When I realized it was going to be too short for her I decided to see if I could do a lettuce edge on a regular sewing machine rather than a folded hem. I found this tip in a Google search and it worked really well on a scrap of the fabric so I decided to go for it!

Megan didn't stop talking the entire time. "When is it going to start? How long is it going to last? Why are there so many? How do they make them?" And our favorite..."They are lasting a long time - they must haveChristienoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-21400345.post-80523694947357999292008-06-19T22:25:00.001-05:002008-06-19T22:30:15.106-05:00Solstice ~ 11 pm On a forum I visit, someone shared a link about the solstice and the "big" moon that we'd be able to see tonight. At 9:30, I checked and our moonrise was supposed to be at 9:53 pm. At 10:30, I remembered that I'd wanted to see it and ran to the back door to check out the moon. It still looked kind of neat, but there was a weird blur underneath it. I wanted to try to take a picture of it, so Christienoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-21400345.post-7532232528184414802008-06-18T20:42:00.000-05:002008-06-18T20:43:05.124-05:00My Family
Some online friends of mine pointed out this great tool you can use to make your own family bumper sticker image. Well, Megan spotted mine and wanted to color her own. So, we went to the website, she picked out everyone's bodies & heads. Then we printed it out and we set her up at the table with the markers & scissors. This is what she came up with...she's so creative :)Christienoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-21400345.post-75110389555070355042008-06-12T22:11:00.000-05:002008-06-18T22:13:29.776-05:00Molly's turn!I finally finished Molly's dress like Megan's last weekend. It ended up just being too much fabric, so I cut the bottom tier down and shortened it. I think it still twirls pretty well :) Molly loved it - Scott said that when she wore it she told everyone "Mommy sewed this dress for me." It's a little wide for her - she's a skinny minnie - I need to learn how to alter these patterns before I Christienoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-21400345.post-900274665340453692008-05-28T21:33:00.000-05:002008-05-28T21:33:51.524-05:00Peek a boo! Just a fun picture of Molly from today. This is her favorite place to hide when the girls play hide & seek in our back yard. Note that there are only 2 places to hide there, and one involves climbing into the flowerbeds which isn't really encouraged :)Christienoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-21400345.post-62243170157607386212008-05-28T21:13:00.002-05:002008-05-28T21:20:06.138-05:00Megan's Ladybug Dress
This is my latest creation for Megan...a very twirly strawberry & ladybug dress. I used a McCall's pattern and made the bodice a size 5. When she tried it on, it was huge and didn't look good at all. So I had to remake the bodice in a size 4. While I was at it, I also ended up doing the straps as ties rather than regular straps as the pattern called for. I love this combo of berries, Christienoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-21400345.post-42344039380415970832008-05-27T20:52:00.000-05:002008-05-28T20:21:16.238-05:00Fun Long Weekend! We had such a fun weekend. Having three days off was great, and I wish we could do it more often. Saturday, we just kind of hung out together around the house. While the girls napped, I went to Joann's and picked up a few things at the Memorial Day sale. I picked up a really cute planter for $7 too. When I got it home, I stuck some herbs in it and will bring it inside to keep fresh basil inChristienoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-21400345.post-85074536079914756292008-05-11T19:09:00.001-05:002008-05-11T19:16:49.914-05:00Happy Mother's Day to Me!
Scott was quite good to me this year for Mother's Day! He got me a new lens for my camera - a 50mm F1.4. All of today's photos were taken with it and I can see this one quickly becoming my favorite. It is so clear an sharp, even to look through the camera with it on. I took the photo above with no flash, and the aperture set to 1.4 - I love how the center of the markers is in focus and Christienoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-21400345.post-3566257326502458992008-05-07T20:49:00.002-05:002008-05-07T20:57:42.980-05:00Matchy-matchy
Today the girls wore new dresses that I picked up for them yesterday at the outlet mall. They loved them, and they really liked having matching shoes, too! I love the dresses on them - I can see them getting a lot of wear - aren't they cute?
In other news, I discovered today that Molly can swing herself. I put her on the swing and gave her a few pushes. Then I walked around in front of Christienoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-21400345.post-7298027668216801332008-04-26T14:02:00.001-05:002008-04-26T14:18:22.716-05:00Planting DandelionsMore from the same walk. These are the dandelions Megan picked on the walk. She took the photo while she was walking. After this one, she decided she was done and handed me the camera back. Then ran for the flower beds...
...so that she could plant her dandelions! I tried to tell her that she needed roots for them to grow, but she insisted. She worked hard to get her flower stems buried Christienoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-21400345.post-10722125584500814042008-04-26T14:00:00.001-05:002008-04-26T14:07:42.009-05:00Megan's PerspectiveThe other night, we took a walk around the block with the camera. My plan was to get some cute photos of the girls on our walk. Megan had a different idea. She commandeered the camera for herself, and took some of her own pictures. I've included a few of them here - I think we have a budding photographer on our hands!
Dandelions & Violets. We see a lot of these on our walks. And usually Christienoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-21400345.post-63175881170753883422008-03-30T20:50:00.001-05:002008-03-30T20:53:59.853-05:00Mama's got a brand new bag!
Ok, so it's a dorky title. But I'm just so darn proud of myself. I had to show off my latest creation. I made this bag all by myself! I found an awesome tutorial online and ended up with this great bag. I wasn't sure how well it would go on my first attempt, so I found some fabrics in the remnant bin at Joann's for around $5 and went to work. I am so happy with it that I can see myself Christienoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-21400345.post-998008807175084952008-03-23T21:26:00.000-05:002008-03-30T21:45:37.093-05:00Daddy's Three GirlsScott was behind the camera on Easter so we don't have a shot of him, but he did manage to capture some good photos of his three girls. I even like the one of me!

