The Deadlift has developed a bad reputation in some circles. Traditional gym mythology often badmouths the Deadlift because of it's supposed danger. All exercises can be potentially dangerous in the wrong hands. In capable hands the Deadlift can produce spectacular results and in my humble opinion only one other exercise is as effective, but that's another story. So what's the big deal about the Deadlift, Deadlift is a simple functional exercise of lifting something off the floor. That is why I personally like this exercise so much, we do it all the time, we pick things off the floor to move them from point A to B. Maybe you've had to move a heavy box or a piece of furniture. It is true that although this is a very simple exercise it does require some coaching from an experienced coach. Beginners with limited body awareness should beware.

How to perform the Deadlift

Volumes have been written describing the Deadlift and it's variations, so it's is important to get coaching first before trying to attempt this exercise. It is also important to note that people come in different shapes and sizes and technique will vary from person to person depending on lever length, skill, body awareness, desire etc.

Simply approach the middle of the bar, place feet underneath the bar at approximately hips width...feet may angle outward slightly. Cantilever forward at the waist until the shoulders are aligned over the bar, the spine should be straight with little or no tucking of the tailbone. The best case scenario is the spine maintains it's natural curves, the head is in alignment with the spine. The knees bend enough so that the hands can be placed on the bar shoulder wide, the grip can vary but one common way is one hand over and one hand under. To raise the weight off the floor inhale and then press the floor away, use the legs to extend the hips, the back and arms stabilize and straighten while the legs literally push away. On the descent begin to exhale and cantilever at the waist, bend the knees and ankles and lower the weight in a controlled manner.

Adam's Personal Training

7739-G Northcross Dr.

Austin, TX 78757

www.adamtraining.com

Adam’s Six-Week Body Conditioning System

Adam’s Six-Week Body Conditioning System is based on years of experience and refinement. I've been in the trenches so to speak for twenty years, I've trained some 25,000 personal and group training sessions. I've done fitness every way there is to be done. I've put in 12-16 hour days, everyday, week after week, moth after month and year after year. In that time I've learned some very valuable lessons and have gained some hard earned wisdom. I can tell you with 100% accuracy that you don't have to struggle to lose the weight. YOU CAN STOP NOW!

You have two choices when come to losing weight, you can do it the hard way or you can do it the easy way. Let me ask you a question, "how is the hard way working for you?" I teach people every single day simple techniques to knock off the weight. In most cases people are astonished at how easy it really is. The first reaction is almost always disbelief. YOU DON'T HAVE TO PHYSICALLY ABUSE YOURSELF TO KNOCK OFF THE WEIGHT. In our American society we believe that hard work pays off, it's true when it comes to somethings, but not weight loss.

If you follow my very simple guidelines you will drop the weight. These techniques are so simple anyone can do them. I have to admit that some of my clients overlook the simplicity of the guidelines and they fail, why... because the thought it had to be hard. My clients who follow these simple rules report spectacular results in as little as one-two weeks.

Here's what I routinely see. A middle age person comes in and needs to lose some weight. They have not exercised in 25 years, they are 50-60lbs over weight. They want to get in shape, tone up and lose some weight. They hire me because they want to lose it fast and they want to be trained hard because that's what they think will get it off the fastest. The person usually forks over the dough and we get to work. I show them the easy way and they are confused because it doesn't seem hard enough. But what they don't realize is that they are so out of shape, if I were to increase the difficulty level they would most likely get hurt or maybe just drop out. SO after some convincing they follow the rules and within a week or two they are down 5-10 lbs. Usually I make believers out of them and then again sometimes they just don't get it...

It's up to you, do you want to do it the easy way or the hard way.

Special offer: Get 5 FREE Training Sessions with purchase of 30 Sessions or more, call 512 762-9548 for details.

Special Note: This offer is only valid for new weight loss clients. The APTA says that “it (posture) promotes movement efficiency and endurance and contributes to an overall feeling of well-being.” The body needs to have the foundational components grounded and in place prior to addressing the top.

Feet are our base of support. Stand with your feet at a distance hip width apart. Notice the amount of mucle tension at the legs and back, the wt evenly distributed on the feet and ease of balance found here. Now, stand with your feet together and notice the feeling of instability and increased muscle tension in the body to maintain balance with this narrow base of support. Next, check the response in your body when you move your feet really wide apart. Notice where the wt is distributed on the feet and the stress at the knee and hip joints from the angle at which they are held. This is an important distinction to know –how to maintain balance with minimal effort.

By design the lower extremities and pelvic girdle set up the ability of the spine to be in and maintain a “neutral spine” position. There are 3 curves of a healthy spine. There is a lumbar arch at the lower back, a thoracic curve the opposite way like a “C” at the rib cage area, and an arch at the neck that repeats the curve of the lower back. Like this when these curves are present and in balance; the alignment inherently provides structural stability. That means there is integral strength from the design requiring minimal musculature effort to maintain the structure.

Posture-Posture-Posture

FREE Yoga, Austin TX

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 213px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_4CkPelKKXqk/STaCh89-3SI/AAAAAAAABKE/HUBwmsucJsw/s320/DSC_0004.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5275547533324508450" />

“UNLOCK YOUR INNER POTENTIAL THROUGH LIFE CHANGING EXERCISE!”

FREE Yoga, Tuesdays and Thursdays at 7:00am. On the contrary Yoga is for everyone and I do mean everyone.

I teach a very powerful system of Yoga called Kundalini Yoga, it is an ancient system of Yoga that was held in secrecy until it was brought to the U.S. by Yogi Bhajan of India in the 1960’s.

Kundalini Yoga works for everyday life and every person. You are not required to be in perfect physical shape or share any particular belief system. Kundalini works for you if you can breathe and move your body!

