The chorus plays in my head all the time. For instance....

I will clean the bathroom, but I have to pick up the clutter first. So, I take the glass that was in the bathroom that belongs in the kitchen. When I get to the kitchen, I realize I can't put the glass in the dishwasher because it's full of clean dishes, so I empty it. Then I put the dirty dishes in the sink-- along with the glass from the bathroom-- into the empty dishwasher. I reach down to get the dishwashing soap under the cabinet and see that the trash needs to be taken out. So, after starting the dishwasher, I go and empty all the trashes in the house, which brings me to the kids' rooms which are very cluttered. So I put toys away, some of which belong in the front room, where the computer is. I quickly scan my email and see I have a few new ones in my inbox and sit down to read them. And respond. And click over to another website..... I suddenly realize that I didn't get the bathroom cleaned. Then the song begins to play, "One thing, one thing, leads to another, another!"

This also happens, this "one thing leads to another" stuff with bigger things. Like with homeschooling:

It all started when I started researching doing a few things at home with Big Sis when she was about 2. I figured that I could prepare her for preschool.

Well, then we decided to do preschool at home, so I could prepare her for kindergarten.

Well, people did kindergarten at home as well..... and first grade, and second grade, and so on.

So now we homeschool. :)

... And with health issues:

When was pregnant with the Baby, I started researching unmedicated childbirth. Which led to giving birth unmedicated for the first time. (Which wasn't all that bad. Really.) :)

This in turn led to researching other medications to which our family was exposed. Which in turn led to researching vaccines.

Well, that led to me researching Natural Family Planning. Which is where I am now.

So, here is my question: Is there anyone out there that can point me to books, websites, and other resources regarding this? I would greatly appreciate any insight any of you could give me.

And I am sorry if you now have that song rolling around in your head over and over and over. You are in good company. :)

Thoughts rattling around in my head...

It's funny. I have blogged more in the past two months (which says NOTHING because this is only my third post in that amount of time) than I did, well, in a long time before that. And these days, I am musing on a lot of things and do not have time to appropriately post about each one. So, guess what? You get the Reader's Digest version of my thoughts today. (By the way, that is my favorite magazine.( :)

* I quit Facebook about three weeks ago. It was taking entirely too much of my time because I don't exhibit enough self-control to NOT check it every. 10. minutes (I'm not kidding. I wish I were.) I miss keeping up with some dear friends, but we'll just have to go back to old-fashioned e-mail. (Since when did e-mail become old-fashioned anyway?!?)

* The baby is good, and she's nearly 8 weeks old!! She is a doll in every way and I love her to bits! She has fit into our family perfectly, and she even sleeps well, too! Not through the night-- yet-- but she can go eight hours (well, once she did!) Most she typically sleeps straight through for seven. I'll take it. I love nursing her in the middle of the night, just her and I, snuggling and cuddling. It's wonderful alone time together. I don't ever want her to grow up.

* Big Sis turned 6 (and Lil' Bro will tell you he's 3 1/2!) The big kids are getting TOO big, and I am trying really, really hard to enjoy every moment with them. Even the ones that make me want to pull my hair out.

* Speaking of which. Someone out there please assure me that you have days where the kids are less than, well, obedient. When I have those days, I do wonder if I'm the only one having days like that.

* I've finally started school. After a loooooong break. But, we are on Day 3 of school for this year, and so far, so good. Mostly. :)

* I've also started exercising again. And, after three days, you would think (YOU WOULD THINK!!) the pregnancy pounds would just melt away. Because that's what I'm doing. Sweating like crazy after exercising. Now, I know the pounds won't just drop that fast. But they should, I tell ya'! They should! (stomping my feet!)

* Vaccines. They are on my mind. Without starting a huge debate, I wonder what y'all think about them. The seasonal flu vaccine, the H1N1 vaccine, regular immunizations. What does your family do, if you are so inclined to share?

* I am so hungry for time in God's Word, and I have finally made time for that. And guess what? You get what you pray for if it is His will. Example: In my quiet time the other day I asked the Lord to take away my pride and allow me opportunities in which I decrease while He increases. This morning, I made a stink about needing to take a shower. It was all about me needing to take a shower before Daddy G. Even though he needs to go to work. (Sad, I know. Please let me know I'm not the only one making mountains out of molehills. Please.) Making breakfast for the family, I was a bit miffed that Daddy G got in the shower and I didn't. Then the Lord reminded me that I asked for opportunities to decrease and and this was one of them. I chuckled because a.) I love recognizing answered prayers and b.) I was being plain silly. God is good. :)

Alright, I am sure there was more to say, but my head feels a bit lighter so I will stop there for now. Blessings to you all!

