The authorities were no more certain then about what was going on:

“Two new cases of bovine mutilation became known at this time in the Department of Nogoyá. One of the animals was found in Laurencena, and another in the Urquiza Sector.

“Pablo Seeling, a veterinarian for the Police Department’s Cattle Theft Unit, indicated his astonishment at the find. He recalled that the Laurencena case involved “a bull missing its testicles, and its tongue had been removed in a very special way. These are very special characteristics, given the fact that it is necessary to have a specific scalpel or something similar to make a cut as clean as the one that appeared on that animal. I do not wish to believe in extraterrestrials or anything, but I wonder how such a perfect incision could be made. I made an cut of my own with my scalpel right next to the existing one, and it was completely different.”

“Regardless, the expert believed that tne animal must have been dead for at least five days, yet its flesh “looked like what one sees in a butcher shop. This certainly caught our attention.”
Inexplicata Podcasts covering items from UFO / paranormal history in

In 1995, while working on the draft of what would be The Chupacabras Diaries, my first monograph on Puerto Rico’s paranormal predator, Sergio Couttolenc, a friend and correspondent in the Mexican city of Coatzacoalcos, sent me a file via e-mail that I was unable to open. Something requiring some obscure piece of software called “Acrobat” that my trusty 386sx did not appear to have, and which dial-up at 9600 baud could not download. So the file was saved to a 3.5-inch disk (remember them?) and placed into a drawer where it rests with hundreds of other 3.5-inch disks laden with UFO and paranormal information from the ‘90s.

A decade or so later, while burning all the information contained in the little black squares to their descendants – shiny new DVD discs – I found the Adobe Acrobat file that Sergio had sent me, and whose information should have formed part of my project or even Chupacabras and Other Mysteries (Greenleaf Press, 1997). Since information is never truly “old” in the field of UFO and paranormal research, INEXPLICATA is pleased to share it with you now. One note: this information predates the start of the Chupacabras wave of 1995 by two years...the pebbles that started the avalanche, perhaps?

EL CHUPACABRAS
By J. Felipe Coria
(from Mexico’s “El Financiero” newspaper, no date, 1995)

UTUADO, Province of Arecibo, Puerto Rico – June 24, 1993, 03:30 hrs. There is noise in the pens. The sheep are calling out in terror: they are being attacked. Farmer Pedro Cabiya wakes up and is startled. His loyal dog “Emilio” sniffs the air and whines. The dog never barks – rather, it appears to want to bury itself alive rather than go outside. It moves in circles in front of the door, silently, looking straight toward the source of the noise, the sound of murder. It would never dare look outside. The dog is frightened – fear in its pure, raw state. Cabiya looks through the window. The night seems almost solid and deep; a physical, intense darkness. Aside from the sheep, there is no other source of sound. Suddenly they are quiet. He feels a chill. Time goes by – one, ten, thirty minutes. The night suddenly recovers its rhythm. “Emilio” begins barking furiously and bolts out the door toward the sheep pens; Cabiya reaches for his shotgun and a .38 Smith & Wesson, holding a weapon in each hand. He is being propelled by a fear that has crystallized itself into an intense sweat that streams from his brow, and down his back and chest. His t-shirt is soaked through. “Emilio” barks hysterically, leaping about, circling the pens. Cabiya takes a look. The attack is now over: his thirty rams are dead, but not dismembered.

He looks at them closely with a flashlight. No sign of scratching or bruising is evident. Nor does he see a single drop of blood. He does, however, see two perfect incisions at the level the base of the skull, barely separated by an estimated half a centimeter. At dawn, Cabiya checks his pens again, and not a single drop of blood is to be found. The animal carcasses are free from injury, except for the incisions. He immediately visits Doctor Berg, a veterinary specialist from Utuado, who inspects one of the slain animals. “It was exsanguinated,” he says. But before rushing to say that it was a bloodsucking vampire bat, such as the Vampyrum spectrum, an enormous Central American chiropteran (which would be odd in itself: why did it migrate? would it take one or several to finish off an entire flock?), he checks the incisions millimetrically. They are perfect: twelve centimeters and a half deep by three millimeters in diameter. Straight. Symmetrical. Too large to be made by a bat – the bite doesn’t match.

The injuries have indeed been made by fangs, but very large and close. A bat would have left scratches and traces of its presence in the bite. Yet it would seem that the intruder, an animal lacking claws and barely the requisite amount of strength, had gently but firmly latched on the sheeps’ heads, inserted its fangs, drawn blood and left the exsanguinated carcasses behind.

According to Cabiya’s own testimony, there was no sign of a fight. The other sheep were apparently frozen in place by sheer terror and awaited their inevitable death. What Doctor Berg finds startling is that the animals were attacked in the base of the skull, without exception. A bat never does this with such precision.

Since Berg refrains from offering a conclusive answer regarding the assailant, Cabiya heads for Arecibo, the city, to see his friend Frank Cassidy, of mixed Irish and Puerto Rican heritage, a veterinarian graduated from Florida State University. Cassidy listens to him, but also abstains from providing an answer. He promises to look into the incident, but files it away. It isn’t until four months later, when Cabiya visits him again, this time in the company of his neighbor Fernando de la Peña, owner of a farm two kilometers distant from Cabiya’s. An identical killing terrifies both men: 35 goats, 26 sheep and 13 hens. In this case, Peña fired indiscriminately into the darkness toward his animal pens for over ten minutes, only stopping when he ran out of bullets. But nothing. There was no trace of the assailant.

