Tendo passado o trauma, apresento-vos Fruit Sands, um rapazote (que não é o Pepe...) de Oackland, California, que se dedicou ao Feedback Pop / Lo-fi / Noise Pop / Psychedelic / Whatever...
isto das etiquetas é sempre tramado, o que importa é que estes são os primeiros passos de algo que pode vir a ser GRANDE!

Muita experimentação, noise, fuzz, low-fi, sensibilidade pop, muito psicadelismo e uma dose de bom humor é o que se pode esperar desde "We Came From Our Parents" (ah e não esquecer, anúncios de pasta Colgate dos anos 80)...
Quando não se dedica a fazer CDRs manufacturados, faz cassetes...Quando nao faz cassetes edita os àlbuns no seu blog...e às vezes faz tudo ao mesmo tempo. Soundcheck de 9 a 13 de Março

Esta semana o Soundcheck pertence ao 5º e novíssimo registo dos Black Lips. O quarteto norte-americano regressa às edições com este 200 Million Thousand, o sucessor de Good Bad Not Evil de 2007. É já o segundo disco da banda com o selo da Vice Records.

Eles que dizem ser uma banda de "flower punk", mas que de flores têm muito pouco, é que o quarteto é bem conhecido pelas suas actuações em palco - ir a um concerto dos Black Lips será quase tão perigoso como assistir a um derby siciliano entre o Palermo e o Catania. Sair de lá com um pé partido já será bom (não me apeteceu fazer a piada fácil com o nome da banda), lembre-se por exemplo a pancadaria em que a banda se envolveu há não muito tempo no Porto-rio. Voltando ao que interessa, este 200 Million Thousand não foge muito ao que os rapazes da Georgia já fizeram antes - continua a existir aqui e ali um som mais sujo e umas melodias a pedir para abanar o quadril.

Não é todos os dias que se tem o prazer de destacar uma obra como a do senhor Keith Frazier aka Dead Mellotron. Um EP que passa por influências que vão ao shoegaze, noise, passando por uns toquezinhos de Tangerine Drem mais para o final, e tudo isto "à borliú"! Mas mesmo sem este factor, este é um EP tremendo, e um dos candidatos a disco do ano ( isto se algum senhor da Pitchfork disser que o é...mas isso é outra história!) Não posso dizer nada que supere a audição deste magnífico agregado de bits (sim porque não há disco per se) por isso GETIT!

quando há uns minutos o grandioso paulo sebastião me veio perguntar "o que era aquilo que estava a dar no final do programa, muito ambiental à lá 4AD", fiquei com a certeza que já tinha de certa forma, de que este dead mellotron é um músico incrível.

não há muito a dizer acerca do criador deste disco. é um jovem que reside em monroe, na louisiana, e por aí nos ficamos. mas o disco interessa por si só, por diversos motivos. logo à partida porque é mesmo um disco incrível que funde magistralmente electrónica ambiental muito melódica com distorções na melhor linhagem shoegazer. mas também, porque, imaginem, é um disco gratuito.

quando não há muito a dizer, o pouco que se diz basta. neste caso, o pouco que vos digo é isto: vão aqui e façam imediatamente download (legal, legalíssimo) do disco. aproveitem e oiçam também as outras canções que o jovem lá tem para audição. numa última sugestão, muito parva (no fundo à minha imagem), comecem a assediar a 4AD com e-mails a chamar a atenção para este menino. é que ele é um senhor.

A Rádio Universidade de Coimbra (RUC) comemora 23 anos no dia 1 de Março de 2009. Na celebração de mais um aniversário leva mais longe a ideia de abertura e estímulo à cidade, através de uma série de concertos em co-produção com algumas das suas estruturas culturais. A programação é uma proposta destas entidades na qual a RUC se revê. Pretende-se desta forma oferecer alternativas a públicos com diferentes sensibilidades e lançar as sementes de futuras colaborações com estas e outras instituições. Mantem-se em aberto a possibilidade de outros evento para além do mês de Março. The Portugals vão abrir este mês de comemorações com uma apresentação do EP Setúbal. O concerto vai ter lugar no corredor da RUC, domingo, pelas 17h. A entrada é livre. O calendário completo da programação de aniversário e a informação detalhada sobre os eventos seguem abaixo. Embora a ideia original tenha nascido em 2004, foi em Abril de 2007, que os The Portugals se transformaram num duo e começaram a ensaiar desenfreadamente, com o objectivo de gravar um primeiro ep e defender o trabalho em cima do palco. Com a canção “ Give it to me ”, chegaram pela primeira vez ás rádios (Antena 3, RUM, RUC, Rádio Radar, etc) e a convite de Henrique Amaro (Antena 3) incluíram este tema na compilação “Novos Talentos Fnac 2008”. Com realização de João Almeida, co- produziram o vídeo clip da mesma canção. Uma produção low- fi, com apenas uma handcam, que lhes valeu uma crítica muito positiva no blog do programa BrandNew da MTV (http:mtvbrandnew.weblog.com.pt) . Em Setembro do mesmo ano, lançam o primeiro ep (“Setúbal”) e dão o primeiro concerto na Junqueira, Vila do Conde, numa co-produção com a Junta de Freguesia local. O meio rural foi uma opção estética que acabou por atrair bastante público. Durante os meses de Setembro e Outubro iniciam uma mini tour nos Fórum Fnac (Porto, Braga, Coimbra, Lisboa) e por alguns bares a nível nacional (Armazém do Chá, Maus Hábitos, Cabaret Maxime, Alla Scalla, Mercado Negro, Santiago Alquimista). Já com concertos agendados para breve (Chaves, Setúbal, Évora), os The Portugals querem mostrar o seu trabalho um pouco por todo o país.

