BIOS/BIBLIOS:

Mark Wallace is the author of a number of books and chapbooks of poetry, fiction, and criticism. “Temporary Worker Rides A Subway” won the 2002 Gertrude Stein Poetry Award and was published by Green Integer Books. He is the author of a multi-genre work, “Haze”, and a novel, “Dead Carnival”. His critical articles and reviews have appeared in numerous publications, and along with Steven Marks, he edited “Telling It Slant: Avant Garde Poetics of the 1990s” (University of Alabama Press), a collection of 26 essays by different writers. Most recently he has published a collection of tales, “Walking Dreams”, and a book of poems, “Felonies of Illusion”. He teaches at California State University, San Marcos.

K. Lorraine Graham is a writer and visual artist. Graham is the author of “Terminal Humming” (Edge Books, 2009), as well as the recording “Moving Walkways” (Narrowhouse Recordings, 2006) and numerous chapbooks, including “And so for you there is no heartbreak” (Dusie Kollektiv, 2008), “Diverse Speculations Descending Therefrom” (Dusie Kollektiv, 2007), “See It Everywhere” (Big Game Books, 2006), “Terminal Humming” (Slack Buddha Press, 2004), With Mark Wallace, 1994-2004 (Subpoetics Self-Publish or Perish, 2004), “Dear [Blank] I Believe in Other Worlds” (Phylum Press, 2003) and “It Does Not Go Back” (Subpoetics Self-Publish or Perish, 2002). “Large Waves to Large Obstacles” is forthcoming from Take Home Project. Akilah Oliver is the author of 4 books of poetry: A Toast in the House of Friends (CoffeeHouse, 2009), a(A)ugust (Yo-Yo Labs, 2007), The Putterer’s Notebook (Belladonna, 2006), An Arriving Guard of Angels, Thusly Coming to Greet (Farfalla, 2004). A book of experimental prose poetry the she said dialogues: flesh memory (Smokeproof/Erudite Fangs, 1999) received the PEN American Center’s “Beyond Margins/Open Book” award. She is co-founder of the avant-garde, feminist performance group, The Sacred Naked Nature Girls (SNNG, 1994-1997) whose work is the subject of critical study in performance theory, found in In Other Los Angeleses: Multicentric Performance Art, (Meiling Cheng, Univ. of CA Press, 2002). Charles Bernstein said of A Toast in the House of Friends, “This poetry is a holding space, a folded grace, in which objects held most dear disappear to return as radiant moments of memory’s forgiving home”. Alice Notley comments, “Akilah Oiiver’s book is an extraordinary gift for everyone, pushing beyond itself into the aura of holy graffiti in the big night, unstable shapes that won’t break.” Oliver’s work can be found online at PennSound. NOTE: Akilah will collaborate with trumpeter Rasul Siddik. Siddick was born in St. Louis, MO. He is an internationally acclaimed jazz musician and recording artist who has worked with the Now Artet, David Murray, Archie Shepp, Kirk Lightsey, Katy Roberts, Sunny Murray, Joe Lee Wilson and Steve Mac Craven’s group “Black Studies”. Virginie Lalucq est née en 1975 et vit à Paris. Elle est l’auteure de Couper les tiges (Act Mem/ Comp'act, 2001) et de Fortino Samano (avec Jean-Luc-Nancy, Galilée 2004). Elle a participé à l'anthologie Autres territoires, dirigée par Henri Deluy (Ferrago/Leo Scheer, 2003) dans laquelle elle écrit « Cisailles, butée, copeaux », et a publié dans plusieurs revues, notamment Action poétique, Action restreinte, L'Animal, Les cahiers de Benjy, Issue, Java, Nioques, Les Lettres françaises, La revue des ressources, Les70.com... Elle est également membre du comité de rédaction de la revue Nioques. ENS déclare que « Un désir certain d'expérimentation caractérise son travail, désir qui se traduit notamment par de nombreux projets d'écriture et de performances collectifs, et par l'utilisation de matériaux et supports divers. » Elle a publié ses textes traduits en espagnol dans Vertebra (Chili) et participe enfin aux Lettres françaises (supplément culturel de l'Humanité).

Bios:

Adeena Karasick is an internationally acclaimed poet and media-artist, and the author of six books of poetry and poetic theory: The House That Hijack Built (Talonbooks, 2004),The Arugula Fugues (Zasterle Press, 2001), Dyssemia Sleaze (Talonbooks, Spring 2000), Genrecide (Talonbooks, 1996), Mêmewars (Talonbooks, 1994), and The Empress Has No Closure (Talonbooks, 1992), as well as 4 videopoems all available on YouTube. Engaged with the art of combination and turbulence of thought, her work is a testament to the creative and regenerative power of language and its infinite possibilities for pushing meaning to the limits of its semantic boundaries. She was recently granted the MPS Mobile Award as being the world’s first “Mobile Poet” whereby her work is being made available on mobile devices (cell phones and smart phones). She is Professor of Poetry and Cultural Theory at City University of New York. Forthcoming is Amuse Bouche: Tasty Treats for the Mouth (Talonbooks 2009). Her writing has been described as "electricity in language" (Nicole Brossard).

