The Renegades Association of California Uniform Capital
Campaign (UCC) has been a huge success. “We have seen a
tremendous outpouring of support for this campaign,” said
Lesa Barker, UCC Chair, “Weʼre thankful that so may fans,
friends, family and alumni have given so generously!”

Tomorrow is May 1—to receive an original Renegades uniform
and be entered into the rafﬂe to win the new uniform prototype,
you must have your $200+ donation postmarked by May 1.

The Renegades will, however, continue to accept donations
from $7 to $777 throughout the season to offset the cost of the
new uniforms.

SAN FRANCISCO, CA (March 20, 2008) - The San Francisco Renegades Drum & Bugle Corps, the official drum and bugle corps of the city of San Francisco and a seven-time Drum Corps Associates finalist, are making a change to their look for the 2009 season with a new uniform.

While maintaining the traditions that make the Renegades a world-class performing arts group with a twist, the change is being implemented to enhance this year's show design and bring about a renewed sense of the corps’ identity.

“Everyone is very excited about the new uniforms. Our design staff has put a large amount of thought and effort into the new product, and we feel it will add to the overall performance experience for the members and the audience,” said Anne Bragstad, Renegades President.

Each new uniform costs $200, and the initial deposit is due in less than one month. Facing such a short timeline, the Renegades have announced a Uniform Capital Campaign to solicit donations from the drum corps and business community.

As a way of giving back to sponsors, the corps has established innovative “thank you” gifts: for each donation of $200 or more made by May 1, the donor can place their own personal message in each new uniform, as well as a logo-boxed original Renegades uniform. Each donor will also be entered into a raffle to win the prototype of the new uniform, to be presented at the Renegades show July 26.

The San Francisco Renegades were founded in 1996 by a small group of people that got together simply for the love of the drum corps activity. Flag work for Chinese New Year Posted!

Dia de los Muertos - January Camp Update

The corps just finished up a successful camp, where were able to play through almost nine minutes of music!!

The full musical ensemble put together our opening production, Funeral for a Friend. Written by Elton John and arranged by Key Poulan, Thom Shearer and Fred Smith, it gives a solemn and intense opening to the show.

Faces, by Earth Wind and Fire, was performed by the Brass, Percussion and Guard (work by Mark Metzger and Vince Velasquez). This up-tempo tune will put a smile on everyone’s face with its combination of virtuoso playing, hot solos and Latin flavoring.

The brass, pit and Guard, fronted by soloist Larrie Dastrup, put together the haunting and beautiful Death March, based on a traditional Mexican Funeral tune. The Brass line also got through Heat of the Day, a fast paced, multi-meter Pat Metheny tune as well as working on In the Stone in preparation for Chinese New Year, coming up in two weeks. All in all, a busy week putting together another great show for our many fans.

There are still a few spots left, but everyone should know that we are closing things down early this year. Everyone should step forward and claim their place in what promises to be a spectacular season for the Renegades.

The year of the Ox is upon us! The Renegades are ringing in the New Year by participating in the annual San Francisco Chinese New Year Parade, and we want YOU to join us! If you’ve ever been – or wanted to be - a Renegade, now is your chance!

Rehearsal will be held from noon to 3 p.m. at Treasure Island in San Francisco.

The uniform for the parade is a red long-sleeve shirt, black pants and black shoes and socks. The cost to join the Renegades for this fantastic event is only $25 and includes a free patch to commemorate your time with us! You can pay by credit card, electronic check or Paypal.

If you’ll be joining us from out of town, check the Chinese New Year web site – www.renegades.org/chinesenewyear - for music and videos of guard work for you to download and practice with before you come to rehearsal. The Renegades have also reserved a block of hotel rooms in San Francisco (check the website for more details).

After the parade, we’ll have our traditional post-parade celebration/fundraiser at Chevy’s Embarcadero. 15% of the money spent at the restaurant will be donated back to corps when you include a fund-raising flyer with your bill! (provided at the parade)

ANNOUNCE FINAL SELECTIONS FOR THEIR PROGRAM
“DÍA DE LOS MUERTOS”
Spots open in all sections

SAN FRANCISCO, CA (Dec. 8, 2008) - The San Francisco Renegades Drum & Bugle Corps, the official drum and bugle corps of the city of San Francisco and a seven-time Drum Corps Associates finalist, held their 2009 Open House December 6 and 7. At the initial corps meeting, Music Director Chris Nalls announced the selections for the corps’ 2009 production, entitled “Día de los Muertos.”

In addition to the previously announced selections - Elton John’s moving “Funeral for a Friend,” “The Heat of the Day” by Pat Metheny, and the Latin drum corps favorite “One More Time, Chuck Corea” – Nalls announced two additional pieces: the festive “Faces” by Earth, Wind & Fire, and “Amazing Grace,” a classic piece given a new twist by Renegades brass arranger Key Poulan.

The show will reflect and represent the moods of the Spanish holiday, primarily celebrated in Mexico, that gathers families and friends together to remember those who have passed on and honor their memory.

Each section spent the weekend learning show-related music and work. At the end of the Sunday rehearsal, the full corps gathered for a “show and tell,” with each section performing for the others. The drums played selected warm-ups and show music, the brass line performed “Funeral” and “Amazing Grace,” and the color guard performed nearly two full minutes of work from “Faces.”

While the turnout for the Open House was impressive, Renegades director Greg Gilman said that recruiting new members is still a priority for the corps. “With our lofty goals for the upcoming season, all sections are focused on larger membership,” he said. Gilman said that all sections still have openings, but the sections in more immediate need are snares, sopranos and “a few more guard spots.”
