Many adults and even young people who never had the chance to obtain their Bachelor's Degree can now do so through various distance learning programs in an almost unlimited number of subjects. Online education can offer many advantages, especially to those where a traditional school is not an option. Still, there are some important things to keep in mind before you jump into an Online Bachelor Degree program.

Just like traditional schools, not all online bachelor degree programs are the same. There are those schools that are 'virtual' and don't have an actual physical presence. Then there are 'distance learning' variants from traditional schools. Distance learning programs from established schools have the advantage of having the same value and reputation as the school that issues the degree. This can be great if you obtain a degree from a major institution that offers an online option.

In the job market, school reputation can be an important factor in gaining interviews and competing against other job seekers. Some nationally recognized traditional schools that offer great Online Bachelor Degree programs include Adelphi University, Boston University, Berkeley College in New York , several of the UC Schools in California, Colorado State University and New York University among others. These online variants of traditional degree programs are nice in that no one will know that your "NYU" degree was gotten online. It will hold the same weight as if you lived in NYC and completed it in person. But with the added prestige of obtaining a degree from one of these schools also comes the reality that they typically are more expensive than lesser known online programs.

For that reason many people choose to pursue their Online Bachelor Degree from one of the many quality 'virtual' schools such as The University of Phoenix, Devry, Kaplan or WGU. These virtual schools offer much of the experience of the traditional schools but without the cost and often with more lax admission standards. One important factor to consider however is whether or not the institutional is accredited. Accredited institutions usually only accept course credits from other accredited schools. This can be important if you plan on pursuing a Masters Level Degree down the road. For this reason, I would definitely recommend you steer away from non-accredited programs. While they can save you money, they limit your options and might not be as respected in certain career fields.

One thing to keep in mind when considering obtaining your Bachelor Degree online is whether employers will accept the degree as readily and with as much respect as a traditional degree program. For most liberal arts related fields that are not top tier firms this usually will not be an issue. In fact, most employers will not even know your degree was achieved online. In certain fields however, it will make a difference.

Those areas of study that require hands-on practical experience as well as mandatory hours of intern or externships such as nursing and certain physical sciences might not be accepted by employers. Additionally, one should remember before one embarks on a fully online degree program that you will be missing out on many of the internship, network building and personal growth experiences that one does when in a traditional school. A great number of people get their first career job after college through internships and personal connections they made during school. This should not be downplayed.

With that said, for certain individuals an Online Bachelor Degree can be a good choice. Especially for those already working, those where funds or time preclude a regular school, or those that already have a traditional degree but want to simply learn a new subject where the reputation of the school or the benefits of a 'brick and mortar' institution are not important. Online Bachelor Degrees open up the world of higher education to a broader audience than ever before.

http://ezinearticles.com/?Should-I-Get-My-Bachelors-Degree-Online?&id=2662029

Obama Has Stated That He Wants Every Mother to Return Back to School - Free Money is Available

Many women in America have a dream of returning to school to complete their education and receive the degree they have always wanted, but cannot do so because of financial problems.

If this sounds familiar, don't worry, because a huge number of moms and women planning on going back to school are in the same situation as you. If so, then online education courses could be the choice for you, especially if you're currently working full time, or you have limited time available due to other personal commitments. Maybe you have a disability which eliminates your ability to attend traditional campus courses.

If you're stuck with one of the above listed situations, online courses may in fact be the perfect opportunity to achieve your educational goals. Many people that live with such personal restrictions are taking advantage of these programs due to the overall convenience of the process, and the lower cost as compared to traditional educational costs.

Are the courses and degrees offered online recognized and rated as highly as traditional on campus documents of completion? Probably not at this current moment in time, but as the poor economy continues to negatively effect more and more potential students ability to afford the costs of attending traditional online college campuses, the online educational degrees will become much more recognized and accepted.

These days, unless you're applying for a high level management or highly skilled position , most hiring managers only want to ensure that you have sufficient training and experience in their particular field of work. Many online courses can provide such training and access to live workshops if necessary to obtain actual hands on experience to master certain skills.

The courses can allow you to obtain the Diploma or Degree required to apply for certain jobs, as well as the ability to answer the appropriate questions during the interview process. That's basically all that's needed to get most jobs providing the applicant dresses to empress, and presents Him or Herself well enough during the interview(s).

It's a well known fact that most hiring Managers don't do much of an educational background check, but the good news is, if they do the check, you will have obtained the credentials legally. They may not be exactly what the employer was looking for, but you paid, studied, and legally obtained the credentials, and you may very well get the job based on those facts alone.

The most important thing to understand is you can learn online, and legally obtain qualifying credentials for your studies. How you choose to utilize those credentials, is totally up to you.
http://ezinearticles.com/?Online-Education-Courses-Are-Up-and-Coming&id=2436061

Online Solar Education - Assures Bright Future and Useful Knowledge

The rapid outgrowth and expansion of solar energy industry resulted in several job opportunities for the professionals trained in solar fundamentals. You'll find the best ones have similar benefits. This article will focus primarily on seven reasons these online programs really rock for most students.

