You may have seen the photo in The News Journal, showing part of the damage of the ceiling collapse at The Everett Theatre. Here's another look. Officials from the non-profit Associated Community Talents say it will be a few months before it opens again. It's scary to think of the true tragedy it could have turned into since adults and children had been watching an Easter performance hours before.

This afternoon we heard that something may have happened with the roof at The Everett Theatre. But we didn't know what that might be. Minutes ago, we got the e-mail posted below, saying that the roof collapsed. It's hard to look at other people who are losing 2, 4, 5 lbs. a week and yet my scale is inching along. Last week, I visited St. Anne's Episcopal School in Middletown. In the hallway, I briefly ran into Harvey Zendt, the head master who is retiring at the end of the school year. His replacement, Peter Thayer (in the photo), has tough act to follow. Zendt, whom we're hoping to interview soon, will step down in June to work on international peace movements and the environment.

While roaming around Smyrna this afternoon, I heard that Willey Farms has been sold to Oaks (or Oakes, sp?) Thanks to a Townsend couple, hundreds or children and adults in Africa will receive food, books, and clothes in February. We've written about Beatrice and Michael Nkumsah in the past. We recently learned they shipped off a 40-foot container to the port of Accra in Ghana. The container will be arriving in February and the donations (some from the midstate area) will be distributed by Beatrice.