Gwenaëlle Stubbe, d’origine belge, est poète, prosateur et dramaturge francophone établie à Paris depuis 5 ans. Elle a fait des études de lettres (maîtrise sur le poète belge contemporain Carl Norac, agrégation, D.E.A sur les processus de création en jeu dans l'écriture en général et plus particulièrement dans les ateliers d'écriture). Elle prépare actuellement un doctorat sur la poésie contemporaine (fonctions de la répétition) à l'École normale supérieure de Lyon. Gwenaëlle a publié dans de nombreuses anthologies et revues, et a sorti quatre livres : Le héros et sa créature (le Cormier, 2002) ; L’incroyable histoire du grand Gelbe, pièce de théâtre co-écrite avec Laurence Vielle (l’Ambedui, 2000) ; Un serpent de fumée, poésie illustrée par Camille de Taeye, préface de Marcel Moreau (éditions la Pierre d’Alun, 1999) ; et dernièrement Salut salut Marxus (éditions Al Dante, 2006) Elle participe à la création du groupe VEGA, 6 écrivains en discussion permanente. Elle fait régulièrement des performances en français et en flamand partout en Europe et à l’étranger.

The students, along with François de Peaudecerf (Polytechnique) and Vasilena Kossastakis (EHESS) translated and read selections in French of Naka Pierce and Pusateri's poems, while selected translations of Chapelle's work were read by co-curators Michelle Noteboom & Jennifer K Dick.

Marie-Louise Chapelle est née à Nevers en 1974. Elle a été publiée pour la première fois par Jean Daive dans sa revue FIN (n°7, 8 et 16). Son livre mettre. (Théâtre Typographique, 2006) propose une « expérience des limites, celles du sens, des formes et des pratiques, des corps comme du texte ». Elle est l’auteur de plusieurs livres d’artistes avec Emmanuelle Pidoux : Corps finis quelconques et fractions qui s’en déduisent par la méthode de l’approximation (1999), La fille avec laquelle j’allais à l’hôtel (2000), et Plus-value (2001). Elle a également écrit des textes qui ont paru dans les Cahiers du Refuge (n°s 149 et 113) avec le cipM et dans Critique, les intensifs: poètes du XXI siècle (2008) (--voir le recensement de ce volume sur Poezibao). IVY WRITERS PARIS presents a bilingual reading by Marie Etienne and Marilyn Hacker to celebrate the award-winning publication of Etienne’s “King of A Hundred Horsemen”(FSG, 2008) translated by Hacker. King of a Hundred Horsemen—in a brilliant translation by Marilyn Hacker that Robert Hass selected for the National Poetry Series’ first Robert Fagles Translation Prize in 2007—is an elegant, deeply affecting work from a master poet. Both poets will read their own work and works in translation.

Marie Etienne, auteur de plus que 18 recueils de poésie, est née à Menton mais a passé la plus grande partie de son enfance et de son adolescence en Asie du Sud-Est et en Afrique noire. Elle s’est ensuite installée à Paris et a été pendant dix ans la collaboratrice d’Antoine Vitez. Elle collabore à la Quinzaine Littéraire depuis 1985. BIOS :
Alexander Dickow has been gradually accumulating since 1979. He was first constructed in an unlikely settlement called Lexington, Kentucky, before moving to the even more unlikely city of Moscow, Idaho. He later spent several evenings in Médan and other French cities, and currently lives in Châtillon. His new book from Argol Editions, Caramboles, is written in French and English. He is also the author of essays on the likes of Philippe Beck and Rabelais, as well as poetry reviews. He is currently working on a new poetry chapbook, translations of exciting young American poets into French, and a doctoral dissertation.

Martin Richet contribue traductions, critiques et poèmes aux revues Action poétique, Action restreinte, Cahier Critique de Poésie, Georges, If, Issue, Java, Les lettres françaises, Nioques, L'Orient Littéraire, Petite, Le Quartanier et Tais-toi, là. Ont été ou vont être publiées en volume des traductions de Gertrude Stein, Stacy Doris, Robert Grenier, Hannah Wiener, Carla Harryman, Robert Creeley, Barrett Watten, Bruce Andrews, Alan Davies et Lyn Hejinian. La revue électronique www.doublechange.com a consacré l'essentiel de son quatrième numéro à ses travaux de traductions. Son premier livre de poèmes, Bureau vertical / Onze pour Table, a paru aux Cahiers de la Seine.

