New three year Draeger sponsorship deal agreed

Continuing its commitment to the local community, Draeger Safety UK Limited, Fire & Gas Detection Systems (FGDS), has signed a three year sponsorship deal with Blyth Spartans Association Football Club.

As one of the town’s main employers and an advocate of youth training with its own apprenticeship scheme, Draeger FGDS has taken over the sponsorship from its parent company, Draeger Safety. As manufacturers of Fire & Gas detection systems for use throughout industry, the company is focused on life-preserving systems and is always keen to support fitness and associated recreational activities.

Tony Platten, Chairman of the Club, comments “We are delighted to welcome Draeger FGDS and are sure that, as main sponsors of the Club, the company will find our relationship to be both rewarding and enjoyable. Draeger’s continued involvement means that we have a stable financial future and can continue to grow the club. With Draeger Safety’s previous sponsorship deal we secured promotion to the Blue Square Conference North League. The new agreement will allow us to continue improving the standard of football we play and also help with the significantly higher travelling costs involved. Thanks to Draeger, we can now focus on the next stage in the development of the Club and the other services we offer to the community”.

Richard Smith, Sales Director at FGDS, adds “We have always admired the strength, commitment and endurance of the Blyth Spartans and are very pleased to be associated with this excellent Club. Many of our employees support the team and we hope that, with this additional financial assistance, it can go on to enjoy even greater success. With 10 junior boys teams, two junior girls and two ladies teams, the Club offers an excellent programme of activities for players and spectators alike. In addition, it recognises other issues within the local community and, wherever possible, does what it can to help.”

Tony Platten explains, “Financial support of this kind has helped us to increase our involvement locally, in line with our status as an FA Charter Club. For example, as part of the “Playing For Success Scheme”, run in conjunction with Northumberland Education Committee, a new IT suite has just been opened at Croft Park and a new IT manager will be working with children and teenagers from the local community. This means that they will now have the opportunity to learn computer skills such as word processing, graphic design and spreadsheets by emulating the management and administrative tasks found within a football club.”

Draeger Safety Division offers products, services and system solutions for all encompassing Risk Management such as personal and facility protection. Customised system solutions include workshops, training and breathing gas management systems, diving, rescue and high temperature training systems, and tunnel rescue trains.

Legends Match Off

Due to continuing enquires, Blyth Spartans would like to confirm once again that the charity game, arranged by Asington and Blyth Spartans, between Newcastle and Sunderland legends which was initially scheduled to be played at Croft Park on Sunday the 20th of July has been CANCELLED. May we apologies for any inconveniences caused.

Newcastle match postponed

I received a call from Newcastle United on Friday, informing me that the match arranged for the 28th of July can not go ahead due to player availability. Adam Sadler, the reserve team manager, has attempted to re-arrange the match over the weekend but has rang this morning to confirm that the game can not be arranged for pre-season.
Like the Sunderland Reserve game, the Newcastle Reserves game will be re-arranged for sometime in the season. We again must apologise to our supporters.

Re-arranged fixture

Following on from the cancellation of the Dumbarton pre-season fixture, Cowdenbeath have also cancelled their fixture with Dunston Federation. Therefore on the 12th of July Spartans will be visiting DUNSTON ON THE 12th OF JULY FOR A 3 PM KICK OFF.

Top goal scorer Robert Dale has re-signed, on contract, for a two year period. Ex Gateshead and Whitby goalkeeper Mark Bell has been signed to replace the departed Adam Bartlett, and that Gareth Williams, Andrew Johnson and Kenny Boyle have also committed themselves to Spartans for a further season.

" I HAVE BEEN TOLD THAT ACCORDING TO THE DUMBARTON WEBSITE OUR MATCH ARRANGED FOR THE 12th of JULY HAS BEEN CALLED OFF. I HAVE SPOKEN TO THE SECRETARY OF DUMBARTON THIS MORNING, AS I HAVE HAD NO OFFICIAL NOTIFICATION FROM THE CLUB. HE HAS CONFIRMED THE GAME HAS BEEN CANCELLED BY "THE DIRECTORS"
I HAVE IN FACT TURNED AWAY TWO OTHER SCOTTISH CLUBS WHO WISHED TO PLAY US ON THE DAY, A POINT I HAVE MADE TO THE DUMBARTON SECRETARY. I HAVE INSISTED THAT HE CONFIRMS TO ME, IN WRITING, WHY THIS GAME HAS BEEN CALLED OFF AND WHY THE CLUB WAS NOT INFORMED DIRECTLY.
ONCE AGAIN WE MUST APOLOGISE TO OUR SUPPORTERS FOR ANY INCONVENIENCES WE MAY HAVE CAUSED.

Social Club Happy Hour

The friendly against Partick Thistle on Saturday 5th July is the start of the new season.

To mark the ocassion Blyth Spartans are please to announce that the Social Club will open at 12.00 mid-day with a “Happy Hour” until 2.00pm. There will be discounts on beer and larger and special offers on spirits. A free buffet will also be served.

The Spartans management look forward to seeing supporters old and new with a special welcome to our visitors from Scotland.

As usual the big screens will be showing sports action and pool will be available in the bar.

Squad and fixture update

1. The club are pleased to announce that both Chris McCabe and Gary Brown have agreed terms for the 2008/09 season.

2. Unfortunately due to other commitments Sunderland are unable to play at Croft Park on the 23rd of July. This fixture will however be re-arranged for a later date. We have added the following fixture to our pre-season calendar,

Morpeth match re-arranged

Having received a call from Morpeth Town it seems that a break in at Craik Park will prevent our pre-season fixture from being held at the ground and therefore the match will be switched to Croft Park on SATURDAY the 2nd OF AUGUST with a 3 PM kick off. Apparently after suffering a break in at the social club vandals have now broken into the changing rooms and left them unusable with no showers.
