Remember:
September is when the events at Tradex kick off, we will be needing lots of staff during this time. There will only be two shows to warm up with before we do Tradex’s biggest event, the motorcycle show. The rumor is that this year it will be a paid parking lot event!!! So if you’ve done the Bike show in the past you will know how busy the parking lot is, now it will be even busier. So please spread the word that we will need more housekeepers, parkers, cashiers, and security, and get your reliable friends interested in working for us.

If you received a TD1 or TD1BC with a paycheque: we’re still waiting for those forms to be handed back to us, so please fill them out and drop them off or fax them to us ASAP.

If you had a TD1 and TD1BC forms attatched to your last paycheque or this paycheque, please fill both out and return them to the office ASAP. We need those to keep paying you. If you have not recieved your most recent paycheque it means we did not recieve you TD1's. Payday is every second friday, you can come to the office to pick up your cheque after 12:00pm that day.

If you have any schedules attatched to your paycheque please call the office ASAP to confirm the shifts you have been given.

About the Upcoming Events:
I’ll take this space to briefly inform you about the upcoming eventsand what they are about.

Abbotsford Berry Festival
An annual event, which has been held on the first weekend of July since 1981. Old downtown Abbotsford becomes a street filled with entertainment, children’s events, bingo, and local craft shows. This event is put by the Abbotsford Downtown Businiess Association, and it celebrates one of the world’s best and most beautiful berry producing communities.

Pro Bull Riders
This year it will be held in the Stetson Bowl at the Cloverdale Rodeo and Exhibition grounds. Expect this to be a big and busy event, as we are providing parking, parking cashiers, beer ticket cashiers, and first aid attendants. The PBR is busy travelling all over Canada bringing professional bull riders to many different cities.

We are sad to announce that Melanie has departed from our team, she is no longer the general manager of Medallion. She we be missed.

Well I guess most of you are aware that Melanie has decided to leave Medallion Event Specialists. She has been with us for 8 years and has been a big part in the growth of this company and will be missed by all.

Because of this, a few things will be changing, first, for those of you that send in your time sheets via e-mail, please send them to medsec@telus.net. I have taken over the scheduling for security and yes I will make a few mistakes. i am looking at ways to reduce the confusion and need to do constant scheduling for our regular sites so please be patient.

We do have many events coming up, starting this weekend at Tradex and Cloverdale, and just about every weekend from then on. Susan will be helping me in the office with scheduling and administration. Speaking of Susan, I WOULD LIKE TO CONGRATULATE HER AND NEIL ON THEIR ENGAGEMENT!!

I will have a position at the STO:LO site in Chilliwack available starting June 26th, if you are interested please let me know ASAP.

We will have our newsletter going again soon, in the mean time check back here for birthdays and other stuff.

Well, by now, we have been at the Cloverdale Rodeo since Thursday and we probably are already tired!!!

Special Thanks goes out to Susan who has taken care of the massive General Labour schedule for Cloverdale.

Special Thanks goes out to all who worked their butts and protected their heads during the last Tradex event. Who knew how dangerous Volleyball really was??!! Joyce – don’t you be trying to sell those pictures of Melanie as blackmail for all Team Members!! By the way, the Organizers of the Volleyball Championship emailed Vali and stated, “That all staff who worked at Tradex where awesome, from the kitchen staff, to the cleaners and the Security!!” Once again, as a Team we worked fabulous!!!!

Now for some sad news; Serene has left Medallion. Serene was an awesome Team Leader and will be missed a great deal. It is always difficult when a Member of the Family leaves! We wish you well, Serene.

CONGRATULATIONS PHOEBE: she is the first of our “Las Vegas, Baby,” Game winners. Phoebe will get first pick from the tacky souvenirs. Are you ready for the next game?? See the back side of this newsletter. This game is open to all Team Members, the prizes are rated “T” (for tacky)

TRADEX TEAM MEMBERS: If you have any names tags and earpieces at home, please send them to the office ASAP. We need to return those Name tags to Tradex; they are pricey at $12.00 per tag!!