Adam's Personal Training
7739-G Northcross DR
Austin, TX 78757

512 762-9548

Strength and Conditioning

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 213px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_4CkPelKKXqk/SSwvP35d-dI/AAAAAAAABGU/7_ZeTFaY2gs/s320/DSC_0008.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5272641213493541330" />

Looking for an Austin Personal Trainer or a Personal Training Studio located in Austin, TX? Science, however, has moved on. Researchers now believe that some of the more entrenched elements of many athletes’ warm-up regimens are not only a waste of time but actually bad for you. The old presumption that holding a stretch for 20 to 30 seconds — known as static stretching — primes muscles for a workout is dead wrong. It actually weakens them. In a recent study conducted at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, athletes generated less force from their leg muscles after static stretching than they did after not stretching at all. Other studies have found that this stretching decreases muscle strength by as much as 30 percent. Also, stretching one leg’s muscles can reduce strength in the other leg as well, probably because the central nervous system rebels against the movements.

“There is a neuromuscular inhibitory response to static stretching,” says Malachy McHugh, the director of research at the Nicholas Institute of Sports Medicine and Athletic Trauma at Lenox Hill Hospital in New York City. The straining muscle becomes less responsive and stays weakened for up to 30 minutes after stretching, which is not how an athlete wants to begin a workout.

Stretching The Truth

Chunk-Down that Goal and Get Out of Overwhelm

Chunk-Down that Goal and Get Out of Overwhelm
by Jack Canfield

Sometimes our biggest life goals seem so overwhelming.

We rarely see them as a series of small, achievable tasks, but in reality, breaking down a large goal into smaller tasks—and accomplishing them one at a time—is exactly how any big goal gets achieved.
After you have decided what you really want, with specific deadlines, the next step is to determine all of the individual action steps you will need to take to accomplish your goal.

How to Chunk It Down

There are several ways to figure out the action steps you will need to take to accomplish any goal. One is to consult with people who have already done what you want to do and ask what steps they took. From their experience, they can give you all of the necessary steps as well as advice on what pitfalls to avoid.

Another way is to purchase a book or manual that outlines the process.

Yet another way is to start from the end and look backward. You simply close your eyes and imagine that it is now the future and you have already achieved your goal. Then just look back and see what you had to do to get to where you now are. What was the last thing you did? And then the thing before that, and then the thing before that, until you arrive at the first action you had to start with.

Remember that it is okay not to know how to do something.

It’s okay to ask for guidance and advice from those who do know. Sometimes you can get it free, and sometimes you have to pay for it. Get used to asking, “Can you tell me how to go about...?” and “What would I have to do to...?” and “How did you...?”

Keep researching and asking until you can create a realistic action plan that will get you from where you are to where you want to go.

What will you need to do? How much money will you need to save or raise? What new skills will you need to learn? What resources will you need to mobilize? Who will you need to enroll in your vision? Who will you need to ask for assistance? What new disciplines or habits will you need to build into your life?

Another valuable technique for creating an action plan for your goals is called mind mapping.

How to Use Mind Mapping

Mind mapping is a simple but powerful process for creating a detailed to‑do list for achieving your goal. It lets you determine what information you’ll need to gather, who you’ll need to talk to, what small steps you’ll need to take, how much money you’ll need to earn or raise, which deadlines you’ll need to meet, and so on—for each and every goal.
When I began creating my first educational audio program—a breakthrough goal that led to extraordinary gains for me and my business—I used mind mapping to help me “chunk down” that very large goal into all the individual tasks I would need to complete to produce a finished product.

To mind‑map your own goals, follow these steps as illustrated in the example:
1.) Center circle: In the center circle, jot down the name of your stated goal—in this case, Create an Audio Educational Program.
2.) Outside circles: Next, divide the goal into the major categories of tasks you’ll need to accomplish to achieve the greater goal—in this case, Title, Studio, Topics, Audience, and so on.

3.) Spokes: Then, draw spokes radiating outward from each mini-circle and label each one (such as Write Copy, Color Picture for Back Cover, and Arrange Lunch.)

On a separate line connected to the minicircle, write every single step you’ll need to take. Break down each one of the more detailed task spokes with action items to help you create your master to‑do list.

Next, Make a Daily To‑Do List

Once you’ve completed a mind map for your goal, convert all of the to‑do items into daily action items by listing each one on your daily to‑do lists and committing to a completion date for each one. Then schedule them in the appropriate order into your calendar and do whatever it takes to stay on schedule.

Do First Things First
The goal is to stay on schedule and complete the most important item first. In his excellent book, Eat That Frog! 21 Great Ways to Stop Procrastinating and Get More Done in Less Time, Brian Tracy reveals not just how to conquer procrastination but also how to prioritize and complete all of your action items.

In his unique system, Brian advises goal‑setters to identify the one to five things you must accomplish on any given day, and then pick the one you absolutely must do first. This becomes your biggest and ugliest frog.

He then suggests you accomplish that task first—in essence, eat that frog first—and, by so doing; make the rest of your day much, much easier. It’s a great strategy. But unfortunately, most of us leave the biggest and ugliest frog for last, hoping it will go away or somehow become easier. It never does. However, when you accomplish your toughest task early in the day, it sets the tone for the rest of your day.

By chunking down your goals, and then taking daily action on them, you create momentum and build your confidence, both of which move you farther and faster toward the achievement of your goals.

Now go take some action!

© 2008 Jack Canfield

* * *
Jack Canfield, America's #1 Success Coach, is founder of the billion-dollar book brand Chicken Soup for the Soul and a leading authority on Peak Performance and Life Success.
