the flamingos are coming.

for weeks there have been plastic flamingos all around the zoo and surrounding neighborhoods out in front of shops and restaurants announcing that the "flamingos are coming!"

these flamingos were not really very pink. and they did not move. at all.

but this guy did! elephants walk much faster then i thought.
ponytails! ava + maggie!

halo got to pet a blue-tongued skink which was very exciting because he has read many many many times about this particular lizard in a book he has about freaky animals called "freak out". his tongue was indeed a bright neon blue.

Today one of the many elevators at the veterans affairs hospital in seattle smelled like the boys i ran with in jr high back in fresno. the doors opened, stalled halfway for a few seconds, and then all the way wide. i stepped in and was hit with it, like a time machine. cigarette smoke, peach schnapps, and drakkar aftershave all swirling in a 3 x 8 box.

i chewed my lip all 6 floors up.
it was half my life ago exactly.
i still get excited like i used to.
i still miss people like i used to.

i am glad for both.

happy as a clam with a cantaloupe smile. the good weather just keeps on hanging around and i couldn't be happier. school is out for summer and halo goes to summer camp and comes home covered in sand and sweat. it reminds me so much of being young and free and what it felt like the last day of school waiting for the bell to ring. the excitement stirring and the sun shining. i hope he remembers these days forever.

omg you guys it's totally summer! it takes forever to arrive here in the northwest but i think this is it for real. the sun has been out for more than 3 days in a row and i hear it might even be hot this weekend, like above 80!

here is proof, the freckles are out in full force!

someone has been practicing their karate moves. we went to see kung fu panda after which halo explained that his friend issac had seen the movie 3 times so he must be a kung fu master by now.

there are some new guys on the mantle.

and someone got stuck under the bell jar! those hands are praying for the sun to stay.

i'm pretty sure i post this illo for every friday the 13th but oh well. today while walking to my building at work in front of my path was a large black crow. i thought it was sort of squatting down at first but as i got closer i saw it was laying. still. not moving. at all. when it was right in front of my feet at a part in the path that i had to step over it if i wanted to cross, i for sure came to the conclusion that it was dead. an ominous way to start this friday the 13th , but what would you expect really? it was a strange sight to see as it looked like it had just keeled over. crow heart attack?

tonight will be the night that i will fall for you.

sometimes i am in love with everything. i will be walking along and boom it hits me. the trees, the sky, the way halo's hair looks like it has gold in it when the sun hits it. all these things make me feel uncontrollably happy, and also overwhelmed. like i can't handle it. it usually makes me cry which is not the reaction i want to be having. i don't know why this happens but i am glad for it, that i can get so worked up about everyday things. today doesn't feel like that though, which i am also glad for.

we are going to mexico in 3 days and i am going to show my kid what a beach really is. i can't wait.

it's hard to feel bad.

i am so rude, i forgot my blogs birthday! this little guy is 2 years old!
here is what i have been into lately:

octopus bacon!! i am not kidding. that is a scallop wrapped in bacon made from an octopus and it is the best thing i have ever eaten. trust.

paul was sad the octopus bacon came so quickly into our lives, and was gone just like that.

1. i've been thinking about getting a penpal. maybe I should get a PO box first. i wouldn’t want anyone to hand deliver a letter. i would probably answer the door in my pajamas with paint all over them and be too worried about what the neighbors might think to actually enjoy the mail. whenever the doorbell rings unexpectedly i feel terrified. i want to read a letter from a stranger and if it is delivered by the author then they are not really a stranger anymore. I think most the time the internet is great. and lately its been like when you walk into a bar and its filled with babes and they are all really smart and interesting but not at all pretentious, so its been really good checking out links and what not. but I am worried about the amount of time i spend with internet, so maybe i should get back to handwriting and reading things on paper. maybe that is wasteful, but i am going to give it a shot.

2. i like when people update their blogs constantly. it makes me feel more productive if i am reading their blogs at work.

3. i would like hotmail to add a delete button at the bottom of the page as well as the top, so you don't have to scroll all the way back up after you read an email you want to delete. some options down there at the bottom would be nice. i can't bring myself to fully stop using the hotmail account that was my first email account ever started when i was 14 even though it is only spam now.

4. dear anyone who makes/designs clothes: please stop producing "shrunken" cardigans, cropped tops, or anything that is tiny fit. i spent the usual amount of time as a little girl and it was pretty great, but i don't really want to dress like i kept my clothes from 20 years ago regardless of my growth. i am a woman, i would like to look like one. thanks.

5. how do deadbeat dads have any friends? or girlfriends? why does no one care about these things.

some nights it's just a crush some nights it's bloodlust.

i'm pretty sure this year is starting of with some epic highs and lows. it's confusing me. i am trying to stick to the posi side. i took a train last weekend to canada so that was good, photos forthcoming of some amazing food. and a new art show coming on february 1st!