HOUSEKEEPERS: now that the Tradex season is quiet until September it is vital that your shirts are returned to the office. It is our quarterly inventory and replacement time!!! Please return ASAP, you would hate to have us phoning, and phoning, and phoning, and phoning, and phoning, and phoning, anyway you get the point.

To check out the Tradex upcoming events, you can log on to our Web site at www.medallionevents.com and link to Tradex. It is pretty quiet after the (zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz) Quilters Event. Team Members who are working the Quilters Event remember to bring LOTS of coffee!!

SECURITY: As you know Melanie is at Cloverdale and with limited amount of time during the Payroll processing week the schedules have not changed from what you received last pay. ANY and ALL changes were done VERBALLY and may not reflect in the schedule!!!! If you have very important questions call Melanie, but if it can wait until Tuesday May 23, call then. There will be more updates with regards to the SEA BIRD ISLAND schedule and staff will be notified of these by phone.

And we are off – ready or not it’s time for Cloverdale !!!!! Are you scared? Do you fully understand what this means?? I think NOT!!! It means that Team Medallion is about to start a whole new race. In a nut shell – the office will be EXTREMEMLY busy – if you need to discuss something with Melanie please make sure that it is only of an urgent matter. If it can wait, wait. Cloverdale requires approximately 100 staff members from Medallion alone. Management lives on site, the office will be closed from May 17 -22. And just to throw a wrench in – Melanie’s son is Graduating Grade 12 so she will be on very limited hours May 23-26.
Now what you really want to know is, “What about our paycheques??!!” Yes, payday lands on Cloverdale Friday May 19, so cheques will be available at Regency as of Thursday evening, May 18. Remember Regency is open from 2100-0600. Any cheques not picked up by the evening of Monday May 22, will be mailed. This payday has 4 weeks of schedules attached; there will be very minor adjustments. Let me rephrase, if you don’t work what is scheduled during Cloverdale you will receive a very nasty letter with regards to your employment.
If you know anyone who wants some extra cash, we are still looking for staff; there are carpools and a shuttle service so a vehicle is not a necessity.

And now for some fun stuff – the back of this news letter has the beginning of “Las Vegas, Baby” Remember about the tacky tourist souvenirs Melanie brought back? Well they are waiting to be won. Vancouver Court" Ruling from the Province Newspaper Vancouver, Canada (AP) -A seven year old boy was at the center of a Vancouver courtroom drama yesterday when he challenged a court ruling over who should have custody of him. The boy has a history of being beaten by his parents and the judge initially awarded custody to his aunt, in keeping with the child custody law and regulations requiring that family unity be maintained to the degree possible. The boy surprised the court when he proclaimed that his aunt beat him more than his parents and he adamantly refused to live with her. When the judge suggested that he live with his grandparents, the boy cried out that they also beat him. After considering the remainder of the immediate family and learning that domestic violence was apparently a way of life among them, the judge took the unprecedented step of allowing the boy to propose who should have custody of him. After two recesses to check legal references and confer with child welfare officials, the judge granted temporary custody to the Vancouver Canucks, whom the boy firmly believes are not capable of beating anyone.

AT&T fired President John Walter after nine months, saying he lacked intellectual leadership. He received a $26 million severance package. Perhaps it's not Walter who's lacking intelligence.
2. WITH A LITTLE HELP FROM OUR FRIENDS:
Police in Oakland, California spent two hours attempting to subdue a gunman who had barricaded himself inside his home. After firing ten tear gas canisters, officers discovered that the man was standing beside them in the police line, shouting, "Please come out and give yourself up."
3. WHAT WAS PLAN B???
An Illinois man, pretending to have a gun, kidnapped a motorist and forced him to drive to two different automated teller machines, wherein the kidnapper proceeded to withdraw money from his own bank accounts.
4. THE GETAWAY!
A man walked into a Topeka, Kansas Kwik Stop, and asked for all the money in the cash drawer. Apparently, the take was too small, so he tied up the store clerk and worked at the counter himself for three hours until police showed up and grabbed him.
5. DID I SAY THAT???
Police in Los Angeles had good luck with a robbery suspect who just couldn't control himself during a line-up. When detectives asked each man in the line-up to repeat the words: "Give me all your money or I'll shoot," the man shouted, "That's not what I said!"