Thomas Vercruysse, né en 1978, rédige actuellement une thèse sur "Méthode poétique et mystique sans Dieu d'après le modèle de Valéry". Il est l'auteur de documentaires sur des poètes, ou sur des artistes liés à la poésie (Vénus Khoury-Ghata, Adonis, Théo Angelopoulos...). Bios:
Ohio-born poet, George Vance, is most recently involved in experiments with word/image fusion, tags, & street art. His hybrid language & image video installation, “HEIGHTS”, was exhibited in Brussels in 2006, & he recently designed a ‘totem’ sculpture with a Kanak artist. Author of Bent Time, a chapbook, his poems have appeared in Paris in Pharos & Upstairs at Duroc. He has read at numerous Paris venues including The American Library, Wice, Paris Writer’s workshop, Live Poets, The Red Wheelbarrow, & as part of the multi-voiced performance group “Quadriphonics” (with Jennifer K Dick, Michelle Noteboom & Barbara Beck). Vance has lived in Liberia, Austria, Germany, France & the French Overseas ‘Country’ of New Caledonia/Kanaky. Some of his poems can be found on the collaborative poetry blog “rewords”, of which he is a member.

Marco Boubille a fait des études de théâtre, de cinéma et de la philosophie, et travaille actuellement dans une grande école d'ingénieurs. Loi n (Les Petits matins, octobre 2008) est son premier livre après avoir été publié en revue (notamment dans Passage d'encre et Hypercourt). Loi n est un diptyque en forme d'enquête poétique qui permet à l'auteur mais aussi au lecteur de retrouver l'enfant qu'il fut, mais définitivement « de loin ». Un premier livre important qui affirme une voie et une démarche originales faites d'émotion, humour parfois burlesque et de formalisme poétique. Franck André Jamme is a specialist of art brut, as well as tantric and tribal arts from contemporary India. (For example, he was the “commissaire” for the show "Magiciens de la Terre" at the centre Georges Pompidou, then touring Azur/Fondation Cartier, Galerie du Jour Agnès b. Paris, Feature Gallery and The Drawing Center, NYC). He’s also the editor for the Pléiade edition on René Char. As concerns his own work, since 1981 Franck André Jamme has published 13 poetry collections & collections of fragments with publishers in France such as Fata Morgana, Les editions Unes, Melville, Virgile & Flammarion. He has also published a variety of art or artist illustrated works (for example with works by Suzan Frecon, Jaume Plensa or James Brown). He’s also a translator, in particular of John Ashbery, and four of his own works have been translated into English (at Black Square/ Brooklyn Rail or Sélavy Press) including "The Recitation of Forgetting” which was in turn translated by Ashberry. A 5th book will appear in English at the end of 2008 with Wave Books. Charles Borkhuis est poète, dramaturge, critique et organisateur de lectures. Mary Ellen Gallagher moved to Paris years ago from Denver, where she’d she specialized in marketing and public relations, ran her own PR firm serving clients as diverse as the Diane Fossey Gorilla Fund & the World Bank. Now she is completing her MFA in fiction at Lesley University. A writer of prose (for which she has won awards in France, the USA & Australia) & memoir, she will be delighting us with a series of works written in metros this spring.

Elisa McCool, editor in chief of Come Hither magazine, hails from Austin, TX but has been living in Paris for 2 years. Her work has appeared in Skanky Possum & in broadside form for the Parvati Press Cross-Quarter reading series. She taught a poetry workshop in a men's prison in Iowa, & next year will join the MFA program in poetry at the University of Michigan. Don’t miss this chance to hear her work!

Jonathan Regier is the author of the forthcoming Three Years From Upstate (Six Gallery Press, October 2008: www.sixgallerypress.com) & is hard at work on a new collection based on Tristan & Iseult. His work combines elements of storytelling with poetry. This will be his first reading in Paris! Poet & visual artist

Christine Herzer is working on her MFA in poetry at Bennington College, Vermont. She has studied with Michael Burkard & Timothy Liu. She is currently in Paris to work on an artist book, & will be sharing new works with us.

Jennifer K Dick, author of the book Fluorescence, the chapbook Retina / Rétine & eBook Enclosures will read from new work in progress. She teaches at École Polytechnique & Lille III. Jen co-organizes IVY Writers with Michelle Noteboom. Laura Mullen teaches at Louisiana State University and is the author of five books: three collections of poetry and two hybrid texts. Her most recent book is the hybrid text murder mystery, Murmur (Futurepoem 2007), preceded by Subjet (U of CA), Tales of Horror (Kelsey St), After I was Dead (U of GA) and The Surface (U of IL, National Poetry Series Winner, 1991). She has been awarded Ironwood's Stanford Prize, a National Endowment for the Arts Fellowship and a Rona Jaffe Award, among other honors. Recent poems have appeared or are forthcoming in Octopus, 1913, New American Writing, the Denver Quarterly, and elsewhere. Recent prose has been collected in Civil Disobediences: Poetics & Politics in Action (Coffeehouse Press), and Paraspheres (Omnidawn).

