Well, now I have time to not wake up until 12 o'clock ;D

Got a new bike, like it very much, so I try to ride it every day, when the weather is fine.

Now I'm sitting and writing on my old IBM Thinkpad 600...BeOS is so slow here.
On my R40 i have Mandriva 2008 installed, it isn't very fast though, so I'm thinking about Ubuntu there.

I am so much into photography, that I can't use BeOS/Zeta/Haiku on my main stationary PC (which has been upgraded meanwhile so that it won't even boot Be). I just need apps like Lightroom, Photoshop etc.
My R40 is not fully supported by Zeta, and I have to make all that chemistry and biology stuff there, so it's really better to have a Linux.

Oh, and I have to check out the new release of Nexenta! Need to prepare an HDD for it...

It seems that I haven't posted here anything for a while. BeWorld has a new look, as you can see.
Well, this is my first post this year. Just no time to write anything. I rarely boot up my BeOS laptop. I've got a new IBM, model R40 with Mandriva inside. It does quite well with WiFi. I made some tuning to my main PC so that it cannot run BeOS nor Haiku anymore.
And Zeta is illegal - poor Berndt, haha.

I'm going to visit England on the 1st of August - uh, not for sightseeing, but for work. I'm working there approx. 3 weeks. A lot of hard work.

I hope I can update this blog during my stay in England. Maybe sooner ? I don't know...well, the time will show us.

I'm finally in high school. It isn't so colourful as you can think. I have a lot of studying (biology and chemistry)...yeah, I know I'm repeating the same words all the time but...

I've lost some friends...and gained a few new.
I'm waiting for the Haiku Alpha ^^
I've been to Sankt Petersburg - beautiful city in the even more beautiful country!

Yes, holidays ! Free time !
I'm going to Sankt Petersburg, Russia at the end of July. :)
Now, I'm relaxing... I'll resume osbos.com music mixin' project :) Now I'm equipped with FL Studio, so it should be a little bit better.

I'm not so away from BeOS - I'm still using it on my Thinkpad. Still, it's very comfortable for updating my websites.

Well...in semptember I'm going to a high school :) I hope I'll make friends there.

Meanwhile... I've bought Canon 300D with 4GB card. It makes really good photos, and it wasn't so expensive.

I have a lot of "free" time now, but I also have a lot of things to do. I don't have time to follow up BeOS news, or even update BeOSCentral.eu. :(

Boring life of a student

Well, I travelled yesterday and I'm very tired now... My win$hit hdd crashed so now I can use Zeta Neo again ;] (but without the printer and usb devices). An used IBM hdd is being shipped to me, as I want to recover and store somewhere my photos.
I'm thinking about new music mix ;) It's time to look for samples...

I'm also planning Haiku DTP Edition. What do you think about it ? It'd include all applications for desktop publishing. However, I need at least Haiku R1 for that.

One week ago I bought Casio Palm-size PC. I've paid 50$, and another 20$ for 512mb CF card. I don't need better palmtop, this is perfect for my needs.

I was given a 20gb hdd, so I've installed Windows XP there, so that I'm syncing my palmtop.
Well, I don't have time recently. School sucks :(

Ah, I've nearly forgotten. I've bought Canon 500n, and borrowed my mother's lens (Voigtlaender). Well, I have 14 more photos to do on my test film. We will see how good the camera is :)

And Silverwing server is closed... no guests - no server.

Eh... my PM9500 is here. Yeah, 2gb hdd rules. OS8.6 works like a thunderstorm. But I can't use it :( The hdd has some errors, so the system hangs up and I hear strange, rhytmical sounds...

Anyway, I have some good news, too. VR Worx 2.1 started to work on my PM7200. I truely don't know why. On my PM9500 I still see "error type 3". I've also soldiered a Mac -> PC monitor cable, and it works. Pity that it only works in 800x600 on my 15" CRT.

I have some junk to give out. A few C64 computers and Star LC-10 printer...I don't want it anymore, I have too much stuff.

Well, today I've installed StuffIt 5.5, Acrobat Reader 4, SoundJam MP, Net Presenz and some other junk on my mac. I have to say, it's slow. I've also made some screenshots. But firstly, I would like to ask you some questions.This is how all the mess looks like.

And yes, this is the power switch.

And my question is: What is that slot for ?

Well, My PPC 601 @ 75mhz is finally at home. One of the ram cards was broken and motherboard battery empty. But now, it works - slowly, with 32mb of ram.
There is OS8.0PL installed. Simply, I hate it. I can't uninstall QuickTime to install newer one. I can't run sit files, only those downloaded from web I can. I can't update it to 8.1 - the updater is incompatible with polish version.
OK, then I downloaded Mac OS 8.5 from Hotline. Yes, an img file. And I can't burn it ! :( I have to buy more cds and try with CloneCD. I tried mounting it under Alcohol 120% and copying entire disk through Nero, but no success.
So, what I need to change:
- Install Mac OS 8.6
- Buy Mac<->VGA converter (640x480 just sucks)
- Buy 64mb of ram
- Buy bigger SCSI HDD, approximately 2gb. 500mb is not enough, really.
- Clean it
- (maybe) Buy a SCSI CD burner
- (maybe) Change the whole thing to something faster (120-160mhz or more)

At the moment, I can't run any of downloaded apps (.sit) on my mac. I have to wait, for OS 8.5 CD... ARGH!

Bad News, Good News

3dMix uses only 64mb of memory, or even a smaller amount. That's why you have 512mb installed on your system and it tells you that and when you click ok, that. You can also take a look at the ProcessController icon on Deskbar. Ridiculous, isn't it ?

So now, when I told you the bad news, I can tell you good news. I made another mix. Yes, now it's something totally different. It's called "and you're not getting that anyway". Well, firstly, you hear thrilling sounds. Then, you're in a warm, chic place. You must hear it to feel it. I wanted to add some other sounds, but "Not enough memory", although I had over 300mb ram free.

Solaris vs. NexentaOS

Solaris:
- logging as user automatically logs out and shows me the login screen,
+ in my native language (mostly),
- polish letters doesn't work,
- no ftp client
- error when trying to change wallpaper
- errors with gcc (couldn't create executables)
Nexenta:
- not working Add/Remove nor apt-get...
+ built-in cd burner app
- "password incorrect" when logging as su from normal user account,
+ polish letters
+ more apps preinstalled (like Inkscape...)
- older firefox than in Solaris Express
- system is completely in English
+ kasablanca ftp client

When booting the Solaris Express, you can see it's "Express", a nearly clean distro where you can do much. It has StarOffice, which is nice, and nice GNOME theme. It's good only for testing. But... we are waiting for Solaris 11 ;-)
When booting the NexentaOS, you can see it was prepared for end-user use. But unfortunately, not right prepared. Nexenta is better than Solaris Express, but older and it has its long road to usable operating system, but it's very stable now.

So, I recommend you to use Nexenta OS, but the upcoming release, because Alpha5 is really alpha. Personally, I'm looking forward to it.

OpenSolaris part one - The Solaris Express 07/06

So I'm on Solaris Express. Installation was very easy. Everything seems to be okay. This system is faster than linux - wow ;).
There is one thing wrong - I can't write polish letters, although I have set Polish keyboard layout and fonts are ok.

So, let me test it more.