As you read the list, keep in mind your favorite program or what you would like to find in an online program to assist you to get that degree finished.

The Reasons

1. Flexible Schedule

If you have started looking at online college degree programs, you already need flexibility. Attending set classes or going to a university may just not work for your schedule.

Online programs typically fall into two groups. The first have set class times but you just attend online through the internet. The second may not have any set class times, but will have ongoing discussions you have to participate in, whenever you can post a comment.

You would also turn in assignments using email and have some tests as well. Talk about convenient. This feature draws most people to masters degree online programs.

The flexibility gives working moms, single parents, and overworked dads a chance to upgrade their job and improve their income. Awesome, right?

2. Degree Choice

Online degree programs have come a long way in the past few years. You can get nearly any program online, like engineering, law, child psychology, a degree in English or creative writing. Now the more unusual your degree, the fewer schools will offer it. But you can find almost any degree out there if you look for it.

That is cool. A few years ago, you could only find a handful of programs.

3. Accreditation

This refers to a school or program that meets certain requirements set by an association to teach a quality program.
While you may not need an accredited degree for every type of degree or job, accreditation does help. You'll find schools of both types offer masters degree online programs. The accredited schools may require a bit more work, but that benefits you. You should have more job offers, or even higher paying offers.

4. School Choice

Another part of online school that rocks: tons of schools now offer great online degrees via the internet. Not just the for-profit universities and colleges, either. Big name private universities and state schools also have begun offering great options for earning that masters degree online programs.

One of the best parts of the great school choice may be in your city. If you have started a program but have some classes to finish, you may find that your school now offers those classes online. You might be able finish right away.

5. Financial Aid

Let's say you need a student loan like a Stafford or Grad/PLUS loan, or a Pell grant. You'll be glad to know these government programs and tons of scholarships also apply to Masters degree online programs.

You'll still have to apply, and qualify. You can apply for these programs to help you pay for tuition, textbooks and your expenses during school.

6. Price

Going to college, especially an advanced degree, costs money. Online programs cost money, too, and you'll pay about the same as traditional programs where you go to a classroom. One of the best parts of these masters degree online programs: you can keep you current job. While that may not seem like a benefit, you'll be able to keep earning money while you study. Having some money coming in can really help you pay for your expenses.

7. Cheap Textbooks

All right, this rocks , too. You go to school online, and now more than ever, you access textbooks online, also. Professors have started using both online textbooks, and also free or lower cost resources.

The result: you may not have to buy as many textbooks. And for the ones you do buy, you can use eBay, Amazon, Half.com, and other great sites to buy used.

http://ezinearticles.com/?7-Reasons-Masters-Degree-Online-Programs-Rock&id=2183330

Doctors Only - Are You the Doctor of the Future?

Hundreds of years ago, Hippocrates predicted that food will be medicine.

He was right. Now we know that food is medicine. Natural remedies are one of the most sought after types of information on the internet. People want to use natural foods and herbs to solve their health issues and some of them will not accept anything less. That's why doctors that have embraced nutritional advances and professions such as chiropractors, massage therapists, acupuncturists, and herbalists are doing so well in these hard times.

What Does the Future Bring Now?

Since we are already in the future when it comes to Hippocrates' prediction, it's time to look ahead once more.

First let's evaluate what is happening right now. Times are tough. People don't really want to travel anywhere unless they have to. If something is available in their own neighborhood, that's where people will get it. People are afraid that gas prices will rise once again. When they do, shipping costs will increase again.

When it comes to health, people will travel about half an hour to see a doctor, but if the choice is between two doctors, the doctor whose office is closest has the edge.

If you are a doctor or a health practitioner you'll have to draw upon clients within a 15 to 20 mile geographical radius. This is very limiting! How can you enlarge your geographical reach?

Video Medicine and TeleMedicine Has Arrived

Simple. With a video phone.

A video phone is a desk phone with a video display on it, plain and simple. A camera sits at the top of the video display and captures what is happening in the room. The closer you are to the camera, the larger you are in the picture. The images seen are in real time, and there is very little if any delay in the transmission, unlike what happens when you watch some of the YouTube videos on the net.

When someone with a video phone calls you, you see the other person clearly s soon as you pick up the phone. Similarly, they see you. This is the start of telemedicine.

Connect with Your Patients/Clients Through a Video Phone

Can you imagine the benefits? First of all, your patient will absolutely love the idea that you are available in this way. If he develops a suspicious rash but cannot make it in to the office for a few days, you can comfort him by taking a peak at it until his appointment. If she hurts her back, you can see the extent of the injury by asking her to perform a few simple orthopedic tests and watching her on the video phone for the results. The video phone can aide your diagnosis, but more than that, it could establish a deeper bond between you and your patient. You would have been there for him and her in their time of need. That alone goes a long way with patients.

Have you ever noticed that whoever has the latest technology is revered? Remember when the big screen televisions hit the market? Whoever had one was not just lucky; they were revered. The iphone was similar. And now there is telemedicine.

Another benefit is that your patients will hold you in high esteem when they talk about you. "...My doctor has video phone access. Does yours?" they might say. Everyone always wants to have a doctor who is the most technologically advanced and the has the most recent tools to work with.

