <span style="font-weight: bold;">any</span> $500 PC or laptop will serve you well - unless you're editing video, or you are a gamer.) Hours of tweaks and tests, different video cards, sound cards, RAM, even NIC's ... still getting lockups or intermittant reboots. So I gave up (and upgraded a different PC for her that I already had). Diana is now pleased.<br /><div style="text-align: center;">___<br /></div><br />In professional news ...<br /><br /><a href="http://www.robertnasir.com/weblog/uploaded_images/firstcity-729390.jpg" target="_blank"><img style="margin: 0px 10px 10px 0px; float: left;" alt="" src="http://www.robertnasir.com/weblog/uploaded_images/firstcity-794564.jpg" border="0" /></a>...last week, I travelled, for the first time, to <a href="http://www.skyscraperpicture.com/houston.htm" target="_blank">Houston</a>, Texas, for cross-training with Waste Management's excellent corporate technical folks. Due to too much topical and social conversation, our discussion of <a href="http://www.aynrand.org/site/PageServer?pagename=objectivism_nonfiction" target="_blank">Introduction to Objectivist Epistemology</a> was derailed again last time, so we shall have to go at it with more determination to wrap up the book!<br /><br />In addition, several EGO'ists paid a visit to the <a href="http://redfordtheatre.com/" target="_blank">Redford Theatre</a> to see Hitchcock's <a href="http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0053125/" target="_blank">North By Northwest</a> starring Cary Grant. An outstanding movie - on the outside chance you haven't seen it, be sure to put it on your shortlist. Strangely, the Barton theater organ overture seemed overlong ... and we didn't win the fifty-fifty raffle again (Eric's the only one to win so far, in our years of Redford Theatre patronage).<br /><br /><a href="http://amynasir.com/bunny" target="_blank"><img style="FLOAT: left; MARGIN: 0px 10px 10px 0px; CURSOR: hand" alt="" src="http://www.robertnasir.com/weblog/uploaded_images/dahly-724298.jpg" border="0" />Dahly</a> remains ever sweet. 'Cept she still seems determined to dig a warren in our loveseat. I'm reminded of the story <em>(for which I don't recall the source, perhaps a <a href="http://www.peikoff.com/" target="_blank">Leonard Peikoff</a> lecture ... I know <a href="http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/1930754671?v=glance" target="_blank">Barbed Brandon</a> mentioned it too, but hope it's true anyway)</em>, of how Ayn Rand wouldn't stand for de-clawing her cats, despite the damage to her furniture - in her heirarchy of values, happy cats were way above nice furniture. I agree (though of course it's best to have both a <a href="http://www.rabbit.org/" target="_blank">happy bunny</a> and nice furniture, if you can).<div class="blogger-post-footer"><img width='1' height='1' src='https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/tracker/22458312-115565245551196678?l=www.RobertNasir.com%2Fweblog%2Findex.htm'/></div>Robert Nasirhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12930902155985867606noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-22458312.post-1155649789514928222006-08-15T06:21:00.000-07:002006-08-15T07:36:32.046-07:00August Updates #2 - Ann Arbor Art Fair<a href="http://www.robertnasir.com/weblog/uploaded_images/annarborart1-775750.jpg" target="_blank"><img style="FLOAT: left; MARGIN: 0px 10px 10px 0px; CURSOR: hand" alt="" src="http://www.robertnasir.com/weblog/uploaded_images/annarborart1-772868.jpg" border="0" /></a> The annual trip to the <a href="http://www.artfair.org/" target="_blank">Ann Arbor Art Fair</a> was fun! A zillion booths, some good art (though way-too-high crafts-to-art ratio, as always) and a mix of odd things too. Way too many people this year! We also stopped in some of the main street shops, and ice cream at the <a href="http://www.sbchocolate.com/" target="_blank">South Bend Chocolate Company</a>, built into an old house on Main Street, is always a treat. We also bought an adorable bunny pic - I'll have to take a snapshot and post it later.<br /><br /><a href="http://www.robertnasir.com/weblog/uploaded_images/disurbing-761470.jpg" target="_blank"><img style="FLOAT: right; MARGIN: 0px 0px 10px 10px; CURSOR: hand" alt="" src="http://www.robertnasir.com/weblog/uploaded_images/disurbing-759019.jpg" border="0" /></a>Diana and Amy and I took advantage of the opportunity to dine (twice, since we went both Friday night and Saturday afternoon) at the wonderful <a href="http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&lr=&safe=off&q=seva+restaurant+ann+arbor" target="_blank">Seva Restaurant</a>. If you've never been there, you should do something about that a.s.a.p.