Speaking of Boats

That Hubby of mine is going crazy in his old age. He found a website where there is a guy who believes that a sailboat should not have an engine! Now, this might be OK for someone who knows what they are doing, but for sure it is not a good idea for my Hubby. The harbour here not only has ferries going across it, but also hosts container ships as well as a fair amount of naval vessels.
Anyway, I think that in the end, sense might prevail, as Hubby is lazy enough not to want to do the same as this guy does, and row the sailboat with a set of 12 foot oars.

Buying Cheap Boats In Florida

My Hubby was going to save a little cash, and then go down to Florida for a week using one of those florida hotel deals that are quite popular these days, and this would allow him time to scout around for a cheap boat.
As it happens, fate got in the way, and a really cheap boat came his way locally. So, he will not have the snag of sailing it up here to Canada, as it is already here. That is good, because if his boats are going to be anything like his cars, such a trip might have been the end of him.

Why Are Weekends Short, and Weeks Long?

OK, I know it is a silly question, as the obvious answer is that weekends are only 2 days long, and weeks are five. But it seems that those two days go in a few hours, yet the five business days in between go along in a slow plodding way, never fast, always with more work to look forward to, except on Fridays, of course. If I had my way, I would change it all around, and have Monday to Friday as days off, and work the two other days. Except when there was a public holiday, of course, and then I would only work one of those days.

The Home Bar

My house is not really large enough to have a home bar, but I have been thinking of knocking down the wall that separates the kitchen from the living room, and making a breakfast bar there, that could maybe double as a regular bar for when we have guests. And that way, seeing as it would be adjoining the kitchen, the extra bar faucet might come in handy as well. This in turn might save some space by allowing a single sink unit, and that way gain some space. I believe that this is called 'swings and roundabouts.' Gain on one, lose on the other.

From Van to Ferrari

I have often admired Ferrari cars, in fact, even before I knew what they were, I saw a few , especially in movies and on TV, and I thought that they are very nice to look at. But right now, I am stuck with my business, and with my Chevrolet van. Maybe I can update my van using Ferrari parts! Or at least paint it Ferrari red, and have one of those neat prancing horse shields on the side! Actually, that might be the nearest I ever get to owning a Ferrari, but, then, who knows. Maybe an older one might come my way some day.

Snow, Snow, go away.........

We had a dumping of nice wet slushy snow last night. Then there were sirens wailing because of the fender-bender accidents in the city. It amazes me how some drivers don't get it. They seem to think that they can rely on the snow being 'fixed' by the snowplow people salting it down. Yet every single year, the first snow is a 'surprise' to the snowplow people. It is as if they don't pay attention to the weather forecast. Oh, well, it will soon be OK, as we all get used to it - until then, I like to just keep off the roads.

Furniture Upgrade

My house is not new, that's for sure. If it was either really old, or for that matter really new, then I could furnish it with older styles of furniture, with decor to match, of course. But, seeing how it is just slightly old, I have to really stick to contemporary furniture for my next furniture upgrade. And I can keep the furniture I have now for using in the basement rooms that hubby has made.

Hubby and Boats

I really don't know what to think. My hubby can hardly make it up a set of steps without getting tired, and yet he seems hell-bent on getting a sailboat, and not to just sit in a marina looking like a rich dude, no, he plans to actually sail the darn thing. He thinks of a sailboat as a vehicle, rather than a toy. I dunno if he will ever grow up, after all, boats are things that kids have floating in the bathtub. We will see.

Pumping your pond

There is no real point, in my opinion, in having a pond that just sits there, with the water getting stagnant, and maybe covered with algae. The pond, as part of the general garden decor, should be a good focal point, and as a feature, one that is more of a living thing than the vegetation that surrounds it. You can get pond pumps that will make a different in this aspect, as they turn the 'dead' appearing water into a sparkling stream that adds a freshness to the overall appearance, as well as oxygenating the water to assist in maintaining aquatic health. For my own taste, I prefer a stream flowing down over rocks, rather than an actual fountain that rises up into the air.

