Dog agility practice

Tom has always been a "mammal guy" preferring the "big five" of Africa to birds, Moose to insects, wolves to flowers, etc. Over the years he has gotten very good at Bird flight photography, has developed quite an eye for flower composition and really notices all those little critters out there. Alas, mammals are his true calling. Today he photographed something as challenging as birds in flight -- dog agility. Father-daughter dance

Connie and her father danced to this song by Rascal Flatts. It was the first time that I had heard this song, but I know that it will be great for many of our slideshows.

Erick and Connie's Wedding

We got to ATTEND a wedding yesterday at Anthony's in New Haven. We actually got to sit and eat the food, danced, talk with people and we ate lots of (really good) dessert. It was wonderful! We only brought a little point and shoot camera with us and got some pretty typical point and shoot photos, red eye and all.

Breanna's brother Erick got married to Connie. It was a very touching wedding of two people very much in love. Erick got emotional when reading his vows and lots of us were tearie eyed. He is a pilot and she is an air traffic controller so her as his direction/air traffic controller was in his vows. And their first song was Frank Sinatra's "Come Fly with Me". Breanna was in the wedding party -- she looked awesome, she looked like she was 25 not 14! She had her hair colored and it was all done up -- wow! She can really dance too.

OK, here are a few photos, but be forewarned, we used a little point and shoot -- and it shows, but its OK because they had a wedding photographer there doing his job. OK we were a little lost at a wedding without our camera.

Breanna brought her iPod and the DJ hooked into it so that she could request a song for her big brother and his new wife. She then got Erick to dance with her. Later in the evening she requested the BackStreet Boys (she went to see them in concert a few weeks ago, (her 8th grade graduation present from us). For that song she managed to get both of her brothers out there dancing with her.

Breanna had a ball -- she danced the night away!

I love the fact that they went out on the beach for photographs. We did not follow them, but Tom grabbed this from the patio. What a fabulous sunset followed this. Absolutely perfect.

Newborn baby boy (& his older brother)

We photographed Carson at 19 days old -- so cute and little and wrinkly -- such a handsome and good baby! Remember that for 2008 sessions with NEWBORN BABIES (under 3 weeks of age) are complimentary. Carson and his parents and his big brother Zack were a delight ot work with. We took a ton of photographs -- here is a sneak peak at a few of them.

Stay tuned for more photos later -- we have photos of the four of them, photos of the Mom and Dad and baby, baby with his big brother, photos of mom alone with baby Carson, Dad alone with baby Carson and of course lots of little Carson alone.

Zack just came ALIVE in front of the camera! This was our storage ottoman posing stool -- he discovered that it had a lid and room for storage inside -- and he climbed in! I would love to have Zack back from some GREEN SCREEN fun because he is so anmiated in front opf the camera.

Zack likes being a big brother and seemed very protective (and very comfortable) holding little carson. Without being asked to he leaned over and kissed him on the forehead -- this is just precious!

Dad's thumb against little Carson's foot. Hard to believe that in no time he will be asking for new sneakers for little league -- and then using these same feet to drive Dad's car. They grow up sooo fast!

This image wasn't even posed, just Dad sitting there with Carson while Mom and Zack went and warmed his bottle.

Mohonk Mountain House

We went to the Mohonk Mountain House for lunch and a massage, but we did find some time for photography as well. The flowers were just fantastic. Here are a few of Tom's images from Mohonk. Tom used my Sigma 180mm Macro lens which he now hogs, but I do have to admit that he is getting some really awesome images with that lens. Tom even has some photographs that are even better than these, but he has earmarked some of them for competition so we will show them later :-)

Quinceañera

Tom photographed the young ladies again this year for the DCF Quinceañera . He had a great time and was honored to be a part of this special coming of age occasion. Here is a sneak peak at some of the traditions and details of this wonderful celebration of adulthood.