<br /><br />We also stopped by <a href="http://www.wizzywig.com/" target="_blank">Wizzywig</a>, where we saw many strange things (not unusual, though one poster stood out - click, as always, for a larger image in a new window).<br /><br /><a href="http://www.robertnasir.com/weblog/uploaded_images/annarborart2-751516.jpg" target="_blank"><img style="FLOAT: left; MARGIN: 0px 10px 10px 0px; CURSOR: hand" alt="" src="http://www.robertnasir.com/weblog/uploaded_images/annarborart2-748950.jpg" border="0" /></a>Our Art Fair experience was not without incident ... Amy was injured when a huge hole opened up suddenly in the pavement of the sidewalk near the parking structure, and swallowed her whole ... I won't post the <a href="http://www.robertnasir.com/images/annarborart3.jpg" target="_blank">gruesome photographs</a>, you'll just have to imagine the carnage yourself. Paramedics just happened to be on the scene fixing up someone else (true!), and when they finished handling the emergency, patched Amy up well. Her knee & leg & arm took a good week to heal, but true to her gracious nature, she did NOT sue the city for the millions in damages to which she was entitled.<div class="blogger-post-footer"><img width='1' height='1' src='https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/tracker/22458312-115564978951492822?l=www.RobertNasir.com%2Fweblog%2Findex.htm'/></div>Robert Nasirhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12930902155985867606noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-22458312.post-1155647751792365662006-08-15T06:05:00.000-07:002006-08-15T06:20:33.873-07:00August Updates #1 - Diana's Graduation Continues!<a href="http://www.RobertNasir.com/weblog/uploaded_images/dianagraduation2-708032.jpg" target="_blank"><img style="FLOAT: right; MARGIN: 0px 0px 10px 10px; CURSOR: hand" alt="" src="http://www.RobertNasir.com/weblog/uploaded_images/dianagraduation2-704132.jpg" border="0" /></a><br />Wow - no significant updates since early July ... well, here we go!<br /><br />Diana's graduation from high school continued, with a graduation party held at her sister's place (which I still think of as Camp Heinrich, since Grandma Heinrich is still there!).<br /><span style="color:#cccccc;">.</span><br /><br /><a href="http://www.robertnasir.com/weblog/uploaded_images/dianagraduation-794626.jpg" target="_blank"><img style="FLOAT: left; MARGIN: 0px 10px 10px 0px; CURSOR: hand" alt="" src="http://www.robertnasir.com/weblog/uploaded_images/dianagraduation-792877.jpg" border="0" /></a>Diana's<br />graduation<br />photograph,<br />is,<br />I think,<br />particularly<br />lovely.<br /><span style="color:#ffffff;">.<br />.</span><br /><span style="color:#ffffff;">.</span><br /><span style="color:#ffffff;">.</span><br /><span style="color:#ffffff;">.</span><br /><span style="color:#ffffff;">.</span><br /><span style="color:#ffffff;">.</span><br /><span style="color:#ffffff;">.</span><br /><span style="color:#ffffff;">.</span><br /><span style="color:#ffffff;">.</span><br /><span style="color:#ffffff;">.</span><br /><span style="color:#ffffff;">.</span><br /><em>Apropos of the event being commemorated, I had a cake custom-made ... very last-minute ... by a baker who did a beautiful job on the flowers and such, but probably hadn't graduated (Contgratuldiox?) herself. Our tour guide was very knowledgeable (and strict - Bill was the object of most of his admonitions - "Please stay off the carpet!")<br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://www.robertnasir.com/weblog/uploaded_images/02_eeford-723157.jpg" target="_blank"><img style="FLOAT: right; MARGIN: 0pt 0pt 10px 10px; CURSOR: pointer" alt="" src="http://www.robertnasir.com/weblog/uploaded_images/02_eeford-718890.jpg" border="0" /></a>Unfortunately, photography within the buildings was verboten, but outdoors, it was allowed, for which I was grateful. The lakeshore property is beautiful, and the grounds are vast (a shuttle ran from the portcullis and parking garage to the house). The swimming pool was picturesque, draining into rock sculptures and natural pool areas, the squash court building made me want to play, the play house was cute (a 500 sq. foot home built to 1/2-3/4 scale for Josephine as a seventh birthday present).