8. THE GRAND FINALE
Last summer, down on Lake Isabella, located in the high desert, an hour east of Bakersfield, California, some folks, new to boating, were having a problem. No matter how hard they tried, they couldn't get their brand new 22 ft. boat going. It was very sluggish in almost every maneuver, no matter how much power was applied. After about an hour of trying to make it go, they putted to a nearby marina, thinking someone there could tell them what was wrong. A thorough topside check revealed everything in perfect working condition. The engine ran fine, the out drive went up and down, and the prop was the correct size and pitch. So, one of the marina guys jumped in the water to check underneath.

Do the words CLOVERDLE RODEO frighten you, if they don’t THEY SHOULD!!!!!!!!!! Shiver –me – timber, we are looking for a ton of staff for the Rodeo. Preparation for the Rodeo starts the beginning of May, the Event itself is May 18 – 22, and then there is the clean up which runs to the end of May. We are looking to fill a variety of positions from: landscaping, general labour, clean up crews, ticket takers, and cashiers. The hours are long, the work is hard, but if we have enough staff we can have better hours. As this is our Second year running this event, we anticipate it to run much more smoothly. Last year we had no information on what to expect. This year we know what to expect!! We will only be taking some of our Parking & Housekeeping staff to this event, as Cloverdale prefers Team Members a little more seasoned. We will once again be providing a shuttle service to get to and from the Rodeo. Please let Serene or Melanie know if you are interested, or if you know anyone who would like some extra cash!!!!

Hear yea; Hear Yea, Serene will be out of the office from April 3 – 16, she will be taking her OFA and Security Courses during those two weeks.

Hear Yea; Hear Yea, Melanie will be out of the Country from April 9 – 15, lets make your lives easier by knowing your shifts and work sites!!! Brad will be on call and we all know how much he likes that!!!

1. If they want to loan you money, tell them you just filed for bankruptcy and you could sure use some money.
2. If they start out with, "How are you today?"say, "I'm so glad you asked, because no one these days seems to care, and I have all these problems. My arthritis is acting up, my eyelashes are sore, my dog just died . . . "
3. This works great if you are male. Telemarketer: "Hi, my name is Judy and I'm with XYZ Company. " You: Wait for a second and with a real husky voice ask, "What are you wearing?"
4. Cry out in surprise, "Judy? Is that you? Oh my God! Judy, how have you been?" Hopefully, this will give Judy a few brief moments of terror as she tries to figure out where she could know you from.
5. If MCI calls trying to get you to sign up for the Family and Friends Plan, reply, in as sinister a voice as you can, "I don't have any friends, would you be my friend?"
6. If the company cleans rugs, respond: "Can you get out blood? Can you get out goat blood? How about human blood?"
7. After the Telemarketer gives his or her spiel, ask him or her to marry you. When they get all flustered, tell them that you can't just give your credit card number to a complete stranger.
8. Tell the Telemarketer that you work for the same company, and they can't sell to employees.
9. Answer the phone. As soon as you realize it is a Telemarketer, set the receiver down, scream, "Oh my God!" and then hang up.
10. Tell the Telemarketer you are busy at the moment and ask him/her if he/she will give you his/her home phone number so you can call him/her back. When the Telemarketer explains that telemarketers cannot give out their home numbers say, "I guess you don't want anyone bothering you at home, right?" The Telemarketer will agree and you say, "Me either!" Hang up.
11. Ask them to repeat everything they say, several times.
12. Tell the Telemarketer you are on "home incarceration" and ask if they could bring you some beer.
13. Ask them to fax the information to you, and make up a number.
14. Tell the Telemarketer, "Okay, I'll listen to you. But I should probably tell you, I'm not wearing any clothes."
15. Insist that the caller is really your buddy Leon, playing a joke. "Come on, Leon, cut it out! Seriously, Leon, how's your momma?"