Oh, he's funny.

Lil' Bro: Momma! It has been a long time since I last posted. Don't worry, though. I won't bore you all with what has happened since June. Most of that time I was getting big and bigger, growing our little bean inside me. Our days around here consisted of the kids watching t.v., me taking naps, and an occasional trip to the grocery store. All the while trying not to sweat. That goal was in vain.

Then came the day-- my due date. Then it went. I had been having contractions, but nothing productive. On Monday, August 24th at 3:50 a.m. I woke up "feeling different." The conversation with Daddy G went something like this:

(sitting on the edge of our bed "feeling different")
Me: Honey, I don't think you'll go into work today.
Daddy G: Cool. (He rolls over for a little more shut eye.)

(A few minutes later...)
Me: Uh, honey? What do you need to do to get ready to go? You know, just in case?
Him: (in a groggy voice) Uh, brush my teeth and get dressed.
Me: Oh. Okay.

(A few minutes later...)
Me: You know honey, maybe we should get ready. You know, just in case.
Him: OH. Okay.

(A few minutes later, both of us brushing our teeth)
Me: Mmm wtmmt brrrk!
Him: Hmmm??
Me: (after spitting) My water broke!
Him: OH. OKAY!

And so began our adventure! We had a very kind friend who met us at the hospital to pick up the big kids-- at 4:15 a.m, bless her!! After the big kids were settled with our friend, we checked into the hospital. The lady asked me how far apart my contractions were and I told her I didn't know, but that my water broke. (That was the ticket to move things a bit quicker. They go faster when you say your water broke!)

The kind volunteer who would be my wheelchair chauffeur took us into the elevator that went straight up to the maternity floor. Except it didn't. When she pushed the button and nothing happened-- except the closing of the doors-- all I could think about was how I didn't want to have a baby in a stuck elevator. All the lady could say while pushing buttons was, "Hmm. That's strange. I wonder why the elevator isn't working. Hmm. Let's try the elevator next to this one."

So we did. It didn't work either. "Hmm" was all the lady could say, and buttons was all she could push. All I could think about was getting stuck having the baby in the elevator and "Hmm. Get me upstairs!" We finally found one that DID work. Praise God! :)

They get me into triage and had me dress in typical hospital attire. The contractions were more forceful and coming closer together, but when I wasn't having one, I could still talk. I thought I was hours from having this baby.

The nurse says after checking me, "You are at 7 centimeters." I wasn't hours from having our little one, I was just over an hour away!

They get me into the labor and delivery room and after more contractions, pushing, some other stuff you don't want to know about (like my yelling), and an hour, we had our sweet baby girl! Our sweet daughter was born on Monday, August 24th at 6:36 a.m. Praise be to God!
For the past month, we have been trying to find our new normal. We are all doing well, but having to juggle doing things with a new baby that needs to eat, be changed, and held is sometimes hard for the big kids to understand, although they ADORE their little sister. There are many things that are left undone at the end of the day, and we haven't even started school yet. Extending grace to myself has been the biggest adjustment during this time: grace regarding what gets done, what my body looks like, and even my mood swings (darn hormones!) However, in those moments when I sigh and tell myself, "It's okay. You are doing great," I learn so much about God's grace, a lesson I could always stand to be taught again and again.

Odds and Ends

Oh, it has been so long since I have last been here. SO long. And, what do I have to show for it? Just more of the same: laundry, dishes, vacuuming. Repeat. Oh yeah, and a larger belly. This little girl in here is doing a number to me! As each day passes, more of her gymnastics cause me some winces and "Ooo's!" Seriously, though, that's the best thing, by far, about pregnancy. Feeling the baby move inside. Nothing like it. ;)

The worst thing about pregnancy is the anticipation of sleep deprivation. Ugh. SO not looking forward to that. At all.

I swore I would "school" during the summer as my kids don't even know that most kids don't do school in the summer, and that we took so many breaks during the year for which we need to make up. But let's see, (looking back at my plan book...) we have done "school" maybe THREE times in June. It's June 23. Better get going on it today.

