Upcoming Evening Worship Services
Tonight we will gather at 6:30 p.m. in the sanctuary for our evening worship service. Jason Wiltse will be preaching the Word. On February 18, Tim Varner will preach. Starting in March, David Bayly will begin a four-part evening series on humility.

Winter Trimester Sunday School Classes: Begin Today
Two adult Sunday school classes will be offered during the Winter Trimester. “Lessons from Proverbs” will take a look at various topics from the book of Proverbs and taught in the sanctuary. “The Enemy Within” (book required) is a smaller discussion oriented Sunday school and will be taught in the 1st class on the left in the education wing.

Feb. 7: Couples Night
Couples of CTW mark your calendars for an excellent evening of fun set aside just for you on Saturday, Feb. 7 at Dave and Wendy Foulke’s home from 7 pm till 10 pm. Fred and Diane Walls will be interviewed regarding love, marriage, children, etc…. When couples call, they will be assigned a dessert or finger food to bring. Drinks are provided. The Foulkes live at 14060 Eckel Junction Rd in Perrysburg, OH. Please contact Bill or Julie Van Wormer to RSVP.

CTW Women: Registration Materials in Narthex
Registration and payment for the WOW Retreat are due TODAY. Please turn in your completed materials at the registration table in the Narthex. If you have any questions or concerns about the retreat please see Sarah French or Julie Morgan. Roommate assignments will be made available next week. We look forward to seeing you at the Heritage Inn on March 13th and 14th! Be praying that the Lord will prepare our hearts for Nancy Wilson’s teaching on The Feminine Heart.

LWY @ Nursing Homes
The LWY will be visiting local nursing homes this Wednesday. The nursing homes are Heartland of Waterville, 8885 Browning Dr in Waterville; Harborside of Sylvania at 5767 Whiteford Rd in Sylvania; and Sunset Village at 9640 Sylvania-Metamora Rd in Sylvania. Everyone should plan on arriving by 7 p.m. and being picked-up by 8:15 pm. If you are unsure which location your youth are assigned to, please contact Hunter Turner at 419-329-1100.

Homeschool Field Trip
We will tour the Rexam Can Factory on February 2nd at 10:00. This tour is FREE. As children are required to stay in certain areas for safety reasons, only obedient and trained children will be allowed to attend. Younger children (and those in the “training” process) can stay back under adult supervision at the Bayly’s home. Anyone can meet at the Bayly’s at 9:30 to carpool and drop off younger children or just meet at the factory at 10444 Waterville St, Whitehouse. For more information, contact Cheryl.

Cleaning out closets? Attics? Basements? Now what can you do with all of the extra stuff? Box it up for the LWY Spring Garage Sales! LWY Sledding Day

We will go to the sledding hill this Saturday in Whitehouse, OH at 9:30 a.m. If you are unsure how to get there, please meet at 9:00 am at the Drees home (429 Canal Ct. Waterville, OH 43566) and we will carpool from there. Please bring your sled(s) and gear and some water to drink. Questions? Please call 419-329-1100.

“The Enemy Within” Sunday School Class

Written by Kris Lundgaard, The Enemy Within: Straight Talk About the Power and Defeat of Sin is a book that draws heavily from the great Puritan writer, John Owen. As the title suggests, this book is about the battle with indwelling sin and putting it to death. This is a very readable though very powerful book, prepare to change. The class will start Feb. 1st and will be taught by Scott Killy and Jason Wiltse. The cost of the book is $7.50. Please see Scott or Jason if you are interested. This class is limited in size.

LWY Retreat 2009 final payments are due and your last chance to sign up is January 28th! If you have signed up for the retreat your final payment must be made by this date. If you have not signed up for the retreat, but would still like to go, get a registration form from Hunter Turner and turn in your $200 retreat payment. No registrations will be received after this date. If you have not turned in your permission slip yet, they also need to be turned in by the 28th. If you need to know your balance due, please contact Rhonda Heyerly.

Do you have work around the house you have been meaning to get to and just can’t find the time? Need a babysitter so you can do some shopping or have a date? Why not hire one of the hard-working, energetic youth members to work for you. There are a number of youth who are looking for jobs so they can earn money for their winter retreat. If you have jobs that you need done, please contact Hunter Turner and he will connect you with one of our hard working youth!

The Retreat Committee began distributing registration packets last week. If you didn’t get one then, be sure to grab one after Sunday School or the second service. Completed registrations and payments can be turned in at the registration table, or to Bethany White or Kirsten Heath. Registration and payment is due by Sunday, February 1st. Many women have asked if they can invite friends and family to the retrreat. Presently, due to space limitations, the retreat is only open to women who regularly attend Christ the Word. Our new year Cocoa and Conversation will take place on Thursday, January 22 at 8 p.m. at the home of Sue Oberly. We all need the fellowship of other women in the dark of winter, so put your children snuggly in their beds and come join with other women for some warm hot chocolate and pleasant evening fellowship.

