I had managed to catch a 34 inch Chinook salmon, my first ever of that elusive fish in those waters. I had cleaned it myself when my then boyfriend decided to give my beauty one last swish over the side and DROPPED IT. Against my rather frantic and vociferous urging he refused to dive in after and retrieve it before it sunk out of sight. The thought of spending three more weeks on a 24 foot sail boat with a guy I wasn’t speaking to was feeling like the beginning of a tabloid horror story. I skipped ship at Cowichan Bay, that night’s anchorage and managed a to catch a ride home on a Seattle bound boat a few days later.
