What shall we call our summer production? That's the question that Blakedown Primary Producations is asking. We're in a dilemma, we've written our script and cast the show but we're still not sure what to call it.

We put a poll on the right hand side of the blog - you can vote on which one you would prefer.

Class 3 Football and Netball Tournament

On Friday, some children from class 3 entered a Football and a Netball Tournament that took place at our school!

There were three other schools and Blakedown did really well: The Football team did not loose a match or even let in a single goal, so they came top of the table. The Netball team won 2 games and drew 1 game. They also came top of their table, so won overall.

Well done to all that took part!

Class 2's Trip to Bishop's Wood

Class 2 went to Bishops Wood on Friday. We were learning all about houses. We saw some wonderful willow structures and we spent some time playing in them. We sat in the teepee and looked up. You can see a photograph of what we saw. We visited the Saxon house and made some shelters for some little dolls. In the afternoon we made some houses from sticks in the woods and then some brick houses using mini bricks. We had a great day and learned a lot. Hope you enjoy looking at our photographs.

Class 1 visit to Bishop's Wood

On Friday class 1 and class 2 visited Bishop's Wood as part of their 'Houses and Homes' topic. Class 1 have been studying the story of The Three Little Pig's all we so that we were able to get fully involved in the day's activities which included building houses made of straw and sticks and bricks. The houses made of bricks were so strong that the Big Bad Wolf couldn't blow them down.

Mould!

Class 4 have been growing mould! It's a bit gross, but we've been doing it for a reason. We were testing to see which area of the class room provided the best place for bread to stay fresh. Our results were slightly unexpected, so we're designing a new test to backup or disprove our previous results.

Happy Easter

Happy Easter - make sure you have a rest over the next two weeks - year 6 especially (only 5 weeks left until SATs when we get back). Don't eat too many Easter Eggs! See you on the 7th April.

Hi Joya how is your holiday going?Have you ridden an elephant yet? Also what food have you tasted ? We are missing you lots and we have almost finished our Faberge eggs. Minibeast Mania!!

In class 3 we have been doing a lot of work about Minibeasts and Habitats this half term. This has been taught mostly by Miss. Ward. It is her last day today, and to celebrate all our hard work, we were able to come to school dressed as a minibeast! A lot of work was put into our costumes (thank you parents!) and we all looked really great. We were able to show class 1 our costumes in more detail and tell them about the things which we had learned.

Skipping!

We recently had a visit from the 'Blue and White Skippers' who are part of a professional skipping team. They came to Blakedown to run a skipping workshop with Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2. It was a lot of fun and we bought some excellent new skipping ropes from them. Skipping is a great way to exercise and have fun at the same time!

Football/Netball Tournament

On Saturday, Class 4 entered a team into the football and netball tournament at Haybridge. Both teams did really well, getting to the semifinals respectively. The teams that knocked us out, went on to win the tournament too!
Both teams put in 100% effort and made all the staff and parents who were watching very proud.

Shared Reading In Class 1

Last week class 1 were really lucky to have a visit from several children from classes 3 and 4. They had come to share books with the younger children. First the older children chose a book, and then it was the turn of the younger children to choose. Everyone agreed it had been a great success, so we are hoping to make shared reading a regular feature in class 1 in the coming weeks. A big thank you to all the children from Key Stage 2 who took part.

News Flash! New School Link with The Gambia, Africa!

News just in...

We've teamed up with one of our Pyramid schools (Hagley Primary) to create some links with a school in Africa.

The school is in a place called: San Kuley Kunda, which is in the Central River area in The Gambia, Africa.

We're going to work on a plant growing project together.

Making the World a Better Place

In class 4 four people were chosen to enter a competition: Joya, Amelia, Jonathan and Calum. This was sponsered by "apple" the topic was based around "Making the world a better place". We Blakedown were also chosen to host the competition. What we had to do was make a video. We were lent 1 apple mac and some iBooks from apple. We had three other schools come to us: Bayton, Wolverly and Upper Arley. We planned our video really well and were ahead of the other schools. We decided to call our video "Small act Big impact". We acted our scenes well too. What we had to face now was the editing stage this was crucial and we didn't do very well. We were given another half day to finish it and finally we got our heads down and got on with it. Then we were invited to the Digital awards ceromony. We put together a presentation and showed our video and everybody thought it was really good.

After School Tennis

After school every Wednesday, a group of children from year 3 , 4 and 5 go to the hall and play tennis. So-far we have done forehand, backhand and volley. Each session there is a player of the week and they play the instructor!

Class 4 Maths and Literacy

In class 4 we have been doing symmetry in maths, we have learnt to do it in Horrizontal, verticall, and diagnally also how to plot points in eather 1 or 4 quadrants, witch is in co-

ordinates. We have found it really cool, we have all been moved into silver which if you don't know its great!!!

In Literacy we have been analysing stories, so far we have been through War of the Worlds, The demon Headmaster and Room 13, we have gone through and looked for V.C.O.P witch means Vocabulary, connectives, openers and punctuation, and what makes it a type of genre.

Class 4 News!

Lots of things have been happening in Class 4 recently or will be happening very soon:

1) Our Learning for Life Academy is about to start again - We have our largest selection of choices which are: "Think Quest", "Knitwits", "No Dice", "Pop Art & Riveting Reads", "It's A Mystery", "Creative Crafts Part 2", "Making the World a Better Place" and "Carry on Camping". If you want to know more about these cryptic titles visit our LFLA blog.

2) We have announced the winners of the website design competition. The winners will now take part in the ThinkQuest Challenge. It was decided that the a piece of homework would be the fairest way to decide on who would be on the team. Mr Marshall "blind" marked them, and narrowed it down to 9 possible contenders. He then spent time interviewing and managed to narrow it down to 6, with the 3 remaining finalists as reserves.

The winners are: Oliver, Harry, Angus, Joya, Eleanor and Ellie.
The runnersup: Ella, Grace and Dharani.
Honorable Mentions: Hannah, Eleanor, Ashley, Harvey, Megan, Daniel, Jonathan and Matthew.

Mr Marshall said that it was very, very hard to come to a decision and he wished that he could have a 34 person team.

3) We have a new assistant in Class 4. Mr Beck will be working in the class until the end of the summer term.