Cassidy, still unable to offer an answer given the peculiar nature of the attack and the bite involved, believes the culprit to be an unknown animal. He jokes: “I’ll send out your goatsucker file to see what we can find out.” – He calls it a goatsucker – Chupacabras – because goats represent the largest share of the casualties. He compiles a package with Berg’s information, his own necropsies, the official report from the Health department and the farmer’s eyewitness account. He sends it to his alma mater in Florida via UPS. The fact of the matter is that he still doesn’t know what he’s facing.

A web search of veterinarians currently practicing in Puerto Rico does not display either a “Dr. Berg” or “Dr. Cassidy”, but these may be pseudonyms employed by the journalist from El Financiero who wrote the article. The intriguing and contradictory claim here is that Dr. Cassidy bestowed the name “chupacabras” – in jest – on the paranormal predator, when in fact it was comedian Silverio Pérez of the Rayos Gamma comedy team who did so; Pérez, in fact, had come up with other funny names to describe strange creatures, such as “el cangodrilo”, to refer to the small, hirsute entity reported in central Puerto Rico during the late ‘80s and early ‘90s.
Inexplicata Podcasts covering items from UFO / paranormal history in

Ufologist Patricio Diaz analyzed the photo, in view of comments suggesting that it was a lens flare or a defect in the film. "Over the course of last week," he noted, "readers of El Dia were able to witness the presenation of a curious photo taken in Valle de Elqui using a 35mm film camera. Since the prudent thing to do was learn more about the affair, I headed to Monte Grande, got in touch with the owner of the photo, and inspected the negative."

He was able to ascertain on site, he explains, that the photo was taken outside the house, specifically in its back yard, and therefore there was no window whatsoever that could account for a reflection on glass.

"I personally took the negative to a photo lab where I was told that the negative was in perfect shape and that what appeared in the photo was indeed there," says Diaz, remarking that the camera employed was a simple point-and-shoot device.

"After the on-site investigation and personally seeing the place, I can indicate with the information currently in my possession that the photo is hardly a reflection, since there is no glass outside the house or facing it.

As a general remark he adds that the controversial photo was taken with ISO 100 35 milimeter film.

(Translation (c) 2009, S.Corrales IHU. The animals were found dead in the rural area of Nogoyá. The absence of water in a nearby lagoon also drew their attention.

Residents of the rural area known as Crucesita Tercera, in the Department of Nogoyá, are shaken by the strange death of four cows in the interior of two fields and the unforeseen draining of a lagoon. Personnel of the Office of Cattle Theft and the Nogoyá Police ascertained that the cows had succumbed to a mysterious mutilation, but also noted that a nearby lagoon, which a day earlier had been full of water, was now empty.

Once more, fantasy, myth and mystery began to weave themselves over the deaths of these animals. Apparitions of the so-called “Chupacabras” and even a UFO sighting are now part of the comments being made in the heart of the province.

The cows found by police officers were missing their reproductive organs, tongues and eyes. For this reason, the veterinarian attached to the Office of Cattle Theft, a part of the Nogoyá Police force, stated that there is no rational explanation for the animals’ deaths and much less for their strange mutilations.

The dead bovines, according to police, were the property of Gustavo Cabañas, an employee of the Banco de Entre Rios, Nogoyá branch. The man owned the field and the herd of cows and calves within it.

A few days later, Cabañas had surveyed the farm and found that everything was in good order. Even the volume of water of nearby lagoon presented a generous quantity of the vital fluid, considering the drought. But for reasons that remain unclear, the lagoon dried up in a few hours, forcing the field’s owner to transfer the animals. He found the dead animals as he performed the transfer.

Nogoyá’s cattle rustling authorities and agents of the Sheriff’s office confirmed their investigation and the mysteries that surround it. The events cannot be explained scientifically.

Crucesita Tercera is some 50 kilometers from the departmental capital. Due to this event, the Cattle Theft officers spoke to local residents, who gave scant details on elements that could help explain the deaths of these animals.

The subject expanded yesterday when it was learned that Police found another mutilated bovine in an adjacent field. The carcass displayed the same characteristics: it was missing both eyes, its tongue and uterus. The cow belonged to a woman surnamed Sanchez and the incident was discovered only a short distance from the Sheriff’s office.

The Cattle Theft office noted that they had reported the mutilations on the three cows found over the weekend, but that the bones near the mutilated parts were clean, as if death had occurred some time ago, and not a matter of days, either. Furthermore, surgical incisions were confirmed, some of them without scarring or blood on the grass of the animals’ hides.

Three years earlier, a pair of bovines was found lifeless and mutilated only a short distance from this last discovery.

Veterinarian Esteban Puntín, who investigated the events a while ago explained, “while he is aware of these last cases from remarks, he believes that [all of this] is the result of natural action.”

Puntín noted:“due to uncontrolled deforestation, predators began looking for food in smaller and cleaner fields. With the onset of cold weather and the drought, there is very little grass. Therefore, animals are hungry. Bovines look for grass, and they may end up eating “yuyos” (brambles) which are poisonous, such as the Mio Mio. When the animal dies, foxes, weasels, vultures and even mice report to the site, eating the softer parts of the carcass, which are generally the anus or vulva, the udders and the tongue. Carrion animals also eat the eyes. The specimen involved was a Hereford, known locally as "raza pampa" (Pampa breed).