Doctors who are available as many ways as possible, especially by using multimedia and telemedicine, can always win.

Getting onboard with the latest technology is easier than you can imagine.
http://ezinearticles.com/?Doctors-Only---Are-You-the-Doctor-of-the-Future?&id=2120631

Career Center eyes ‘conversion school’

LISBON - There's an educational initiative underway that's set to provide an alternative school district for Columbiana County students and help some local school districts keep more of their funding.

Edna Anderson, superintendent of the vocational school board, said the Columbiana County Vocational School Board approved a resolution to create a conversion school, which she said is similar to a charter school in many respects.

A charter school provides an alternative educational route to the traditional public school system and receives public funding, but is freed from some of the rules, regulations and statutes that apply to normal public schools. Charter schools are held accountable by their own set of educational standards.

Anderson said the Columbiana County Career and Technical Center (CCCTC) was asked by a number of its partner school districts to look into the creation of the conversion school.

She said the conversion school will initially be housed at the CCCTC and students who attend the school will have some of the funds dedicated to their education returned to their home school district, rather than having those funds go to the private or online school they attended as an alternative.

"The purposes of this is to be able to better serve Columbiana County students and to be able to bring dollars back to county school districts that were being lost by students going to online or private schools," Anderson said.

She said some guidelines and regulations for how the school will operate are currently being developed by an attorney familiar with setting up conversation and charter schools, but that the school could potentially offer classes for grades kindergarten through twelfth. She said she expects the school to focus mainly on the high school grades, and that it will provide an opportunity for students to do things their home district's do not currently offer. She said it also may offer the opportunity to do other things more cost efficiently.

"This is about having kids begin to think differently about education," Anderson said. "It's even more than out of the box, because when you think of a box, you think of the bricks and mortar of a school building. We need to think of a box with no sides, bottom or top."

Some of the new ideas Anderson said the school could offer is an Reserve Officers' Training Corps (ROTC) that includes all four branches

of service and offering expanded advanced placement courses. She said she is looking into grants, especially related to the ROTC idea.

Anderson also said the school will likely offer some online courses, and projects that harness the new technology and ways that today's students enjoy learning.

"We're still dreaming of the possibilities, they're not all planned yet," she said.

Anderson said the project also provides a way to begin the process of doing something different to attract new types of grants and create new possibilities for Columbiana County students. She said she will be visiting with administrators of other types of schools throughout the state to gain ideas about how to best utilize the proposed school.

Partner districts that have expressed an interest in participating in the conversion school include Beaver Local, Columbiana, Leetonia, Southern, United and Wellsville. Although not a partner district, Salem has also expressed an interest in participating.

"I'm really excited to have so many of my college in the county participate in this venture. It has the potential to be extraordinarily positive for kids today and beyond."
http://www.salemnews.net/page/content.detail/id/511108.html

JPS recruits homeschoolers for online classes

That might sound fun to some and frightening to others, but Jackson Public Schools is one of 12 school districts in the state that is trying it out.

The district received a seat-time waiver from the Michigan Department of Education last May to allow some of its students -- up to 150 -- to take as many online classes outside of school as they wish.

Administrators have not encouraged any of the district's own high schoolers to take more online courses outside school but recruited about 10 homeschoolers to enroll in the district to take online electives.

Students in Michigan are required to take at least one online course or online learning experience to graduate.

There is no limit to the number of online classes students can take at school during regular hours. But students cannot take more than two classes per semester outside school in place of regular hours, a rule Jackson has had waived.

The waivers are an effort to challenge the traditional school structure and create new methods of individualized learning, said MaryAlice Galloway, senior adviser to the chief academic officer at the Department of Education.

Districts that applied for waivers had varying proposals. Jackson wanted to target the area's homeschool students to offer them access to more classes and bump up its own student head count so the district could get more state aid.

Some districts used their waivers to stem overcrowding, while others targeted students such as teen parents, dropouts and those who work to support their family -- groups Jackson Superintendent Dan Evans said he will consider reaching.

``We're not booming yet, but we do see the future in these programs,'' Evans said.

About five of the 10 homeschoolers who enrolled in the fall are still taking online courses, officials said. A certified teacher from the district serves as a mentor and supervises students' progress.

Jackson is eligible for two more years with a waiver. However, it must be reapproved each year by the state after the district reports effectiveness data.

``There are some kids who breeze through school and just love it, and there are other kids who are bored sick and don't necessarily enjoy the traditional environment,'' said Jamey Fitzpatrick, president of Michigan Virtual University.

``We're starting to see some very creative opportunities unfold for kids.''

http://www.mlive.com/news/citpat/index.ssf?/base/news-27/1231945517174890.xml&coll=3

Board wants new vocational school

DANVERS — Proponents of the North Shore's vocational schools' merger favor a new building instead of a fixer-upper, which a study says wouldn't save much money, anyway.

The project would combine Essex Agricultural and North Shore technical high schools, and possibly the Peabody High vocational program, into a single, 1,400-student school on the north side of Route 62 in the Hathorne section of town.

