PlaceMyProduct.com is, simply, a place to auction off your ad inventory to the highest bidder.

You can, pretty much, auction any type of ad, sponsorship, or product placement, both online or offline. It's up to you. Some basic online examples could include:

1. Banner ads on websites
2. Sponsorships on podcasts
3. Text links on blogs
4. Product placement in online videos
5. Sponsorships for your email newsletter

Those are just a few examples for online ads. You can auction offline ads as well, like ads in a niche magazine or outdoor ads.

I created an auction for a banner placement in TradePals profiles. Have a look and place a bid if interested.

Tino Bunticnoreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2074681513024527904.post-35793107836262818472007-11-09T01:30:00.001-05:002007-11-09T01:32:46.054-05:00Bad Ad PlacementSometimes ad placement is just bad (check the positioning of the exhaust pipe)...

Tino Bunticnoreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2074681513024527904.post-73664495497989138042007-10-28T20:14:00.000-05:002007-10-28T19:15:23.015-05:00ScratchBack.com And The Future Of Online AdvertisingA smart, entrepreneurial fella by the name of Jim Kukral launched a new online (blog) ad network that goes by the name of ScratchBack.

THIS IS THE FUTURE OF ONLINE ADVERTISING!!!

Let me elaborate. I don't mean that ScratchBack, as good idea it actually is (and it is a great idea), is the future of online advertising. Rather, it's the way it is set up that is the future of online advertising.

Traditionally, an online ad network works like this: The ad network signs up thousands of advertisers that want their ads shown across a network of websites. Website publishers post the ad code on their site and the ad network automatically populates the ad space with ads paid for by the advertisers. This works well and makes a lot of money.

But a new startup cannot compete with these networks because they're huge and already ingrained into the fabric of the web. Any new entrants to this competitive market are apt to fail because they would need a huge critical mass to be a success. New advertisers won't sign up because their network of websites won't be big enough to advertise on. New publishers won't sign up because there aren't enough advertisers so they won't make any money. Even with a cool new way to distribute the ads (Turn.com) will be difficult to launch because of the absolute giants in online advertising that you'd have to compete with (Google, Yahoo, MSN, etc.). Just see Turn.com; it's received $26 million in funding and seems to be forever stuck in beta.

Now, take ScratchBack. It doesn't need a critical mass of advertisers and publishers to launch because it works differently than the standard ad networks. Check it out: www.ScratchBack.com and try it on your blog (if you do, indeed, have a blog).

I've added the SratchBack widget on the side panel, the one that says "Are you in my topspots?" I'm testing it out but I probably won't keep it up long as the audience of this website is probably not the type of audience it would be applicable for.

I'm interested in ScratchBack for another reason. I'll be launching a new ad network some time in the coming weeks as well. Like ScratchBack, it's success doesn't hinge on achieving a big critical mass of advertisers and publishers, although it will need some to kick it off. So, I'm interested in seeing some of Jim's marketing strategies, how well they work, and perhaps borrow a few of his marketing strategies myself (I do have some unique marketing strategies which I'll use that haven't really been done in an organized way yet).

Tino Bunticnoreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2074681513024527904.post-52622038367177816592007-10-24T14:40:00.000-05:002007-10-24T13:40:25.291-05:00Join The Conversation - Joseph JaffeI don't normally buy marketing books, but I bought one... for the cover. Yeah, Right.Business Week recently did a survey asking how salespeople get generate their sales leads. The top three results were:

1. Referrals from clients (22%)
2. general referrals (16%)
3. Cold calling (13%)

So, cold calling is the third most popular method of generating sales leads. Does this mean it still works? Business Week tends to think so. I don't. Just because 13% of salespeople, according to their survey, do it doesn't mean it works. It just means that people are still doing it.

So salespeople still cold call. Even with all of the modern sales prospecting methods now available, they still do it. That's unbelievable to me.

Tino Bunticnoreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2074681513024527904.post-54522691849046875142007-08-13T23:39:00.000-05:002007-08-13T22:39:15.490-05:00Becoming An Online Marketer - About.com Online Advertising Shows You HowAbout.com receives over 30 million visitors every month. I never would have imagined an auction for sales leads. I guess it'll be like eBay for leads???

He didn't provide a link to the site so I wasn't able to check it out. This could work if he creates a marketplace with enough buyers and sellers and if the bidding and receiving process isn't too time consuming. One thing that should be taken into account, if it hasn't already, is that a lot of people buy leads because the prospecting process is so time consuming and, hence, expensive (time = money). So, the bidding and buying process shouldn't be time-intensive because that could defeat the purpose of buying leads.

*** Be sure to create a TradePals profile to receive free sales leads. I stumbled upon Logo Design Studio. I remember them being great to work with. So, when I needed another logo for a new project, I went to them again. Last time, I wanted monkeys in the logo (TradePals logo). This time I wanted a polar bear. It's so easy working with them - you tell them what you want and the very next day, you get two logo mock-ups sitting in your inbox. You choose the one you want and make an unlimited number of revisions (although, you probably won't need to revise much because they almost get it perfect from the start). For just $50 a logo, it's got to be the best deal out there.

