Villu’s story is reminiscent of the prehistoric Tamil cinema formulas – son taking revenge over his father’s killers to satiate his mother’s wishes. And of course, there is time for love, double crossing, comedy and some sentiments in the midst.

Nayan’s presence serves the purpose of eye candy – she wears micro minis (she even asks you so in one of the songs), bras disguised as tops, dangerously low-waist skirts and spaghetti tops. Whatever happened to that naïve and talented girl of Ayya and Manasinakkara? Although Vadivelu’s unimaginative comedy track (yes, the track has absolutely no connection whatsoever with the movie’s main plot) is boisterous and loud, it serves as a saving grace for the movie in many instances…………..

Bommalattam Movie Story Review
After watching Bommalattam, Bharathiraja's bilingual venture, one cannot help being overawed by the excellence of Nana Patekar – easily one of the best actors India has ever produced. Designed as a film within a film the movie explores the quintessential life of a talented film director viewed as an eccentric from time to time.
Bharathiraja is a name known for bringing rural India to life with scripts that are highly metaphorical in nature. The director who had also rendered an exquisite film noir in 'Sigappu Rojakkal' decades ago is back with a film that treads along the lines of murder under vicious circumstances.
The fallacies of a world that fails to recognize creative angst has been captured on celluloid rather effectively. Arjun plays a CBI officer (Vivek) thirsting after the truth while Rukmini Vijayakumar plays the heroine of the film that is shot by Rana (Nana Patekar).
Why does the director have such an affinity for his heroine? How can a man who loses his temper at the drop of a hat be calm and even sweet to some people? Who is responsible for the murders? These are the questions that are answered as the film unfolds.
Comic relief is provided by Vivek and Manivannan. Although funny at times their interludes derail the intensity of the story big time. Compared to the brilliance of Nana Patekar, every other actor appears ordinary except Rukmini Vijayakumar who has done justice to her role.
Cinematography is brilliant and the background score is passable. None of the songs impress. Though nowhere in the vicinity of Sigappu Rojakkal's brilliance, Bommalattam does succeed in arresting audiences' attentions during a major twist in the story which in actuality is the very crux of the film.
Nana Patekar's brilliance has been watered down considerably with an inappropriate voice (Nizhalgal Ravi). The Bommalattam think-tank could have had second thoughts on this and probably introduced a voice that goes with the intensity of the lead character............

After Thoda Pyaar Thoda Magic , the tortuous God Tussi Great Ho and the hellish Hello , Oh, My God!! is yet another tale of divine intervention in the life of a protagonist who prays to God but doesn’t want His help at the cost of his morals.
Vinay Pathak plays Rajendra Dubey, a salesman with big dreams of becoming another Ambani someday. He has many money-making schemes that no one seems interested in. His wife ( Divya Dutta ) prays to the almighty for help. And lo and behold, God ( Saurabh Shukla ), dressed in all white, comes down himself to hand over bags of money to Dubey and also munch on some fast food and confectionary during His earthly sojourn.
With its honest, holier-than-thou protagonist, ‘Oh My God’ tries to drive home a good moral message that gets diluted in the morass of its plot-holes. The sequences in which God keeps reappearing before Dubey in different avatars get repetitive after some time. Though Pathak plays his part with conviction, you notice that the actor stands a serious risk of getting typecast in guy-next-door kind of roles. Vaaranam Aayiram Review:

The movie opens with an army officer Surya receiving the news of his dad’s death while on a mission. Flashback- Right from his birth, for Surya (Surya) his dad Krishnan (Surya), a middle-class central government employee is more of a friend and a role model than a disciplinarian father. He dotes on his dad more than his mom Malini (Simran) and sister Shriya, and they live a happy life. Surya is influenced by his dad's stories of how he romanced his mother and won her. As Malini nostalgically tells him- “He just swept me off my feet"!

Surya goes to an Engineering college in Tiruchi, after his father borrows money to pay his capitation fees, but ends up watching movies than attending classes. After his last semester exams, on the way back to Chennai he meets the beautiful Meghana (Sameera Reddy) on train and it is love at first sight. Being a guy who has never looked at a girl, he pulls out his guitar and sings En iniyia pon nilaave!

Meghana and Surya are like chalk and cheese; she has graduated from the prestigious REC, Tiruchi a studious type and a topper who is going to do her MS at Berkley University in California! But somehow Surya who says he has been hit by a "thunderbolt" tells her-" I will come into your life and sweep you off your feet". How his father sticks with him through thick and thin and helps him to attain his goal against all odds, forms rest of this bio pic.

