At a recent stop in Dayton, Ohio, to promote his latest book, "Magnificent Desoluation: The Long Journey Home from the Moon", I had the opportunity to meet Apollo 11 astronaut Buzz Aldrin. The whole experience was as incredible as it was surreal. Hundreds of people had lined up at Books & Co in Dayton with their copies of the text ready to be autographed. Buzz even greeted the crowd wearing our "For All Mankind" T-shirt. Today was definitely a day to remember.

as cliche as this sounds, this year's super bowl was truly super--a great finale to a surprising season in the nfl. with so many intriguing story lines going into the game, it was hard to choose a team. kurt warner, with his inspirational path to the big leagues, simply defied expectations throughout the regular season and during the cardinals playoff run. on the opposing sideline, mike tomlin was trying to become the youngest coach to ever win the big one! and finally, as a devout ohio state fan, i have to say that santonio is my "holmes" boy. congratulations to both teams who played an amazing game. if only the lombardi trophy could be awarded to two squads.

it's the economy, stupid

the lack of transparency and oversight throughout the past eight years is so unbelievably disheartening i'm almost at a loss for words.

decisions that so dramatically effect the future of this planet have been made behind closed doors by a corrupt and powerful elite who will probably never face any sort of criminal charges for their actions.

as i reflect upon 2008, i can't help but to question the institution of democracy and its overall effectiveness in bettering the social and political pillars that are so fundamental to well-being of this country and the world...

how is it that we've toppled saddam hussein yet the geopolitical climate remains just as unstable as it was before?

how is that rampant corporate greed remained unchecked for so many years, leading to an economic crisis with profound ramifications worldwide?

our leaders should be accountable to the will of the people. yet, throughout the previous two administrations, decisions were made on our behalf to suggest otherwise.

i desperately want to believe that this country is now in better hands.