Dave’s outstanding performance during the RV Show earned him the Best in Show. Dave stayed behind after his shift to help ‘MacGyver’ a water drainage system when the water just would not stop flowing. He would jump right in and get his feet wet to assist when the water got too high around the tent. His practical jokes and quick wit kept everyone above the water. Thanks Dave

“Dancing” Jon as he is known to other parkers entertained the masses during the Antique Show. His rather entertaining dancing and positive outlook kept everyone in the lot in high spirits even though they were cold and wet. Many comments were heard form guests and clients about the ‘Dancing guy’. Jon’s willingness to keep on smiling and go that extra mile earned him Best in Show.

Charlotte H – Housekeeping
Nothing phases this lady. She is always smiling and making others feel comfortable no matter who they are. Her great attitude makes her approachable when others need assistance. And her own quality of work is top notch. She was always first to get her hands dirty when things needed done. No amount of wax during the Collector Car show could make a car outshine her.

Thanks everyone for the Excellent job at the Boat & Sportsmen Show!! Once again we will be receiving compliments form the show management. By the way, do you know that we have included and “Option 4” to our phone system. That’s right anytime Bill (kilo 1) requests extra staff he calls 604-850-0636 and selects option 4. Give it a try see what happens.

Currently we are turning away Security Business. If you know anyone interested in obtaining part time work as Security but needs their BST please let us know. Take Serene for example, by the end of April Serene will be the newest BST OFA Team Leader. Best of luck to her as she takes her courses in the next couple weeks.

March 10 1964 Mustang sallies forth
The first Ford Mustang was produced on this day. The Mustang wasn't released to the public until April 16, 1964. However, one journalist described its unveiling as "the most sensational introduction of modern times." The Mustang was the result of Ford's desire to make a small, sporty car which was inexpensive enough to appeal to young car buyers, an increasingly important market. The Mustang was the brainchild, or at least the mouthchild, of Ford executive Lee Iacocca. "Outside the industry, Iacocca, who controlled the publicity for the car, was always considered the father of the Mustang... Within Ford, however, Don Frey, the product manager, was seen as the brains behind it." But to sell short Iacocca's impact as a salesman would be a mistake. The car's development never would have made it past the reluctant upper echelons of Ford management without Iacocca's push. Iacocca stressed the Mustang as a whole new breed of Ford: muscular, small, and young. The base price of the car was only $2,368, but buyers averaged over $1,000 of extra features. Iacocca said, "People want economy so badly they don't care how much they pay for it." Over its first two years the Mustang earned $1.1 billion in profits for Ford. Iacocca

Thanks for proving once again that Team Members really work together when there is a crunch. We have a few Members who are coping with Parental illness and Team Members who are ill. After many phone calls we all worked together so Members could be with their loved ones and to get home to get healthy. Thanks to Roger G who helped defuse a potentially bad situation and keep a Client happy. With all the changes and problems that arose in the past week, it has been the only time I have used the phrase “suck it up” twice in seven days. Have you heard the news, The Tradex staff room is expanding!!!! Finally someone heard all of our grumblings. Maybe it was when some one thought we were trying to set a new world record by seeing how many people can fit in that small of a room? Only to discover we weren’t trying to set any records, we were just trying to dry out!!!! Thanks, Bill (Kilo 1) we really do appreciate it! Can’t wait for the lockers to come. Speaking of lockers, there was pair of leather gloves and a face protector/toque taken out of the staff room last weekend. If you happened to pick these items up please return them to Jamie and Jon. They are feeling the cold without their warmies!!!

Once there was a blonde who really needed some money. She saw an ad in the newspaper for a job at an Elmo factory. She went down and applied, but the manager told her that she wouldn't want the job because it was so boring. The blonde begged him and told him she would do anything because she needed the money really bad. After long consideration the manager hired her. A few hours later the manager looked at the video-monitor showing the factory floor and saw that the conveyer belt was backed up. The manager went downstairs to find out what the problem was. When he arrived he saw the blonde was sewing marbles onto each of the Elmo’s. The manager said, ''I said to give each Elmo two test tickles!''

Hallelujah!! Hallelujah!! Hallelujah!! WE survived the Vancouver Motorcycle Show of 2006 !!! In case you didn’t know, Parking was so major we where asking for Passports for proof of citizenship from South and we were looking for Eskimo Pies from North. Hey, when you heard Melanie singing “North to Alaska” she wasn’t joking!! Then if that wasn’t enough, Mother Nature decided to send us in a torrential downpour for days on end. And with record breaking rain, she must have thought it would be funny to add Monsoon type winds for the RV Show!!