Bénédicte Vilgrain édite & imprime (avec Bernard Rival), et traduit (Susan Howe, George Oppen, Paul de Man, Walter Benjamin, Paul Celan, Maître Eckhart…) au Théâtre Typographique (éditeur, Courbevoie) depuis 1984. Margo Berdeshevsky, née à New York, vit à Paris est collagiste, photographe et auteur de BUT A PASSAGE IN WILDERNESS (The Sheep Meadow Press, 2007--poésie). Son receuil de nouvelles, “Beautiful Soon Enough”, vient de recevoir le Ronald Sukenick Innovative Fiction Prize, et paraitra chez FC2 en 2009. Son roman, Vagrant, paraitra aux Etats-Unis avec Red Hen Press.D’autres textes ont été publiés dans les revues Chelsea, Nimrod, Poetry International, The Literary Review, Frank, Indiana Review, Van Gogh's Ear, Runes, Rattapallax, ACM, Southern California Anthology, Many Mountains Moving, 100 Poets Against the War, Pharos, Short Fuse, Bamboo Ridge, Tears in the Fence, Upstairs at Duroc.. Among his many books in French are, Martebelle, novel, Le seuil, 2008 ; Les Tabor, novel, Stock, 2006 ; Figure rose, poems, Flammarion, 2006 (Prix Ploquin-Caunan de l’Académie Française) ; La danse de la poussière dans les rayons du soleil, a novel (1999) ; and Le present, poems (1999). L’animal, his next collection of poems, is forthcoming with Flammarion in 2009. He is also known for translating from Hebru and German, in particular the works of Peter Huchel, David Vogel, and Yehouda Amichaï, but has also translated numerous American authors, such as Raymond Carver, or C.K. Williams. He currently lives in Paris. He has a few books translated into English, such as “Last News Of Mr. Nobody: Selected Poems” in which Moses writes, "Yellow, the afternoons at his grandparents'/Yellow, his first kiss/Yellow, a certain nineteenth of June/Yellow, the slight and reflexive words of his poems."

Jerome Rothenberg is the author of over seventy books of poetry including Poems for the Game of Silence (2000), Collaborations: Livres d’artiste 1968-2003 (2003), Poland/1931, A Seneca Journal, Vienna Blood, That Dada Strain, New Selected Poems 1970-1985 (1986), Khurbn, and most recently, A Paradise of Poets and A Book of Witness (all from New Directions). Kenneth Rexroth said: "Jerome Rothenberg is one of the truly contemporary American poets who has returned U.S. poetry to the mainstream of international modern literature. At the same time he is a true auctochthon. Only here and now could have produced him -- a swinging orgy of Martin Buber, Marcel Duchamp, Gertrude Stein, and Sitting Bull. No one writing poetry today has dug deeper into the roots of poetry." Describing his own poetry career as "an ongoing attempt to reinterpret the poetic past from the point of view of the present," Jerome Rothenberg has also edited seven major assemblages of traditional and contemporary poetry: Technicians of the Sacred (tribal and oral poetry from Africa, America, Asia, Europe, and Oceania), Shaking the Pumpkin (traditional American Indian poetry), America a Prophecy (a radical revision of the poetries of the North American continent co-edited with George Quasha), Revolution of the Word (American experimental poetry between the two world wars), A Big Jewish Book (subtitled "Poems & Other Visions of the Jews from Tribal Times to the Present"), and Poems for the Millennium (two volumes, co-edited with Pierre Joris). He has also published a number of plays and essays, has translated a wide range of poets from German and Spanish. She will read alongside French poet and performer Virgine POITRASSON, whose most recent collection, Demi-valeurs, just came out with Attente éditions!

