The average American TV Audience....they really do love their crime procedurals! From the new batch of shows that had its debut this fall, this is the #1, the leader of the pack, averaging 17Million viewers a week:

With too many crime series in their line-up, you'd think viewers would have to be so sick of the format by now. But, apparently for every CSI and Detective present on TV, there's a big possibility it's going to be a hit. On American TV, crime DOES pay.

Now, I have to get my hands on a few episodes of NCIS LA and see if it's really any good!

OMG. The Equalizer Is Dead.

It was one of TV's Greatest back in the 80's. I remember watching this show as a kid, though I don't recall so much of the story now. I do know I thought it had a really cool opening music back then. Plus the lead guy's name had strong recall: EdWARD WoodWARD.

Just a few hours ago, newswires have reported him dead.

LONDON — Edward Woodward, the star of films including "Breaker Morant" and "The Wicker Man," died Monday. He was 79.

Woodward, who starred at "The Equalizer" on television, died in a hospital in Cornwall after an illness, said Janet Glass of the Eric Glass Ltd. agency in London.

He won an Emmy Award in 1990 for "Remembering World War II" and a Golden Globe in 1987 for "The Equalizer," which ran for 88 episodes from 1985 to 1989 on the U.S. network CBS.

In a career that began in 1946 in a regional production of "A Kiss for Cinderella," Woodward played roles in productions ranging from the popular British soap opera "Eastenders" to productions of Shakespeare, and at least 40 films for theater or television.

His last film appearances were in "Hot Fuzz" in 2007 and "Congregation of Ghosts," now in post-production.

He also recorded several albums including "Love is the Key" in 1977 and "The Jewel that was Ours" in 1994.

"I think I've probably more television than any actor living," Woodward said in a 1987 interview with The Associated Press. "I've done over 2,000, could be 3,000 now, television productions."

There's some really good comedy in the show, The Middle. And there's not a lot of buzz surrounding it. Yet.

If you aren't watching (and why haven't you??!), it's this family series starring Patricia Heaton, Neil Flynn (the Janitor from Scrubs) and their three....very strange kids. It's a lot like Malcolm in The Middle in a way. But The Middle zeroes in on the role of the mother more. After all, she tells the story in every episode.

I'm no big fan of Patricia Heaton. I used to not like her character on Everybody Loves Raymond thinking she's so uptight. And I thought she was worse on Back To You....Just something about her isn't likeable.

I don't know what changed this time. It's like with each episode I watch of The Middle every week, there's a voice in my head saying it wouldn't mind if Patricia Heaton wins another award for this one.

Now that we're popping old episodes of Raymond on DVD, I see her from a different angle. She is a wonderful actress.

Apart from her, Neil Flynn and the kids do an amazing job playing supporting cast. Flynn always was great with his delivery and timing. If you're watching Scrubs, you know what I mean. And the kids? I don't even know where to begin describing them. But I guess it's enough to say they make this show a lot, lot, lot more worth watching.

Is this going to be a spectacle or a disaster?

Roland Emmerich develops '2012' TV series

2012 director Roland Emmerich has confirmed that a TV series based on the movie is in development.

The filmmaker's latest cinematic effort centres on mass destruction as the end of the world approaches, though he believes there’s "plenty to do in a TV show", Entertainment Weekly reports.

The 53-year-old also revealed that Grey's Anatomy producer Mark Gordon, who is also an executive producer on his disaster film, would be attached to the potential project.

Emmerich said: "The plan is that it is 2013 and it's about what happens after the disaster. It is about the resettling of Earth. That is very, very fascinating."

Gordon has reportedly begun talks with ABC about the show and he stated that the network "will have an opening in their disaster-related programming after Lost ends".

He added: "After the movie, there are some people who survive and the question is how will these survivors build a new world and what will it look like. That might make an interesting TV series."

A spokesperson for ABC declined to comment on discussions about the prospect of the film being adapted into a series.

I'm pretty sure it wouldn't have John Cusack, since he doesn't do TV. But, if Emmerich is able to convince him to? All the more reason to watch it.