Susan Says:
To all parkers, you all did an exceptional job for the Motorcycle Show. You braved the pouring rain, freezing cold, and wind that nearly blew you off into never, never land. We received so many compliments, from Tradex Management, Show Management, Medallion Management, and guests. We even had a few Tradex and Medallion Managers (plus the Medallion president) out their directing and parking cars in the same weather us Parkers endured. You guys rock!!! Keep up the great work and thank-you everybody. Furthermore, we broke the Tradex record of cars parked in one show; we have never filled so many lots in Tradex history."

Happy New Year!!

Well as we approach the end of another year, all I can do is look back and say, “WOW, where did the time go??!!” We have seen many Members come and go many return and lots of growth in Medallion. Medallion Security transformed into the only full service event company in the lower mainland. Medallion Event Specialists emerged. Tradex renewed the contract for five more years; we survived our first Cloverdale Rodeo!! That in itself was a HUGE accomplishment for 2005. We focused more on Team Leaders and Team Members and less on Supervisors and staff – finding that this approach brought the company closer together. We grew in leaps and bounds in our non licensed departments, boasting a Team Member list of over 100!! The Medallion News ran its first edition in February and all seemed to enjoy the funny quips, interesting facts and new way of getting information to Team Members. The year end saw a new side of Management as we dressed in Christmas costume and the Food Bank donations where a success.
Thank you to all Members, without you Medallion could not have grown to achieve the success it did. We look forward to a prosperous 2006 for our valuable Team Members and for Medallion Event Specialists.

Lights by Limo Edition

WOW !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I would have to say that The Limo by Lights was a HUGE success.

Monday night as the Team Leaders where greeted by Mrs. Clause and her two Elves the smiles were abundant and the laughter genuine.

As we started the Monday night out with a few hitches, the limo had made a horrible noise so a stop at the shop was in order before we headed out. This may have put us a little behind but it was worth it to see the guys down at BC Car & Truck Rental have a few snickers at Graham’s expense. I think it may take a while for Graham to forgive me for the bright idea of dressing up. Once on the road again, Barb was our first pick up. After Barb we headed to Jeff’s house, he was much anticipating spending an evening with seven women. This was very evident by the smile on his face. Jeff greeted us with a smile and a $2 tip for being the Hostess, the Doorman, and the Chauffer. The money was given back and later donated at one of the stops we made. After Jeff, we headed to Mission to gather Susan and Joyce. At the Tim Horton’s we caused quite a stir and Mrs. Clause was asked if she could be added to some one’s Christmas list, which was quite funny. Neil dropped Suzy off and he seemed a little nervous that we may encourage her to have too much fun. Is there such a thing??? Joyce was ready for fun with her little bag of tricks!!! The Liquor looked quite yummy and I believe Barb can confirm that it was. Back to Abby where Tammy, Serene and Val awaited. Tammy, dearly nicknamed Hoppy, came without crouches but armed with a digital camera. We are expecting her to make a fortune with her blackmail pictures. As we arrived a Serene’s house, the only home where little children lived, we couldn’t miss the opportunity to go spread the joy. Serene’s children really enjoyed meeting the elves and Mrs. S; I wonder if they have written their letters yet??? Then as we arrived at Val’s we where greeted by a “hottie” who knew under the Housekeeping ensemble that we had such a looker!! Now the nickname Barbie (Benten) really applies!!! By this point the laughter was abundant, smiling faces where everywhere, especially on Jeff who was surrounded by women. Joyce and Barb were getting along smashingly thanks to the liquors. Mmmmm Maybe the coffee at Tradex needs to be spiked! Off to dinner!! Pizza was great; the gift exchange went well right up until Melanie was given her gift from the staff. I never knew you guys didn’t like me, LOL!! The light tour was awesome, the fun was even better and the company we kept was great. Overall the night flew by. Pictures are ready for viewing and there are CD’s of pictures that we can send out. Reprints will be available as well. Tammy’s pictures could be costly!!! PS who else thought Graham looked a little cranky in his suite??

