Europa World of Learning Online - Updated and Expanded

For the first time subscribers may now download introductory essays. The five essays featured in the latest print edition of The Europa World of Learning are available, alongside all eight essays from the previous two editions of the book.

In addition to the regular updating of entries, a comprehensive renewal of listings for universities, deemed universities, institutes of national importance and colleges in India has been undertaken. All contact details and lists of administrative and faculty staff were included, and the accreditation status of every entry was verified.

The Regulatory and Representative Bodies section has been extended to cover all countries. It lists relevant ministries and other government bodies, organs for accreditation and quality assurance, funding bodies and other organizations of national importance in the higher education sector.

EBSCO Announces New NoveList Functionality

You will soon have the ability to simply, conveniently limit your searches directly from the NoveList home page, using radio buttons. For example, limit your searches by author, title, series or plot by clicking on the appropriate radio button and entering your search term(s) in the Find field. To view examples of the new buttons, click here.

Of course, if you would like to see all of NoveList's robust content associated with a given author, title etc., you can still enter your term(s) in the Find field without clicking on a radio button. Your results will include all of the book titles, Author Read-alikes, Recommended Reads and other articles and lists that are associated with your search term(s).

The development of this exciting enhancement was based upon requests from NoveList customers, gathered from the NoveList customer forum discussion at ALA, customer survey results and emails. EBSCO's Home Improvement Reference Center Adds Videos, New Browsing Options

Home Improvement Reference Center now includes video content, as well as a convenient A-Z browsing option. Here are some important details about these new enhancements:

Video Content:

100 videos are now included in the Home Improvement Reference Center.
The videos provide step-by-step instructions on the most common home repair projects. The page range in the citation indicates the number of steps provided in the video (e.g., p1-11, 11p indicates that there are eleven steps in the video).
Easy access to videos is provided via URLs in the citations.
The Result List now includes a Videos tab.
HIRC videos are hosted by Easy2. This means that certain videos will require the researcher to "accept" terms of use. Selecting the acceptance will take the researcher to a new window with the video.

A-Z Browse Option Convenience:

Convenient A-Z browsing navigation is now part of the Home Improvement Reference Center interface, the platform which presents the HIRC database to your users.
Searching for appropriate articles for a project is made easier via A-Z navigation.
Synonyms have been included to provide maximum results to your users.

Oxford launches Electronic Enlightenment

It is a fascinating collection of letters of the 18th Century, a searchable database of the web of correspondence between the founders of the modern world, writers, scientists, thinkers and their friends,family as well business and everyday contacts. Research materials about the notables of the period are also included.

HW Wilson enhancements and Shibboleth

July 15, 2008. The new WilsonWeb CX Edition interface offers more versatile and more incisive searching, more customization, and new tools for saving and formatting data.

H.W. Wilson today affirmed that the new WilsonWeb CX Edition meets standards for the Shibboleth System, a popular software for governing access to protected online resources.

The Shibboleth system is standards-based software for web sign-on across or within organizational boundaries. It allows sites to make informed authorization decisions for individual access to protected online resources in a privacy-preserving manner. Institutions have long been able to access WilsonWeb databases via Shibboleth authentication. The new WilsonWeb CX Edition remains compatible with Shibboleth and other popular authentication systems.

This would cover the extremes, but not attempt to "rate" each book. Would this help you meet the needs of your patrons?