(I have not yet seen the movie. Wouldn't know if Cusack's character died....I'm guessing he did. But don't spoil it for me.)

Sue Sylvester is in my Cafe at Cafe World

I know it may sound pathetic when I say I'm addicted to Cafe World. It's this game application available on Facebook that lets you run your little restaurant and I've been hooked like crazy. I just love decorating and redecorating, which I know I can do on Yoville or Pet Society (Facebook speak, sorry!) but this is the only application that's running faster on my laptop. :P

My cafe is named Cafe' Nervosa. Those of you who followed Frasier for 11 seasons may find that name very familiar. Although, I didn't follow Nervosa down to a tee. Its interiors are in wood, dark brown, dark green and deep red, as I remember it. But I fell in love with the French-y blue chairs they have on Cafe World and went with that instead.

Anyway, once in a while I have a customer coming in wearing a yellow track suit and has blonde hair. And she reminds me so much of Sue Sylvester from Glee!

The Beautiful Life Gets A Slight Second Chance

While I did not especially like this show that much, I was sorry to learn that after two episodes, The CW decided to cancel The Beautiful Life. That decision was wicked. To be fair, the shows not THAT bad. But two episodes aired only? Heartless!

But thankfully for everyone, the network has had a change of heart!

Although The Beautiful Life isn't un-cancelled and no more production is going on, The CW has decided to air the remaining episodes already shot later in the season.

What season they're referring to....we don't know. But at least there's something to look forward to, huh?

The other reason why I love watching Glee, aside from the singing and the dancing?

I'll give you a clue --- she's cheeky, she's colorful, she's this doe-eyed retro-geek you see in all these photos below.

She's Emma Pillsbury, the adorable Guidance Counsellor and Glee's resident neat freak. Does she not have the cutest sets of clothes and accessories?? Ever?

Jayma Mays, the actress who plays her, calls the style "quirky-chic". There's plenty of adjectives to describe it ---- prim, vintage, classic, retro, geeky. It's so unlike my previous fashion figure of choice, Addison (Kate Walsh), who usually wears these sophisticated designer clothes on Private Practice.

Lou Eyrich is the costume designer for Emma and the rest of the cast of Glee, who last week dressed the girls up in eyelets, laces and sunshine-y yellow:

And because of this, I've been obsessing on vintage clothes on Ebay, finding the perfect Emma blouse.

Must. Resist. The. Urge. :P

Aus Idol: Single Ladies Fever and a Single Lady Who Needs Make-Up Tips

The song, Single Ladies, has been played many times, copied many times, done many times...it's everywhere. People have the Single Ladies fever and I guess it's that kind of song that will never get old now. I do not especially like Beyonce all that much, nor am I a big fan of any of her songs, including this. But when you hear it often enough, you're programmed to like it no matter what.

The other week, I heard it on Glee. I have yet to get the song out of my head when this week, someone from Australian Idol chose it for Big Band Night. It's a risk to sing this with such a theme, but because Stan Walker's got a beautiful tone and melody to his voice, it paid off:

I enjoyed that, but I liked this performance for Big Band night better:

And one of them chose to sing Sinatra's My Way which sounded odd but heartfelt and vulnerable, it makes me ambivalent. Did I like it? Hate it? Was it bad? Good? You judge:

Fun, fun night. Yet no one really made the hair in my arms stand, unlike in past seasons.

Anyway, something has been bugging me for the past weeks watching this show.

Someone ought to fire the host's Ricki-Lee's make-up and hair stylist, please. I mean, why would anyone let her come out on TV with her blush looking like a clown and her eyes looking like a raccoon? Seriously.

Such a good-looking lady but, the hair and the make-up? Awful! I know she's only in her late 20's but....

Just got caught up with the most recent episode of Brothers & Sisters (Season 3, Episode 2), with Kitty's cancer. So, here is what I wanna say about it ------- "WAAAAAAAAAAAH!!!"

What an emotional episode!

I have no words.

My eyes aren't dry yet.

What every Office fan has been waiting for: Jim and Pam got married today.

