GetYerGoat Asking for Goat Owners to Boycott SONY!

Outraged and sickened by this display of complete disregard for a goat's life! GetYerGoat is asking anyone who reads this blog to BOYCOTT SONY for this unnecessary need to having a goat butchered to lay it's warm body on a table to launch a new Sony video game- while party goers are asked to reach inside the warm decapitated body of this recently butchered goat and eat it's entrails.

"Electronics giant Sony has sparked a major row over animal cruelty and the ethics of the computer industry by using a freshly slaughtered goat to promote a violent video game. The corpse of the decapitated animal was the centrepiece of a party to celebrate the launch of the God Of War II game for the company's PlayStation 2 console. Guests at the event were even invited to reach inside the goat's still-warm carcass to eat offal from its stomach. Sickening images of the party have appeared in the company's official PlayStation magazine – but after being contacted by The Mail on Sunday, Sony issued an apology for the gruesome stunt and promised to recall the entire print run.

Critics condemned the entertainment giant, which produces scores of Hollywood blockbusters each year, for its "blood lust" and said the grotesque "sacrifice" highlighted increasing concerns over the content of video games and the lengths to which the industry will go to exploit youngsters. The International Fund for Animal Welfare said it was "outrageous" that the animal?s death had been used "to sell a few computer games".

A spokesman said: "We are always opposed to any senseless killing of an animal and this sounds like a gruesome death. We condemn Sony's actions. It is stupid and completely unjustified."

The party features across two pages of the latest edition of the company's PlayStation magazine, which was due to hit newsstands on Tuesday but has already been sent to subscribers.

We have reproduced the spread headlined Sony's Greek Orgy here, but have pixellated the image to spare readers the sight of the goat's decapitated head hanging by a thread of tissue from its corpse, with blood dripping to the floor.

But the magazine's readers were shown the picture in its full horror.

The article, based on a Sony Press release, shows more vivid pictures from the event under headlines such as Topless Girls! and Flesh Eating?

It asks readers how far they would go to get hold of Sony's next-generation console, the PlayStation 3.

"How about eating still warm intestines uncoiled from the carcass of a freshly slaughtered goat? At the party to celebrate God Of War II?s European release, members of the Press were invited to do just that . . ."

In God Of War II, which is so violent it has been given an 18 certificate, players follow Kratos into battle against a series of fearsome characters from Greek mythology.

Sony describes it as "an adult-rated, fast-paced bloodbath and enormous fun to boot", adding that it is "bigger, better and as brutal as ever".

One reviewer said the title featured "the most brutal, visceral combat of any action game".

Former Minister Keith Vaz, Labour MP for Leicester East and a long-time campaigner against violent computer games, branded the stunt "distasteful and irresponsible".

He said: "The slaughter of animals is not something that should be done to advertise a product.

"Sony as a global entertainment company has a social responsibility. At this event it failed in that responsibility.

"I think people should think very carefully before bringing games like this into their homes.

"I would understand if customers wanted to boycott other Sony products such as their televisions because of this controversy."

Sony, based in Japan and run by Welshman Sir Howard Stringer, is one of the largest media organisations in the world, boasting global revenues of £40billion from electronics, video games, music, television programmes and feature films including Spider-Man 3 and Casino Royale.

It is regarded, along with Coca-Cola, Nike and Mercedes-Benz, as one of the world's most valuable brands.

The company, which released the game in the UK on Friday, admitted that the stunt had been a mistake. In a statement it said: "Sony does not condone or sanction any inappropriate behaviour by its staff or sub-contracted staff.

"It has come to our attention that at the God Of War II launch showcase, an element of the event was of an unsuitable nature.

"We are conducting an internal inquiry into aspects of the event in order to learn from the occurrence and put into place measures to ensure that this does not happen again."

The party was held last month in Athens in homage to the game's Greek mythology themes. Revellers partied against the floodlit backdrop of the Parthenon.

The Sony spokesman said the animal had not been slaughtered for the event but had been bought from a local butcher by the Greek company hired to stage the event.

What purported to be warm intestines was actually warm offal.

He said Sony?s UK office had been shocked to see the report in the official PlayStation magazine, which the company licenses to publishing house Future. Sony is this weekend recalling the entire 80,000 print run of the magazine.

The offending article will be removed because of the "sensitivity of the general public over issues of animal welfare".

The firm refused to say how the goat died. It is unusual for animals in modern Greece to be killed by having their throats cut, let alone by being decapitated.

It is not the first time Sony has been involved in controversy over its games. In 2004, the PlayStation 2 game Manhunt was banned by High Street stores in the UK after it was linked to the murder of a 14-year-old Leicester boy.

Last September the relatives of a family massacred by a New Mexico teenager addicted to Grand Theft Auto: Vice City launched a £317million lawsuit against the entertainment company.