The animal presented typical incisions on one of its jaws, and was also missing one ear and inner ear, an eye, and had had all of its anal structure removed. The event took place at the Las Piletas ranch.

The owner, who works in the area, says that "lights" are frequently seen in the region and that in the month of April, during a warm evening, he was in the backyard accompanied by his son when the night "was suddenly turned to day" as a very large, bright object hovered over one of the cattle pens.

Terrified, both witnesses entered the house and monitored the strange object's maneuvers, as it hovered for some minutes and then took off at dizzying speed into space. None of the farm animals were injured on that occasion.

An aspect that intrigued them was the fact that not even dogs would approach the dead animal. Neither would the farmer's horse, which refused to approach the carcass despite its rider's insistence. The man was forced to dismount and approach the mutilated cow on foot.

This episode does not surprise them in the least, as they saw the strange incisions on dead animals during the 2002/2003 mutilation wave.

(Translation (c) S. Marcelino Requejo has spent over 30 years researching the UFO phenomenon, talking to those who claim having seen the phenomenon, and compiling information, a passion that began barely 15 years ago. In that time, he has learned some startling cases, now collected in the book OVNIS: Alto Secreto, with a foreword by journalist and writer J.J. Benitez, author of the Caballo de Troya series of books.

Among the 35 cases featured in this book, and one of the most interesting ones recalled by the Galician ufologist, was an event that took place in Vigo. The extraordinary detail of this September 1999 case was that the witness was only 8 years old. The girl and her father were treated to the sight of a strange vehicle flying over their roof: it was the color of lead and shaped like a rugby ball with numerous portholes through which a number of figures could be seen. Moreover, the girl would later see two large-headed, diminutive entities in her bedroom. She described them as having very large heads and eyes, with no ears or mouth, and they gazed at her fixedly.

What Requejo finds most amazing about this narrative was the clarity with which the girl drew the strange flying machine the next day, without omitting even the shadows that were visible behind the portholes. “Even today, ten years later, she remembers it all in great detail,” notes the ufologist, who claims that this book is a tribute to all those who have seen strange flying objects and have not been afraid to share their experience.

“It is very strange today for someone to acknowledge seeing a UFO outside their immediate context,” acknowledges the Galician researcher, who has collaborated with such shows as Milenio, La Rosa de los Vientos and Milenio 3.

According to Requejo, Galicia is a community that registers a significant number of UFO cases, while cautioning that the phenomenon is of a cyclical nature. “There are times in which they occur with greater or lesser intensity, which also happens elsewhere in the world.”

Requejo also describes the surprising experiences recounted by other Galicians who claim having been “abducted” by UFOs, whisked away from the roads upon which they drove to find themselves on other roadways – strange episodes that have been repeated elsewhere and remain a mystery.

(Translation (c) 2009, S. Mr. EJFP, 43, a security guard at a major industrial concern in Malleco (Chile) was monitoring Section 22, occupied by a water treatment plant some 20 meters distant from the main plant. The watchman was alone and pulling the 15:00 to 23:00 shift. He stood near a light post in a corner, as the guard post afforded poor visibility. It was a dark night, overcast but with no rain. Toward the northern reaches of the compound there was a wire fence, 10 meters away from the position he occupied. At 21:15 hours, his attention was drawn by something immediately beyond the barbed wire fence.

A person stood there facing him, average height , and completely dressed in white. He could not tell if the garment was a tunic, but it was clearly visible in the darkness. The watchman, as was his duty, challenged the arrival, as no one was supposed to come close to the facility. But the figure did not move, nor did it issue any sound or word whatsoever.

Precisely at that moment, a vehicle conveying the watchman's immediate supervisor approached the area. The watchman turned to look at the arriving vehicle, but when the turned to look at the figure in white, it was no longer there. No shrubs or trees could have offered concealment - the figure simply vanished. The dim light kept the watchman from making out any features on the figure. He asked his superior if he had perhaps seen something beyond the perimeter with his vehicle's headlights, but the reply was negative. Other security guards patrolling the area had already remarked that "strange things" were sometimes seen in the area.

Two months later, while pulling a duty shift from 23:00 to 07:00, Mr. EJFP was assigned to watch the La Laguna sector, a forested area some 200 meters from the main plant. He only had a medium-sized flashlight with him, and it was turned off. At around 04:00, while walking along a trail that crossed the woods, EJFP noticed the silhouette of a very tall person approaching him along the path. This figure was somewhat hunched over and walked noiselessly.

When the figure came within a distance of four meters, the watchman turned on his flashlight and pointed it at the intruder's face. He couldn't see any features beyond the fact that he had two glowing eyes "that were not those of a human being". The figure was dressed completely in black and was clearly looking at the sentry. EJFP felt fear, turned around and made a run back to the public roadway some 200 meters away, remaining there until dawn, when his shift ended.

He claimed to have seen the outline of a head and shoulders, but the overwhelming fear caused him to run for safety. EJFP added that another watchman fainted when he found himself in the presence of this tall, glowing-eyed presence. At least six similar encounters have occured in the vicinity of this plant, and it is even common to see UFOs; on one occasion, large fleet of unknown vehicles, looking like arrowheads, flew over the area no more that 100 meters over the ground.