I stayed away from spoilers sites once I saw the first photos of Pam in a wedding dress a month ago and had little expectation for whatI was about to watch. If I had been at the wedding? I would've definitely enjoyed it!

Four years ago, I was just a guy who had a crush on a girl who had a boyfriend. And I had to do the hardest thing I ever had to do, which was just to wait. Don’t get me wrong I flirted with her. Pam, I can now admit in front of friends and family that I do know how to make a photocopy. I didn’t need your help that many times. And do you remember how long it took you to teach me to drive stick? (Pam: Like a year). I’ve been driving stick since high school. For a really long time that’s all I had. Little moments with a girl who saw me as a friend. And a lot of people told me I was crazy to wait this long for a date with a girl who I worked with, but I think, even then I knew, I was waiting for my wife.

I bought that boat tickets the day I saw that Youtube video. I knew we needed a back-up plan. The boat was actually plan C, the church was plan B. And plan A was marrying her a long, long time ago…pretty much the day I met her.

Picked Up: Cougar Town, Modern Family, Middle

Back! But not in the full swim of things yet. Things are still not back to normal here. We're experiencing rotating blackouts and that gets in the way of TV watching.

Anyway, just popped in to post this news... Cougar Town, Modern Family and The Middle have been picked up for a full season.

An ABC rep confirms that the network has extended full-season orders to freshman comedies Modern Family, Cougar Town, and The Middle.

Despite experiencing some slippage last night, all three shows have performed solidly in the ratings. Creatively speaking, they’re firing on all cylinders — particularly Modern Family, which continues to live up to all my the hype.

No word yet on back-nine pickups for fellow newbies FlashForward, Hank, Eastwick, and The Forgotten.

Three episodes down and I'm seeing less of Monica Geller on Courtney Cox in Cougar Town. She really got into the role quite well. What did I say the first time? She is so comfortable doing comedy better than drama. I still keep hearing "Emmy!" in my head when I watch her.

I'm kinda liking The Middle, which I didn't expect I would. Reminds me so much of Malcolm in the Middle, alright, but I don't mind..it's still funny and entertaining. The youngest kid who whispers to himself? Adorable!

Save for the pilot, haven't had the chance to watch the other episodes of Modern Family yet but I do like this one, so am glad it's getting a full season. Hooray!

Couldn't, as yet, go back to regular programming, folks. My connection online is temporarily sloooooow, as service in our area is still being restored (no thanks to tropical storm Ondoy!).

The last new show I've seen before calamity struck our place was Eastwick --- which I loved. Have prepared something to write about it afterwards, which I was supposed to be posting before blackout affected our area. Anyway, here's what I was supposed to share ---

Expected so little from this TV adaptation of an 80's film (starring Jack Nicholson, Cher, Susan Sarandon & Michelle Pfeifer). The reviews for it have been unkind. But I think I've become one of the few who actually found the TV series entertaining (starring Paul Gross, Rebecca Romjin, Lindsay Price & Jamie Ray Newman).

KorbiTV calls it Desperate Housewitches. I can't think of a better monicker. It does have that quaint Desperate Housewives feel. But throw in a little of Charmed's darkness…and you have a show so entertaining, with a lot of potential.

Paul Gross as the devil does decently. He's going to be compared big time to Jack Nicholson but I think he does alright. Sometimes, he even sounds like Nicholson.

The three ladies, who in the premiere have yet to discover their power, have a wonderful chemistry. Their characters are pretty standard and unoriginal, but I've easily fallen in love with them….Lindsay Price, especially (who I liked very much in Lipstick Jungle). Even Sara Rue (who play's Price's best friend) is a joy to watch.

It's light and fluffy, this series…which I think presents a good option for us viewers since most other programs falling in their time slot are so serious.

Anyhow, I'm missing tons of shows from last week and I expect to be missing a lot more. :( I am so bummed.

In the meantime, and as I wait for our high-speed connection restoration, I've been watching Dollhouse's first season. I know I said I didn't like it the first time I watched it. And I truly had to patiently sit through a couple more episodes to warm up to it. But, after watching Season 1 over the week, I have to say that it improved and got better and better. Joss Whedon? Still a genius!