However, not before we get to the library to check out more books (that's kind of like school, right?) and stop by Kohl's. I got a $10 coupon for anything $10 or more. That's like getting $10 worth of free stuff. I could use some things....

Will be back on Friday for Fitness Friday, hosted by guest host JULIEMOM! Woo-hoo! If it's missing, feel free to post your link in the comments section and when it shows up again, I'll put it in the Mr. Linky box.

Isn't that a song? That's what's coming to mind these days as the weather is getting warmer here in my neck of the woods. This is the time of year where I plan my outings during the morning or evening, increase my water intake by tenfold (without any trouble whatsoever because I am so thirsty), and put deodorant in places I never thought I would wear deodorant.

Ahem.

My health and fitness routine endures a few changes during this time as well, simply because it's warranted. (I certainly cannot go out for a walk in the midday desert sun. There is a strong chance of dying if you do that here. Seriously. People try to fry eggs on the sidewalk to prove how hot it really is.) And while these days I am exercising inside on the treadmill, I make sure to do it early in the morning, the coolest part of the day. To do it any other time of the day just heats up the house and makes it more difficult for me to cool off (unless I set the A/C at 70... and then my husband would be HOT because of the electric bill!) Nevertheless, I don't mind exercising in the summer as I am sweating most of the time anyway, I may as well put that sweat to good use. :)

Regarding my food and beverage intake, like I mentioned before, it's much easier to drink more water during the summer. As well, I crave fruits and veggies so much more than the rest of the year, and I am able to escape the lure of comfort casseroles and baked goods (most of the time.) Some of my favorites are strawberries, cantaloupe, and grapes. Popsicles are also a favorite, but I must be careful to choose wisely or else I'm just sucking on frozen sugar. For dinners, I plan things that don't take a lot of time or heat to cook or prepare which satisfies two requirements, keeping the house cool and eating lighter meals (read: less caloric intake.)

As for my progress this week, I am doing okay. Still hopping on the treadmill most days of the week, (yay!) but having a difficult time staying away from the sugar (yes, still.) I had my glucose screening test on Tuesday, and I haven't heard back yet about the results. Since this is a "no news is good news" situation, I am feeling good I "passed." Yahoo!

Also, got a picture of our little girl. Technology never ceases to amaze me! I can't wait to meet her!! Isn't she a doll? :)So, how about all y'all? How do you adapt your health and fitness routine for the changing season? And, this is usually where I point you in Brenda's direction, but since we are having the party HERE this week, post up on your blog and then come back and put your link in the Mr. Linky below. I am honored beyond belief! (Ah! What will I wear? What will I serve? (for most of us: HEAT) What will you do differently this next season as related to your health and fitness goals? You know, because the season is changing (for most of us Spring to H-O-T), the changing weather can be a factor in whether or not one will be successful in her fitness goals. Not ANY of us, mind you, but it could happen. Let's think about it now before we get tripped up and fall off the wagon!

Post up at your place and come back HERE on Friday to post on the Mr. Linky. She said something about how looking good isn't the only reason to exercise and eat right (although admittedly, that is my main reason most of the time!), but wants to know the health issues that might be motivating us to get our rears in gear, whether it be specifically affecting us right now or in our genes with the potential to affect us down the road.

As most of you know, I am pregnant, due 8/18, 26 1/2 weeks along. This is my third pregnancy, and the biggest I have been while pregnant. My first baby was a normal 7 lbs. 5.2 oz, a girl. My second one, a boy, was a whopping 9 lbs. 7.4 oz! I'm only 5'3", and I was HUGE! I began this pregnancy larger than I began the other two-- technically overweight-- so that, plus the fact that I have had a big baby in the past does put me at risk for gestational diabetes.

At about Month 3, I got a bit of a talking to from my doctor regarding the fact that I had gained more weight than I should have. That, with the fact that I knew I wasn't making the best choices in regards to the nourishment I was putting into my body, and that I wasn't exercising, and that I had the chance of getting gestational diabetes, all were kicks in my rear to motivate me to change my habits, if not for me, certainly for my baby girl.

So here I am. I walk on the treadmill most days of the week (woo-hoo, it's fixed!) and I try to watch what I eat (this has proven to be a bit more difficult, but nevertheless a goal.) Next Tuesday, I get to see if my healthier choices have paid off as I get to take the ever-popular glucose screening test. (Nothing like ingesting a whole bunch of sugar in such a sickening way. I would much rather have a piece of chocolate cake.) I'll keep y'all posted on how that goes.