(Translation (c) 2009, S. The article, written by Roberto Aretxaga and J.M. Satrústegui, first appeared in issue 134 of the defunct Karma-7 magazine:

"There exist cratures of considerable height, completely covered in hair, that wander the Pyrenees with incredible agillity, and even along non-Pyrenaic ares such as Zenauri, in the Basque Country, or the caves of Muskia and Mailuxe. They are collectively known as the "Basajun", the lords of the forests.

"According to journalist Roberto Artetxaga, the existence of this folkloric creature is deeply rooted in Basque tradition, and adds that its very name is suggestive, as the Euskera words "baso" (forest, wilderness) and "Jaun" (lord) render the composite of Basajaun, master of the forests or the wilderness.

"The description is that of a creature endowed with extraordinary physical force, great agility and speed of travel, consierable height, quite taller than an average man, and fully anthropopmorhic features, covered in long hair and sometimes described as having long claws.

"Many people believed that these creatures posessed the secret of cultivating wheat and that humans learned from them how to plant and harvest it. They are also considered as the first ironsmiths and millwrights, from whom humans learned the secret of the saw, the millwheel and the welding of metals. Basajaun is considered as the protective spirit of flocks, and up to only a few years ago, Basque shepherds held the belief that when animals caused their bells to ring at the same time, it meant that the Basajaun was near. Shepherds found this reassuring, safe in the knowledge that their herds would not be decimated by wolves.

"Legend and reality have become interwoven, but J.M. Satrústegui points out in his book "Mitos y Creencias" that livestock farmers in Valcarlos and Ondorrola were fully convinced of this creature's existence. He even managed to secure the testimony of an elder who told him that he would receive visits from the basajauns at his homestead, but never knew why. They had not visited him for a long time. Another eyewitness account mentions a sighting of a young Basajaun basking in the sun at the opening to the Mailuxe cave, and the added description of this creature as being blond.

(Translation (c) 2009, S. Logically, and given the fact that I was taking my very first steps in field research, my conversations had mostly to do with the subject [ufology]. Thus, my mind was stirred by anecdotes and remembrances. The cause of this was Mr. Vicente Pedone, who was my host at the time.

According to Don Vicente, in the early 1940s, he was a Sergeant of the Buenos Aires Provincial Police, and his beat covered such locations as Orense, San Cayetano, Copetonas, Oriente, Cristiano Muerto, etc. These towns were well known to him.
One night, while in the company of an officer surnamed Gitani in a field warehouse, a local boy came running over to them, breathlessly, saying that he had witnessed “a plane crash to the ground in flames”, deep in the fields. Faced with this story, Don Vicente and his subordinate reported to the alleged crash site, accompanied by the young man (whom I shall call NN, given his anonymous status). After covering a good distance in the police car, the guide pointed out the possible crash site: there, two hundred meters away from the group, near a hill, was a very strange disk-shaped luminous object that remained still in their sight. Around the object, an undetermined number of “figures” could be seen “coming and going”

At a distance, the beings seemed very tall and were clad in luminous, metallic outfits. Their movements were sluggish and they carried what appeared to be mugs (“tarros”) in their hands.

Evidently, this sight impressed the witnesses to such an extent that they made a prudent retreat. But their astonishment and nervousness increased when Don Vicente tried to get the vehicle going, he was unable to do so. He tried one, two, three and more times to no avail. Therefore, rather than running away across the field, they all agreed to remain in the vehicle to see what developed. “We were abandoned to the outcome of the events,” remarked the protagonist of this episode.

Several minutes later, they noticed that what they took for an airplane began to move backward with a slow, even motion and speed, always at ground level. This action caused Don Vicente to try to get his police car going once more, since time had become endless to them. Finally he managed to turn the engine over and make an abrupt departure. This brought an end to this reminiscence, and it’s a shame that they didn’t stay long enough to witness the final phase of the phenomenon. The next morning, Don Vicente obtained confirmation from NN, that the landing site in Oriente betrayed signs of burned grass. Unfortunately, the police did not verify this on-site. The rest is history.

Let us not forget that UFO activity was already beginning to occur elsewhere in the world, and this newspaper article from Chile, courtesy of our friend Raul Núñez at the IIEE, is a good example:

A FLYING DISK OVER SANTIAGO: SEEN FLYING OVER LOS CERRILLOS

Mr. Gillermo de la Cerda Simonot, a former civilian officer of the Fleet, states that a shining, silvery and oval-shaped object" appeared before his eyes for ten minutes at noon yesterday.
A flying disk remained stationary for at least ten minutes over the Los Cerrillos airport, at least ten kilometers from the Plaza de Armas, at the very same time that the population of Santiago left its offices and workshops to go off to lunch. The object was seen by Guillermo de la Cerda Simonot, master mechanic of a small bus line, and whose background as a former civilian officer of the Fleet for 30 years, knowledgeable about machinery and vehicles, is a serene, creditworthy individual with good eyesight.

LIGHT REFLECTED AT NOON
It was noon when Guillermo de la Cerda, son of the known racehorse owner of the same name, was returning along the Maipú road after having made repairs to a damaged bus. He was wearing sunglasses, which allowed him to face the sun. Suddenly, only a few centimeters over the horizon, he saw something that shined "like the reflection of an airplane's wings when the sun strikes them". He said nothing to his escort, an assistant mechanic of the same bus line, and he continued looking at the object, which remained stationary.