To save money, proponents had considered using two old Essex Aggie buildings on the south side of Route 62. The reuse plan would have cost $125.7 million, said Selectman Dan Bennett, a Temporary Oversight Board member.

Meanwhile, a single, 335,000- square-foot school and other projects would be slightly more expensive at $128.1 million. Both figures are below an earlier $140 million estimate.

In addition, renovated buildings would be less energy-efficient and could come with a lot of unknowns that could drive up the cost.

"Whenever you get into reusing or renovating buildings, you get into the unforeseen," Bennett said.

Town Manager Wayne Marquis, the board's chairman, expects the project to be pared down to $125 million. Architects saved money in the proposed new building by eliminating a glass entryway, putting classrooms on both sides of corridors, and trimming the size of the auditorium and field house, Bennett said.

The original reuse plan would have spread the school across Route 62, as it is now, presenting a safety issue, Bennett said, as students would still have to cross the busy road. That plan would also require two libraries and two cafeterias.

There will be some renovation as Smith Hall, the administration building, will be spared, Marquis said.

Bennett said he hopes the state approves the plan in March, in time to bring a cost estimate to voters in 16 North Shore communities.
http://www.salemnews.com/punews/local_story_022233250.html

LeTourneau ranks among top five for online education

A Houston-based college review group rated LeTourneau University among the nation's top five online colleges and universities.

Online Education Database, a for-profit organization that reviews programs that colleges offer, rated online schools based on acceptance rates, financial aid, graduation rate, peer Web citations, retention rate, scholarly citations, student-faculty ratio and years of accreditation.

LeTourneau President Dale A. and special-interest payoffs - that accompany almost anything that government does."

The commission recommends greater investment in higher education by the state, based on the undeniable fact that Maryland's investment in higher education has historically been well below that of many competing states, relative to Maryland's wealth and to the needs of its knowledge-based economy.

The notion that we are spending too much on educating "them" has been around for several centuries, although one might have hoped that it had been put to rest by the indubitable success of the 1862 Morrill Land-Grant Colleges Act, the law that triggered the development of many of our great public universities.

In the words of Jonathan Baldwin Turner, the education reformer whose ideas spawned the law, the act was intended "to promote the liberal and practical education of the industrial classes" (who were the 19th Century's "them").
http://www.baltimoresun.com/news/opinion/letters/bal-ed.le.letters21d10dec21,0,2422769.story

Best Practices in Online Education

How Using CLEP Study Guides Can Help

Adequate preparation is the key for successful performance on any CLEP test. Solid study practices along with the relevant resource materials can make all the difference. Choosing CLEP study materials wisely can provide students with the edge they need to ace the test. Some may be surprised to learn there is more than one study guide for CLEP from which to choose, however.

Becoming familiar with the various CLEP study guides simplifies identifying the best resource for your needs. Finding the best materials is a matter of study habits and the CLEP test for which you need to prepare.

The basics of CLEP study

The most basic level of CLEP study is becoming familiar with the test format. Making use of sampler testing software makes this a fairly simple matter. The practice software allows students to experience how the test is set up and gain familiarity with the types of questions to expect.

While this option is beneficial to anyone preparing for the test, the software can also be helpful to those trying to decide whether or not to pursue testing.

The selection of CLEP study guides

There are two basic study guides for CLEP from which to choose; comprehensive and subject-specific CLEP study guides.

The comprehensive study guide for CLEP is updated as changes are made to the test. It includes example questions and answers for all available exams. In addition, the comprehensive study guide for CLEP includes test-taking pointers and information on obtaining credit for the exam. This guide can be of benefit to students needing to prepare for multiple tests or to gain a deeper understanding of the testing program.

The subject-specific study guides for CLEP, on the other hand, include the same information for a specific test as may be found in the comprehensive study guide for CLEP. A test outline and sample Q & A are included, but with these texts, students can focus solely upon the topic at hand. The subject-specific guides may be a better choice for those planning to take a single test or those who have taken the exam for other subjects and are familiar with the procedure.

Wayne Hemrick is dedicated to higher education. In this article he writes about clep study guides.

Article Source: http://EzineArticles.com/?expert=Wayne_Hemrick

Parents, Students Reconsider Vocational Education

In the basement workshop of Parkway West Career and Technology Center, Zack O'Connell takes a blow torch to a piece of metal.

He enjoys turning the metal from gray to orange, and watching it slowly separate until the new piece drops to the floor with a thud.

His grandmother is just glad that the work probably will land O'Connell, 16, a well-paying job without burdensome college spending.

"I know a lot of college students who have gone ... for four years and they end up working at restaurants or in retail," said Sharon Palitti of Coraopolis. "I think it's a good idea for Zack to go into a trade, especially because he's good at it."

Welding is new this year at Parkway West in North Fayette, one of several such schools trying to keep up with the rapid evolution of the business world. Once known as vocational-technical schools and regarded as a last resort for students without potential, these career schools want to be seen as the best chance to prepare students for a changing economy and close the country's employment gap.