<br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://www.robertnasir.com/weblog/uploaded_images/03_eeford-792542.jpg" target="_blank"><img style="FLOAT: left; MARGIN: 0pt 10px 10px 0pt; CURSOR: pointer" alt="" src="http://www.robertnasir.com/weblog/uploaded_images/03_eeford-786539.jpg" border="0" /></a>And being there with the EGOist's was a treat. Time permitting, I'll need to put a photo page up on the EGO website.<br /><br />After the return to Peter's house, we were treated to cookout (fancy sausages and dogs on fresh baked rolls, beans, slaw and more!).<br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://www.robertnasir.com/weblog/uploaded_images/03a_eeford-758417.jpg" target="_blank"><img style="FLOAT: right; MARGIN: 0pt 0pt 10px 10px; CURSOR: pointer" alt="" src="http://www.robertnasir.com/weblog/uploaded_images/03a_eeford-751353.jpg" border="0" /></a>(Oh, don't let me forget to properly credit him: Richard brought the ice cream. OK, you had to be there to understand that one...)<br /><br />Peter's yard has the best rope-swing on his tree, as Amy, Carrie, Eric and I now know. (But watch yourself climbing that tree, Eric! Ouch!)<br /><br />The conversation was lively, perhaps more so than usual, with a new attendee who had relatively little experience with Objectivist philosophy (but plenty of questions!).<br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://www.robertnasir.com/weblog/uploaded_images/04a_eeford-726214.jpg" target="_blank"><img style="FLOAT: left; MARGIN: 0pt 10px 10px 0pt; CURSOR: pointer" alt="" src="http://www.robertnasir.com/weblog/uploaded_images/04a_eeford-723938.jpg" border="0" /></a>Fireworks were planned (pyrotechnics, not intellectual - we always have intellectual fireworks!) but beforehand, our gracious host treated us to a piano recital, as he has had acoustic treatments installed in his piano room and was determined (heh heh) to share his living room's newfound audio brilliance with us.<br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://www.robertnasir.com/weblog/uploaded_images/05_eeford-700633.jpg" target="_blank"><img style="FLOAT: right; MARGIN: 0pt 0pt 10px 10px; CURSOR: pointer" alt="" src="http://www.robertnasir.com/weblog/uploaded_images/05_eeford-799198.jpg" border="0" /></a>He played a couple piano pieces, then paused so those who were leaving to see the local municipal fireworks display could leave - but no one did. Peter continued with several additional pieces, two of which were dedications, one to Eric, the other to Amy.<br /><br />(Peter's piano is a wonderful thing. Also in attendence was head honcho Andrew from The University Of Michigan <a href="http://www.umso.org/" target="_blank">Students of Objectivism</a>, and we met some folks we've never met before, including Chris and Carrie!<br /><br /><a href="http://www.robertnasir.com/weblog/uploaded_images/arievent03-709484.jpg" target="_blank"><img style="FLOAT: left; MARGIN: 0px 10px 10px 0px; CURSOR: hand" alt="" src="http://www.robertnasir.com/weblog/uploaded_images/arievent03-707452.jpg" border="0" /></a>Afterward, Amy and I, and <a href="http://www.geocities.com/cathcacr/" target="_blank">Chris</a>, Carrie, Andrew and Steve went out in search of a restaurant (it took several tries to find one that was open) and stayed out too late for a school night. Word went out quick over the super-secret and efficient EGO communication channels.<br /><br />As karaoke goes, this was a good one!<br /><br />Eric ordered salads & pizza for all, and Amy and I brought ingredients to make sangria (white zinfandel, brandy, ginger ale, and fresh citrus & other fruits) as well as the karaoke equipment.<br /><br />Unlike some karaoke events, everybody got up and sang at some point - hooray! The singing was the best ever, and the dancing - oh, my! It was so much fun, I don't know if we'll wait until the annual <a href="http://egoplace.com/pictures/halloween-2000.htm" target="_blank">EGO Halloween Karaoke Party</a> to do it again.<br /><br /><em>(Speaking of EGO hosts - thanks again to Eric, Dave and Peter, who've all been hosting EGO meetings and have all been very generous, inviting us all into their homes, and feeding us as well. (Who'd a' thought? Well, if you'd been at the EGO Surprise Impromptu June Karaoke Party last night, you'd'a seen some of it for yourself!)