A SILVERY, SHINING DISK
Finally, convinced that it could not be an airplane, he stopped the bus and got off t for a better look. It was an oval, silvery object, similar to the ones described in newswires regarding "flying saucers". He believed that he could see portholes along its edges, but was uncertain. "I don't want to say something that I didn't say with certainty," he added. His companion saw the same thing as he.

A fiew minutes later, the oval, silvery and brilliant object vanished behind the trees and out of sight.

A "flying disk"? A hallucination? Everything suggests the former. Chile appears to hav been visited by the same extraordinary messengers from space that have already appeared in so many parts of the world.

(Translation (c) 2009, S.Corrales, IHU. The text goes on to say: Rosa Araya says that the only thing she did was take a photo of her nephews in the backyard of her house in Montegrande to finish a roll of film. Upon developing the roll, she became aware of two things. She had only focused on the boys' heads and that some strange luminous dots forming a sort of saucer appeared over the skies of Valle de Elqui. Ufologist Patricio Diaz, when consulted by the "El Dia" newspaper, dismissed the possibility that the image was a hoax.

Then, in bold red: "The controversy is afoot. Diaz, a ufologist that everyone believed to have retired, opines and jumps into the fray..."

A number of photo experts will surely opine as well and invoke a number of camera defects capable of producing such an image, but here at Inexplicata, it reminds us powerfully of the "clock" images studied by psychologist Berthold E. Schwarz in the 1970s as part of the Stella Lansing case. Could this be a Chilean equivalent?
Inexplicata Podcasts covering items from UFO / paranormal history in

Those of you who have been following Inexplicata on a regular basis will remember the visits on horseback performed by members of Argentina’s Codigo OVNI group in response to sightings of UFOs and strange creatures.

The story, appearing in the 06.14.2009 issue of the paper, states that a minuscule portion of an alloy whose creation was “impossible to human technology” was collected by members of Codigo OVNI near the Roggero Reservoir in Moreno, which has become the epicenter of UFO activity in the Province of Buenos Aires. The newspaper quotes Codigo Ovni’s Jorge Marrón as saying: “When we speak of UFOs, reference is being made to a set of experiences that some refute or project into the future. In this case, things are different. We have official certification of material that is not of this planet.”

Marrón refers to a certification issued by a branch of Argentina’s INTI describing the particle as an alloy of iron of aluminum in a percentage that reaches “unconceivable” levels by terrestrial standards. Marrón went on to say that this find, and its subsequent confirmation by the INTI, “represent, without question, a very valuable contribution” within the framework of UFO activities.

Members of Codigo Ovni combed unexplained marks found on the surface (crop circles?) and it was here that this particle was discovered through the use of magnets. Marrón believes, according to the article in Diario Popular, that of all the work performed by his group at the Los Robles Nature Preserve, this is indeed the most important, particularly with the validation by an official agency of the Argentinean government of the existence of an extraterrestrial particle.

Technicians with SEGEMAR, a dependency of the Institute of Industrial Technology (INDI), reported that the ratio of iron and aluminum was highly unusual. Marrón is again quoted as saying: “The sample reveals the presence of a high percentage of iron, combined with aluminum, in a ratio that cannot be achieved with conventional technology currently known on our planet. It is impossible for materials of this sort to be found in the Province of Buenos Aires. For the time being, we can say it is nothing made by human beings, and we would have to wonder about the relationship that exists between the marks and the particles.”
Inexplicata Podcasts covering items from UFO / paranormal history in

Inquiries have already been made and more information shall be provided as soon as it is received.

According to Quique Mario, the incident is one of several that have "continued to occur" in UFO and cattle mutilation-prone La Pampa. The experiencers have requested anonymity although several external sources have confirmed these events. A woman from an undisclosed location in this Argentinean province claims having witnessed the maneuvers of one or several UFOs in the vicinity over the past four years. Moreover, "she managed to discover that the occupants were tall (some 2 meters) and in some cases no taller than 1.60," writes the journalist. Interestingly, the woman states that this height difference resulted in different behaviors on the part of the alleged ufonauts: the taller ones gave the witness "the impression that they were like robots, judging by their movments" -- echoes of the mind-bending Cisco Grove, California event of the early 1960s.

Ten days ago, states the CEUFO report, one of the two unidentified objects descended to ground level but without landing, and an effort was made to abduct the witness, who was holding on to her five year-old son at the time. "Her husband's presence kept the beings from carrying out their goal, as he reacted by hanging on to her legs and pulling her downward, even as she was being transported towrd the strange object against her will." CEUFO adds that the incident caused a commotion in the area and that a radio journalist visited the scene of the events.

"This event can be added to a series of occurences that have been taking place in a vast region of the province, without any official explanation having been given to these phenomena," reads the text. "Restlessness prevails in some areas and fear has caused some rural workers to stop working at night."

We are waiting for an update on this report from INEXPLICATA contributing editor Guillermo Gimenez.