Tuesday night the Food Drive Winners where off to see the lights!! Again, laughter roared loud as we picked up Roger & Sherry, Rose & Steve, Dave and Susan & Neil (thanks to Val who was unable to attend Tuesday she gave her tickets to Susan) in our costumes. After some good food, we hit the lights. A little different tour than the night before but just as much fun. Lots of chocolate and cookies where shared. Lots of laughter and shared stories of various events and mishaps that have happened at Medallion. Tuesday was a little quieter and not so squished, but the fun didn’t stop. Oh wait, it did as we where driving to Chilliwack and the front tire on the Limo BLEW!!! I must say Elf Graham truly impressed me with his calm demeanor and control of the car!!! At that point we where on the side of the road with the flashers going. Luckily Dave, my husband, came and rescued Roger, Sherry and myself. Rose’s son, Brent, came and picked them up and thank you for taking Dave home to Chilliwack. As grumpy elf smoked his stress away he waited with Suzy, Neil and Brad for a Tow Truck. Eventually we all got home safe with our own stories and adventures to tell. Thank you once again to everyone. We have truly proved that we are a fun group of people!!!!!!

I will say that overall the Limo by Lights was a huge success. Elf Graham was the driver of our Sleigh, Elf Brad was the Door man, and Melanie was festively dressed as Mrs. Clause. Pizza was good and there was plenty of laughter.

Does anyone remember Team Member Phoebe??? She is coming back to work in January. She was gone on a cross Canada trek ending up in Newfoundland. We look forward to hearing some more about her adventures.

FIRST HUMAN HEART TRANSPLANT:
On December 3, 1967, 53-year-old Lewis Washkansky receives the first human heart transplant at Groote Schuur Hospital in Cape Town, South Africa. Washkansky, a South African grocer dying from chronic heart disease, received the transplant from Denise Darvall, a 25-year-old woman who was fatally injured in a car accident.

Well, we survived another Tradex season !!! Everyone should be very proud of themselves. You didn’t have to be a regular Tradex staffer to know that the season was a busy one. Some information for all the usual Tradexians (hey, is that even a word??) there are a few small events in December, then it is quiet. However, as of January 20th, 2006, Medallion Event Specialists is booked every week up to June 2006 !!!!!! So for those of you who are looking for part time and full time employment - WE GOT IT !!

In January, we will be hiring for every department, Security, First Aid, Housekeeping, Cashiers, and of course Parkers. We will be searching for more Team Leaders for each department as well. If you know anyone that will be looking for work, tell them about us.

Remember Medallion is NOT having a staff appreciation open house this year. We have the Food Donation Box ready and the tickets to win a Limo Ride are printed and waiting to be won. Just think, Christmas Lights by Limo, does life get any better???

It is a show aimed at families from pregnancy through to graduation, with commercial exhibitors, entertainment, activities and just plain old fun. Susan says: all Parkers were awesome, even during short staff times, sick times, and emergencies. Superb job and keep up the dancing??? Special mention goes to Curtis, Vali made comment that “The guy really works, doesn’t just sit around – he approaches the cars.” Remember the Duty Managers are always watching!!!

PARKERS: please remember to have lots of clothes with you. It is better to be warm & dry with less fashion than fashionable and soaked. Also please review the manual for dress code.

Thanks for all the wonderful feedback from the attendees. We hope that you went away with information you can use in the future. Please remember that the products we use are different from other facilities. **** Attendees were paid 4 hrs, you are not paid for the lunch break.

Hey have you heard the news???
Medallion has just signed a five year contract to supply Tradex with Security, First Aid, Parking and Housekeeping services!!!! That makes us the only Company to supply services to Tradex for 10 years in a row. Tradex opened its doors in 1991, Medallion supplied Security for the first 4 years, then Group 4 went in for one year and we were back. We’ve come along way since then.

General Custer is surrounded by Indians and he's the only cowboy left. He finds an old lamp in front of him and rubs it. Out pops a genie. The genie grants Custer one wish, with a catch.