<br /><br /><a href="http://www.robertnasir.com/weblog/uploaded_images/geese00-788112.jpg" target="_blank"><img style="FLOAT: left; MARGIN: 0px 10px 10px 0px; CURSOR: hand" alt="" src="http://www.robertnasir.com/weblog/uploaded_images/geese00-785484.jpg" border="0" /></a>People just seem to be falling in love. You lovers out there, you know who you are.<br /><br />Nature's been busy making lovers, too. The gooses around my office are bringing up their kids. Funny, they were just little puffs of feathers in April!<br /><br /><a href="http://www.robertnasir.com/weblog/uploaded_images/geese01-724693.jpg" target="_blank"><img style="FLOAT: right; MARGIN: 0px 0px 10px 10px; CURSOR: hand" alt="" src="http://www.robertnasir.com/weblog/uploaded_images/geese01-722440.jpg" border="0" /></a>(Geese are properly referred to as gooses when they are especially cute.)<br /><br />There's also a very silly beaver who keeps waddling around there. Michigan can be a funny place.<br /><br /><a href="http://www.robertnasir.com/weblog/uploaded_images/dahly_cuteness_motivation-794443.jpg" target="_blank"><img style="FLOAT: left; MARGIN: 0px 10px 10px 0px; CURSOR: hand" alt="" src="http://www.robertnasir.com/weblog/uploaded_images/dahly_cuteness_motivation-787669.jpg" border="0" /></a>I haven't formulated an explanation for why geese, and ducks, and bunnies, and even beavers, make me happy. But they do.<br /><br /><a href="http://www.robertnasir.com/weblog/uploaded_images/bunnyfeet-717790.jpg" target="_blank"><img style="FLOAT: right; MARGIN: 0px 0px 10px 10px; CURSOR: hand" alt="" src="http://www.robertnasir.com/weblog/uploaded_images/bunnyfeet-716479.jpg" border="0" /></a>Dahly Bun is, as usual, sweetness - except that she's been a bit demanding lately, and it's got her biting (well, OK, nipping) when she wants attention. She was beautiful! Diana was gracious and charming as usual, and a good time was had by all.<br /><br /><a href="http://www.robertnasir.com/weblog/uploaded_images/dianagraduation-797479.jpg" target="_blank"><img style="FLOAT: left; MARGIN: 0px 10px 10px 0px; CURSOR: hand" alt="" src="http://www.robertnasir.com/weblog/uploaded_images/dianagraduation-795867.jpg" border="0" /></a>And her graduation was quite a ceremony - she looked so sharp in her cap & gown. Hope they don't kick me out of NoodleFood, as <a href="http://www.dianahsieh.com/index.html" target="_blank">Diana Hsieh</a>, and her <a href="http://www.dianahsieh.com/blog/index.html" target="_blank">weblog</a> ... er, blog ... rule!<br /><br />And if you know anything about the aforementioned Objectivist "schisms" and their causes and effects, you MUST read, first <a href="http://www.dianahsieh.com/blog/2006/05/ed-hudgins-does-stand-up-comedy.html" target="_blank">this post</a>, then Dismuke's <a href="http://www.dianahsieh.com/cgi-bin/blog/comments/view.pl?entry=114618862815628537#6" target="_blank">comments</a>, then my darling Amy's delightful <a href="http://www.dianahsieh.com/cgi-bin/blog/comments/view.pl?entry=114618862815628537#24" target="_blank">comments</a>!<br /><br />Unbelievable ... until I remember that she's the one who told <a href="http://andrewbernstein.net/" target="_blank">Dr. Bernstein</a> last year, on the drive home from the <a href="http://egoplace.com/pictures/miup2005" target="_blank">Michigan Upper Penninsula</a>, and in no uncertain terms, that we're g'damn f'ing right going to stop in Frankenmuth! Long story - you had to be there. Speaking of which, this year's <a href="http://egoplace.com" target="_blank">EGO</a> Camping Trip is already scheduled - <strong>be there</strong>, or be ... well ... elsewhere.<div class="blogger-post-footer"><img width='1' height='1' src='https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/tracker/22458312-114735761593033618?l=www.RobertNasir.com%2Fweblog%2Findex.htm'/></div>Robert Nasirhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12930902155985867606noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-22458312.post-1146759252050912612006-05-04T08:32:00.000-07:002006-05-19T14:55:46.333-07:00May is here already?<a href="http://www.RobertNasir.com/weblog/uploaded_images/ducks-768298.jpg" target="_blank"><img style="FLOAT: right; MARGIN: 0px 0px 10px 10px; CURSOR: hand" alt="" src="http://www.RobertNasir.com/weblog/uploaded_images/ducks-765864.jpg" border="0" /></a> Time continues to fly. No posts last week, as I was busy with work, the Steve Howe concert, my lawn (one of the many joys of home ownership), spending time with Diana, then jamming with Jeff, then out of town for two days of training at Waste Management regional HQ. Spring is here, and all of nature is coming alive ... and falling in love. Aren't these two sweet?