Despite unemployment rates at a five-year high, a lack of skilled workers is costing U.S. companies billions. Pittsburgh's tradesmen are aging, too, local business leaders said, and recent state reforms have forced technical schools to do more work at keeping their programs aligned with local needs.

Attempts to modernize began during the past 10 years, as leaders realized they needed to integrate more technology into programs to prepare students for manufacturing jobs that had become more complex. At the same time, they've had to fight a culture that pushes students toward liberal arts colleges.

"Culturally, college equals success," said Darby L. Copeland, Parkway West's assistant director. "A lot of traditional high schools pride themselves on how many students are college-bound. But what we don't hear about is five years after that."

Welding is one of three programs the school has added in four years. It had welding about 20 years ago, but cut it because of low enrollment, Copeland said. Now, with the work force nearing retirement, welding is on the state's list of high-priority occupations.

While about a fifth of all occupations need a four-year college degree, a quarter need a two-year degree, according to the Three Rivers Workforce Investment Board.

Regardless, some families can be appalled at the idea of their children choosing a technical school, and often fight to keep their children from doing so, technical school educators said.

At the four regional technical schools in Allegheny County, students are bused from their home districts for part of the day. McKeesport Area and Pittsburgh run their own technical schools. Transportation requirements can limit students' ability to experiment, sending students to a regional school means less money for the local school and high-stakes testing makes administrators reluctant to let their students go elsewhere, educators said.

"There's not much incentive to push a student to a career and technical center," said Ron Painter, the work force investment board's CEO. "I think they've got to re-examine what they're offering (to) get students into practical applications of what they're learning."

Painter worked with officials at A.W. Beattie Career Center in McCandless last year to examine how well their course offerings matched the needs of local business. The school's board required the study before it would start a $21.6 million renovation.

The school needs to built, in part, to give programs the space and capability to keep up with technology, director Kathryn Ingram said.

Painter's study found that Beattie's programs match local needs, but suggested it consider adding some that focus on entrepreneurship because of the region's growing need for managers.

The state has tried to increase accountability standards in technical schools by implementing a five-year plan in 2005. It mandated broader academic goals and offered money to improve technology.

It mandated semi-annual meetings with local business leaders to ensure relevant programs, something that not all the schools in the area were doing, said Julie Stewart, executive director for career and technical education for Pittsburgh Public Schools.

"They didn't have to," she said. "They were just considering the status quo."

Stewart, who previously held a similar position in McKeesport, proposes that the city district streamline its career programs into academies, designed to target different fields in local demand. That would be coupled with career education starting in third grade, something educators said is lacking in most schools around the county.

Students need guidance by at least middle school so they know what jobs they like and how to prepare for them, educators said. Palitti helped persuade her grandson to take welding because she had an old friend who made a good living as a boilermaker, but that type of story is becoming increasingly rare, Stewart said.

"Now schools have to do some of that work because the jobs out there, the careers that students can pursue have changed so much," she said. "Oftentimes, families aren't aware of the careers or how to pursue those types of jobs that will be available in the 21st century. ... It's just been a big change (throughout) career and technical education."
http://www.redorbit.com/news/education/1552563/parents_students_reconsider_vocational_education/

Photogarphy of the paranormal

GHOST, SEANCES, levitation, auras, ectoplasm ... extraordinary photographs of these and other paranormal phenomena are on display in an exhibition devoted to the historical intersections between photography and the once wildly popular interest in spiritualism.

"The Perfect Medium: Photography and the Occult" brings together some 120 pnotographs culled from public and private archives throughout Europe and North America focusing primarily on the period from the 1860s through World War II, when occult and paranormal phenomena were a hot topic of debate and both supporters and skeptics summoned photographs as evidence. Approaching the material from a historical perspective, "Medium" presents the photographs on their own terms, without authoritative Comment as to their veracity.

The Spiritualist Movement, which began in the 1850s, was founded on the belief that the human spirit exists beyond the body and that the spirits of the dead can--and do--communicate with the living. The first photographer to produce and market spirit photographs was William H. Mumler, who opened a studio in Boston in the early 1860s, where he photographed clients accompanied by ghostly images of deceased friends and relatives. Mumler perhaps is best known lot his portrait of Mary Todd Lincoln, who appears with the spirit of her martyred husband, Pres. Abraham Lincoln, hovering just behind her, hands reassuringly on her shoulder.

Included in the exhibition will be Mumler's portrait of Fanny Conant, a well-known Boston medium, who appears in the photograph with her control spirit, Vashti. Vashti was said to be the daughter of an Indian chief who was slain, along with her father, in the Yellowstone Massacre of 1861. During and after the Civil War, the apparitions of Native Americans often appeared in photographs or were called on at seances, as many spiritualists regarded them as figures of reconciliation and forgiveness.

As the Spiritualist movement gained momentum in the late 19th century, spirit photography became a hotly debated topic, attracting the attention of major intellectual figures, including psychologist William James, scientists Alfred Russell Wallace and Charles Richet, and author Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, the latter best known for his tales of Sherlock Holmes.