The history of Quinceanera dates back to the Aztecs around 500 B.C. The word is comprised of two parts: "quince" (fifteen) and "anera" which is a derivative of "anos" (year); and refers to a girl's fifteenth birthday. By age fifteen, boys were expected to become warriors and fulfil their father's expectations. For girls, it was the time in their life when they were presented to the community as young ladies, instead of girls. Fifteen-year-old Aztec girls were considered women and were given the instruction and responsibilities of womanhood and although this is a hugely significant rite of passage, it is also an enormous honor, one that Mexican girls today look forward to with pride and happiness. Every other birthday before and after may come and go without major celebration, but throughout the history of Quinceanera, this event has been full of ritual and tradition. The Quinceañera or Quince años is, in some Spanish-speaking regions of the Americas, a young woman's celebration of her fifteenth birthday, which is commemorated in a unique and different way from her other birthdays. It is sometimes represented XV Años, meaning "15 years."

There are some universal traditions for the Quinceañera -- like the changing of the shoes, the first dance, and the quinceañera traditionally being dressed in a ball gown. There are many traditions throughout the celebration. One of the most popular is the Changing of the Shoes. The father or favored male relative ceremoniously changes the young girl’s flat shoes to high heels. This is a beautiful symbol of the Quinceañera’s transformation from a little girl to a young lady.

At the church ceremony, a special Kneeling Pillow, sometimes personalized with the Quinceañera’s name, is placed in position for the young girl to kneel on during the ceremony.

Hawk in our backyard

We have lots of squirrels in our backyard (about 15 too many!) and sometimes the hawks try to get one (we root for the hawk). This squirrel outsmarted the hawk though and hide underneath the bird feeder. Tom used the 70-200 mm lens shooting right from our bedroom window.

Paw 'N Effect -- more dogs

We photographed a few more dogs at Paws 'N Effect -- a small class but great looking dogs!
Again, these are all puppies so it makes it even harder because they are so quick and hyper. We really had fun trying to get some of them so sit or stand for a few seconds in order to snap the shutter. What expressions on these magnificent puppies! One big advantage of hiring us for your wedding is that there are two of us -- Tom was photographing the processional as I captured these images of Greg as the bridesmaids, the flower girl and then Trenita coming down the aisle.

I just love black and white and color -- special effects like these are included in our packages

Things like candle lighting really lend themselves to creating paintings.

Tom had fun with this image. I set it up, which meant that he had to lie on the ground to capture this...

Last one, another of my favorites...I applied a creative filter to change the quality of the light (it was taken around 2:00).

Julia 21 year old in our studio

Julia was the first person to be photographed in our studio! I love the lighting and the background and the chaise is the perfect prop. We created some Black and white (and come B&W with chocolate). Which one is your favorite? Mine is the first one.

We will be photographing Julia again in December -- for her maternity sessions.

Then we will have many photo sessions of her baby!

An award-winning photograph of an Osprey by Lisa Cuchara of Hamden, Connecticut, appears in the current issue of WildBird, a bimonthly magazine about birdwatching.

The photo shows the Osprey bringing a flounder to its a nest of chicks, and it won first place in the flight category of the birding magazine's 20th annual photo contest.

We photographed Caitlin with her horse Kit. Tom started off with her riding the horse, panning and trying to get some action shots. Then I took some closeup portraits of her and Dave.

We had fun photographing Kerry and her horse Dave. I started off with her with her horse getting some nice interaction between the two of them. But then she decided to ride him bareback and wow, she really came alive, her whole demeanor, body language and facial expressions changed and any stress that she felt at being in front of the camera just melted away! I took the close up "portraits" at the beginning of the session while Tom captured her and Dave "in action" -- check out the motion blur as he panned -- Whoa!

I applied some cool artistic effects to some of the images and the first one and the last one are among my favorites.

We spent the evening photographing Sarah with a whole bunch of puppies. Sarah purchased one of our four session portrait packages in order to set up her pet sitting business and her Blog -- WaHoo!