<br /><br /><a href="http://www.robertnasir.com/weblog/uploaded_images/stevehowe-715651.jpg" target="_blank"><img style="FLOAT: left; MARGIN: 0px 10px 10px 0px; CURSOR: hand" alt="" src="http://www.robertnasir.com/weblog/uploaded_images/stevehowe-713478.jpg" border="0" /></a>Steve Howe was magnificent.<br /><br />The Magic bag in Ferndale, Michigan is a very small, club atmosphere venue, so there were no bad seats in the house. We chose to sit in the middle (as opposed to crowding the stage, that area being without seating, and The Cribs/Franz Ferdinand/Death Cab For Cutie concert the week before having worn out my Standing Room Only legs).<br /><br /><a href="http://www.robertnasir.com/weblog/uploaded_images/stevehowe2-747496.jpg" target="_blank"><img style="FLOAT: right; MARGIN: 0px 0px 10px 10px; CURSOR: hand" alt="" src="http://www.robertnasir.com/weblog/uploaded_images/stevehowe2-745229.jpg" border="0" /></a> Solo show, six guitars, only one song with backing track ("Soon" with Steve playing slide & singing). He told wonderful stories, and had a fine sense of humor - I was glad he sang on a few songs too.<br /><br /><p>He also gave autographs after the show - Amy & I each received one, which was nice in and of itself - but the real treat was saying "hi" to Steve, and seeing up close what a genuinely warm and gracious person he is.</p><p>The trip to Lombard, Illinois (SW of Chicago) was fun, as usual. I drove the Kia Spectra, about 625 miles round trip, 30mpg.</p><p>When I arrived into town (without hotel reservations - the Embassy Suites - Lombard, hotel of choice, was sold out when I tried to book a room ahead of time), I got lucky and there was one room for one night available - a happy event, as I like the Embassy Suites' swimming pool (had an evening swim Sunday night) and wonderful breakfast (cook-to-order, and many carts of other fruits, beverages, breads, etc) in their picturesque lobby. </p><p><img style="FLOAT: left; MARGIN: 0px 10px 10px 0px; CURSOR: hand" alt="" src="http://www.robertnasir.com/weblog/uploaded_images/training-719034.jpg" border="0" />The training sessions were for STI's CFST (<a href="http://www.stiknowledge.com/certification_advisory/hd2k_cfst.asp" target="_blank">Certified Field Support Technician</a>) program, given at Waste Management's regional offices. Good sessions, good training, if you can ignore the usual excess of corporate-speak and bad philosophy (e.g. "perception is reality"). WM's presenter did a great job, and in addition to the CFST training, any course which includes a goal-setting workshop has to be a good thing!</p><p></p><p></p><p></p><p></p><p><a href="http://www.robertnasir.com/weblog/uploaded_images/pfc-737569.jpg" target="_blank"><img style="FLOAT: right; MARGIN: 0px 0px 10px 10px; CURSOR: hand" alt="" src="http://www.robertnasir.com/weblog/uploaded_images/pfc-785169.jpg" border="0" /></a></p><p></p><p></p><p>Monday night included my first ever visit to P.F. Chang's China Bistro. </p><p></p><p></p><p>Good food with good company. I had Mongolian Beef, good stuff. Vanilla ice cream for dessert, one of my favorites ... but fellow Michigander tech <a href="http://www.robertnasir.com/weblog/uploaded_images/cheesecake-709295.jpg" target="_blank"><img style="FLOAT: left; MARGIN: 0px 10px 10px 0px; CURSOR: hand" alt="" src="http://www.robertnasir.com/weblog/uploaded_images/cheesecake-749282.jpg" border="0" /></a>Jeremy ordered the cheesecake for dessert, which was quite an artwork. I'll have to order it next time. Funny, I didn't notice the waitstaff checking Jeremy out when she brought his dessert - Jeremy will have to let us know if she slipped him a phone number ... then a quick stop at <a href="http://www.robertnasir.com/weblog/uploaded_images/taylor-740937.jpg" target="_blank"><img style="FLOAT: right; MARGIN: 0px 0px 10px 10px; CURSOR: hand" alt="" src="http://www.robertnasir.com/weblog/uploaded_images/taylor-739097.jpg" border="0" /></a>Taylor Brewing for a nightcap (OK, non-alcoholic for me, thank you very much). </p><p></p><p></p><p></p><p>So ... tried to get a second night at Embassy Suites - no luck - ended up at AmeriSuites instead. An OK second best choice, I suppose. </p><p><a href="http://www.robertnasir.com/weblog/uploaded_images/orderstation-717019.jpg" target="_blank"><img style="FLOAT: left; MARGIN: 0px 10px 10px 0px; CURSOR: hand" alt="" src="http://www.robertnasir.com/weblog/uploaded_images/orderstation-714056.jpg" border="0" /></a>Free breakfast is Continental style, lots of fruits, juices & starches, but they also have a nifty order station, where you can call up hot food using a touch screen and bill to a credit card or room. Hooray!