As for my goals, cutting the sugar is still a goal.... but one I haven't started yet. Ugh! So tempting, and to be truthful, it's a spiritual matter of obedience, one that I need to lay at the altar... and leave there. (Can I get a witness?!) Also, I am continuing to drink more water (which isn't hard now that the temps are consistently above 100 here.) However, I don't always choose water when I am thirsty (soda, tea, and yummy coffees from Starbucks often come to mind instead) so once again, something to leave at the Lord's feet. And, finally, I will continue to walk on the treadmill, and this isn't too difficult right now. I don't walk very fast, but I do walk for 30 minutes, just long enough to listen to some great podcasts by Andy Stanley, Voddie Baucham, or from my pastors at my church. I get fed while I workout! How cool is that? :)

So, if you are looking for encouragement as you travel down the road to better health and fitness, hop on over to Brenda's place for some encouragement, compassion, and understanding from the other Fitness Friday gals! And, I responded, "Oh. I'm actually supposed to exercise when I can't use the treadmill?" Which means I wasn't exercising.

As I thought about it a bit more, I do realize I did get in some exercise this week thanks to the nesting instinct that just kicked in. For one, we have a lot of tile in our house with a dog and two children. Now, while there aren't many crumbs on the floor (thanks to the dog) there are dog-slobber spots (thanks to the crumbs he licks up) and sticky spills and spots (thanks to the children.) Needless to say, the tile floor needs to be scrubbed (frankly, more often than it is.) I have this handy contraption that helps get the job done, and it requires me to move it in the same way a vacuum does (back and forth, back and forth) but just more (because I don't use it often enough. Don't worry. If you come over for a meal, my table is immaculate, and that's where we would eat.) And I was a bit sore and a bit more tired at the end of the day because of that chore.

Also, we have a lot of carpet, and seeing as though we have a dog (who sheds) and two children (who litter, most of the time not on purpose), I get the pleasure to vacuum at least once a week. That's always a workout for me, and I am wiped out by the end. I even sweat!

However, yesterday while vacuuming, I noticed that the blinds on the window in the bathroom were really dusty. So was the window sill. So, I grabbed a chair, climbed up, and vacuumed (with the hose and an attachment) both sides of the blinds and the sill. Of course, then, I can't just have one set of blinds clean, so while vacuuming, I would do a bit of carpet, move a chair over to a window, climb up, and vacuum some blinds and sills. This back and forth, up and down really gave me a workout. Oh, and I even vacuumed some baseboards (the ones I could see.)

Never mind that all this nesting is way too early for this baby. She's not due for another 15 weeks! But, I feel better. And, why is it that dirt just looks dirtier when one is pregnant? Get me pregnant and suddenly I feel like I am surrounded by filth! I am sure it has nothing to do with my obsessive tendencies. Ahem.

So, how did my week go? Alright. Because I lacked "official exercise" I tried to be more aware of my intake of food and beverages, but I didn't always choose the best choice. For this next week, my goals are to find a way to exercise (besides cleaning), and continue to watch my food and beverage choices (staying away from sugar and, *gasp* soda. I SO know better.

How did you do? Want to know some other ways people sneak in some exercise? Jog over to Brenda's place (I wonder if "jogging" to her blog counts) and take a peek!

P.S. OH, and when I'm not pregnant, I mow the lawns for Daddy G and trust me. That is a killer workout! Another way to sneak in some movement!

Fitness Friday: Picture This

This week, Brenda is <del>being nosy</del> interested in how we FF gals go about being so stinkin' healthy. I know, I impress her with all of my healthful eating and hard core exercise, so I am happy to share my tricks with her and all you others who are interested in becoming as healthy as me.

Ahem.

Our workout room has been in many places in our house. First it was here...... but now that's our schoolroom. (I'll explain the papers on the table soon.)

Then it was in here...... but this became Daddy G's gear room for his hunting, backpacking, and baby stuff?

Oh yeah, this will be the baby's room soon. Moving along swimmingly, huh? She could come tomorrow (heaven forbid!) and we would be ready. *cough, cough*

So, our workout room is now in here, our bedroom. But, our treadmill is currently undergoing maintenance, so it's out of commission for awhile. Otherwise I would have a picture of me using it, because that's where you would be able to find me most times. Again... *cough, cough*.

