Yesterday I started to work on new articles in a different way than I used to until now. All what I do now is that I pick up questions asked by visitors of Aqua-Fish.Net and then I answer them. It seems to be a good method to get new visitors since they (visitors) get exactly what they want.

It has been long since I published links to newest articles, so here they are:

Due to financial crisis I had to stop investing into new articles. Therefore all new articles will be written by me. I am hoping to reopen the investment process in a few months in order to give visitors more content, high quality information and more points of view.

For those who want to advertise on aqua-fish.net directly, I created ads.aqua-fish.net. It is not link selling since I don't want to face potential penalty in search engines. Instead, it's a type of advertisement which allows one to sell products effectively. For example, if you want to sell a book about Discus fish, you can pick only pages about Discus fish. In return you pay less and conversion is more likely than a sitewide link somewhere at the bottom of pages.

Today I created a few RSS feeds pages showing news from aqua-fish.net. One example is this:

There will be more of them, firstly I must find another 10 articles for publishing. Because the old core worked with the first 300 characters of the article, thus the feed thing wasn't very readable.

I added a small link to each article, fish/plant/biotope profile on aqua-fish.net because there are too many people copying content from my website without any written/spoken permission. OK, I reported them to Google, but their AdSense accounts were suspended for a while. This is not my goal, of course. So now, everyone who is blindly copying and pasting content from my website, sees a link called "REPORT COPYRIGHT INFRINGEMENT" on every important page of my website. Thus, I await lower rate of copy&paste. The link points to http://forum.aqua-fish.net/?topic=copyright-infringement-reports which is a forum topic, but it applies to every single page of Aqua-Fish.Net.

Progress with the French version

Cedric and Pitter are doing good job with correcting the French version of aqua-fish.net. There are still 14 articles waiting for being fixed, however this number is lower than previous ;) .

I am hoping to get all 225 (until now) articles in English translated into French until this December.

I decided to support another good thing; bullmastiff-rescue.org.uk. All abandoned and unwanted dogs need our help, so spending a few bucks each month is worth it! I wish I could donate more such pounds.

Next year I will get some dog from the pound near my place. This way I will help; small help is better than no help :) .

Forum abuse

Recently wwo registered users of forum.aqua-fish.net have experienced abuse regarding their accounts. Some keylogger or spyware script (probably) used their accounts for spamming. The forum itself is protected against spam as it doesn't link to any URL directly by default. Each link is javascript based. Only safe links are hyperlinked directly.

However, if the [img] element is abused, then there is no protection against such activity. This is why users can always report abuse or report spam. One way how to report abuse is this link: forum.aqua-fish.net/?topic=abuse-reports. Another option is to click on the "report spam" link which is attached to each post/reply.

Yesterday I installed a small script which caches all pages served by show.php on aqua-fish.net. The exception exists for posting new comments since these must be processed from non-cache.

The speed is now unbelievable!