I also finished Drop Dead Diva, another show I said I could't stand watching longer the first time. Glad I sat through that, too. The final episode for the first season had me considerably entertained.

I am also following up on Greek Season 3 and Raising The Bar Season 1. If am going to stay offline for a longer time, then I have five seasons of The Wire to finally start gorging into.

Oh, and I am dropping Vampire Diaries from my list. It's an okay show...but really not for me.

Flashforward Series Premiere

The whole population on Earth blacks out for 2 minutes and 17 seconds. While "asleep" the people get flashes of a future that takes place six months from now. Awake and fully aware of this cataclysmic event, some of them corroborated each other's visions, while others weren't so lucky to get one (which means they could already be dead in six months). Some found new life in what they "saw", others are mostly afraid of what the future holds. But the question remains --- why is this happening and what does it mean?

This is the incredible premise of Flashforward. It makes for a really good story, only if the writing is well executed. Sadly, for now, this is where I think the show is really weak. Maybe it was coz I had high expectations, but I was easily disappointed the first few minutes, waiting for awesome story-telling to win me over.

Although, I can name plenty of reasons to love Flashforward --- British actors Joseph Fiennes, Sonya Walger and Jack Davenport. Yeah, the cast list is impressive. Hope they won't be handicapped when the writing department needs to improve.

In the technical side of things, cinematography for this series is laudable. Shots are very beautiful and vibrant. But, I have to say, the show needs a decent soundtrack (which Lost has carefully mastered already) to help with the story-telling.

That moment of awesomeness came to me in the last few minutes of the program when the FBI discovered one guy in mysterious black trench coat (he had to be this awesome!) wandering about the football stadium as everyone dropped unconscious. If everyone in the world "fell like flies" for that short period, who and why is there one guy who remained fully awake the whole time??? And this is why I'm sticking around for more!

Canceled: The Beautiful Life

First cancelation of the season...and it's just the second week of premieres!

We have the first casualty of the fall season.

After two episodes, The CW has canceled Ashton Kutcher's scripted drama "The Beautiful Life."

Production on the the show, which had been filming its seventh episode, was shut down Friday.

Wednesday's episode was seen by just 1 million viewers and generated a 0.5 rating in the adult demo.

The decision comes on the heels of two reality show pickups by the network, "Fly Girls" and a Tinsley Mortimer docusoap.

The CW's freshman revamp of "Melrose Place" has had difficulty achieving liftoff as well, but Thursday night's "Vampire Diaries" has been performing strong. Last night's third "Diaries" episode grew in the adult demo despite facing increased competition.

The CW has not yet announced a replacement for the "Beautiful Life" slot. The new reality shows won't be ready until January. One option is airing "Melrose Place" encores (like the way the network double-pumped "90210" last season). Another option, less likely, is to bring "Smallville" back into the midweek mix. "Smallville" was shifted to Friday nights for its final season and debuts this evening.

The main driver behind the CW’s order to“TBL” was the similarity in setting with the network’s veteran reality series “America’s Next top Model,” which served as its lead-in on Wednesday.

“TBL” got a lot of pre-launch publicity stemming from the medical problems of star Mischa Barton.

In July, the show’s production also was postponed by a week because the stages were not ready.

TV Ratings 9.25.09 - Flashforward Has a Fast Start!

Much hyped new drama series Flashforward debuts with really good numbers at 12.4M. It leads the pack in its slot, besting Survivor, a consistent top-rater.

Grey's Anatomy had its lowest premiere record in all of its six seasons, but remains the number one on Thursday nights and is still huge among the 18-49 target demo. CSI closely follows.

The Mentalist, now moved from Tuesdays, does well with 14.3M.

Breaking: Cameron is Leaving House

In all honestly, I could actually go with the House that aired last premiere ('twas good TV, that!) and could care less about the rest....oh, as long as Wilson is still there.

This news from NY Daily:

Actress Jennifer Morrison is leaving the Emmy award winning show, according to EW.com.