And in November, Europe's justice commissioner Franco Frattini was so shocked by the "obscene cruelty and brutality" of Sony?s Rule Of Rose PlayStation game that he wrote to all EU governments urging tighter controls on the "dreadful game".

With tears in my eyes and a very heavy heart- I lost my beloved Willie - He was my gentle giant and so sweet . He kept my billies company and kept them safe. I don;t have many words right now, but he will be missed terribly by all who knew him. I just now came in from the burial and am trying to get myself together so I can go do evening feeding- minus my pretty Willie. He was the sweetest Llama I have ever known .. Fellow Goat Owners in Arlington Virginia are facing losing their precious goats due to an old planning and zoning ordinance- We need to help them by signing a petition for them to use in hearings for allowing the two Nigerian Dwarf Goats to remain on their property as their pets.

There are many many places that deem small goats such as Pygmy goats and Nigerian Dwarf goats as pets- as long as they are not being bred for profit. Rottweilers killed my pygmy goat- Spankie

Born March 6,2007 killed by 4 Rotts May 1,2008- my little Spankie (a black and white pygmy wether yearling) and my Spunkie's only kid.

While I was working on my neighbor's (landord's) interior cross fencing fearing "her" goats would get too close to the neighbor's 6 rottweiler's yard as their pasture and Rotts share a fence- 5 of my goats got out and were eating in my front yard (which they do daily and I am within earshot of them at all times even while at the neighbor's) I heard my dogs pitching a fit and then the donkeys started going off. I looked over at my house in time to see my other 3 neighbor's each walking a huge (150lb or better) Rott by the collars while one Rott walked ahead of them (4 dogs in all) coming down my driveway away from my house. I had put up all my goats before I went to feed my neighbor's goats and these 5 had gotten out to eat at the hay in my front yard. The neighbor's Rotts got out while and ran across 3 yards to get to my goats (according to her faster than she could catch and stop them) she was showing people her pups to sell and 4 of my goats that were out managed to break through the front yard gate and get back in the front goat yard.

Apparently my 2 big boys Bubba and Beau - were big enough that the force of them hitting that gate broke the latch and opened it up for them and Heidi and Sedona to get back in- Spankie didn't make it-

He was brutally killed - throat ripped out and paritially disemboweled right inches from the now OPEN front yard gate. This gate leads into the front goat yard where my BabyGirl her family and all my old and favorite goats live, including the babies born yesterday morning and their momma and my special boy- and Rufus.
I thank God that Spankie died saving the lives of my other goats because had these dogs Not been busy killing him, I fear they would have followed the others right into the front goat yard and a huge dog attack massacre would have resulted. I'm numb, I'm exhausted from emotion and it was just a bad abd bad day.. Spunkie spent most of the night crying for her boy- as she was still nursing this boy and he was her pride and joy. It was pitiful to hear her cry for him.

Laminitis in Goats

When most people think of laminitis or founder, they are reminded of overindulged ponies or horses. Although it is mainly an equine problem, goats are susceptible to founder as well. Goat owners need to be aware of the serious risks involved.

Although no one knows exactly why laminitis occurs there are several situations that predispose a goat to laminitis. It can occur following severe bacterial infections or as a result of diet. For example, if the goat consumes excessive levels of highly fermentable feed, possibly causing acidosis, or when it is fed heavy concentrate rations. Laminitis has also been noted as a complication to many other diseases (most associated with kidding) such as mastitis, metritis (uterine infection), retained placenta, enterotoxemia or even pneumonia.

Pashmina goats face death in icy Himalayas

Thousands of goats that provide fine wool for Kashmir's famous Pashmina shawls are facing death because of heavy snow in the mountainous Ladakh region, officials said on Wednesday.

These goats have been affected by a shortage of food because winter pastures near the Chinese border have been covered after unexpected heavy snowfall.

"Over 90,000 goats are facing shortage of food and many of them will die if fodder cannot be provided immediately," said a government official, Tsering Dorjay, in Ladakh.

Pashmina goats, which grow a thick warm fleece, survive on grass in Ladakh where temperatures plunge to as low as minus 20 degrees celsius.

Local newspapers reported stocks of winter fodder provided by the government had already been exhausted.

"We have requested the army to air-drop fodder into areas which are cut off due to unexpected heavy snowfall," Dorjay said.

After a ban on shahtoosh, the world's finest wool derived from the hair of an endangered Tibetan antelope, shawls made from Pashmina wool are considered some of the world's finest and are exported worldwide.

Three main pastures in Chumur, Kharnak and Sumoriri areas on the Indo-China border are facing the crisis. These areas fall in two blocks of Durduk and Nyoma in Leh district. But Nyoma is the worst affected. Lives of the Changpa nomads who raise these goats and animals and live in tents throughout the year are also not out of danger.