BIOS :
ALICE NOTLEY was born in Bisbee, Arizona, on November 8, 1945, and grew up in Needles, California, in the Mohave Desert. She was educated at Barnard College and at The Writers Workshop, University of Iowa. During the late 60s and early 70s she lived a traveling poet’s life (San Francisco, Bolinas, London, Wivenhoe, Chicago) before settling on New York’s Lower East Side. For sixteen years there, she was an important force in the eclectic second generation of the so-called New York School of poetry. Notley, who now lives in Paris, is the author of more than twenty-five books of poetry including At Night the States, the double volume Close to Me and Closer . . . (The Language of Heaven) and Désamère, and How Spring Comes, which was a co-winner of the San Francisco Poetry Awardø. Her epic poem The Descent of Alette was published by Penguin in 1996, followed by Mysteries of Small Houses (1998), which was one of three finalists for the Pulitzer Prize and the winner of the Los Angeles Times Book Prize for Poetry. Notley’s long poem Disobedience won the Griffin International Prize in 2002 . In 2005 the University of Michigan Press published her book of essays on poetry, Coming After. Notley recently edited The Collected Poems of Ted Berrigan (University of California Press), with her sons Anselm Berrigan and Edmund Berrigan as co-editors. Her most recent books are Alma, or The Dead Women, from Granary Books; Grave of Light: New and Selected Poems, from Wesleyan, and winner of the Academy of American Poets’ Lenore Marshall Award; and In the Pines, from Penguin.

ALICE NOTLEY l’auteur de plus de 26 livres (recueils de poèmes, essais), notamment In The Pines (Penguin, 2007), Grave of Light: New and Selected Poems (Wesleyan, 2007), Alma, or The Dead Women (Granary, 2007), Disobedience (qui a gagné le « Griffon Award »), Coming After (Essais, Université de Michigan Press 2005), The Descent of Alette (Penguin 1996) et Mysteries of Small Houses (Penguin 1998). Née à Needles, CA, elle a fait ses études à Barnard College et à l’University of Iowa Writers’ Workshop. Pendant les années ’60-‘70, elle habitais à New York City, dans le “Lower East Side”, et faisait partie de la 2ème génération du groupe éclectique nommé le “New York School of poetry”. Elle a été nommé (et finaliste) deux fois pour le Pulitzer Prize, a gagné The San Francisco Poetry Award et LA Times Book Award ainsi que, en 2007, le Lenore Marshall Award de l’Academie de Poètes Américans.

VIRGINIE POITRASSON (née en 1975, vit à Paris), écrivain, traductrice, plasticienne et performeuse, explore les frontières entre les genres et les modes d'expression langagiers et plastiques (sons, vidéos, sérigraphie…). Elle est l'auteur d’Épisodes de la lueur (L'Atelier du Hanneton, 2004) et de Série ombragée (Propos2 éditions, 2006) et Demi-valeurs (2008 aux éditions de l’Attente). Ses textes ont été publiés en français et en anglais dans des revues littéraires en France et à l'étranger, notamment : Action poétique, Poésie-espace public (Le Bleu du ciel), Triages, Aufgabe, Upstairs at Duroc, Décharge, La Polygraphe, Ouste, Boxon, Compresse, Le Foudulire, ainsi que dans des catalogues d’exposition, comme XX primeur, consacré à la gravure contemporaine, (URDLA, centre international de l'estampe).En tant que performeuse, elle a été invitee dans de nombreux festivals en France et aux États-unis: In/Out Poetry, performance video et sonore, Théâtre de la Comédie, Saint Etienne, (2007), Expoésie, festival de poésie sonore, Périgueux (avec comme invités: John Giorno, Henri Chopin, Julien Blaine, 2006), TEXT/styles, performance bilingue, Bowery Poetry Club, New York (2005), Winds, collaboration avec la plasticienne Vicky Colombet, Haim Chanin Fine Arts gallery, New York (2004) et Les dix mots font la fête, festival de la langue française et de la francophonie, lecture, Lyon (2003), entre autres. En 2007, elle a présenté à New York (Galapagos Art Space, The Tank), Caen et Lyon, Salle d’eau, une performance (danse-vidéo-lecture) avec Olivier Gabrys (danseur chorégraphe) et Alice Robert (vidéo-actrice). Elle a été invité également au Centre d'études poétiques, ENS Lyon, à la Galerie EOF (éditions Le Bleu du ciel) et à l’Espace Agora-Tête d’or, à Lyon en 2007. Elle traduit des poètes américains comme Charles Bernstein, Lyn Hejinian, Shanxing Wang, ou Michael Palmer. Bios:

Sarah Riggs, born and raised in New York, is a poet, translator, and visual artist. She has two volumes of poetry Waterwork (Chax Press) and 28 Télégrammes (Editions de l'Attente, trad. Françoise Valéry), and is the author of Word Sightings: Poetry and Visual Media in Stevens, Bishop, and O'Hara, published by Routledge in 2002. Chain of Miniscule Decisions in the Form of a Feeling is forthcoming with Reality Street Editions. The installation of her drawings, Underwritten, in collaboration with sound, video and cuisine, took place at the galerie EOF in 2007. An integral member of the bilingual poetry collective, Double Change, & director of the multi-cultural non-profit arts organization, Tamaas. With Omar Berrada, she teaches at Columbia University in Paris, and has translated Marie Borel's “Wolftrot” (La Presse, 2006), as well as works by Etel Adnan, Oscarine Bosquet, Isabelle Garron, Jérôme Mauche, & Ryoko Sekiguchi. About Waterwork, Ann Lauterbach said: “In five stunning sequences, Sarah Riggs has created a poetics of elastic migrations that imagines the world as clusters, skeins, and motions whose innateperil is miraculously saved in the act of naming…”

