The Red Green Show used to leave me sick with laughter. I used to watch it almost religiously. As it is, I haven't seen it for a few years.

Michael sent a clip of one of the many "pimp my ride" redneck specialties that appeared so often on the Red Green show. It got me to wanting to see the show again. This is the clip he sent:

The "all wheel drive" segment made me laugh as well, particularly with the repeated use of the word "unit" and all the duct tape.

I recently was involved in a conversation in which I was told I should find the Peter Jennings video on the connection between the farm bill and obesity rates. Now, I'm not going to sit here and completely blame the government; no one forces me to scarf down a bag of Cadbury Mini-Eggs. However, in doing the South Beach Diet since November and essentially cutting out processed food and junk carbs, I've come to realize how nearly impossible it is to eat without making a concerted effort to not stumble into Junk Food Land. Eating out is tricky. Shopping at the grocery story absolutely must remain on the outside aisles. Trying to purchase food with minimal processing and chemicals, much less completely organic, is an exercise in expense. It is made easier and cheaper to eat the wrong foods.

Anyway, I found the video. Here it is. Something to think about.

This is me (wearing my old dork glasses which I do not wear in public but evidently see fit to wear for the world on You Tube) and Naomi playing duets on Christmas Day evening while the others talked loudly in the background so they could hear above the piano. The song was "Axel F" and I cracked.

I'm not much for video games. I don't know much about the premise behind Halo. I do know that I like stories that almost become real to those devoted to them. And I do know that I really like this video for Halo 3.

I like how the camera pans and moves around a silent and still battlefield of figurines. It reminds me of the Blogathon-Bob stuff, except this layout is amazingly better. They probably had a bigger budget to work with. And of course, I very much like the Chopin music in the background; it's one of my favorite preludes.

The winters here get so long and deadly silent sometimes. My blog posts veer towards the depressive and there's a lot of them because I'm in the house most of the time and end up with severe cabin fever.

"Why in the world don't you just move away?"

Because I remember late spring through atumn. Because I know how beautiful summer is. Because I love going for walks and finding deer antlers and animal skeletons and odd leaves and strange sticks and wild flowers.

I'd sure miss it, though it's hard to remember in the middle of winter...

Sabine, Naomi and I piled into a Dodge Neon with a leaky cooler and fought over things like riding shotgun and money from the Peace Gardens down to Brownsville, Texas.

At some point, my camera died in the extreme August heat and I found myself huddled beneath a blanket in the searing sun somewhere in Nebraska yelling obscenities as I tried to get the film out, unruined, without the aid of a real dark room.

There was an explosion at a campground near where we stayed on the return trip, near Carlsbad, New Mexico.

A bad visual incident with an old man wearing a Speedo on South Padre Island.

Lots of swimming in outdoor pools at night with buzzing locusts somewhere in Kansas. An invasion of French students in the pool in San Antonio which made Bine leave because "the French don't like Germans."

The smell of smoke from acres of burning New Mexico wildfires near Santa Fe.

An ugly planning mishap in Denver that resulted in the unfortunate stay in Longmont. An awesome cabin up near Estes Park by Rocky Mountain National Park.

The alien museum in Roswell. Dairy Queen after Dairy Queen. Smashing into armadillos. The cowboy museum in Hico, Texas.

And it was pretty cheap, too.

Yep.

Despite what you may have heard, I was sober.

I said I'd put it online, and I did.

The last night in Managua was a bit hazy due not to ALCOHOL, but because Bonnie had given me a couple of Benadryl (or whatever) for my itchy legs which were covered in massive amounts of bizarre bug bites.

"It might make you a little drowsy," she'd said.

Yes, that, and completely confused. Under the influence of Benadryl I think I said something meaningless to Shannon during our prayer partner/gift exchange, and mumbled a prayer that I can only shudder at. I don't know what I said.

This is a video of me showing Chad how to operate my camera, shortly before I collapsed into a drooling sleep on my bed. He would use it the following morning to shoot a video of Alfredo singing. I would be sleeping since my flight was leaving later, so I was entrusting the camera to him.

Granted, I may have been a little excessive in my directions.

"First, release the velcro closure on the case. Then, carefully extract the camera. Gently remove the lens cap..."

I have a vague memory of it, though I do know my legs did not itch. I also recall ignoring Chad's obvious snideness AND DISRESPECT FOR THE INFIRM and continuing on with detailed advice for using the camera, such as suggesting it be directionally pointed at the subject.