</p><p>Perhaps my enthusiasm only makes sense if you know I was a manager at Hardee's for eleven years ... and all the Hardee's in Southeastern Michigan are gone, sold & converted to Wendy's & Tim Horton's ... which makes me nostalgic when I see a Hardee's still in operation. </p><p><a href="http://www.robertnasir.com/weblog/uploaded_images/dinner-754499.jpg" target="_blank"><img style="FLOAT: right; MARGIN: 0px 0px 10px 10px; CURSOR: hand" alt="" src="http://www.robertnasir.com/weblog/uploaded_images/dinner-751377.jpg" border="0" /></a>And while I would never make it a habit to eat their massive burgers on a regular basis, I still get a big kick out of their willingness to thumb their noses (via explicit statements, no less) at those who'd accuse them of contributing to obesity in America. How do they do this? By providing more dinner choices to folks. Hooray!</p><p><a href="http://www.robertnasir.com/weblog/uploaded_images/speedlimit-725297.jpg" target="_blank"><img style="FLOAT: left; MARGIN: 0px 10px 10px 0px; CURSOR: hand" alt="" src="http://www.robertnasir.com/weblog/uploaded_images/speedlimit-713178.jpg" border="0" /></a>One more picture ... </p><p>... what happens when the Speed Limit ends? A month can be a long time.<br /><br />Highlights? <a href="http://amynasir.com" target="_blank">Amy's </a>a year older! Happy birthday to you, happy birthday to you, happy birthday dear Amy, happy birthday to you!<br /><br />Alas, for dear Amy, <a href="http://www.darkshadows.com/" target="_blank">Dark Shadows</a> Collection 3 is now history. Only 2,340,010 more episodes to go.<br /><br />Amy's March 19 cabaret concert with the <a href="http://www.redfordsymphony.8m.net/" target="_blank">Redford Symphony</a> was a good one. And she's got another coming up in May - the Spring Concert!<br /><br /><a href="http://www.robertnasir.com/weblog/uploaded_images/tulips-737318.jpg" target="_blank"><img style="FLOAT: left; MARGIN: 0px 10px 10px 0px; CURSOR: hand" alt="" src="http://www.robertnasir.com/weblog/uploaded_images/tulips-731841.jpg" border="0" /></a>As it's officially Spring, Amy's tulips have chosen to make an appearance. Lovely.<br /><br />O' course, that means lawnwork. Anyone want to come over 'n help?<br /><br /><a href="http://andrewbernstein.net" target="_blank">Andrew Bernstein</a> at U of M on April 10th was his usual butt-kicking self.<br /><br /><a href="http://andrewbernstein.net/" target="_blank"><img style="FLOAT: right; MARGIN: 0px 0px 10px 10px; CURSOR: hand" alt="" src="http://www.robertnasir.com/weblog/uploaded_images/bernstein_uofm_2006_01-733270.jpg" border="0" /></a>The topic - Religion vs. Morality. A rousing talk, followed by a spirited Q & A session. And we all went out to The Pizza House afterward. Amy & I produced the flyer based on <a href="http://www.robertnasir.com/objectivism/umso" target="_blank">Amy's brilliant ideas</a>. I videotaped the talk (and as usual, it took a long, long time to edit the video). If you were there and are looking to purchase the souvenir DVD for a contribution to <a href="http://www.umso.org/" target="_blank">UMSO</a>, drop me a line. Nice work, Dr. B.<br /><br /><a href="http://www.robertnasir.com/weblog/uploaded_images/ego-734375.jpg" target="_blank"><img style="FLOAT: left; MARGIN: 0px 10px 10px 0px; CURSOR: hand" alt="" src="http://www.robertnasir.com/weblog/uploaded_images/ego-723570.jpg" border="0" /></a>On the subject of Objectivist fun, the second April <a href="http://egoplace.com" target="_blank">EGO</a> meeting also included an Easter Egg Hunt - with an Objectivist definition tucked in each egg! Curiously, there were a few "rotten eggs" but a good time was had by all. And several new folks were there, including the delightful Lulu, and Mike (of <a href="http://mikeseyes.blogspot.com/" target="_blank">Mike's Eyes</a> fame).