"The Perfect Medium" is organized in three sections, emphasizing the different roles photography has played in its encounters with the occult. The first section is devoted to photographs of ghosts or spirits, beginning in the 1860s with the work of Mumler in Boston, Frederick Hudson in London, and Edouard Isidore Buguet in Paris. This first phase of spirit photography essentially was commercial, and marked by several well-publicized court trials.

As is often the case with spiritualist phenomena, the most intense interest in spirit photography has followed periods of war, when victims' families were willing to do anything to have one last contact with their loved ones. This was particularly true in the United States after the Civil War and in France following the war of 1870 and the Paris Commune. The millions of deaths during World War I also gave rise to a strong revival of spirit photography in Europe.

The second section deals with photographs documenting seances and the activities of mediums. Unlike images of spirits or emanations, these photos record manifestations visible to the naked eye, capturing what an observer at the scene actually might have seen. Included are photographs of seances, experiments with telekinesis, levitation, and the production of ectoplasm, a mucous-like substance believed to be a visible materialization of the spirit world.

The photographs feature mediums active in the first decades of the 20th century, such as the Italian Eusapia Paladino, whose seances were documented thoroughly by leading scientists and intellectuals including Henri Bergson, Camille Flammarion, and Pierre and Marie Curie. At this time, scientific interest in mediums was prompted, to some extent, by neurologist Jean-Martin Charcot's research on hysteria and Sigmund Freud's investigations into the unconscious.

However, as advances in the fields of pathology and dynamic psychology were made in the 1920s and 1930s, this interest waned, loosening the ties that had bound photography, occultism, and the paranormal at the turn of the century.

The third section of the exhibition includes photographs of vital forces or fluids that were believed to emanate from the body of the medium. These forces--which also included thoughts, feelings, and dreams--often were captured directly on the photographic plate, without the use of a camera.

In France, Hyppolyte Baraduc, Louis Darget, and Jules-Bernard Luys sought to photograph their own thoughts and mental energy by placing their fingers or foreheads on the sensitized plates. Research into radioactivity and the discovery of X-ray photography in 1896 lent some scientific legitimacy to this practice, and it continued well into the 20th century with the work of the Russian Semyon Kirlian in the 1940s and the "thought photography" of the American Ted Serios in the 1960s.
http://findarticles.com

Selecting the Best Art Colleges in USA

While selecting the Best Art College in USA, a student should first of all consider what kind of training they are interested in. Art students' equipments are also very important. The school should be able to provide latest and functional equipment for enhancement of their craft. Faculty also plays a vital role. Because there are so many different courses it might be difficult to find the right course for you. You can use these tips to help you to decide which course is best.

Accreditation

The most important step is to make sure that the college is accredited by a recognized and well known school. You can study with any other course, however employers will not regard your qualification as highly as if the college was accredited. This doesn't just mean that the quality of the course is better, but it also means that it's easier to apply for loans and grants. Most grants will not award the money to anyone that isn't at an accredited school.

Finding out whether your course is accredited is actually fairly easy. Simply phone up the financial aid office or speak to someone at the school. They will be able to tell you or find out for you. They can also tell you what the grant and loan codes for the school are. If the school pretends to not understand then you can be pretty sure that they're not accredited.

Why consider alternative learning?

Few people think about attending a course virtually or through the post when they consider going back to school. Instead most people will think
about going to a proper school to study.

Going to a bricks and mortar school is just one of the options available, there are many ways that you can actually learn from home. These are much more flexible and can be tailored to fit around your other commitments. There are lots of interior design courses which can be studied through the mail or internet. There are even classes to cover specific things such as making curtains. You should be able to study at a pace to suit you, which means you can have your class whenever you are free, not just when it is scheduled. You might also be interested in these courses if you are a more mature student and don't fancy the idea of sharing a class with lots of people young enough to be your children!

Course Material

Before you sign up to a course, and before you sign anything it is very important that you get as much information as possible about the course. Find out what it will cover, how the subjects will be taught. Also check whether there will be any chance to get hands-on experience, or whether everything will be taught in a classroom. You should be able to find this information fairly easily, however if you do have trouble then contact someone at the school. You should find that the teachers will be more than willing to talk to potential students.

The magazine writer Robert Carlton is particularly passionate about information on shower curtains and draperies. You can learn about his contributions on curtains at many different sources for curtains news.