If events are indeed as described in the report, we are looking at what could be a "classic" 60s and '70s abduction scenario, lacking any manner of paranormal overtones or bedroom visitations, orchestrated by humanoid-type occupants and their "robotic" minions.
Inexplicata Podcasts covering items from UFO / paranormal history in

Thirty years after research began, 40 cases remain unexplained. The files were declassified and EL PAIS was allowed access to them

The Uruguayan Air Force will not publish a "Blue Book" containing the results of its 30 years of research, but the high command allowed EL PAIS access to records and eyewitness accounts.

While the Air Force commission that studies these cases has been operating for only a few decades, the UFO phenomenon began in Uruguay in 1947, at the same time that worldwide enthusiasm for the subject commenced. While Uruguay is no Roswell, the emblematic location for the subject of ETs, it is a place that is catalogued as propitious for seeing unidentified flying objects, according to Col. Ariel Sanchez, an Air Force officer with 33 years of active service and who has formed part of the UFO commission since 1989. He currently presides over it.

The agency operates out of a small office located in downtown Montevideo and has a computer database and print archives as well, which have not yet been computerized. There are hundreds of files in green binders under the heading "Confidential", containing eyewitness accounts, photographs, sketches, drawings, documents and evaluations made by officials.

Unsolved cases. The files consist of reports that accrue at a rate of 100 cases per year. The commission has received approximately 2100 solid reports and has researched and dismissed many for various reasons. But there are still 40 cases lacking an explanation. These files have been kept open, and range from sightings and landings of alleged craft to so-called abductions, that is to say, report on the kidnapping of persons by extraterrestrial entities.

The international definition conceived by U.S. astrophysicist Allen Hynek divides these situations into three categories: encounters of the first kind are those involving a sighting; those of the second kind are those that record a landing, and the third kind -- the sort most exploited by filmmakers -- make reference to an encounter with an unidentified flying object and its occupants.

The military commission's task is to compile a record of cases and draft guidelines or conclusions regarding their veracity and origin. They have obtained solid results: "The commission managed to determine modifications to the chemical composition of the soil where landings are reported. The phenomenon exists. It could be a phenomenon that occurs in the lower sectors of the atmosphere, the landing of aircraft from a foreign air force, up to the extraterrestrial hypothesis. It could a monitoring probe from outer space, much in the same way that we send probes to explore distant worlds," stated the officer. "The UFO phenomenon exists in the country. I must stress that the Air Force does not dismiss an extraterrestrial hypothesis based on our scientific analysis," said Sanchez.

The commission still keeps several paper files, above all those involving open cases. The FAU (Uruguayan Air Force) has now declassified all of its information, even those labeled "confidential". Only the identity of the witnesses remains undisclosed. All manner of situations can be found while perusing the file. In a case that occurred some time ago in the Department of Durazno, the witness reported the appearance of places where an aircraft appeared to have landed. Upon analyzing the soil's composition, an increase in the values of minerals such as chrome, manganese, phosphorus and carbon was detected, enabling researchers to conclude that the event had indeed been real.

Another singular case is found in these military annals: the appearance of two reddish spheres, flying silently over the heads of two teamsters driving cattle. The objects moved at high speed in opposite directions and the vanished toward the West at high speed.

Records indicate that the months prone to most manifestations of these objects are February, March, July and October. In February of this year (2009), the commission received numerous reports accompanied by digital photographs. Photographs or film are not a determining factor in any case, but rather a contribution, explains Sanchez, given the current technical possibilities for hoaxing images.

Unsolved cases have a considerable high strangeness quotient for the FAU. For example, the 1986 pursuit by two Pucara jet fighters over the Palmar Dam in response to the maneuvers of a luminous sphere. The pilots joined together and decided to chase it. When they were about to intercept it, the sphere flew off at a dizzying rate of speed toward Argentina and could not be reached. When the pilots returned to their base, the sphere reappeared over the dam. But the same thing occurred - the chase occurred and it vanished from sight, changing colors from red to yellow.

A similar case occurred to a group of military pilots in 1996, that is to say, qualified observers engaged in exercises over the Santa Bernardina base in Durazno. As in 1986, they saw two luminous spheres, whose presence was corroborated by the airport's control tower. When the objects flew away, they maintained their shape and luminosity, which enabled the spherical shape to be confirmed. Minutes later, the pilots noticed their glow diminished, and only their outline was illuminated. "The weren't satellites, as they do not fly in formation or that low, since these objects were at 10,000 feet (3,000 meters, approximately), nor do satellites diminish their glow," says Sanchez.

Among other reports we find the one by the crew of a commercial airline - a domestic carrier - that was pursued by a powerful light in 1979 as it returned from Paraguay. The light was even photographed by passengers. This case is also unexplained.

The Air Force also has visual reports of a dozen mutilated animals whose carcasses betrayed incisions made with surgical precision. These reports go back to 2002. No coherent explanation was ever found, but research by the military commission suggests the hypothesis that it was a possible biochemical attach that probably occurred in Argentina, where 700 mutilated animals were found. "It could have been the result of winds blowing from the West," said the officer. FAU does not dismiss the possibility of an extraterrestrial event. This is another unsolved case.

Military statistics show that the customary profile of people reporting sightings involve young men up to 45 years of age. They also indicate that cases occur in the early hours of the evening, and usually involve a single witness. 49% of statistics are made up of reports of luminous spheres; barely 2% include occupant sightings.

Nor has Uruguay been immune to close encounters of the third kind. The most chilling aspect of any UFO case is usually a report involving the abduction of humans for research purposes.