Auto Insurance Can Be Reasonable

I guess that there are two main worries I might have with auto insurance - one is getting a good price, and two is making sure that the company I choose is a reliable one that will pay out if I have to make a claim. Of course these days things are easier, thanks to the internet. I can easily get an auto insurance quote by looking online. Then, if I wish, I can do some comparison shopping, but my own experience is that the online shopping is generally the way to go as far as pricing goes even when the product is identical to one that can be purchased locally. And of course when the product is something like auto insurance, there are no shipping fees to pay, so comparing prices just got easier.

Horses Can Be Fun, maybe?

When I see horses in movies, I always get an urge to try riding for a hobby. I would imagine that it is fairly easy to do, especially if you start off with an older horse, and work up to a younger one that has more energy. Or, maybe just keep the old horse, and later on, feed it some horse supplements or oats or whatever it is that will liven them up. Or maybe I have it wrong, maybe the supplements are just for general horse health, or to give a shiny coat. Anyway, I have the right house to get a horse, miles out in the country, surrounded by fields that can be rented really cheaply. All I need now is the time to get on with it.

Wrinkled Old Face!

My hubby definitely is showing his age. Soon, he will have more wrinkles than an old leather boot, and he will be the first to admit it. I like to play sometimes, and pull his face skin tighter, to see what he would look like when he was younger, before I knew him. Sometimes I suggest to him that he gets a face-lift, but he just laughs, and seems quite content getting old. Anyway, maybe I can persuade him to try looking up some reviews of wrinkle cream that will tighten things up a bit for him, the poor old soul, hehehe.

Cable TV Companies- Do They Know What They Are Doing?

It seems that we are employing a bunch of idiots to supply our TV service to us. We have been struggling with this for about 5 weeks now, and this might be the last chance they have. The problem seems to be that when the repair man comes, he doesn't check to see if his work is done properly. This in turn leads to more calls to make a new appointment. Then we wait on hold for hours.
Someone ought to invent a 'hold machine' that monitors the phone, and when a human comes on, it tells them to press this button and that button, that in turn sends beeps to your own equipment, setting off an alarm.
Then you could annoy everyone by selling it on TV by using an infomercial.

Selling Vehicles - Not Always Easy!

Selling vehicles is always difficult. After all, you have a good reason for selling, and it generally involves an upgrade for you. Boats, as well can be tiresome to sell. But, whether you have to sell car, sell motorhome, or sell boat, the main thing is to do some research and use whatever resources you can find. The hassle can be transferred to a professional, and you are free and clear of the problems of dealing with people who might be just trying to beat your price down, and being unpleasant as they do so. The trade-off of course, is the price obtained, but in reality, it might not be that bad. Overall, looking at the sale and adding to it your replacement purchase, you might end up ahead of the game.

Clean Air and Water

As a society, we have, in the past as well as currently, made decisions based on greed. The end result of this is that we seem to be basking in our own filth. Now, if we go rough camping, we accept that we will have to leave behind some natural human pollutants, and in such a case, there is enough space to allow natural decomposition. By if we look at a city, the waste is concentrated. So we have to be sure to allow for this. And it is not just water that carries pollutants. The air we breathe is polluted too, and we are running out of space globally to escape from this. This is why it is important in cases where we are moving air around with fans and similar things such as humidifiers and air conditioners, to be sure to have the particular device fitted with air conditioner or humidifier filters. That way, we can clean up the air, at least in small areas, and reduce the overall exposure that we have to the dirty air that surrounds us.

Business Seems Good!

It is funny that with all the talk about how things are not going so well, that I notice very little difference in my own line of work, except maybe that I am offered slightly fewer contracts. Now, that isn't to say that I am happy with the current situation, I prefer to hear on the news that things are booming, so I can think about expanding more, but for now, things are ticking over nicely.
I think that maybe it is a case that some areas of work types are affected less than others.