Though neither Fox nor Morrison's reps would confirm the departure, EW.com reports the blonde beauty did not quit, but instead is likely being written out of the script as a creative

decision on the part of the producers.

Distraught fans might find some solace in the fact that Morrison's character, Dr. Alice Cameron - a main member of Dr. House's diagnostic team - will supposedly not be killed off the way Kutner (played by Kal Penn) was last season.

Additionally, inside sources say that Dr. Cameron's husband, Dr. Robert Chase (played by Jesse Spencer) will not be departing the cast, leaving plenty of room for suspicion about what's in store for both characters.

"House" devotees might recall that it was only a few months back that series creator David Shore told EW.com that "Chase and Cameron fans will be happy with the way we're going to reintegrate them into the team."

Even Morrison herself admitted that she was looking forward to the new season, telling EW. com, "I have been working a lot. And there are things that happen to 'House' very early in the season that have a domino effect on all of the other characters."

So much for that idea, it seems.

Season 6 of "House" premiered Monday on Fox, with House confined to a mental hospital for his Vicodin addiction and frequent hallucinations.

TV Ratings 9.24.09 - Modern Family & Cougar Town Massive!

So I was wrong. Viewers loved Modern Family, which premiered last night at 12.7M (4.3M in the 18-49 market). Cougar Town also did considerably well following MF with 11.4M, retaining the same market.

Mercy, also a debuting series, is still lukewarm at this point, as is Eastwick.

Glee contends with the premiere of MF and CT with 6.62M only but was equally decent and solid, retaining its target demographic.

Glaring results for The Beautiful Life which has slide way down, with only 0.5M viewership from its target.

So overwhelmed with Wednesday's TV line up...too exhausted to post per show watched. In putting my .02cents in, I'm doing this bullet style instead.

Modern Family, Pilot Episode
- Liking that it is done mockumentary style.
- Like that this is really a reflection of what a typical family is these days.
- Ty Burrel as the oblivious father? Most hilarious character.
- When a family schedules when they can shoot their son as a form of punishment (he shot his sister with a pellet gun; an eye for an eye)... it has to be the funniest!
- Too many stars from previously cancelled shows ended up in this one.
- Big, big cast but no problem with chemistry. Likeable, all....every bit of them, including the kids.
- "Circle of Life"? Crazy.
- Really liked it but I have a funny feeling it's not going to be well-received by the mainstream audience. Still too offbeat, me thinks.

Cougar Town, Pilot Episode
- First 10 minutes had me. The voices inside my head were screaming "Emmy for Courtney!"
- Then it went downhill. Felt like the first half of this was laid out perfectly, the other half was so crammed it was uneven. I think I remember reading somewhere they had to re-tool the pilot? Guess too many changes spoiled it.
- Love the mother/son dynamic. Love that kid who plays her son (from Aliens in America).
- Actually...love every bit of the characters, including the ex-husband.
- Hope it finds its direction because it is potentially funny.

Glee, Episode 4: Preggers
- Favorite moment of the week video, I could not stop grinning while watching this:

Gary Unmarried, Season 2 Premiere
- I actually missed this show and was glad it's back. Not watching it? Try it. Witty lines.
- The brother is a regular now?
- New job for Gary, so new characters from work, too? And possibly a new girlfriend? This is getting interesting!
- The actor playing the son is going to be the future Neil Patrick Harris. He's comedic timing is perfect and he's only about 14 (15?).

TV Ratings 09.23.09 - NCIS (and spin-off) Dominates

Crime shows ruled this night with huge openings for NCIS, it's spin-off NCIS: Los Angeles.

Of the two new shows up against each other --- The Good Wife and Christian Slater's new starrer, The Forgotten, the former edged out.

The remake of Melrose Place, which premiered a couple of weeks earlier, is really struggling that's why the big guns are now calling on Heather Locklear to guest star.

The Good Wife Pilot Episode

The opening scene to The Good Wife is all too familiar --- a corrupt politician apologizing in public for charges he claims he isn't really guilty of. His wife is standing solidly behind him, often looking numb or ambivalent. Throw in a little sex scandal, too, and you have a storyline that in today's time? It's so relatable. We've seen real-life stories like this unfold in the news too many times.

