Noted by Joe, Uncle, Sebastian, Kevin and many others, some school has decided they can enforce school policy anywhere between the students home and the school. This includes vehicle searches with a drug or gunpowder sniffing doggy.

The Willows Unified School District board of trustees has expelled a 16-year-old for having unloaded shotguns in his pickup parked just off the Willows High School campus.
The board voted 4-0 Thursday to expel junior Gary Tudesko after the weapons were discovered via scent-sniffing dogs on Oct. 26.

If the kids at that school, or family and friends of the kid expelled, have any creative stones left, within a few days or weeks that drug or gunpowder dog is going to find what it's looking for just everywhere around that school. A few simple tests would confirm what the dog will alert on.

This wasn't just zero tolerance Nazi policies. They voted to do it. It's past time to push back.

M&R tend to say that honoring peoples Second Amendment rights is helping the NRA. That is pure political bigotry, which is OK in Frisco, where gun bigots are welcome. To say Brown is a friend of the NRA or gun rights is also just silly.

The paper also famously parrots the line that all gun rights issues are brought (bought?) by the NRA. Maybe it's a good thing the Second Amendment Foundation and Allen Gura are off their radar.

Local 'open carry' in the news

The local news (and one of the better broadcasters at that) have taken notice of some people open carrying locally. Nice to see local law enforcement knows the laws, also.

In a report highlighting the "open carry" gun movement, KTVU's Lloyd LaCuesta interviewed locals who are hanging out in public, packing heat and exerting their Second Amendment right for all the world to see.

The 'open carry' advocate in this video seems to be a tad more interested in making sure the police tow the line to the law than anything else. Although that is a noble goal, I think the task of educating the public and normalizing open carry is equally if not more important.

I noticed the sidearm is being carried with an empty magazine in place. That is not required by the law and I don't open carry that way myself. Also, not handling the weapon in the officers presence, until the weapon is handed to you by the officer, seems logical and a good policy.

Had a small tiff with a neighbor three years ago. No real problems since. I would have forgotten the whole thing by now except Mrs. Ivan (a pseudonym) next door has decided to despise us forever, I guess. I find that sort of grudge holding stupid and kind of suspicious.

However, the other day we were putting fliers out to every home in the HOA when wifey dearest mentioned their doormat to me. My opinion of that family has risen a tick.

Corbin seat (very comfortable) - I still have the stock seat if you want it.

Aftermarket exaust (I think) stock stainless steel pipes.
After market billet shift and brake pedals (I think)
Stock bars and mirrors - down bars and bar end mirrors if you want them.

I'm selling it because I just don't ride it much. I bought it as a backup when my Triumph was going into the shop for extensive work. The Tiger is back and it's time for the Buell to go to a good home.

This bike is a torque monster, it runs well at highway speeds, handling is excellent, brakes are very good. The exhaust is a tad loud and it initially feels a little heavy in turns.

Now that my rear wheels are aligned to exactly one right hand index finger, second knuckle positive camber and the successful test drive indicates the rear suspension, brakes, engine timing and general tune is satisfactory I'm calling it done for the winter.

Except for the vacuum leak that revealed itself when the headlight doors wouldn't open. Nuts.

I don't have a lot of information on the study but the basic result was that people see openly carried guns as "deadly force" and threatening/fear-causing which makes it different than gays holding hands, interracial couples, or woman's bare ankles being visible. Sure, some people are fearful of gay cooties, Jews controlling the world, and their daughter dating a black guy. But it's pretty easy to point out the silliness of those types of fears. Openly carried guns are different. If they didn't have at least some real fear inducing properties they wouldn't be useful for self-defense and as a deterrent against attack. Apparently that fear inducing quality persists to some degree in most people even after repeated exposure with non-threatening people carrying the gun. It may not be rational but people are not rational. Expecting or insisting people be rational is irrational.

When you click over to read the whole thing, notice the research he did on opinions. Joe is nothing if not very thorough.

Is Yahoo censoring email?

It seems like all my email from the NRA ends up in the spam folder. Unlike other valid emails sent to spam, when I put them back in the inbox, Yahoo email doesn't pickup I want those emails.

If this is happening, I'm not saying Yahoo, Inc. is responsible. Just maybe they need to watch their people closer. Seems similar to Google ignoring gun blogs and de-listing them in the past.

San Francisco moves to curtail firearms

Gun owners are huffing and businesses fuming over a controversial new proposal to drastically reduce the number of stores in The City that can sell guns.

Since 2003, retailers hawking firearm products in San Francisco have had to apply for a special permit. The permitting process helps The City keep track of sellers and crack down on those selling to straw purchasers, officials said.

But now there are too many permits citywide — particularly in low-income neighborhoods — according to city officials and anti-firearm advocates, who have created legislation that would greatly reduce the number of stores that sell firearms and / or ammunition.

An initial proposal imposes a cap of 35 permits for each of the 11 supervisor districts — 385 total in The City. That is a more than a two-thirds reduction from the 1,097 stores currently selling firearms or ammunition citywide.

The proposal would not take away permits from businesses, but it would reduce them through attrition until there are no more than 35 per district. Also, owners would not be able to transfer the permits when they sell their stores, said Janet Clyde, a commissioner in the Office of Small Business.

The proposal might limit options for gun owners, but it would also limit firearm exposure to children, said Matt Rosen, senior director of community programs for the Youth Leadership Institute. (...) more at the source
