Choir boy didn't deserve it

Donicio Arrindell and an accomplice robbed a Subway restaurant in Florida on Wednesday night around 11:15pm. While forcing a 71 year old customer into a bathroom (there's only one reason they would want him in the bathroom, and it's not robbery), the aforementioned customer (an ex-Marine with a CCW permit) shot both suspects, killing Arrindell.

Sad story, happy ending, right? Not so fast, say Arrindell's relatives.

He should not have taken the law in his hands.

Unless you live in bizarro world, it's called self-defense. You know, our inalienable right as humans in this country?

I don't condone what they did, (but) I definitely don't condone the news people making him out to seem like they're making a hero out of this man because he shot somebody down.

What's wrong with recognizing that victory over evil is the desired outcome? Imagine the same scenario happening in a socialist mecca like Chicago where CCW is nearly impossible. The ex-Marine would have been found dead in the bathroom and Donicio would be laughing it up somewhere instead of six feet under.

DENVER — A 24-year-old female intern with the Colorado Geological Survey radioed for help before she went missing and a man found camping in the area was arrested after her body was found, officials said Wednesday.
Alyssa Heberton Morimoto of Denver, was mapping geological sites Tuesday in the San Isabel National Forest in a remote part of Park County, said Vince Matthews, director of the survey.
..."I don't know how you can prevent something like this," Matthews said, later adding: "I worry about lions and bears all the time with our mappers, but you just don't think about this kind of evil."

Sometimes things are simple, Mr. Matthews:

a) People who work in remote areas need to be encouraged to carry a gun and then trained on how to use it.

b) Don't take a ride from strangers, especially if the first suggestion has been ignored.

Perhaps the USGS should issue sidearms to those to request them and aren't otherwise disqualified. I fear the only ones might object however.

I can't help but notice that your name is not on any of the CCW lists.

From that, should I assume that you have a criminal record of some kind which makes you unsuitable for carrying a firearm?

Unreasonable? No more unreasonable that your assumptions that CCW holders are some sort of abberation that must be publicly identified for the common good. And certainly no more unreasonable than your assumption that the issuing process is flawed and must be revealed to the public as such.

It must be terrible to have such a low opinion of your neighbors. Most of whom, I hope, will not be quick to forget your theatrics.

Let's suppose that I'm a resident in Fairfax VA. While cleaning my gun it discharges (because of my negligence of course) and I end up accidentally killing a family member or someone in the next apartment.

By any wild stretch of the imagination, does anyone suppose that no criminal charges would be filed, not even manslaughter? Absolutely no charges?

Then, try to stay with me here - the police department refuses to identify me by name to the news media.

Welcome to the bizarro world of Fairfax, Virginia. That's exactly what happened there on the night of January 24th, 2006 when Dr. Salvatore Culosi was killed inadvertantly by a SWAT team member.

Both state and federal authorities have declined to pursue criminal charges. I guess a piece of tin is a license to kill in the bizarro world.

The Winston-Salem Journal, bastion of Triad liberal-think, says this about monkeying around with the electoral college process:

The United States is one of the most stable democracies in the world. We owe that blessing to our strong Constitution. Neither the General Assembly in this state, nor any other, should be messing with it.

Let me get this straight. Our "strong Constitution" is why our country is great, and no one has any business messing with it.

A well-regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.

SHALL NOT.

Hence, since certain politicians have poked, prodded, sliced, and obfuscated the original intent of the Second Amendment, they have succeeded in making our country LESS STABLE and have prostituted themselves to those interests who WANT our society weakened.

Other politicians, looking for votes like dogs look for scraps, suddenly pretend to be friends of the Second - with common-sense restrictions, of course - after spending a career acting as if the amendment didn't exist.

For these transgressions there can be no excuse, just as there is no excuse for treason.

I wish he would go ahead and announce his candidacy. With positions like this, how could I not vote for him?

Rudy, Mitt (his recent membership in the NRA fools no one), and John McCain don't trust the citizenry hence their tepid support of the 2nd Amendment. I'd trust them about as far as I could throw them, so the feeling is mutual.

That the State of Virginia shares responsibility for the 32 deaths on the Virginia Tech campus?

I'm not talking about a failure to "protect" its citizens.

What I mean is, when you say it is illegal for one to defends one's self in a certain area (school campuses), then aren't they responsible for what happens to the helpless souls in that area?

Let's say I build a fireworks factory. To save a little green, I do not intall fire suppression systems. Six months later, a huge fire and explosion kills 5 employees. Tell me - whose ass would be in a sling? Would it me mine? DING DING DING DING - you are correct!

The logic is so crystal clear, yet apparently invisible to most of the populace and even more of the politicians.

I'm sick that the incident happened. And sick of our government killing us by trying to help us.

I think it will be better if police officers carry guns, and the rest of us support the police, and depend on them for our security.

No doubt this gentleman is unfamiliar with "the only ones" that he trusts for his safety.

I hate to seem like a party pooper and crash his utopian view of governmental authority, but the police have no responsibility to protect your naiive ass every minute of the day.

So for the nine to fifteen minutes it will take for "the only ones" to get someone to your residence while someone is breaking in, will you be cowering in the corner?

Perhaps the 2008 Dem dream ticket would be Clinton/Chavez. After all, they're both on the same platform and both have the ability to get the elektorate fired up about the evils of capitalism!

That's exactly what Sir Richard Branson wants to do. On Friday, the British billionaire announced in London the Virgin Earth Challenge, a competition offering $25 million to whoever can come up with a way to scrub at least 1 billion tons of CO2 a year from Earth's atmosphere. Worldwide, the burning of fossil fuels releases about 25 billion tons of CO2 annually.

Am I the only one who went to science class in junior high school? Plants consume CO2! Plant bamboo and trees everywhere! Duh - why do you think it called "greenhouse gas?"

I suppose plant nurserymen aren't the benefactors that Sir Richard has in mind...