Fast forward six months later, and you have the wife, Alicia Florrick (Julianna Margulies) picking up the pieces to a life shattered by her husband (Mr. Big, Chris Noth). She goes back to work as a Junior Associate in a law firm, having left this kind of life 15 years ago to raise her family. She now has prove to her colleagues she can do the job, while dealing with her husband (now in jail) and protecting her kids from the public. On top of that, she has to overcome her own trauma too.

Margulies is very effective. Not once did her vulnerable character come off as the victim, which I think is why this show works so well --- it is ambitious and confident, with the right pacing, albeit some predictability (it's a legal show, one cannot expect new and fresh dynamics from a tried and tested format). As husband and wife, Margulies and Noth are very believable.

I did very little reading before watching the show (the joy of being spoiler free!!!) so Josh Charles, who plays her former law classmate and now her boss, is a welcome surprise. Ditto Christine Baranski, her mentor. They are two more reasons for me to keep watching.

The Good Wife is from the Scott Brothers (Tony & Ridley) who also gave us Numb3rs and the movies Gladiator, Top Gun, Alien and Blade Runner.

Peter: Alicia, I know this has been hard on you but you have to believe I'm innocent...of the abuse of office charges.
Alicia: You think I give a damn about that, Peter? They are playing the tape in Grace's computer lab of you sucking the toe of the hooker. You think I care about the small print in your employment contract?

What happened to Jenna Elfman? When did she lose her luster? She plays a 37 year old film critic in this new series, but darn it, she looks older. Once, in the 90's, she was cute as a button as Dharma on Dharma and Greg. Nearly a decade later and Jenna on Accidentally on Purpose as Billie? Not so cute. Not so funny.

Still, she has it going in the wardrobe department, I have to say. I remember Jenna/Dharma used to be featured a lot in the glossy's best-dressed list. I liked this outfit from last night. And this black vest she wore over a cool red/white shirt and black leggings while taking her pregnancy test (no good photo...only have a partial!). I was already making a mental note of copying this style mwehehe.

Anyway, about the show:

It will remind you of Knocked Up, 'except less funny (which is bad) and less annoying than something with Katherine Heigl in it (which is good).

Did not easily warm up to it, though. I thought the first half of the pilot was terrible, middle was okay, and then back to terrible at the end. Found some characters not really registering well on me, like the sister, Abby (get rid of her, please!), and the sperm daddy, Zack (meh). But God bless you, Ashley Jensen (playing Jenna's character's BFF) --- you are really amazingly funny! She is going to steal some of Jenna's thunder.

Accidentally on Purpose is about a woman in her late 30's who gets pregnant by a stranger (almost). She keeps the baby and then decides to also keep her boy toy (who's living in a van). They're not together "together", choosing to remain only platonic, after finding out they are about to be parents. But life should be interesting for these two people now raising a baby together.

I know this series will be compared to Courtney Cox's Cougar Town a lot. Which one will last the season, I wonder?

Accidentally On Purpose is based on real-life film critic Mary Pols' memoir as a single mother.

Aussie Idol 7 Highlights, Week of 9.21.09

Some highlights from this week's Aussie Idol, Season 7:

If Christopher Cross, singer of songs like "Sailing" and "Arthur's Theme, sang AHA's "Take On Me", this is how I think he would sound like ---

...and someone in the audience has probably fallen asleep! No offense but this guy's voice is for easy Sunday afternoon listening only.

The kids from GLEE were the special guests (wheee!) and the contestants rendered "Don't Stop Believin", a song which was featured in the series' pilot episode. I was not happy with this group performance at all :P but yeah, kudos for the effort ---

This week's theme featured Top 10 Songs, with song choices like "Since You've Been Gone", "Drops of Jupiter" and "Kiss From A Rose". Overall, an okay week. Aussie Idol though is slowly losing its sparkle for me. Guess that happens when it's been around for awhile. To its credit, it does re-invent itself every year with its rule and format changes.