Tino Bunticnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2074681513024527904.post-87670002317505543252007-05-08T01:11:00.000-05:002007-05-08T00:11:56.884-05:00Future Of Online Advertising (FOOA) New york Conference AttendeesI'm looking forward to travelling to New York for the Future Of Online Advertising (FOOA) conference. I always find myself in the same predicament every time I'm at Blockbuster - I see a movie that looks interesting but I'm afraid to rent it because I've never heard of it. As always, I have to base my decision on the plot description and photos of the movie on the back of the box. That's not a good way to make a movie rental decision.

I always wish there was some way to view the trailer at the video rental store to make it easier for me. Why hasn't someone produced an on-demand movie-trailer kiosk for video rental stores? It should be easy enough. I'm sure the technology to do it is available. Someone can build a searchable database of movies that could be placed in rental stores where consumers can find the trailer they want via a touch-screen monitor and watch any trailer they want.

Perhaps that's a good business idea if someone were to build this type of kiosk and sell them to the big movie-rental chains. Or maybe Blockbuster can just make it themselves. It sure would be beneficial to consumers and, perhaps, bring more people into the stores.

Tino Bunticnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2074681513024527904.post-87717155548037507412007-04-29T14:20:00.000-05:002007-04-29T13:20:19.291-05:00Who Can Get Free Advertising From TradePals?Over 2,250 business professionals have created a TradePals profile to advertise their services for free. I find it hard to believe that so many people hate the concept of product placement, yet most don't complain about television or radio commercials interrupting regular programming. If I had my way, I'd rather have paid product placement appear directly in the media and skip ads that interrupt altogether. That way, the commercials appear integrated right into the program with no interruptions. If somebody drinks pop in a television show, Coca-Cola may as well pay to show their brand rather than interrupt the program with a commercial.

I'm thinking now about paid product placement in movies. It works. It worked for ET and it worked for many other paid placements. How about this concept... Put more product placements in movies. I mean, a lot more. Make it Accessible to more companies to participate (not just big companies like Hershey's, Coca-Cola, and Exxon). This will increase revenue for Hollwood movie studios. Next, reduce the movie ticket prices to zero or something nominal, like $1. Subsidize the movie chains for this. This will lead to a massive increase in people going to the movies. More people going to the movies will make product placements in those movies even more appealing and advertisers will put more money into it - that means higher revenue for movie studios. Now everybody wins. Advertisers get to reach more people, studios get more ad revenue, consumers get to watch more movies.

Tino Bunticnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2074681513024527904.post-71053657969578913422007-04-21T14:31:00.000-05:002007-04-21T13:33:19.868-05:00Making It A Little GreaterMaking "Making It Great" just a little bit greater, only just because I like this logo:

Tino Bunticnoreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2074681513024527904.post-57299820160006269442007-04-16T10:48:00.000-05:002007-04-16T09:48:12.070-05:00I Love AdvertisingI was in New York one day last week. I always stop by Times Square when ever I'm there because I like the feel of it and the energy. I was thinking, Times Square would not be the same without advertising. Advertising helps make it pretty. Take down the ads and billboards and it just wouldn't be the same. The M&M's animation there now looks pretty cool. That just helped me realize that I love advertising.

Tino Bunticnoreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2074681513024527904.post-11068890586305891022007-04-15T23:49:00.000-05:002007-04-15T22:48:40.832-05:00Dateline's To Catch A Link BuyerToday, while sipping on my Coca-Cola and lounging comfortably in my favorite Adidas t-shirt, i went on over to Matt Cutts' blog, as I often do. Cutts is a Google engineer and many visit his blog to find out the latest about what's happening with Google. many are criticizing one of his recent posts about reporting paid links to Google so that the participating sites could be appropriately penalized.

Why is this so controversial? Google's in charge of the internet (well, not really; but because they are the main source of traffic and income for the majority of websites, Google might as well be. That kind of makes Matt Cutts the CEO of the internet) and, so, webmasters must follow Google's rules. So when Google says that you must not buy links that influence it's search algorithms, people take notice. A lot of people buy links as a means of bettering their website's PageRank, which is one of Google's metrics for search results placement. So, this is causing quite some controversy as many will now be scrambling to take appropriate measures.

Matt is urging people to report paid links. I think there are better ways to do it. I'd like to see a sting operation where dummy websites with PR8 are set up to advertise the selling of links. They can lure and entrap link buyers. Dateline could be there to film and publicly shame these purchasers of links. Yes, getting penalized by Google is the online equivalent of shame. Once caught by Google, nobody online will give you the time of day. It's like being left for dead.

Even the FTC, FCC, Payola and product placement have been drawn into the debate. Who'd have thought that the purchasing of links would be so controversial? Buying links isn't illegal. Anybody can do it if they please. But if you like the traffic that Google provides, it probably isn't a good idea anymore.

Tino Bunticnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2074681513024527904.post-70582444207872120122007-04-10T14:10:00.000-05:002007-04-10T13:10:58.616-05:00How Do You Get Free Business Sales Leads? How do you get free business sales leads?