<br /><br /><a href="http://www.robertnasir.com/weblog/uploaded_images/dc4c-738210.jpg" target="_blank"><img style="FLOAT: right; MARGIN: 0px 0px 10px 10px; CURSOR: hand" alt="" src="http://www.robertnasir.com/weblog/uploaded_images/dc4c-736716.jpg" border="0" /></a>Also on the Amy list was a concert last Tuesday, The <a href="http://www.thecribs.com/" target="_blank">Cribs</a>, Franz <a href="http://www.franzferdinand.co.uk/" target="_blank">Ferdinand</a>, and Death Cab For <a href="http://deathcabforcutie.com" target="_blank">Cutie</a>. Good show. Curious lack of guitar solos - but several drum solos. But "general admission" is hard on your feet for a show that long! Diana and Echo were in attendance, and a good time was had by all.<br /><br /><a href="http://www.robertnasir.com/weblog/uploaded_images/fdpjam-745374.jpg" target="_blank"><img style="FLOAT: left; MARGIN: 0px 10px 10px 0px; CURSOR: hand" alt="" src="http://www.robertnasir.com/weblog/uploaded_images/fdpjam-739161.jpg" border="0" /></a>Speaking of music - the April 2006 <a href="http://www.fenderforum.com/forum.html?db=&topic_number=553838" target="_blank">FDPJam</a> was a good'n. Some clips are posted <a href="http://fdpjam.com" target="_blank">online</a>. Looking forward to doing another one this year, as the bar (<a href="http://www.corktowntavern.com/" target="_blank">Corktown Tavern</a>) has extended us an open invitation.<br /><br />Last weekend, Amy visited her mom in Indianapolis, so the lovely Miss Diana and I took the opportunity for a father/daughter night out, and saw V For Vendetta. I enjoyed the film, though the terrorist means used by the hero are a good subject for debate - are such means ever valid? That's a tough one.<br /><br /><a href="http://www.robertnasir.com/weblog/uploaded_images/diana-722143.jpg" target="_blank"><img style="FLOAT: left; MARGIN: 0px 10px 10px 0px; CURSOR: hand" alt="" src="http://www.robertnasir.com/weblog/uploaded_images/diana-712468.jpg" border="0" /></a>Next morning, we celebrated Bring Your Daughter To Work Day (well, not officially...). It's too bad she has no passion for computers - she'd be a good field technician.<br /><br /><a href="http://amynasir.com/bunny" target="_blank">Dahly's</a> got spring fever. <a href="http://amynasir.com/bunny" target="_blank"><img style="FLOAT: right; MARGIN: 0px 0px 10px 10px; CURSOR: hand" alt="" src="http://www.robertnasir.com/weblog/uploaded_images/dah-768085.jpg" border="0" /></a>Or she's just becoming psychotic. Which means I'll have to figure out how to customize this thing - since this is <a href="http://blogger.com" target="_blank">Blogger's</a> only template with nice burgundy accents - the only part of this blog which matches <a href="http://www.robertnasir.com/" target="_blank">my home page</a>.<br /><br />On the bright side, only four days until EGO visits <a href="http://www.thehenryford.org/museum/liberty/about/overview.asp" target="_blank">"With Liberty & Justice for All"</a> on Sunday.<br /><br />And only <a href="http://www.themagicbag.com/hot.htm" target="_blank">49 days</a> until <a href="http://www.stevehowe.com/" target="_blank">Steve Howe</a> comes <a href="http://www.robertnasir.com/misc/yes/stevehowe/ "target="_blank">back</a> to <a href="http://www.themagicbag.com/" target="_blank">The Magic Bag</a>! <a href="http://www.yesworld.com/" target="_blank">Yes</a>!<div class="blogger-post-footer"><img width='1' height='1' src='https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/tracker/22458312-114184173106452825?l=www.RobertNasir.com%2Fweblog%2Findex.htm'/></div>Robert Nasirhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12930902155985867606noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-22458312.post-1141321195115364262006-03-02T09:23:00.000-08:002006-03-02T10:23:36.846-08:00Good Thursday to you and yours!<a href="http://www.RobertNasir.com/weblog/uploaded_images/flowers-730121.jpg"><img style="FLOAT: right; MARGIN: 0px 0px 10px 10px; CURSOR: hand" alt="" src="http://www.RobertNasir.com/weblog/uploaded_images/flowers-728353.jpg" border="0" /></a>Good Thursday to you and yours!<br /><br />Thanks again for the <a href="https://www.dunkindonuts.com/" target="_blank">coffee</a>, to the Darling One. Here's some flowers - of course, you got those already, but it's been a couple years...<br /><br />It's been a coffee kind of day. (Dunkin Donuts indeed has some of the best coffee in the civilized world - but I wish they'd learn how to spell 'doughnut'.)