Article Source: http://EzineArticles.com/?expert=Robert_J._Carlton

See The Differences In Conventional Education System And Online Education System

Learning abilities differ from man to man. If this can be true then why can't there remain variation in the system of imparting education itself? Isn't it also obvious? Learning abilities differ from man to man. If this can be true then why can't there remain variation in the system of imparting education itself? Isn't it also obvious? In the ancient times the process of educating people depended on a school where the single teacher/master gave lessons to the pupils on different subjects. Then gradually with the progress of the civilizations schools began to form with proper administrative systems where subjects were categorized and teachers were recruited accordingly. In this system of education a specific pattern of teaching began to be conventionalized. The process of evaluation after successful completion of the course was done through an examination system. For ages this has remained the dominant way of spreading education where the construct of the school or the institute is very specific. But with time things change as well as the concepts. The latest trend in the education system is online education where the students can enjoy utmost freedom in the process of learning. You can remain engaged in all other works including the course you want to pursue. This is the major difference between the online education and conventional education systems. It would be better to state that the whole conception of online education holds a difference in the core that separates it from conventional education. You won't have concrete classrooms in online education where you can find a bunch of students attending lectures of their respective teachers. But you will get online classrooms where there may be one-to-one communication between the instructor and the student. There can be also a group of students interacting at the same time but it is a virtual setup. Both the systems of education do have some better things to give and also some unwanted things in store. As online education bothers about your personal convenience and comfort but it cannot provide you the lively feeling of a campus. You will miss the hues and cries of campus life and lack the socializing part among the friends circle that is an integral part of traditional system of education. In the similar way you cannot exercise your own choices in the way you want to undertake learning process in the conventional schooling structure. But online education gives you every privilege to follow so. As for the degrees you get through conventional and online education systems, it is still the conventional mode that is widely recognized. But days are not far when online degrees will take the lead.
http://www.pr-usa.net/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=120161&Itemid=31

Vocational school conference names 'Man of the Year'

Marlborough - Lt. Indian now has the second largest number of engineering students in the world. English is the only medium if instructions in all engineering institutions. In a recent assessment by the United Nations, the Indian economy was rated as the sixth largest in the world and is expected to move into the fourth place by the end of this century Recent advances in scientific, industrial and technological areas, particularly in space, nuclear and missile technology, computer engineering and information science have earned India world recognition as an emerging global power.

The word "engineering" derived from the Latin word "ingeniare" means "to design" or "to create". Engineering can be defined as "the branch of science and technology concerned with the design, building, and use of engines, machines and structures" and "technology" as the "application of scientific knowledge for practical purpose, especially in industry". Engineering education in India has a long tradition, the beginning of which goes back to the year 1847. In that year was established the Thomason College of Civil Engineering at Roorkee, later to become the Roorkee University (1949), the first engineering university in the country. The development of technical education has been one of the major achievements of the post-Independence period. The creation of the All-India Council of Technical Education in 1945, and the Report of the Scientific Manpower Committee (1947) has a far reaching influence in this development.

The growth of educational facilities has been phenomenal during the last decade. The outturn of graduates in engineering doubled within a span of 10 years from about 30,000 in 1987 to 60,000 in 1996. During the same period, the outturn of polytechnic diploma holders increased from 56,560 to 95,283. In view of the large-scale proliferation of institutions, the AICTE is keen to ensure that the quality of programmes offered by them is not compromised with. It has, therefore, setup the National Board of Accreditation (NBA) which has introduced a system of accreditation of each program offered by the recognized institutions.

Civil engineering is considered to be the oldest of the main branches of engineering. Two other comparatively older branches are Mechanical and Electrical Engineering. As a result of scientific and technology breakthroughs, today new fields of engineering and technology are continually emerging. At the same time, boundaries between various branches are becoming less and less clear-cut.

Levels of Engineering Education.

Engineering and technical education is available at five levels. At the lowest level is the training in different traded offered by a large number of Industrial Training Institutes (it is) across the country. The duration and eligibility requirements vary depends upon the nature of the trade. At the next higher level are the three year diploma courses in different branches of engineering and technology available in polytechnics. The eligibility requirements for admission to diploma course is a pass in class 10 examination. In some states polytechnic offered post 10+2 diploma and post diploma course also. The first degree programmes leading to B E / B.tech degree are four year duration except Architecture (B.Arch) which needs five years to complete. The eligibility requirements for B.E (B.Tech) and B.Arch course is a pass in 10+2 examination in the science stream with mathematics as one of the combinations. The post graduate programmes leading to award of M.E/M.Tech and M.Arch degree are of 18 months duration (Three semesters). Candidates are required to take up a specialized topic in the branch of their study at the first degree level.

IIT Mumbai, IIT New Delhi and IIT Chennai offer integrated M.Tech courses of five year duration. IIT Chennai, IIT New Delhi and IIT Mumbai also offer duel degree programmes of 5 year duration in several branches. A small number of universities offer B.Tech course of three year duration mostly in branches of technology open only to B.Sc degree holders. In many universities, polytechnic diploma holders are permitted lateral entry to the second year of regular B.E / B.Tech programmes through separate entrance tests e.g Lateral Entry Engineering Test (LEET). There is also provision for Certificate holders to enter the Diploma programmes and the Diploma holders to Degree programmes. With the advent of technology and communication there are many types of MBA programs that are available worldwide: Residential MBAs, Executive MBAs, Distance learning MBAs, online MBAs etc. Executive MBAs are for those who already have more than three years of work experience. This type of MBA helps management executives to take a year's break and pursue their education. Since these students already have so much of industry experience and possession of requisite skill sets, they do not need intensive two year training. Hence most of the executive MBAs globally are for one year.

Online MBA degree programs are offered by a plethora of institutes all over the world. The benefits of an online MBA program is that one can actually study while one works. It helps one to save on time and cost that is spent on a regular MBA program. However the credibility of a full time two year MBA program is much more than an online MBA program.