After lunch, the kids hunted for eggs. Kathy & I set up separate areas for the little ones so that they didn't get ran over, and they hunted first. Both Molly & Trevor were pretty methodical about their hunting. See an egg, pick it up, go get the next one. Till they'd either found all they could fine, or got bored!
For the older kids, we scattered about 60 eggs around the rest of the Christienoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-21400345.post-18407448602018622892008-03-23T20:56:00.000-05:002008-03-30T21:13:22.009-05:00Easter MorningWe spent the night Saturday at my parents' house so the Easter Bunny had to find us in Mercersburg. The girls were up bright & early, but we managed to hold them off till 7 or so. Their baskets were hidden around the living room as were a few other goodies. They enjoyed the morning hunt and settled down to play with their treasures for the rest of the morning till their cousins arrived.

With Molly's, I decided to make the skirt tiered, so that it would be more twirly. I think hers came out adorable.
I had planned to do the same with Megan's, but she had other plans. She wanted me to make it straight, so I did. She also wanted her straps criss-crossed in Christienoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-21400345.post-58665745917048073852008-03-15T20:34:00.001-05:002008-03-27T20:36:36.859-05:00Riding Lessons We took the girls over to the school parking lot near our house to practice riding their bikes. Megan rode a few times without her training wheels last year, so we wanted to see how it would go without them this year. She did ok, but she really needs to regain her confidence. She kept asking if we would put them back on so that it would be easier for her.

Megan loves to swing...she always has. She can get so high that sometimes it scares me - and even more so when I think that she'll probably be jumping off sometime soon! She just looks like she's flying, so happy and carefree. Whee!Christienoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-21400345.post-9184314199900325172008-03-13T21:26:00.000-05:002008-03-27T21:27:54.501-05:00Gotcha!
Megan was just racing around the yard like a crazy person and kept saying, "Try to catch me, try to catch me." She had so much energy to burn off and was having a blast just running around. I was thrilled to get such a great shot of her in all that madness - the joy on her face just brings a smile to mine!Christienoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-21400345.post-66470234999644271092008-03-10T21:22:00.000-05:002008-03-27T21:27:20.113-05:00Spring is coming!

She woke up early-ish and came in to ask me if she was 5 yet. I said of course, gave her a big hug and told her "Happy birthday". It was cold so I asked if she wanted to snuggle for a few minutes - she crawled right in and snuggled up. We talked about being 5 and she informed me that 5-year-olds don't get time outs and they always listen to their mommies andChristienoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-21400345.post-80502007844715059822008-02-23T22:59:00.001-05:002008-03-05T21:04:42.751-05:00Megan's 5th Birthday Party
We had Megan's party today at the Young Chef's Academy. She invited some friends from her class at school. They kids learned about making pizzas - they helped measure and mix up some dough, then made their pizzas.
While they baked, we sang "Happy Birthday" and she blew out her candles. Megan opened her gifts and then the pizzas were done. The kids all had a blast and Megan loved her Christienoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-21400345.post-51519128043739709722008-02-18T22:52:00.000-05:002008-03-05T21:16:21.448-05:00Sweet Sisters The girls held hands like this almost the entire way around the block. No squealing, pinching, fighting, or pushing. Just holding hands and walking. Why can't they get along this well every day?Christienoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-21400345.post-81684297780077632312008-02-18T21:52:00.001-05:002008-03-05T21:13:11.887-05:00Making Pasta
I was off work today and wanted to do something special with Megan. For a while, I'd been considering breaking out the pasta maker and decided this morning that today would be the day. So I dug out the recipe and told Megan about the plan. She was very eager to learn how we would make our very own pasta. She could barely contain herself through lunch and getting Molly down for a nap.
So, Christienoreply@blogger.com