Life Insurance - Something to pay attention to!

When my Hubby was younger, he could get life insurance really cheaply. Now he is older, and has had one instance of his blood pressure reading being a bit high, and he is refused insurance completely by some insurers. He is able to get life insurance no medical exam required online though, so I think the thing to do is maybe spread out the load, so to speak, and maybe take out several policies, just to make things easier when, as he puts it, he 'pops off'. Now, if he had taken out insurance when he was younger, and kept up the same payments, then I think that maybe the blood pressure might not have been an issue. Moral of the story - buy your life insurance when young enough to get it at a good price, and before you start to suffer things that will cause refusal.

Communicating is getter easier every day. I can remember that it was only a few years ago that we had to pay about $5 a minute to speak to the Philippines by phone. The internet has taken over as a means of carrying information, thanks to digital data being invented. As a business tool, also, there is teleconferencing using the internet. Then there is live chat, another internet based item that has expanded from a teenage fun pastime into a useful means to pass information in a timely manner. It has made it harder for people to ignore other people, too!

Will I ever be rich?

It might be that I will never be what is considered rich. I have tried, but there always seems to be less money than there are things to spend it on.
Funny that. If I get a surprise windfall, it gets eaten up by the amount that I am behind with the bills.
I think that we tend to spend just slightly ahead of what we earn, we want things, and actually buy them before we really have the money to.
So, I am going to try decreasing my expenses a little, instead of trying all the time to increase my earnings.

Teenagers! Who needs them?

My son now has a deep voice. This took place over only a few days, really. He seems different now. More confident maybe, perhaps too full of himself, if you ask me. And soon, as a parent, I will have to no doubt deal with all the silly moods etc that are part of him growing up. Then there is the other teen stuff, like acne, for instance. Most of them get it, some of them get it bad, some it seems to almost, but not quite, miss. Now, let me see, what is the best acne treatment for him? Might be a good thing to do some research on this topic ahead of time.

Las Vegas, Anyone?

My Hubby's daughters husband (my stepson in-law!) has been visiting the US for a while, as he has relatives there. He was in Phoenix Arizona for a few days, and the weather there was totally HOT. Funny how we on the East Coast take the onset of fall as a given, yet other places not too far away are still in their summer mode. So, I think as the weather gets cooler, I might take a look at the Las Vegas vacation deals that are going on right now. I have always wanted to see the lights, and the cost can be reasonable, and you have a chance to win big time, too!

Vehicles - cheaper to have a used one?

Hubby has worked out some figures. He does that a lot. Anyway, he worked out that there is not too much in the way of savings by buying an older used vehicle. Now, it will depend on the miles that you drive, of course, and certainly it might be crazy to have a new car outside if you only do 100 miles a month. But for most of us,there is an advantage of a newer vehicle, after all, we have a warranty, the tires and exhaust are good. In other words, we just have to drive it. Oh, and wash it, of course. I washed my van a few times when I first got it, but I just don't seem to have to time recently. Perhaps that should be that I don't MAKE the time.

Hubby Needs A Garage

Hubby works on our vehicles, but always tries to get them into good shape to last through winter with only a little work being needed. He has talked in the past of building a garage, but I think that he might be better just getting one of those steel buildings that can be erected quickly, and are fireproof, so that when he is welding in there, I won't worry about the risk of fire. Unless he tries to weld a gas tank, of course. Then he won't have to work on vehicles ever again!

Do I need a program in order to lose weight?

Having a 'program' can be good, provided we don't go mad with it. After all, what is a program? I think of it as a way to focus on what I wish to do, so I stick to doing it, not like my Hubby and his sailing dinghy which was supposed to be on the lake this year, but he is now talking of next year. Might even be never. Now, my particular interest right now is to have a program of my own, consisting of the best weight loss program that I can find. Get me into shape for the party season, winter means Christmas, and functions. We have time to go places. I have to get into better shape, that's for sure.
