Yep, it's all happened now. LOVEFiLM has now incorporated Screenselect, which used to be (just about) it's main competitor in the DVD rental business.

The exotic, enchanting Cinema Paradiso is now listed on the DVD Genie website, meaning that there's even mooooooooooooooooooooooore choice for would-be DVD renters. The thing I like about Cinema Paradiso is that, on most of their packages, if you don't use up yer DVD quote in one month, you get to carry the unused DVDs over to the next month. Cool, huh? I also like the fact that they offer the second month free on a couple of packages. How weird is that?

Yes, MyMovieStream DVD rental is the latest internet provider to join the independent, incomparable internet DVD rental service that is DVD Genie (ahem, if I say so myself). MyMovieStream comes in at the just about the same price as most other DVD rental providers, but it has a nice pretty website and allows you to search by director, genre, actor, etc.

Good question. It seems that high-street DVD rentals are in freefall at the same time as internet DVD rentals are growing at a healthy rate. The market has been hit hardest by the removal of the DVD rental "window", a period post-cinema and pre-sale release when the film was only available for rental.

Celebrating two weeks of DVD Genie!

Well, DVD Genie - the internet DVD rental comparison site - is now two weeks old!

So far, AOK. We've had some excellent and really constructive feedback, and we're now looking to expand the number of providers and beef up the guidance on content.

I've also been trialling the Amazon DVD rental service from the (relative) comfort of my lamp. So far I've got through the entire first series of Curb Your Enthusiasm (funny) and The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy (amusing). The Amazon service has been impeccable thus far - prompt delivery and helpful emails keeping me up-to-date with status.

easyCinema DVD rental is next on my horizon - I'll keep you posted.

Well I must say it is a welcome change of scenery to finally be out of that lamp. I think I'm a bit claustrophobic in dark spaces and the dust played havoc with my hayfever!

So, this is my first "blog" in this world and it is only polite to let you know what it is all about...

My aim is to closely monitor the world of internet dvd rentals, starting in the UK, and to help ordinary people make sense of the minefield of information out there. I have quite a few aims in this blog and on my site to share with you:

Alerting you to any new prices, speeds, or special offers from the dvd rental providers

Providing insider news where I can get it from my other genie contacts

Debating the odd topic of importance to the industry

Getting customers to post their experiences with the dvd rental providers

Having a bit of fun!