Ryoko Sekiguchi began to write poetry in both Japanese and French at an early age, & in fact elements of different languages are found fused together within the same sentence in her current works. When she was eighteen she received the Tokyo Literature Prize of ‘Cahiers de la poésie contemporaine’. Her books include ‘Cassiopée Péca’ (1993, originally printed in A2-Format), ‘(com)position’ (1996—in Japanese, this title is translated), Hakkouseï Diapositive (2000), Calques (2001), Le monde est rond (2004) & Héliotropes (POL, 2005). Her works have also appeared in the reviews Action Poétique, Dédales, and Po&sie. Since 1997 she has lived in Paris, where she studied Art History at the Sorbonne. Three years later she completed her doctorate in Comparative Literature and Cultural Studies at the University of Tokyo. Today she teaches at various institutes including INALCO, the Paris Research Centre for Oriental Languages and Civilisations. Sekiguchi has also translated the works of Gôzô Yoshimasu, Yoko Tawada and French authors including Pierre Alferi, Anne Portugal, and Atiq Rahimi. Sekiguchi’s poetry is striking in its composition, rejecting established formats and textual dispositions, creating a visual, poetic space via the typographical composition, in the form of variedly arranged text blocks – or labyrinths of lines. Sekiguchi has received numerous grants from the Japanese Foundation for Writing Arts and the Centre National du Livre, amongst others. Her poems have been translated into English, Korean, Swedish, and Arabic. The Pompidou Centre in Paris and the Maison des Ecrivains, the New York Library and the San Francisco City University are all institutions where Sekiguchi has been invited to give readings.

Jacques SIVAN est poète et essayiste. Il vit et travaille à Paris. Co-fondateur de la revue Java, performeur dynamique, il a participé à des performances-lectures un peu partout dans le monde. Cyrille MARTINEZ est né en 1972. Connu pour ses performances de poésies basées sur les chansons françaises. Son travail repose sur ce qu’on pourrait appeler « l’infralangue », une langue qui ne veut pas avoir l’air de dire et dit sans dire. Il joue avec des phrases creuses, vides, administratives — extraits de discours politiques hors contexte, publication de décrets ou de lois, phrases prises dans le Journal Officiel…— et les installe dans ce qui pourrait être une chanson n’en n’est pas vraiment une. Il vient de publier Sexe liberté éducation (éditions One star press / galerie Laurent Godin) avec Corinne Marchetti et Richard Dailey, et publiera L'enlèvement de Bill Clinton aux éditions 400 coups/ L'instant même en janvier 2008. Collabore au revues "Minimum rock'n'roll" et '"la Revue littéraire".

Jacques Demarcq : (né en 1946, français, vit à Paris) interroge les limites du sens et questionne les cultures. Poète, traducteur, essayiste, et agrégé de lettres modernes. Membre du collectif TXT de 1979 à 1985, correspondant de la revue d'art italienne Terzo Occhio de 1988-92, producteur à France-Culture pour les émissions "Le Pays d'Ici" et "Grand Angle" de 1990-92, éditeur de la revue Azimuts de 1993-97 et, depuis 1999, dirige avec Benoît Casas la collection "now" aux éditions Nous, Caen et contribue des traductions régulières pour artpress. Jennifer K Dick, (née en 1970, américaine de Iowa, vit à Paris), interroge les limites de la syntaxe et les frontières du genre. L'auteur de Fluorescence (University of Georgia Press, USA, 2004), Retina/Rétine (Estepa, France, 2005, trad. Rémi Bouthonnier avec images de Kate Van Houten) et Enclosures (BlazeVox Books, 2007, ebook sur http://www.blazevox.org/). Jennifer participait dans Quadriphonics, un groupe de poète-performeurs, et a également collaboré à plusieurs revues (Arsis, Colorado Review, Pegasus…), a fait un numéro spécial sur la poésie française pour www.chicagopostmodernpoetry.com et a été rédactrice en chef de Upstairs at Duroc à Paris de 1999-2004. Jean-Michel Espitallier (né en 1957, français, vit à Paris) « est un des poètes contemporains qui a le plus modifié l'image attendue de la poésie. Hacker est l'auteur de plusieurs recueils et traductions, notamment en français Fleuves et retours (trad. Jean Migrenne, Amiot-Lenganey éds, 1993) et La Rue palimpseste (trad. Michelle Noteboom (née en 1969, américaine de Michigan, vit à Paris depuis 1991) utilise le collage et le 'pop culture' à travers l'écriture comme moyens d'interroger la musicalité de la phrase, et les frontières du corps et de l'être. Poète et traductrice, elle co-dirige la série de lectures par des poètes internationales « IVY Writers ». Elle est l'auteur de Edging (Cracked Slab, 2005) qui a gagné le Heartland Poetry Prize. Elle a fait partie de Quidraphonics, un groupe qui a créé des performances et de lectures à quatre voix. Ses poèmes ont été publiés dans des nombreuses revues littéraires aux Etats-Unis et en Angleterre, notamment Aufgabe, Boston Review, Columbia Poetry Review, Verse, Fence, Slightly/West, Sentence, MiPOesias, et en France dans des revues de la poésie et de la prose anglophone Van Gogh's Ear, Pharos, et Upstairs at Duroc. Ses écrits apparaissent également dans les anthologies Short Fuse, the Global Anthology of New Fusion Poetry (aux USA) et The Moosehead Anthology X : Future Welcome (au Canada). Elle traduit de nombreux films et documentaires pour le secteur audiovisuel français, ainsi que des livres d'art et d'architecture pour monografik éditions.