So, aside from all the exercise I get, how do I manage to eat so healthfully, you ask? Well, I do this:Every week, I sit down, write out a schedule for the following week, then plan my meals based on that schedule. (See, this paper is divided into three rows. The top third is the date, the middle third is where I write actual meals planned for each day, and the bottom third is a rough schedule for the following week, written down so I know not to plan a 4 course meal when we won't be around for dinner that night. Not that I ever plan a 4 course meal.)

Then, I open up the paper and wala! There is my grocery list. It includes all items I would ever buy, listed in aisle order, ready to be highlighted if needed for the week. There is also space to write down price match prices so that I can have those prices handy when I price match at the checkout lane.

And, don't be too impressed. This system only serves to make me plan my indulgences ahead of time. And the Lord knows there are plenty!

Oh, and nevermind the pizza coupons on the table, too. We are having chicken tacos instead. :)

So, would you like more encouragement along your road to better health? Hop over to Brenda's place and check out other FF gals' photo documentaries! See you next week!

P.S. No donuts this week! But, nevermind the ice cream. And yummy drink from Sonic. Terry, this is the week I am cutting out the sugar. That's what I said (sarcastically) when I almost got thrown off the treadmill Wednesday morning on my daily walk.

The treadmill is broken. Ugh.

But, not too badly, because when I called the Treadmill Man at Nordic Track, he assured me (after some troubleshooting) that it could be one or all of three things, costing no more than $60. AWESOME! That's what I said with JOY because we don't have the funds for a new machine. And it's Too. Stinking. Hot. to walk outside.

(Okay, Brenda. I know that was a big stretch to incorporate your FF theme this week. But I did it. Moving on.)

So, I had my monthly <del>weigh in</del> doctor's appointment this week and have gained four pounds in the past month. Add that to the already gained 17 pounds, and I have thus far gained a total of 21 pounds since December. (I hope that makes all of you that are losing feel really good.) :)

I don't mind the gaining because I know it's all for my little girl. However, it was my goal to only gain 25 pounds, which means I only have four pounds to go. Which means I won't make that goal because a.) I have 17 weeks left to be pregnant, and b.) I ate more donuts today (small group day.) I have to be sure the next pounds I gain are meaningful and not donuts. (Needless to say, I will be working on the cutting out sugar goal again this week. His mercies are new every morning, praise be to God!)

So, how did my week go (besides almost getting bucked off the treadmill?) I have been drinking a ton of water (yay!), I have had a salad most days of the week (yay!), and before the treadmill incident, I walked most mornings of the week (yahoo!) I consider it a success (minus the donut part.)

Blessings to all of you, my fellow FF sisters! I'll do my best to stop by y'alls blogs, but it's a busy weekend ahead, so just know I'm thinking about you and praying the Lord blesses you with AWESOME progress! Until next time.... :)

Test time

The Pew Research Center has a fast, 12 question, online quiz to test your knowledge of current events. And, with the ease-of-use internet, one can find an array of like-minded people who share common spiritual interests and goals almost instantly.

However, God designed us to be in relationship. With Him. And with others. In person. On purpose. Not with a keystroke or a mouse click. But literally side-by-side, walking the journey of walking with the Lord, together.

This is all new to me, and admittedly a bit uncomfortable. I am a private person, and to share with another woman in person, on purpose is a big stretch, a bit uncomfortable. But, I have come to notice a stagnant relationship with my Lord, and can only imagine how much my relationship with Him would blossom if I were willing to take the step to be transparent and authentic with women farther along in their journey with the Lord.

I have a dear friend who is a role-model mentor to many women, and her heart is particularly bent toward encouraging mentor/mentee relationships. So much so that Ele Parrott has recently written the book entitled Transforming Together: Authentic Spiritual Mentoring (available for pre-sale through Amazon.com or Barnes and Noble.com, to be released in May.) As well, she has a blog by the same name to encourage conversation about strengthening mentor/mentee relationships. (You can even find her on Facebook!)

It is my heart that this book and blog will be an encouragement to each of you, those who are at home and those who are in the mission field and those who are in the workforce. Regardless of where we are, it is our Lord's desire for each of us to join together in person, on purpose and transform together through authentic mentorship.

