A bunch of other celebs rehashed some of their most memorable roles with that trade mark shoddy photo set with center rear spotlight and boring facial expressions that Empire is so well known for. It's ART DAMNIT! Anyway, this is not the best photo of ole' Danny McWandwiggler. He's certainly putting the Hairy into Harry Potter. ::rimshot::

You know, I don't often post movie trailers and what not up here anymore, cause it seems you can't swing a dead twitter account around without hitting some sort of "movie blogger" these days....however, I couldn't resist posting this little gem I watched recently. Oh, and by gem, I mean the lowest point in Kevin Sorbo's career. Or the highest, depending on how you look at it. I'd much rather BE bitch slapped than actually have to watch "Bitch Slap".

The terrible over use of poor slow motion and green screen effects are enough to make me spurt milk out my nose, but the tag line is the real kicker:

"BITCH SLAP is a post-modern, thinking man’s throwback to the “B” Movie/Exploitation films of the 1950’s - 70’s as well as a loving, sly parody of the same. Inspired by the likes of Dragstrip Girl;, Faster Pussycat, Kill, Kill; Kung Fu Nun and the pantheon of Blaxploitation films, BITCH SLAP will mix girls, guns, outrageous action and jaw-dropping visuals with a message… don’t be naughty! I love the usage of things like "complicated" "ultimate morality tale" "post-modern" "thinking man's" and especially "jaw-dropping visuals with a message"

Another weekend has come and gone, and we didn't actually get into the theaters. There just wasn't anything that was irresitably calling us to the silver screen, and no, Inglorious Basterds wasn't enough to get me in the seat for 3 hours. Despite a few callers defending the film and its defacto "Tarantino-awesomeness" we are skeptical, and may check it out later this week. Not many great DVDs coming out this week either. Highlights being the Criterion release of The Last Days of Disco. We talked more about Avatar, the upcoming Wolf Man remake, and new movies coming out this weekend. We also gave away more free tickets to The Second City. We heard music from a bunch of movies too, but since I didn't write them all down and we had tons of technical difficulties, I only remember playing music from these. Deal with it.

I know it's been a while, but here's a score selection as promised. You'd think for a guy that has well over a thousand scores at his disposal, I'd post these more often, but hey...I'm a busy guy. I don't think I need to go into a lengthy description of how cool Bill and Ted are, and how the music from this film shaped a generation. Okay so maybe that's pushing it, but it was still most non-heinous music. Most people have fond memories of the soundtrack, but not many people have ever heard the score by David Newman outside the film. That's where I come in with my out of print awesomeness. Ed McMahon dies and No Podcast this week.

Well folks,

Yesterday sucked. A lot. My car died, work sucked, I went to the gym on my bike, then my bike gears flew off. (No lie) I just didn't have the strength to do anything other that eat greek french fries and watch In Bruges on my projector. Which is a great movie if you haven't seen it. But guess what else? To add to the crappy day, Ed McMahon up and croaked. Poor guy.

At age 86 he'd lived a full life and pneumonia got him, and prolly other old dude related stuff. Most well known for his sidekick antics with Johnny Carson, he also hosted TV Bloopers and Practical Jokes and of course delivering lots of large checks to tottering old magazine subscribers. Oh yeah, he also co-hosted a short lived interview style show with Alf.

This is how I remember you Ed. Goodbye Old Friend.

We had an interesting theme for this show, and it was centered around the rough days that both the Gaffer and I had that day. I don't have a play list for you, due to technical difficulty (yet more icing on the bad day cake) but all of the films we played music from fit the day perfectly. Kill Bill guy found dead in Bangkok (1936 - 2009)

Some somber news here today folks as David Carradine was found half naked in a closet dangling from a curtain rope. (full story via AP) Most people know him as "That Kill Bill guy" but actually, he's had a very long career in some very notable rolls that weren't related in any way to Quentin Tarantino. Speaking of one trick ponies, Carradine managed to ride one of his own for many many years often times taking on roles that resurrected his famous role of Caine in the 1974 TV series Kung Fu, which he kind of Shanghai'd from Bruce Lee. No pun intended. Some of my favorite roles included Frankenstien from Death Race 2000 (pictured above), John Tucker from Future Force, and Col. Horace Wiggins from Kill Zone. (Okay, perhaps a couple of those were sarcastic)

Anyway, this guy was just starting to peak in his career, you know...that point where all the cheeseball rolls you took on in low budget movies and cameo's on short lived TV's shows finally start to pay off and you become some sort of iconic symbol of irony? Well maybe that's what pushed him over the edge. He had completed several projects in 2008, and there are about 6 projects still out there labeled as post production...so perhaps we haven't seen the last of ole Kwai Chang.

In any case, pour one out for old David Carradine. He earned it for his many years of putting up with all the hambone shticks we forced him into.

We'll be sure to give him proper shout outs on next weeks show.

Lost but not forgotten: White Dwarf (1995)

Howdy folks,

Since podcast hosting is down again this week, I thought we'd take a look at another lost movie. I've been pining for some good new sci-fi, but since it's been failing so hard until the hopeful phoenix that Avatar is supposed to be arrives, I've been looking to the past. Cue Francis Ford Coppola to produce this little lost sci-fi gem. Coppola is no stranger to schlock, be it in his movies or his kinfolk ::cough:: Nicolas Cage ::cough:: However, in this old forgotten TV movie, he takes what should be schlock and guides the creative team to create something that's actually pretty cool and addresses more interesting sci-fi concepts than any big budget blockbuster has even gotten close to in years. Of course that means it's still totally out of print and may never see the light of redistribution. That's where my pal the Negative Cutter comes in. He's got copies of this joint over at his website for 7 bucks as opposed to the Thai PAL dvd that sells for some stupid hundred and twenty bucks on amazon.com

So do yourself a favor and check out Neal McDonough and Paul Winfield in a crazy world that's off it's axis, chock full of aliens (made of LATEX not CGI!) and interesting concepts and wait for Hollywood to figure out that the state of sci-fi is in shambles.

Horror DVDs

Howdy folks,

I normally don't post too many things about deals on movies, but for those of you who love your horror movies, Amazon.com has a great deal going on right now on horror DVDs. There's a pretty sizable list of movies to choose from and it's Buy One Get One Free. Pretty good deal, especially considering you could buy the Hellraiser boxed set and get the Dario Argento Box Set for free. A good time to stock up or spend that stimulus check if you haven't already wasted it on ~~blow and cheap tricks~~ that new KIA soul with the hamsters in the commercial.