There are so many B-schools and institutes that offer MBA distance education. Most of the curriculum that distance learning MBA offers is same as a traditional MBA. The only difference being that one does not have to actually attend classes and lectures. Distance learning MBA offers the advantage of acquiring an MBA degree sitting at home. This is done with the help of internet where you could actually take help from online teachers who have an industry experience. There are many students that pursue their MBA from foreign universities. The significance of MBA in today's world has grown simply because of the intense competition that each company faces. It is purely due to this significance that more and more B-schools are offering varied kinds of MBA with different electives and specializations!
http://www.ezinearticles.com

Dream Interpretation - Wisdom, Science and Religion

The superiority of the scientific method is evident when we compare the usual interpretations we find everywhere. Usually they are free interpretations, because they are based on personal opinions, with some knowledge about some aspects of the dreams.

These subjective interpretations only analyse the dream, they don't exactly translate its meaning, as the scientific method does. The scientific method of dream interpretation is an accurate translation of the dream messages. The interpreter has to translate symbols in words.

This is a specific professional translation and it has tremendous value. The knowledge we have when we exactly translate the dream messages is more than pure knowledge: it is real wisdom, because the unconscious mind that produces our dreams is wise and saintly.

It is responsible for the existence of religiosity in our psyche. In fact, it created the various existing religions, so that the human being could learn the truth from different sources, because the entire truth about our existence and the meaning of our lives is too complex. If I delayed almost 20 years to present my work to the public, it was because I had to simplify a very complicated and time-consuming translation that only intellectuals could learn, into a very simple method that anyone could understand and use everyday.

The truth though is that this part was not so difficult. The real reason for my delay was the discovery of the wild side of the human conscience, which came after continuing the research Jung abandoned, into the unknown region of the human psyche. This discovery was so important that it completely changed my life. I had to discover the cure for schizophrenia, after having to face it myself. I won the battle against this worst kind of craziness only because I obeyed the directions I was receiving from the wise unconscious mind.

Today my enemies attack me and tell me that I cannot prove that my interpretation is really correct, because their subjective interpretations seem to be correct too...

They attack me when I dare to tell them that I, the humble and insignificant writer, continued the work of the famed psychiatrist Carl Jung, and in doing so, discovered the wild anti-conscience through dream interpretation. And when I tell them that the unconscious mind is directed by God and that what I discovered also proves the existence and the sanctity of God, then the attacks are even worse.

However, the truth is that I have discovered many scientific proofs of His existence, not only by interpreting dreams but also thanks to several scientific discoveries made at the end of the last century.

These discoveries undoubtedly prove the need of a superior brain to organize the existence of life in our world and to create the various existing species, with so much diversity; besides creating the behavioural programs that allow the survival of all these species in a dangerous environment, since all animals are enemies and our planet is hostile to life in many aspects.

The wild world is dangerous and cruel, because it reflects our own cruelty, since we are wild animals too. If we want to be free and live happily, we must, first of all, eliminate the dangerous influence of the anti-conscience in our lives.

If all of my enemies would stay silent and listen to me, instead of giving me lessons and trying to show me what is really right according to their opinion, they would understand that I am really too insignificant and I would really never be able to continue the dangerous research that a psychiatrist abandoned because he was afraid of craziness, if I was alone. However, I was guided by the unconscious mind.

The real hero is the wise and saintly unconscious mind that simply chose me, out of all human beings, the insignificant writer, that had only started learning something about psychology, in order to give to the world an example of how anyone can be cured of any mental illness and become geniuses, if they precisely follow the guidance of the unconscious mind in their dreams like I did.
http://www.ezinearticles.com

Air Pressure? Feel the Weight on Your Shoulders

The weight of air resting on a given area of the Earth's surface is known as air pressure. Air pressure (or atmospheric pressure) is always greatest at sea level, where the air is at its most dense. Therefore at the top of a mountain the air is less dense and therefore the pressure is lower.

The air is composed of billions of tiny particles that are constantly moving in all directions, bouncing off whatever they encounter. These collisions constitute what is known as air pressure. The more collisions occurring within a certain area then the greater the air pressure will be.

We are completely unaware of this, but the air is constantly exerting pressure on us, on average this is 14 ¾ pounds per square inch. (1 kg per sq cm ) . Air molecules are naturally drawn towards the earth by gravity, and as a consequence the density of the air is greater near the surface of the earth. Therefore the number of molecules in a given area, the air pressure, decreases with altitude. These molecules are in constant motion and this prevents them from settling at ground level.

At sea level, standard air pressure is 1013, but typically the pressure varies between 980 and 1040 millibars (mb). As with any aspect of the atmosphere there are extremes and the highest and lowest recorded pressures are as follows:

The highest recorded atmospheric pressure, 1085.7 mb, occurred at Tonsontsengel, Mongolia, 19 December 2001.

The lowest sea level air pressure ever recorded was 870 mb in the eye of Typhoon Tip over the Pacific Ocean on October 12th 1979.
http://www.ezinearticles.com

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://reference-education.blogspot.com/2008/04/air-pressure-feel-weight-on-your.html' title='Air Pressure?