Fitness Friday: Let's Start Over

Hi. Hold on just a sec. Let me put this donut down and wipe my hands.......

Okay! Hello! My name is Karly, and I have fallen off the wagon. Obviously.

Brenda at The Family Revised is the lovely hostess of Fitness Friday, and today she is starting up again this weekly accountability event. Praise God!

Now, it hasn't all been bad over here in the fitness department. I am trying really hard to hop on the treadmill most days of the week and eat healthfully, but slowly my efforts have diminished throughout the past month or so. And this is not good for me... or this little girl inside me!

So let's see. Brenda asked us to introduce ourselves (check. And you can read more of me in my profile and around my blog if you are new here.), why we are back on the wagon and with Fitness Friday (kind of check), and list our fitness goals in order of importance (not yet).

Why am I back? Like I said before, my efforts have diminished, and if you were around about a month and a half ago, I got a bit of a kick in the pants when I realized I needed to take care of myself for the sake of my baby girl inside me. There was/is a good chance that I could develop gestational diabetes, and if something were to happen to my baby girl as a result of my poor eating and lack of exercise, I would feel horrible. So, I decided to exercise most days of the week, cut out sugars, and eat more veggies. I have since fallen off that wagon... and that is why I'm back. For pregnancy health! (And so my weight loss endeavors afterward are not as difficult!)

And, what are my goals? I just have a few, and they are not in order of importance as they are all equally important:

1. I will walk the treadmill <del>5 times</del> 4 times a week, 30 minutes each time. I am taking a cue from Terry here. I would love to say I would do it 5 times a week, but life happens and I will just work on doing more days than not for now.

2. Another cue from Terry, and one I started before, but cut out sugar as a <del>daily</del> 3 times a day indulgence. I have really slipped here, so I will avoid processed treats/desserts and the like as a norm. Special treats will again become just that. Special, occasional treats. My goal is to indulge only once or twice a week.

3. I will eat more salads and veggies. I was so good at this before I got pregnant, and then I not only fell off the wagon with this one, I rolled down the hill! My goal is to eat one salad (filled with lots of veggies) each day.

So, there you have it. I am off to clear out the kitchen of the donuts (ugh!), and any other things that will cause me to stumble! Looking forward to sharing again this journey with you all! Head over to Brenda's place to get more motivation from many other ladies who are back in the saddle again! :)

Gathering them altogether

My thoughts, I mean.

It has been a long time since I have ventured here, and the longer I wait to post, the more stuff clutters my brain. So, today I will empty my mind so that I can move on with my Monday without all this rattling going on in my head.

Don't you feel so privileged. :)

1. The best news: Daddy G and I were baptized on March 8th, praise be to God! There is so much relief and love extended from God when we are obedient to His commands, and after journeying with God for so long, we finally took the plunge! SO many prayers were answered by being baptized together, and looking back on our marriage and lives, it is evident how much God has been faithful to answering those prayers. God is good! All the time!

2. We found out last Tuesday we are having a girl! Woo-hoo! Big Sis is thrilled and I think Lil' Bro is excited, too. :) All looked well on the ultrasound, and I am starting to feel this little girl move. The best thing ever about being pregnant!

3. We have some great little girls (one Big Sis' age and one a few years older) that live next door with whom we have established a great friendship in the past 2, no 3 years. And, in a few short months they will be moving away. I am heartbroken for Big Sis because I know she will be heartbroken. It will be a time of transition for her with her best friends moving away along with the baby's arrival, and she is already full of questions: "Why do they have to move away?" and "Will they get to see the baby?" I wish I could prevent this from happening, but instead I will seek God's wisdom on how best to help my daughter, as well as help her seek out some new strong friendships.

4. Ron has been off work for two weeks, and therefore we have been off school for the same amount of time. Today is definitely a Monday, and we are trying to get back into the swing of things. I like to have all my ducks in a row when we start back in, but life waits for nothing, so we are just jumping right into school, housework, and errands. My one prayer is to simplify so that my attention is focused on the most important: God, family, home and school.

5. Along those lines, I also want to simplify my fellowship with God. I crave sitting down with Him and ingesting His word so that I may be filled with His instruction all day long. So many times, though, I make it complicated: needing to have everything else done before I can take the time to sit down to be with Him because it seems like a luxury when in fact it is a necessity. Or, I need to have the perfect reading plan or book to follow-- and we all know that is an elusive goal. I just desire to jump right in, and that is all that is needed.