South Toledo Pathway Change

The South Toledo Pathway is moving from Thursdays to Sundays! It will meet on the second and fourth Sundays of each month right after church beginning today. Each meeting will begin with a meal (at 1:30 p.m.) and fellowship. This time works better for current members of the Pathway but we are also hoping it will allow many others to join. This will be a great way to transition from morning worship into your Lord’s Day rest.

Our Interim Sunday school classes will begin next Sunday. The classes being offered are “Authority,” taught by Matt French and a new membership class, taught by Andrew Dionne. The Interim classes run for three weeks. If you are interested in signing-up for the new membership class please fill out the connections card and mark it accordingly or contact Andrew Dionne.

Make sure you come prepared with pen and pennies in hand ready to fill out your registration form as soon as you receive it. You do not want this to get lost in your pile of Sunday papers! The retreat dates are March 13-14, 2009, and it will be held at the lovely and relaxing Sauder Village Complex in Archbold, Ohio. The Deacons would like to make you aware of a change in our nursery policy. The change to two services has not only created space in the sanctuary, but in the nursery as well. Because of this, we are now allowing 3 year old children in the nursery. The change is effective immediately. We hope this is a help to you.

CTW is invited to attend a Christmas Eve service at Peace Reformed Church in Napoleon, OH (638 Huddle Rd) where Steve Altman is currently serving. The service will begin at 7 p.m. The evening will be a festive blend of music and Scripture readings.

December Evening Services

During the month of December we will be having three evening service. Dec. 7 will be our normal evening service; Dec. 14 will be our annual Messiah Sing-Along at 7:00 p.m.; Dec. 21 will be a Christmas Celebration with the Everlasting Word Band and the Living Word Youth Band presenting Christmas music.

Nursery Announcement
The Deacons would like to make you aware of a change in our nursery policy. The change to two services has not only created space in the sanctuary, but in the nursery as well. Because of this, we are now allowing 3 year old children in the nursery. The change is effective immediately. We hope this is a help to you.

December Evening Services
During the month of December we will be having three evening service. Dec. 7 will be our normal evening service; Dec. 14 will be our annual Messiah Sing-Along at 7:00 p.m.; Dec. 21 will be a Christmas Celebration with the Everlasting Word Band and the Living Word Youth Band presenting Christmas music.

Christmas Eve Service Invitation
CTW is invited to attend a Christmas Eve service at Peace Reformed Church in Napoleon, OH (638 Huddle Rd) where Steve Altman is currently serving. The service will begin at 7 p.m. The evening will be a festive blend of music and Scripture readings.

LWY Christmas Party
Don’t miss the Living Word Youth’s annual Christmas celebration, from 5:30-9:15 p.m., Dec. 17, at the Miklovic home. Plan now to join in the festive fun and fellowship. Homeschool Christmas Party
Homeschool Christmas Party at Jugs Bowling Center (5111 Jackman Rd, Toledo) at 1:00 on Monday, December 15. Cost is $1.50 per game with free shoe rental plus $1 per family for the room rental. WOW Christmas Fellowship: “Unwrapping God’s Blessings”

Our Christmas fellowship time for all the women at CTW will take place on Tuesday

December 2 at 7:00 p.m. We will be meeting at the Ward Pavilion. Our speaker, Renee Drees, will be encouraging us as we look at God’s gifts and blessings. For the food at this event we are asking everyone whose last name begins with the letters A-F to bring a finger type dessert and those with a last name that begins with the letters G-Z to bring an appetizer that can be picked up and put on a plate. No utensils will be provided!

Messiah Chorus Run Throughs: TODAY
Each Sunday shortly after the second service beginning today we will be gathering around the piano to read through the choral movements of Handel’s Messiah in preparation for the Sing-Along on December 14. If you are interested in singing, please join us.

Evening Service Tonight
Tonight we will hold an evening worship service in the fellowship hall. All are encouraged to attend. Pastor David will be preaching the Word.

November 23: Thank Offering Sunday
The deacons will be collecting our annual Thank Offering on November 23rd. As in the past, we are encouraging the children of Christ the Word to come up to the front of the sanctuary to express their thankfulness to God by bringing an offering. Also, this collection will be the last benevolence collection taken in 2008. We have combined the November and December benevolence in order to help those who will be in need during the holiday season. We are praying that God will bless this offering to teach our children about the importance of giving, and enable our church to do good works of charity. The deacons thank you for your cheerful giving in the past and for your generosity in this next collection.

2009 LWY Winter Retreat
The 2009 LWY Annual Winter Retreat is quickly approaching. If you have not signed-up yet, I strongly encourage you to do so as soon as possible. Please see Rhonda Heyerly or Hunter Turner if you need a WR sign-up form. The total cost will be $200 per person if you did not sign-up early for the $25 discount. The 2nd payment of $70 is due THIS WEDNESDAY (Nov. 19). Please be sure and seek ways in which you can earn/raise money for this trip whether it is through raking leaves, snow shoveling, the Kroger Gift Card Program, or even cleaning the home.