Os Capsula, vindos do continente sul americano tomaram a Europa de assalto. Com um rock’n’roll electrizante, capaz de contagiar até os mais distraidos, estes argentinos têm pisado palcos um pouco por todo o continente europeu. Agora chegou a vez de, pela primeira vez, actuarem em Portugal. Em 2007 editaram o álbum “Songs & Circuits” que foi recebido de forma extraordinária pela crítica internacional, que os catalóga de “sexy animals” pelas suas actuações ao vivo. Numa das críticas a este mesmo trabalho discográfico descrevem a sonoridade dos CAPSULA como Garage Rock para o século XXI, com reminiscências de Velvet Underground, Rolling Stones ou Stooges. Após percorrerem meio mundo com o álbum “Songs & Circuits” na bagagem, os CAPSULA durante o mês de fevereiro vão lançar o seu próximo registo “Rising Mountains”. Em Março passam por Portugal – entre o dia 4 e o dia 9 – para apresentarem ao vivo este novo disco. Quem já assistiu a um concerto ao vivo dos CAPSULA pode comprovar que eles têm imagem, atitude e respiram rock’n’roll por cada poro da pele. Certamente uma das mais estimulantes bandas do momento! Este trio é composto por Martin Guevara (voz e guitarra), Coni L (voz, baixo e projecções) e Alberto Diez (bateria).

Ghuna X é um explorador intenso das sonoridades urbanas com cariz digital. Performer que também habita o colectivo Faca Monstro (que tem agitado as noites do Porto nos últimos anos), movimentando-se entre o grime e o hip-hop não ortodoxo, com flow lento, mas pesado, do batidas e sintetizadores gritantes, que prefere chamar ”r&b com pedal duplo.” Dia 5 de Março junta-se a Ex-Peão, MC de créditos firmados nos Dealema, produtor em causa própria e cúmplice nos tentáculos de Faca Monstro, para uma performance entre o Porto e Berlim. A dupla vem à Rádio Universidade de Coimbra repetir a parceria a pretexto de mostrar o mais recente EP Rokscape, de Ghuna X, onde mostra a sua abordagem…ao rock. Este é o sétimo lançamento da editora Marvellous Tone, com edição limitada a 50 exemplares e artwork feito à mão pelo próprio. Afinal o que podemos esperar de Ghuna X e Ex-Peão? Coimbra recebe a 25 de Março, no Pavilhão Multidesportos, os Buraka Som Sistema, aqueles que são considerados "o maior fenómeno de exportação musical português do século XXI". Na comemoração do 23º aniversário da Rádio Universidade de Coimbra, a Center Stage produz o concerto que marca a estreia deste grupo em Coimbra, na apresentação do seu "Black Diamond", primeiro álbum, após o EP "From Buraka To The World". São vencedores do Best Portuguese Act, prémio da MTV, ainda nomeados duas vezes para Europe's Favorite Act, e encabeçaram listas dos melhores de 2008, para além de deixarem rasto em festivais como o Alive, Sudoeste, Rock in Rio, Roskilde, Sonar e Pantiero, do mais pequeno club ao maior palco ao ar livre. Já colaboraram com aqueles que tinham como referências, de Sinden a M.I.A., e marcam a geração que os ouve através dos novos meios. Antes de passarem por Coimbra estarão ainda no conceituado South by Southwest, no Texas, e logo a seguir a paragem é Tokyo. No por vezes errático imaginário de Ryan McPhun encontramos uma frágil figura cuja relevância é maior que a imensidão na qual permanece perdida. Ao longo da primeira faixa de Sea lion, o fundador dos Ruby Suns relata-nos a desventura de um solitário pinguim azul, que afastado da sua colónia, se encontra à deriva, ao sabor das inconstantes ondas do Pacífico Sul, o mesmo Pacífico que segundo McPhun trará ambos de volta a casa. Nascido na cidade de Ventura, California, McPhun cedo partiu para distantes paragens, rumando ao Quénia, seguindo-se a Tailândia e finalmente a Nova Zelândia. Ali conheceu Amee Robinson e juntos fundaram o projecto The Ruby Suns, inicialmente denunciando uma irreversível atracção pelo legado de Brian Wilson, tendo no entanto rapidamente evoluido para um combo tropicalista do qual nada é deixado de fora. Sea lion, o seu segundo álbum de originais, aclamado pela imprensa ao longo de 2008, cruza a pop solarenga dos Beach Boys e dos Animal Collective com os ritmos e vibrantes vocalizações da África Austral, cabendo ainda neste melting pop uma marcada componente electrónica e alguns traços de noise ou psicadelismo. Os seus concertos são marcados por uma rara efervescência, como que espontâneos exercícios de contagiante inclusão. Na noite de 26 de Março, em Coimbra, espera-se uma celebração. Nessa mesma noite, todos nós nos deixaremos levar por uma inconstante onda vinda do Pacífico Sul.