“We have identified three places where Indian Air Force MI-17 helicopters would be air-dropping the fodder on Saturday when the weather would be slighter better,” said Mr Dorjey, adding these areas as Kharnak (southwest of Nyoma), Tejazong (southeast of Leh) and Kurzok near Tsomorari Lake.
The entire area spread over 22,000 square km where these goats go for their winter pastures is cut off from rest of the world. Of the 150,000 Pashmina goats affected by the shortage of food, over 100,000 goats were at risk of death if fodder could not be provided immediately. The pregnant goats have been having miscarriages and the young ones, up to one-year-old, have been dying because of the cold.
The problem facing the Pashmina goats was brought to the authorities’ attention by nomads who had travelled by foot to a district office.

“The Hill Council is working day and night to face the situation. All the resources have been mobilised by the Council and local transport societies are being used to transport fodder to those areas which are open. Ten trucks are being used everyday for relief operations. Four teams have also been made to assess the situation,” informed Mr Dorjey.

‘Blood sucker’ killing farm animals in Capiz?

ROXAS CITY -- Chupacabra, said to be a mystical blood-sucking animal supposedly sighted in Puerto Rico and Latin America, is allegedly making its presence felt in Capiz province and some residents here believe it’s for real.

Some residents of Barangay Dumolog in this city believed that it was a chupacabra that killed eight chickens in their village. The fowls were headless when they were found.

Jojo Canobida, a resident of Sitio Paon of Dumolog, said that it was early in the morning of Jan. 11 when he saw a dog-like animal attacking his chicken. The animal fled when it saw him. Or so he claimed.

Canobida said the animal sucked the blood out of his chickens.

In September last year, two goats in Barangay Lawaan, also this city, were also allegedly attacked by similar animals.

The goats’ owner, engineer Joel Jumbas of the Capiz provincial engineering office, said he could not ascertain who killed his two goats but he said he was told that it might have been a chupacabra because of the manner of killing.

Jumbas said it was his goat caretaker, Wilfredo Fano, who told him about the strange way his goats were killed -- they were found with puncture marks in the neck and their blood sucked out.

Jumbas is raising goats inside the compound of the Provincial Engineer’s Office in Barangay Lawaan near the Capiz Rehabilitation Center.

The chupacabra, which means “goat sucker” in Spanish, is an animal said to be unknown to science and systemically killed animals in places like Puerto Rico, Miami, Nicaragua, Chile, and Mexico. The creature’s name originated with the discovery of some dead goats in Puerto Rico with puncture wounds in their necks and their blood allegedly drained, according to an entry at the Skeptics Dictionary’s website www.skepdic.com.

The owners of the victims originally thought the chupacabra to be a half-human, half-vampire beast. The victims, most often goats and chickens, are reportedly drained of all their blood, but are otherwise left intact. There is usually no other evidence of a struggle or attack -- simply two or sometimes three puncture marks (almost large enough to accommodate a human finger) in the animal’s neck, said another website, www.science.howstuffwork.com.

Stories suggesting Chupacabra activity can be found in newspapers dating back to the 1950s. In fact, the first reported case in North America was in Arizona sometime around 1956. Although incidents have been reported in Arizona, Oregon, Michigan, Illinois, New Jersey, New Mexico, Florida, and parts of Chile, Brazil and Mexico, the majority of activity has occurred in Puerto Rico. A rash of attacks plagued various regions of Puerto Rico in 1995. In Canovanas alone, several hundred livestock fatalities were attributed to the chupacabra, the science.howstuffwork.com said.

I just got this in my email and once again.. Please let me remind ALL goat owners
Do NOT close your goats inside a locked or closed door barn.. KEEP A DOOR OPEN AND DO NOT PLACE THEM IN CLOSED STALLS WITHIN THE BARNS..... you are far better off to have slightly cold goats than burned goats if there is any power source whatsoever going to your barn. This is a horrifying story and I get these time and time again during the kidding season and cold months.. Please folks- leave your barns OPEN..

Arapawa Island goats - doomed to be culled in January - are believed to be
descendants of the Old English goats that died out in the UK during the
severe winter of 1954. There are, worldwide, no more than 360.
Recognising that the Arapawa goat is a separate breed of goat and not a
crossbred feral, the Committee of the Rare Breeds Conservation Society of
New Zealand gave and approved the goats "rare breed priority" listing at
its meeting of 27 May 2004. However, the new Minister for Conservation,
"Stephanie Chadwick, sees them -not as a unique genetic resource - but as vermin.
In connection with her
scheme for removing all "pests" from other islands she recently spoke
of "restoring the islands and repopulating them with rare native species..."
- a sort of ethnic cleansing of fauna to preserve the flora. (The goats
nibble the trees and bushes but do not destroy them.)