Virginie Poitrasson (née en 1975, française, vit à Paris après avoir passé plusieurs années aux États-Unis, à La Nouvelle-Orléans et à New York). Écrivain, traductrice, plasticienne et performeuse, Virginie Poitrasson explore les frontières entre les genres et les modes d'expression linguistiques et plastiques (sons, vidéos, sérigraphie…). Elle est l'auteur d 'Épisodes de la lueur (L'Atelier du Hanneton, 2004) et de Série ombragée (Propos2 éditions, 2006). Auteur d'un essai sur le poète Roger Kowalski, elle a fait des études de lettres, et a poursuivi une recherche universitaire sur Valère Novarina. Elle traduit des poètes américains «postmodernes» et de l'école de L=A=N=G=U=A=G=E, comme Charles Bernstein, Lyn Hejinian, Shanxing Wang, ou Michael Palmer. Sa traduction de Slowly de Lyn Hejinian a paru en français chez Format Américain : Lentement (janvier 2006). Ces textes ont été publiés en français et en anglais dans des revues littéraires en France et à l'étranger, notamment : Aufgabe, Upstairs at Duroc, Action poétique, Triages, Décharge, La Polygraphe, Ouste, Boxon, Verso, Poésie-rencontres, ainsi que dans des catalogues d'exposition, comme XX primeur, consacré à la gravure contemporaine, (ouvrage collectif de l'URDLA, centre international de l'estampe). En 1999-2000, elle a dirigé la rubrique littéraire et artistique de Regard sur l'Est, une revue bimestrielle, spécialiste des pays de l'Est, et a également rédigé des articles pour The Village Voice (New York), et UTOPIA (guide culturel Rhône-Alpes). En 2007, elle a présenté ses textes à New York, Caen et Lyon dans une performance danse-vidéo-lecture avec Olivier Gabrys (danseur chorégraphe) et Alice Robert (vidéo-actrice). BIOS :
Frédéric Forte est né en 1973 à Toulouse, vit à Paris. Il est poète et, depuis 2005, membre de l’Oulipo. Il a publié Discographie (l’Attente, 2002), Banzuke (l’Attente, 2002), N/S avec Ian Monk (l’Attente, 2004), Opéras-minute (Théâtre Typographique, 2005), Comment(s) (l’Attente, 2006) et Potje vleesch avec Jacques Jouet, Hervé Le Tellier & Ian Monk (La Nuit Myrtide, 2007) ainsi que dans la Bibliothèque Oulipienne : Le voyage des rêves (2005), Tubes chinois (2006) et Chronopoèmes avec Jacques Jouet & Jacques Roubaud (2007). Il a récemment co-traduit avec Bénédicte Vilgrain 21 poèmes-anagrammes d’Oskar Pastior (à paraître en 2008 au Théâtre Typographique).

From New England, Susana Gardner is poet and writer living in Switzerland. She has published chapbooks Scrawl, or (from the markings of) the small her(o) (Dusie Kollektiv, 2006) and To Stand to Sea (The Tangent Press, 2006) which is presently being translated into Italian by Canterena Press, Genoa. Another chapbook, EBB PORT, is forthcoming as well as her first full-length collection entitled lapsed insel weary also with The Tangent Press. Her poetry has also appeared in several anthologies, including "131.839 slög með bilum"(131.839 keystrokes with spaces) NTAMO, as well as Not for Mothers Only, a collection of poetry by women from Fence Books. On commence notre saison par une lecture en anglais pour la revue VERSAL (Amsterdam) avec Cralan Kelder, Nicholas Manning, Heather Hartley, Prue Duggan, Anna Arov et Kai Lashly!