Gautham simply wrings you dry with his overplay of emotions in the father-son bonding. The climax is heart wrenching and heartwarming as Surya's breakdown and tears roll down his cheek which looks real. The best part of the film is the first half, especially the wispy romance between Surya and Sameera Reddy, with the scene where Surya falls for her in the train is hilarious and romantic. And when Sameera says finally – "I'm in love", with Surya playing around with a toy helicopter at Fort Point, which offers the best view of the Golden Bridge in San Francisco, the romance tugs at your heart. Only Gautham, a romantic can make such scenes work.

Kidnap Movie Review

Synopsis: On her 18th Birthday, Sonia Raina (Minissha Lamba), daughter of a New York based business tycoon, Vikrant Raina (Sanjay Dutt), has been kidnapped.

The kidnapper, a boy named Kabir (Imran Khan), will not talk to anyone except Vikrant. To save his daughter, Vikrant comes to India and performs tasks given by Kabir. The kidnapper is not after money. So what is it that he wants? Obviously, revenge. Kabir is an orphan boy. When he was eight years old, he sneaked into Vikrant’s bungalow to steal his car to drive his injured friend to the hospital.

Vikrant’s daughter, Sonia, saw Kabir and jumped into the car and told him to leave the car but he did not listen and drove the car and had an accident which almost killed Sonia. Vikrant then went to the police and told them that Kabir should be branded as a criminal, a kidnapper. Kabir was shocked. The police officer tried to reason with Vikrant but in his situation any father would have lost his sense. Now, Kabir is grown up and he will seek justice in his way.

Let’s start with the biggest disappointment; Kidnap Hindi movie has a regurgitated story. A fourteen year old boy ended up in jail because of an arrogant rich businessman. Now, the boy has grown young and he is going to make the man suffer the same way he did. Already, the Hindi movie going audience seen such story in Sanjay Dutt and John Abraham starrer Zinda(2006). So, there is nothing new.

The movie created lots of hype with its trailers and promotional songs. Imran Khan’s new haircut and his mean kidnapper role, Sanjay Dutt’s return on the big screen after a long time, last but not least, Minissha Lamba donning bikini and ultra modern clothes. All the elements were used well and a lot of hype and enthusiasm was created. Plus, you have a director like Sanjay Gadhvi who directed hit movies like Dhoom and Dhoom 2. From the very beginning, every one was expecting something serious and entertaining. Alas, Kidnap Hindi movie failed live upto the expectation.

Aegan Movie Review

Shiva (Ajith) is a stunning cop and you can get it well known with his introduction scene in Hong Kong. Being a mighty person, he shatters down the mafia chief with no efforts. His step-father Karthik (Nasser), police commissioner says- “He is a one-man army, who trusts only his gun”. Wow! That’s what is revealed throughout the intro parts. But then, the story slowly transcends into fun loving ambience.

This begins when Siva is offered to accomplish a different mission – that is about trapping an international criminal John Chinnapa (Suman), whose eyes are fixed on killing his former team member Ram Prasad (Devan) as he turns into a police approver. Ram is in hiding somewhere in Ooty where his daughter Priya (Piaa) is studying in St. John’s College. As an undercover agent, he has to enter the college as a student of developing friendliness with Piyaa and trapping her father’s locations.

Soon as Shiva joins the college, we have whole lots of new characters introduced; a mirthful principal (Jayaram) and a navy guy (Sathyan) and group of students including Priya’s lover Narain (Navdeep), later about whom it is revealed that he is Siva’s step-brother.

Of course, for the greatest excitement, we have alluring professor Mallika (Nayanthara) and Siva falling in love at first sight.

Rest of the film is about grand fiestas of extreme fun, dance, song, action, romance, emotions and more.

As mentioned earlier, Thala rocks throughout the film with his surprising show. The most ever best part that would make non-fans of Ultimate star applaud more is where he sings ‘Unnai Partha Pinbu Naan’ from Kadhal Mannan as he sings at Nayanthara. The stunts scenes at the introduction part are marvelous and mind blowing as he looks similar to Al Pacino. But, it looks a magical transcendence as he goes slim in the following scenes. His dancing steps in ‘Hey Saala’ and ‘Odum Varayil’ are scintillating.