<br /><br /><a href="http://www.robertnasir.com/weblog/uploaded_images/server-791985.jpg"><img style="FLOAT: left; MARGIN: 0px 10px 10px 0px; CURSOR: hand" alt="" src="http://www.robertnasir.com/weblog/uploaded_images/server-789579.jpg" border="0" /></a>Speaking of coffee .. an old pic (at least a couple years ago). Old pix take me back ... nope, this is not a WM site - I see the Data Center has the caffeine option. Who's allowing beverages in the server room???<br /><br />Sometimes I miss my <a href="http://nusoftsolutions.com" target="_blank">NuSoft</a> Solutions tenure. Interesting times indeed.<br /><br /><div align="right"><a href="http://egoplace.com/pictures/pictures-vol1.htm" target="_blank"><em><span style="font-size:85%;">Mood: Robert is Reminiscent</span></em> </a></div><div class="blogger-post-footer"><img width='1' height='1' src='https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/tracker/22458312-114132119511536426?l=www.RobertNasir.com%2Fweblog%2Findex.htm'/></div>Robert Nasirhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12930902155985867606noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-22458312.post-1141067354167006862006-02-27T09:06:00.000-08:002006-02-27T11:17:28.520-08:00Hooray - everyone is back!<a href="http://www.robertnasir.com/weblog/uploaded_images/eric-759799.jpg"><img style="FLOAT: right; MARGIN: 0px 0px 10px 10px; CURSOR: hand" alt="" src="http://www.robertnasir.com/weblog/uploaded_images/eric-748713.jpg" border="0" /></a>OK, a quick entry, as it turns out that someone's actually reading this. You know who you are.<br /><br />A fun & fortuitous weekend! Saturday was Take Your Daughter To Work Day. Not nationally, mind you ... just for me. Nice to have alone time with the charming one.<br /><br /><a href="http://www.robertnasir.com/weblog/uploaded_images/dianaandecho-723525.jpg"><img style="FLOAT: left; MARGIN: 0px 10px 10px 0px; CURSOR: hand" alt="" src="http://www.robertnasir.com/weblog/uploaded_images/dianaandecho-721177.jpg" border="0" /></a>Then the return, in chronological order, of <a href="http://ericlakits.com" target="_blank">Eric</a> from Germany, <a href="http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendid=14087659" target="_blank">Echo</a> from Florida, and <a href="http://amynasir.com" target="_blank">Amy</a> from Indiana.<br />(<a href="http://amynasir.com/bunny" target="_blank">Dahly</a> is, of course, fairly charming too - and affectionate, though it was clear that she was looking forward to her Bun Mom returning home.)<br /><br />Did you know that Amy is playing with the <a href="http://www.redfordsymphony.8m.net/" target="_blank">Redford Symphony Orchestra</a> <em>(note: outdated website)</em>? Two shows so far - the next is scheduled for March. If you're in southeast Michigan, time to go check her out. <a href="http://www.robertnasir.com/weblog/uploaded_images/amy-771566.jpg"><em><img style="FLOAT: right; MARGIN: 0px 0px 10px 10px; CURSOR: hand" alt="" src="http://www.robertnasir.com/weblog/uploaded_images/amy-770313.jpg" border="0" /></em></a><br /><br /><em>(The last show featured a bassoon concerto with the </em><a href="http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendID=8041483" target="_blank"><em>Sinister Bassoonist</em></a><em> - yep, that's her MySpace name - and she's in both the MySpace Nietzsche Klub and the Ayn Rand Lover's group! Hmm!)</em><br /><br />Have I mentioned that the Robert Nasir's Musical History page was <a href="http://robertnasir.com/trebor" target="_blank">updated</a> this month? Got the scanner hooked up and went through the Trebor 1984 and other photoalbums (from back when photographs were on paper, and computers meant IBM PC, and New Wave was still pretty new). New pix, including first & only keyboardist (well, besides me), <a href="http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendID=10311791" target="_blank">R. L. Claypool</a>.<br /><br />Another highlight of the weekend - rock & roll with Jeff, Rob & Drew, the Band With No Name. Eventually I'll post linx to pix & clips of us jamming - watch this space!<div class="blogger-post-footer"><img width='1' height='1' src='https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/tracker/22458312-114106735416700686?l=www.RobertNasir.com%2Fweblog%2Findex.htm'/></div>Robert Nasirhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12930902155985867606noreply@blogger.com0