6. And, I crave transparent friendships with other believing women. It is so easy for me to be a hermit, not wanting to be real with other women because I fear what they will think. However, I have come to the realization that I won't grow in my walk if I continue to be a hermit. I need to open up. Soon.

7. Finally, (and a lot less heavy!), I need to come up with a chocolate dessert for a friend's birthday for tonight. Nothing like waiting until the last minute, huh? :)

Blessings to you all as you begin your weeks! May they be full of joy and all that God intends!

Fitness Friday: Days of Summer

***Edited to add: I have already started walking on the treadmill, not waiting until Monday. After giving it more thought about the weight I have gained thus far, I realized that I have been completely selfish and irresponsible at my baby's expense. Gestational diabetes could be a real threat if I don't reign in my poor habits now, and with that, all the complications that it could mean (large baby, possible c-section, and other things.) It's a sin issue and I am repenting. Now, I am off to walk. :)

Hello all! Yes, yes it's me, Karly. I know it's been a LONG time since I have participated in FF, but here I am. And I love Brenda's topic this week, too! She is asking us to tell the blog world about how we are preparing for the hot, summer months, and what we intend to wear during those months, including how we intend to handle, uh, swimsuits.

Well, before I get into all that, I have a confession. I have been gaining weight. Lots of it. Yeah, I know it's okay because I'm pregnant and all, but I got a bit of a 'talkin' to' by my doctor a few days ago because I gained 5 pounds in a month (instead of 4 or less) and since Lil' Bro was 9 pounds 7.4 ounces, and my family has a bit of history of diabetes, it seemed to be a slight concern for her. And, you know? I haven't been watching at all what I am eating. Oh sure, I am not imbibing or smoking or drinking caffeine or eating too much tuna (the mercury thing.) But, apparently, I need to be laying off the sugar as well. And I haven't. I went from the holiday season to Lil' Bro's birthday to Valentine's Day to Girl Scout Cookie time (and does it bother anyone that we are paying the same price for less cookies this year??? And paying $4 for a box of 20 cookies?? I would never do this at the grocery store!! But, it's for a good cause, I suppose. But still.)

ANYWAY. Brenda is asking what we are doing to prepare for the warmer season. So, starting <del>now</del> Monday, (and hold me to it, FF sisters!) I will walk on the treadmill <del>every. single. day.</del> five days each week. Ugh. I am so tempted to erase that last line.

Also, I am cutting my sugar intake tremendously. Again. Ugh.

Oh yeah, and lots of water and sleep. But, it seems I have this one down these days.

So those are my goals and my plan to be swimsuit ready by summer.

Riiiiiiight. But, if I WERE to wear a swimsuit this year, I would pick one that was cute but conservative. Like this:

Or this:Or even this with a cute tankini top:And, as for my daughter? I like the versatility of a two piece, but I don't like how much exposure little girl swimsuits give. (Seriously. Have you SEEN the swimsuits for young girls lately?!) I will be looking for a tankini suit for Big Sis, one that has two pieces but adequately covers the top, the midriff and the hiney. I have yet to find one. (Anyone have suggestions?)

So, there you have it! Hop on over to Brenda's place to see what she and others are doing to prepare for the days of summer!

P.S. Oh! I forgot to tell you what I will be wearing during the summer months! I am not a dress person, but it is my desire to become one, so I think I am going to try some cute maternity dresses and skirts this spring and summer. I am sure they will be so comfy and cool. Exactly what I need!!

There is no such thing as pregnancy brain.

I have heard of it with OTHER pregnant women. I am taking a break this week because today, tomorrow, the next day, and the next are busy, busy, busy, and I won't have much time to write until, uh, next Friday! You see, Lil' Bro is turning THREE, so we're having a par-tay tomorrow to celebrate. (Uh, when the baby comes, he won't be Lil' Bro anymore, huh? Gotta think of a new moniker.) Then, there is this little event called the SUPER BOWL on Sunday. And some team from Arizona, I think they're called the CARDINALS are going to be there and win, so that day is taken up, too, cheering them on and all. GO CARDINALS! And then the next day, Lil' Bro's REAL birthday is on Monday, so that calls for more celebration. (Seriously. Where did the last THREE years go? Wherever they went, they went too fast.)