Nayanthara as gorgeous missy steals the show with her half-saris and sleeveless blouse. Jayaram and Haneefa stride with excellent comedy tracks while Suman goes perfect as a comedy villain and his combo with Sriman are rib-trickling. Nasser and Suhasini do justice to their role and ditto to Navdeep and Piyaa.

Musical score by Yuvan Shankar Raja offers more strength to the film and same credit for cinematographer Arjun Jena for capturing best exotic locations of Ooty.

Punch dialogues are matching for the Thala and goes hand in with the film…
On the whole, Aegan is a thriller packed action comedy with commercial elements. It’s not just for Thala fans, but a film to watch and enjoyed by everyone for the festive occasion.

Karzzzzz Movie Review:

walked into “Karzzz” with prejudice. Personally, I’m not a fan of the Himesh Reshammiya brand of music. And honestly, I have no clue what the Himesh Reshammiya brand of movies entails. Nor for that matter, what the original “Karz” is like.

Having said that, I walked out of “Karzzz” with a sore bottom, but also an enhanced likeability for Himesh Reshammiya as an individual. No pretensions of intellectualism, no aspirations for yuppie immortality, it’s clear that Himesh wants to be loved by a certain segment of society and it’s clearer why he has the numerous fans that he does.

Himesh Reshammiya is a phenomenon. No matter what the high-brow bunch say, irrespective of the opinions of the Bollywood badshahs who live in a delusional universe of fake originality and superficial cool. Can he act? Can he sing? Can he rise to cinematic excellence? No, no and no. But, does it matter? Also, no.

Is he honest? Is he relatable? Is he sticking to safe territory? Yes, yes and yes. And that is why he will continue to appeal.

“Karzzz” is apparently the same tale as the “Karz”. With Satish Kaushik behind the camera, Monty (a slimmer, capless, Himesh Reshammiya) is a rock star, who falls in love with Tina (Shweta Kumar) in South Africa, while she’s on an assignment from her catering college in Kenya.

Monty has visions of a certain palace, past life and pretty chick Kamini (Urmila Matondkar). When he’s advised to take a month’s vacation, he picks Kenya so he can woo Tina while his mind recovers. Except that while in Kenya, he spots the palace, meets Kamini, who’s now a princess, and comes to terms with his past life.

For, Monty is actually Ravi Verma (Dino Morea) from a previous life. Ravi is deceived and killed by Kamini. Mama Verma goes into shock, but not before swearing in front of goddess Kali that she won’t rest until her son returns.

“Karzzz” takes those very Bollywood themes of reincarnation and revenge, which are SO not now, but sticks to the formula and doesn’t veer too far from the theme. It is ridiculous and implausible, just as it was back then – in the 70s, 80s and even 90s (remember “Karan Arjun”?)

Truth be told, I hated it as a work of cinema. But, because cinema, and certainly reviewing cinema, is not just about one individual’s opinion, it has to consider the intended audience. “Karzzz” will probably do very well.

It’s clean family entertainment in the classic Bollywood sense. And in these hard times of rising inflation, tumbling economies and whatever else, “Karzzz” takes you back to those crazy, familiar times, when you knew what the end was and better yet, you knew what the journey would be like.

Sakkarakatti Movie Review

Shantanoo Bagyaraj’s debut film ‘Sakarakatti’ comes across as a lackluster film with a screenplay that fails to impress right through. Though the young actor seems bubbly, his efforts have been wasted with contrived dialogues and clichéd sequences.

A. R. Rahman’s brilliance is in abundance both with the songs and the background score, but debutant director Kalaprabhu has miserably failed to match the refreshing standards set by the talented musician. Visualization of the songs has been worked out well but then does not go with the mood of the film.

Art direction in the song sequences has to be lauded. Recreation of the Van Helsing set and certain other similar endeavors have come out well. Computer Generated Imagery that features in the song sequences has come good. Soundarya Rajinikanth’s Ocher Studios’ involvement in the film is commendable. There are no villains in the film and the director has struggled to keep the conflict element going.

There is however one song ‘Taxi….Taxi’ that stands out. Youthful vigor, catchy tunes and a mood that personifies joy has come out brilliantly. Shantanoo is at ease in the song with some good dancing complimenting the rest of the dancers that include hip-swaying damsels.

Dimple-cheeked Shantanoo seems to be inspired tremendously by Shahrukh Khan as many of his expressions especially in the beginning of the film reveal. Unfortunately for the debutant whose father is considered one the greatest screenwriters in South Indian cinema, his introductory film hovers around aimlessly without any semblance of a screenplay.