Amsterdam poets Cralan Kelder, Prue Duggan, Anna Arov & Kai Lashley from the Words in Here international collective of writers will read alongside Paris-based authors Nicholas Manning & Heather Hartley. This is a special event to celebrate VERSAL Magazine, an annual lit & arts mag in English coming out of the Amesterdam Anglophone community. We invite other Versal authors to come out for this event! Issues of the Magazine will be made available alongside author’s works, in part thanks to the Red Wheelbarrow, 22 rue St Paul 75004.

Bios & info: Wordsinhere Crew:

Cralan Kelder is poetry editor of Versal 5. His publishing credits include : Sundog, Fishdrum, 580 Split, and Black Bear Review. His stand-up performance style is vibrant, refreshing and challenging. Cralan will be reading from his most recent publication French Pastry (Coracle Press, Ireland, 2007, www.coracle.ie/ ). Kelder also published Lemon Road with Coracle in 2005 and participated in Coracle’s Vinyl project for installation—placing concrete versions of poetry throughout Cork, Ireland, images of which are collected in the show's catalogue.

Anna Arov (Rus/Can) is a wordsinhere curator and is on the poetry editorial team of Versal. Anna organizes and emcees Salon des Mots, a poetry show based in Utrecht, featuring local and foreign spoken word performers and musicians. And herself has performed throughout the Netherlands at various festivals and poetry podiums, as well as in Toronto, Paris and Berlin. Her published work includes Observatory, a collection of poems illustrated by Leon M. Dekker and poems in Versal. Anna’s poetry has also been exhibited in combination with street art in Rotterdam and Utrecht.

Kai Lashley writes prose, specifically short stories and ‘micro-fiction’. After receiving his BA from the University of Washington in the United States, he moved to Geneva, Switzerland and began working as a freelance writer and editor for various UN organizations. He re-contacted his Dutch roots by moving to the Netherlands in 2004. Now living in Amsterdam, he works with wordsinhere, a literary collective; one of his primary roles is as a fiction editor of Versal, the collective’s literary journal. His short story, Breach, is being published in the autumn edition of Flashquake (http://www.flashquake.org/), and has also been published in La Farola, in Spanish translation.

Prue Duggan is an Australian poet slash writer living in Amsterdam. She is currently assistant poetry and fiction editor of Versal, a http://www.wordsinhere.com/ production. Prue has performed on stages around the world and organizes and hosts “super charged poetry salon” The Open Stanza in Amsterdam. Prue’s fiction and poetry has been published in Versal, Louis Liard and will be included in the upcoming issue of Atlas. Prue Duggan may be familiar to you if you have been to Amsterdam, as she often MCs for Versal’s reading series. Funny & witty, Prue brings her own poetry to us this month!

The Parisian Duo:
Nicholas Manning is a poet and writer who teaches comparative literature at the University of Strasbourg II Marc-Bloch. His first chapbook of poems–Novaless I-XXVI –is out from Achiote Press (http://www.achiotepress.com/), 2007. Other poems, articles, translations and reviews have appeared in Verse, The Argotist, Fascicle, Free Verse, Cross Connect, BlazeVox, MiPoesias, Fiera Lingue, Cordite, FourW, Galatea, Dusie, Eratio, Pinstripe Fedora, Otoliths, Aught, EOAGH, Shampoo, etc. In 2006 he was nominated for a Pushcart Prize. In 2004 he took his MA in twentieth-century poetics from the Sorbonne (Paris IV), and from 2003-2006 held a scholarship at the Ecole normale supérieure of the rue d'Ulm. He is the creator & editor of the online poetry & poetics video magazine The Continental Review (http://www.thecontinentalreview.com/), and maintains the weblog The Newer Metaphysicals (http://www.thenewermetaphysicals.blogspot.com/)

Heather Hartley is Paris Editor of Tin House Magazine, has been awarded fellowships to St Petersburg’s SLS & won Brentano’s poetry contest. and her poems have appeared or are forthcoming in Post Road, POOL, Smartish Pace, Tin House, Mississippi Review, Upstairs at Duroc, Antietam Review, Paris-Atlantic and elsewhere. Her poetry manuscript, Knock Knock, was a finalist for the 2007 National Poetry Series. Her interview with Marjane Satrapi is forthcoming in the anthology The World Within: Writers Talk Ambition, Aesthetics, Bones . . . and her literary essay about Guillaume Apollinaire appears in Food & Booze: A Tin House Literary Feast. She's read in Paris, Amsterdam and Utrecht with VERSAL Magazine, Boston, Budapest, St. Petersburg, Russia and Charleston West Virginia, where she grew up. this summer she went to Hungary to read, & a few fun pics & details on that series can be seen at http://bardroom.com/