Ladies, I will miss you and I will try to stop by and see how you did on your goals (Me? Hmmm. I had a salad and some fruit this week. And I moved a bit. From the computer to the kitchen to the laundry room and back.) Also, I want to see what tempts you. (Me? Hmmm. Chocolate. Ice cream. Chocolate ice cream. Then, some salty things like chips and dip. And chicken. Especially buffalo wings. CRAVING them right now, and for awhile, but haven't satisfied that yet. Must get wings.)

Happy Friday to y'all! Praying all is well with each of you! (Oh, and if you stop by and would like to see the progress of other Fitness Friday gals because I posted NOTHING, head over to Brenda's place and take a look!)

Fitness Friday: Goals Revisited

Brenda has an especially good topic today. She wants us to revisit our Fitness Friday goals in order to remind us exactly what we need to be doing to get where we want to be. For awhile, I was listing my goals each post, but then haven't in awhile. And, around the same time, I stopped keeping my goals. Go figure--- I don't write them down and they don't get done.

So, here are my goals, revisited:

Food
1. 8-10 cups of water a day. I know several FF ladies talked about water intake in posts past, and this seems like a ton of water, especially for a pregnant lady! But, I am determined to have nice skin and no swollen ankles during this pregnancy, so chug-a-lug for me!
2. Eat 2 servings each of fresh fruit and veggies daily (although I might start out with one serving of each seeing as though I am getting n.o.n.e. right now.) Gotta go to the grocery store today to make this happen.
3. I know this one isn't specific, but lay off the sweets. I guess I could say one sweet-treat a day, but even that I think is too much. Any ideas y'all have out there for me on this one I will gladly accept!

Exercise
1. Exercise. That's simple enough, huh? Actually, I am taking it a bit easy with the problem I had last week in my pregnancy, but after my ultrasound on Monday, once I see all is well, I will hop on the treadmill 4/5 times a week for a walk. That's not too hard, is it?
2. I don't have a #2 but I can't have a #1 without a #2 so I'm typing this instead.

Beauty
1. Get ready early in the day, before breakfast.
2. Take care of my skin daily by cleansing and moisturizing. Sounds like what I should normally do, but there are a lot of things I should normally do that I don't. And I know I'm in good company. Right?? :)
3. Wear flattering clothes, even if that means I have to iron. :) (Oh, and this isn't a sweet, cute smiley face, it's a "grin and bear it" smiley face. Cuz' that's what I have to do when I get set to iron.)

Spiritual (listed last but most important)
1. Read my bible daily.
2. Memorize scripture, one passage a month. (I am shamelessly stealing this one from Johanna, but it's because it's so good. Thanks, Johanna!)

So, there you have it! Hop on over to Brenda's place to see everyone else's goals revisited!

Night and Day

That's what my old doctor is vs. my new doctor.

I made the switch, and boy, am I glad I did! I actually had an appointment scheduled for tomorrow, but I had a bit of spotting last night, so I got in right away today. Note Night and Day Difference #1. When this happened when I was pregnant with Lil' Bro, the phone call happened like this:

Me: I have a bit of spotting. Is there anything that can be done?
Dr: Well, we can't prevent things like this, so you'll just have to wait and see what happens. Sorry.
Me: silence.

This time 'round:
Me: I had some spotting last night, and I'm not yet an established patient. Is there anyway to get me in today?
Receptionist: Of course! Can you be here in an hour?
Me: YES!

later on...
Nurse Practioner: (after some nice get-to-know-you conversation that was unrushed and even funny) So, have you had any complications?
Me: Yes, I had spotting last night....
NP: Oh! Well, we'll get you as soon as we can to have an ultrasound. And, if you don't mind, I would like to look at your cervix just to see that all is well. I just want to be reassured.

after exam...
NP: Great! Everything looks perfect! I am SO RELIEVED that your cervix is closed and I see no blood! We'll still get you that ultrasound, of course, because that's standard, and you'll have two more after that throughout your pregnancy. And, because you matter, we treat you with the utmost respect and care, just like you were one of our daughters. (She then gives me a big hug and says-- with tears in her eyes-- not to worry, she and the rest of the practice will take good care of me.)

Okay. The last line and hug didn't happen. But that's how I felt when I left. Respected, taken seriously, cared for. :)

I'm so glad I made the switch.
