It's not known why Paulson was making the move, or any other details of the purchase. The stake makes him BofA's fourth-largest shareholder. The New York fund manager did not report any BofA stake at the end of March.Paulson also reported new holdings in other national and regional banks, including 35 million shares of Regions Financial RF 4.82

Obama details capital gains, dividend tax plans

Sen. Barack Obama's campaign on Thursday spelled out the details of the Democratic presidential candidate’s tax plan on his website and in an op-ed piece in the Wall Street Journal.

I just wanted to note the basic proposals for capital gains and dividend tax rates here:

Families with incomes below $250,000 would pay current capital gains rates (a maximum tax of 15% on gains on assets held more than one year). Those earning more than $250,000 would face an increase -- a top rate of 20%.

The top dividend tax rate would remain the current 15% for those earning less than $250,000, but would rise to 20% for those earning above that threshold.

For single people, the tax increases above would apply to those earning more than $200,000

2008 STOCK MARKET CRASH

I believe the stock market is due for a correction. I will jump back in when the Dow hits 10,500 or less.

A technical indicator named after the famous crash of the German airship of the late 1930s. The Hindenburg omen was developed to predict the potential for a financial market crash. It is created by monitoring the number of securities that form new 52-week highs relative to the number of securities that form new 52-week lows - the number of securities must be abnormally large. This criteria is deemed to be met when both numbers are greater than 2.2% of the total number of issues that trade on the NYSE (for that specific day)Traders use an abnormally high number of 52-week highs/lows because it suggests that market participants are starting to become unsure of the market's future direction and therefore could be due for a major correction. Proponents of this indicator argue that it has been very accurate in predicting sharp sell-offs in the past and that there are few indicators that can predict a market crash as accurately.

Ford Motor Co.has about a 46 percent chance of a default within five years, according to the Z-score a mathematical formula that measures bankruptcy risk

The Z-score gives Ford a bond rating equivalent to a CCC ranking.

Moody's changed its outlook on Ford and its finance arm to negative from stable, indicating a rating downgrade is more likely over the next 12 to 18 months. Moody's now rates Ford "B3," the sixth-highest junk rating.

U.S. Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson on Friday urged Congress to back a bold plan to attack financial market weakness by buying up risky loans and said this was the best long-run hope to save taxpayer's money. "We must now take further, decisive action to fundamentally and comprehensively address the root cause of our financial system's stresses," Paulson said in a statement.

"The federal government must implement a program to remove these illiquid assets that are weighing down our financial institutions and threatening our economy," he said in prepared remarks.

"This troubled asset relief program must be properly designed and sufficiently large to have maximum impact, while including features that protect the taxpayer to the maximum extent possible," he said.
