Tutorial: Restyling the XP Control Panel to Vista Style

Have you restyled your whole windows to make it look clean and polished ? Did you work countless hours trying to find skins and icons, to make everything just right ? And there is only a few things left and you just cant style them.. like the control panel and ill show you how..

1. The Icons

First off all you need a complete Iconset for Iconpackager and off course IconPackager itself. The set i created and used is Vista XP Deluxe Icons. Be aware IconPackager styles your Control Panel Icons only if you have the "licensed" Version and the section within IP checked. Be sure to check it under "Packages > Include" to the right of the application.

2. The Copy Process

As you will see IconPackager can only skin a default set of Control Panel Icons. So what do we do with the unskinned ones that cant be changed ? This is the solution: Simply drag them to the Control Panel Item "Administrative Tools", which is just a Folder and you will be able to easily access them in near future as a link to the original file.

Below you can see the unskinned items as links in "Administrative Tools", you could even change there icons too, because they were turned to links.

3. The Cleanup

What now ? Hiding the unskinned icons which you wont use very often anyway from the Panel. We can do that by using "Tweak UI" from Microsoft Powertoys pack. Download it here.

Then Launch Tweak UI and goto "Control Panel" Section to hide the elements you copied to "Administrative Tools" first. You can off course toggle them to visible again if you need to!

4. Finished

And your Control Panel could look similiar to this:

Google Blog Search Listing Me

Im quite happy, that i think i have this blog now fully set up ! I was testing arround with ping and search and thought there was something wrong, but it seems blog search engines like Icerocket are just not crawling as fast as i thought.. Lets hope good old Technorati and all the others i ping, get my pings and everything is fine!

Are you accustomed to blogging and do you know how long a "blog-search-eninge" usualy take to index your new post ? If yes please drop a comment, as id realy like to know more about it..

Extremely Cool Pixelart !

I found this extremely cool piece of Pixelart today. Its a kind of header for a pixel artist known as oxygen-21. He is also drawing some buildings for the project PixelDam. Phenom X4

What is the phenom doing ? Ive read some reviews about AMDs new Quad Core processor and they don't seem very promising to me. Im also an enduser who wants a fast and stable processor, which i can also overclock and as it seems AMD has quite alot of problems with the phenom. There is a widespread bug called "TLB" bug, which seems to crash the processor at higher speeds and other rumors.. Also the Power Usage is not as good as Intels current offerings.. what do you think ?

Howto Remove Blogger Navbar

This is just an easy and very quick guide to remove the blogger navbar. I hope you enjoy it !

Goto template / edit CSS

Now scroll down until you find this part of code:

Anywhere before this piece of code paste:

Thats it, save and enjoy your blog without the ugly bar !

In detail:

We are hiding the navbar with a CSS rule called "display". The use of "none" simply tells the element #navbar to be hidden totaly and not take up any space. The code before the ]]> part is the CSS section where you can paste/write such rules and restyle elements inside the Template. After that the actual HTML, which builds the template is written.

Finaly Done..

I have been frustrated with the last blogger templates i made.. They were cool and good looking, but not very flexible. So i decided to make a new one ! And with the new modern blogger system, i can now edit colors, fonts and basically my whole custom made layout inside of blogger. This is really great and as you can see, you can even add all posts to Digg or other service sites, with a single click !

I and my very good friend and best coder i know have started working on my new portfolio. The new layout is way more minimalistic and features an amazingly practical CMS and full-featured gallery, supporting tiled and thumbnail views, filters by tags, sort by date, sort by view, a slide-out menu for tags and cat. and way more. So this is a completly other direction as V1 was, and i think its a more clever one.Enjoy this small screenshot and i promise you, there's way more to come!
