Dungeons & Dragons Co-Creator Dies at 69

MILWAUKEE, Wis. (AP) — A sad day for fans of role-playing games: The man who co-created Dungeons & Dragons is dead.
Gary Gygax died Tuesday morning at his home in Lake Geneva, Wis. His wife Gail says the 69-year-old had been suffering from health problems for several years.
Gygax and Dave Arneson developed Dungeons & Dragons in 1974 using medieval characters and mythical creatures. The game known for its oddly shaped dice eventually was turned into video games, books and movies.
It's considered the grandfather of fantasy role-playing games and has inspired legions of adoring fans. Gygax's wife says he always enjoyed hearing from them.

Complicated Horse Emergency
Presents “Time Never Stops”, an installation / performance / musical play written and directed by Gary Gluey and Buckthorn Gaylord. The story takes place in the alternate universe of Squeem Valley which is reached by traveling through the Sparkly Protectoid. Upon entering the players will find themselves at the border of the villages of “Whispery Trickles” and “Florb”. On the chosen day, at a time deemed suitable by someone, interdimensional travelers may, should they choose to do so, attend the Mr. Most Smartest Awards of 2035, an annual celebratory competition held between the two villages where delinquent girls, mutants, lunatics, Phil Collins, Phil Collins, Phil Collins, Phil Collins, retards, demons, Phil Collins and various royalty all converge in musical play fashion in order to determine which residents of said villages are the most bestest at stuff.

Does faith require spectacle? Is self-promotion the primary goal of American society? Bobby Conn knows the answer is YES, loud and clear. He gladly embraces the most cynical hypocrisies, and eagerly awaits the opportunity to sell his soul to any passing Mephistopheles. He is a student of the motivational speaker and the self-help guru and values confidence and authority above truth and knowledge. He loves awinner, but blames himself for his own lack of success. He is a failed opportunist, a hapless victim of his own ambition. He is constantly undermined by his own ignorance and arrogance but assumes that any admission of guilt is a sign of weakness. He cannot learn from his mistakes, and interprets failure as a call for more aggressive striving. He is deluded and lost in the fantasy of his own ego, yet the pathos of his delusion arouses sympathy and is the key to his appeal. He is a walking metaphor for American culture. Chicago’s glam-rock king returns from a tour of Europe for the hometown premiere of his new rock opera.

They perform songs aboutsuchwideranging topics as: robocop, robots, robot spiders, the benefits of soap, how to kill lizardmen, dwarves, coalminers, the US postal system, falling off your skateboard, cake made from ice cream, Chinese puzzle boxes, literacy, etc, etc, etc.

Quest of the Sun Key-a few left

Quimby's got a few of the remaining Quest of the Sun Key Modules that were made for the Rollin' Hatin' show. There was a price mark up so the artists could get back the little fraction of the time and materials cost they put in to this project, and it is truly amazing. So grab one while you can it will never be reprinted-I've been told, and despite what it says in the description at Quimby's there are only three of these left at the store as I type this right now and I doubt they will be here by weeks end.

Aleks and the Drummer
Farfisa, drums and love. Miles Raymer of the Chicago Reader says, “(Deric) Criss favors Krautrock rhythms cranked up to punk-rock speeds, and (Aleks) Tomaszewska likes elaborate minor-key melodies and ethereal, abstract vocals.”

Beau Wanzer
Immensely danceable beats, minimal synth sounds and
playful analog wankery.

Mbulu (waterbabies)
The Baron of St. Louis collaborates with members of Chicago’s avant-jam band Waterbabies. Electrosynth sounds, abstract noodling, spacy reverb and African rhythms all get in a big drunken agrument and get loopy.

Triangle
Triangle began in Minnesota, with Amanda W, a Fargoan on upright bass, garage-sale keyboards and a yellow jumpsuit; Brian T on synthesizers and unloved electronics and various questionable ideas about how to make it all talk and Susan L, another Fargoan with a taste for nice BMX bikes and a happening record collection. Since, they’ve reloacated to Oakland CA, where they’ve added additional members. The Triangle ship, rolling through seas of gnarled electronics, forgotten waves off the AM dial, shanties of 70s freak Germany, and scratchy transmissions from 80s Detroit, took on a few old salts, namely Jon Otto Schroeder on music box and Mark Treise on tenor bass and Elias Reitz on percussions. They all help to bail.

the Dolphin
The Dolphin creates dynamic music based on minimal improvised structures and a growing library of sounds and loops. Recorded tracks are usually performed differently live; songs transform in color, direction, and tone. Due to the large amount of live processing that occurs, the tracks are never quite the same. The Dolphin is subject to the will of the three individual band members that are aggressively attacking each other’s sound. Tense. Upon hearing their performance at Version>06, Peregrine Kodiak commented that they sound like Konono, but it was probably just the drugs talking.