There have been several cases in Uruguay that remain unexplained. One of them occurred in Playa Pascual in 1980 and involved a camper, who was on the shore at night and was suddenly taken by surprise by short beings who immobilized him and conveyed him to a vehicle, where he was subjected to a medical examination. He later woke up in his tent and had a hard time moving. Another "missing time" case involved a family that was driving along the road when an aircraft flew over their vehicle and landed in front of them. They were unable to account for what had occurred to them for several minutes.

(Translation (c) 2009, S. Corrales, IHU. It is being displayed today in our province. This documentary history is a review of Argentinean sightings that involve Chupacabras, little green dwarves and spiritism. There is a revival of alien culture: “V” is returning to television, and the Star Trek remake is on top of the box office. The invaders are among us once more.

It isn’t hard to picture Alejandro Agostinelli – an interesting journalist, a tracker of mysteries – scouring through the X-Files of this part of the world.

His book is somewhere between the pleasure of the chronicle and the flashback of an archive. That’s how this project should have started. Editorial Sudamericana has recently published it under the name “Invasores”, and that’s how it ended. Over 300 pages written with the perfect excuse of narrating Argentina’s most startling extraterrestrial sightings, including the famous case involving “little green men” that caused an uproar in local ufology in ’68.

A journalist may delight in sleuthing across the paranormal landscape; for he protagonists of these events – the contactees – it is an exhumation of an extreme experience.

For that reason, both Agostinelli and the voices of the protagonists of the close encounter that shook the region in the late ‘60s will be here tonight, journalist Miguel Titiro among them.

A Contactee Event In the Heartland

A couple vanishes in Chascomús and appears instantaneously in Mexico, as though written in the script for the movie “Jumper”. Two employees of the Casino de Mendoza encounter little green men and have a telepathic experience with them; a team of Buenos Aires spiritists makes contact with an “engineer” from Ganymede, the largest moon of Jupiter. A woman named Silvia Perez founds the “Museo del Ovni” in Victoria, Entre Rios.

The stories told in “Invasores” appear to avoid falling into ufological fervor, but nonetheless insert a disquieting description: “true stories”, as stated on the cover. You mean they’re real? “Yes,” says the author, “because these are documented stories. The reader may enjoy the recollections and experiences of their protagonists while having solid historical data at hand. None of the stories is unreal. All of these have appeared in the press, in newscasts and eventually in books on the subject.”

Thus, with several first-person accounts that are sheer narrative gold, Agostinelli chose 11 invasions. What will be the outcome of reading this book, now that the subject of aliens feels slightly retro? “No idea, that’s another mystery,” says the author. It may be, perhaps, a fine opportunity for taking out the folding chair and watching the skies again.

Che Ovni

It is clear that this is a work charged with comparative paranoia, hallucination and longing.

Furthermore, these accounts include the Chupacabras, [the subterranean city of] Erks, tours of Mount Uritorco and strange abductions like that of Zulma Fayad. There is even a translation of “Martin Fierro” (Argentina’s national epic – ed.) into “Varkulets”, an unusual alien lingo. And a constant appears. Unlike other countries, which point to Mars or Venus as the alien homeland, Argentineans connect more closely with visitors from Ganymede, one of the Jovian satellites.

“UFOs, the stories woven around them, and their effect upon culture. Those are the subjects to which I devoted the greatest time and passion throughout my life, “ Agostinelli says frankly.

And how did you come to choose the cases? How did you know that these were the stories, and not others?

”These were the ones that had the greatest impact on me while I studied the subject of UFOs. Furthermore, by having worked on TV documentaries, I have a rather visual training. I know which stories are the most attractive, involving and suggestive. My criteria for selection were double. Moreover, all of the stories had to reveal unknown aspects in the lives of their protagonists. On the other hand, each story should be worthy of a motion picture. If for any reason (a lack of information, the inability to access direct witnesses, that sort of thing) they didn’t click, they went right back to the inkwell.”

It’s hard not to ask which case affected you the most.

“There are two open-ended adventures that contain the hardest mysteries to digest. One of them is the so-called Vidal Case, which began with a news item published in June 1968. It told the story of a couple driving along the road from Chascomus, Province of Buenos Aires, when they drove into a fog bank and lost consciousness. Later, the couple and their car reappeared in Mexico City. In this case I learned that the motion picture “Che Ovni” had been shot almost a year earlier. This film, directed by Anibal Uset, starts with a couple teleported by a flying saucer from Buenos Aires to Madrid, car and all. It opened two months after the Vidal Case. This couple was never found and it’s unlikely they ever existed. But as with all legends, the controversy endures. Anibal uset cannot categorically prove that he created the case to promote his movie. In any event, my book contains hints that support his claim. It is followed, no doubt by the Mendozan question involving the Casino workers.

How did you trace the route to be followed?

“Like I said, once I chose the stories, I arranged them in a more or less chronological order. At other times, I added stories according to geographic proximity. I went to Mendoza in an effort to locate Juan Carlos Peccinetti and Fernando Villegas, the Casino workers, but also other possible protagonists of what appears to have been a prank, based on a clue I was given in Mar del Plata.
Then I visited Chile, where I interviewed physicist and mathematician Pablo Kittl Duclout, the nephew of brothers Jorge and Napy Duclout, who is the only surviving relative of the first Argentinean contactees.

“In the early Fifties, Jorge and Napy were spiritists. During their séances, a spirit they identified as a “talented engineer” would talk to them about life on Ganymede, the planet Jupiter’s largest satellite. I was delighted to find out who was the engineer who contacted them, but I won’t tell you. That’s the end of the story and it would ruin it. The first trip involved climbing to the roof of the Kavanagh Building, where they were summoned to appear by the commander of a saucer that was supposed to arrive from Jupiter. I also visited Santa Rosa, because La Pampa is the homeland of the wave of cattle mutilations that unleashed in 2002, and the city of Victoria, Entre Rios, where Siliva Pérez Simondini’s Museo OVNI operates.”

The fact is that Alejandro found the Earthlings to be infinitely more complex and fascinating than the aliens.

Parenthesis one: “Aníbal Uset was the first Argentinean filmmaker who toured the world to shoot a comedy based on the extraterrestrial rumors of the Sixties, and even more with Martin Rappalini, who was a the time a young writer accused of “concealing the truth” about the legendary marital abduction. These stories merited another chapter.
El Muñeco Mateyko, Pipo Mancera, Javier Portales, Cuchuflito, Jorge Sobral, Marcela López Rey, Erika Wallner and Perla Caron starred in the movie version of the story. A relic? Yes indeed. The odyssey had a musty smell to it until I learned that Catherine Fulop had starred in a Nineties remake of the movie. In Spain, she was also convinced that she’d been transported by aliens.”

Parenthesis two: Pablo Kittl Duclout, the physicist from the Andean foothills, informed the researcher to the fascinating destiny that awaited his uncles, the protagonists of the first announced UFO sighting from the rooftop of the Kavanagh Bulding in 1954). Apparently, an advanced spirit had revealed to them the existence of a higher technology. “Those disclosures were so extraordinary that they inspired Napy to film Argentina’s first 3D motion picture, “Buenos Aires en Relieve (1954),” notes Alejandro.

Three: “I also visited the nursing home where Martha Green now lives. A lovely old lady who was whisked away from Earth in the 1950s by Enis, her interdimensional lover, while her husband, a military man in the Perón regime, was embattled by the Aramburu dictatorship.”

How distant is “Invasores” from ufology?

“I wouldn’t say “light years away” because that would be a wisecrack. But I don’t think that I could’ve written a book like this while I was an ufologist. Or when I was a militant skeptic. I believe that the right distance is having realized that the protagonists were the people I was interviewing. And I chose the first person to take over my own subjective approach.

What about Fabio Zerpa?

Zerpa is convinced that the ones that appear in his stories are aliens. I’m convinced of the existence of human beings, and some of them claim having had experiences involving extraterrestrials.

So, do you or don’t you believe in alien life?

It’s not whether I believe or don’t. It may exist. But in that case, I imagine them as being too smart. To the extent that I doubt they’d bother visiting Earth. I'm attaching the image from Sierra de la Ventana. The one that was uploaded to Planeta UFO did not define its contour properly, but an explanation for this can be found in the image's format, which was taken at 1/30 sec, rather low, and the hyperfocal is somewhere around 3.74 meters (this is the point of maximum clarity in the photo). Nevertheless, refinement begins to yield a contour that could correspond to that of a bird in flight. Please bear in mind that the aperture's low speed must be taken into consideration a long with the distance of greatest clarity (barely 3.74 meters). If it is a bird, it corresponds to the clarity with which the trees on the hill can be seen. This was what I was able to glean. See below the information on the photo, distances and speeds. This information may be incorrect if the image has been resized or modified in any way."

Aperture: 2.6
Confusion Circle: 0.003 mm
Visual Field: 39.3 gra
Focal Distance: 5.8 mm (35 mm equal to 50.4 mm)
Hyperfocal Distance: 3.74 m
Scaling Factor Equivalent to 35 mm : 8.7
Shutter Speed: 1/30
Image Thumbnail: (3897 bytes binary data)

Inexplicata thanks Guillermo Gimenez and Jorge Figueras for this information.
Inexplicata Podcasts covering items from UFO / paranormal history in

Claims that in less than a minute, a "circle of light" moved quickly across the sky. Could this be true?

Two photos in sequence, the first photo shows an iluminated circle that left a wake behind it, always having the same length but in the measure that the circle rose, the wake diminished its intensity.

The second photo shows the same object, which continues its ascent without a wake and showing a change in shape. The circle with the wake appeared from the north and was lost (now without its tail and a higher speed and with a different shape) in a southerly direction.

Note: A streetlight can be used as a point of reference in the photos, making it possible to see the distance traveled in less than one minute.

Link: http://www.cadena3.com.ar/contenido/2009/05/15/30400.asp

Special thanks to GabrielV7 and Planeta UFO. Since activity over the Cordoba area is recurrent, and Gabriela Decall has fortunately managed to capture some excellent images on video, these videocaps correspond to a very particular UFO that can be seen on the last part of the video, wher the object moves through the sky "as though it were swimming".

A total of nine (9) objects went by on April 29, 2009. They went past within the typical time frame of 15:00 to 17:00 hours. Their trajectories were varied -- north to southwest, east to west -- and one came from the east, remained stationary for 10 minutes, before returning east again.

Special thanks to SolidaEvidencia.
Inexplicata Podcasts covering items from UFO / paranormal history in
